We had an impromptu Billy Idol night here on Monday. We can blame it on the fact that “Hot In The City” was played on one of the digital radio stations that I was listening to during the day. Later on, I found the video whilst we were drinking red wine and then proceeded on to a few more Billy Idol videos on YouTube.

I don’t think I ever gave enough credit to “Hot In The City” over the years. It’s a really good song. I love how it just grooves during the chorus - and the bass sounds awesome.

We also listened to a great Billy Idol and Steve Stevens acoustic version of “Rebel Yell”. Steve Stevens is a wicked rhythm and lead guitar player. And Billy has still GOT it.

In the last couple of years, I’ve been introduced to Billy’s punk band from 1976, Generation X via DVD. It’s so cool seeing Billy Idol as a kid, starting out with such raw, live punk performances. There’s one song on the DVD with Sid Vicious standing in the background, hanging out at the Generation X gig, which is interesting to see.

After searching around, I found out that Billy Idol has a new album coming out - ‘The Very Best of Billy Idol: Idolize Yourself’, set for release on June 24, 2008. Maybe that’s why “Hot In The City” was on the radio.
