Finley Quaye – The Best Of The Epic Years + tracklisting

Finley Quaye

‘Finley Quaye – The Best Of The Epic Years’ is a superb compilation that brings together 16 tracks, spanning the period 1997 to 2004, from Finley Quaye’s highly successful recording career with Epic.

The set comprises tracks from his albums, ‘Maverick A Strike’ (1997), ‘Vanguard’ (2000) and ‘Much More Than Love’ (2004) and includes the singles “Sunday Shining” and “Even After All”, both of which reached the UK Top 20 in late 1997. The album is set for UK release July 7, 2008.

Born in Edinburgh in 1974, Finley Quaye had a Bohemian and itinerant childhood, which has continued to inform his lifestyle and restless musical style to the present day. His father was the African jazz musician Cab Kaye and his mother a well-known face on the London jazz scene until she died of an overdose in 1984. Finley’s father wasn’t a presence in his childhood and it wasn’t until he was on tour with his band in Amsterdam that he met his father for the first time.

Following his mother’s death, Finley went to live with his grandparents in Edinburgh but from the age of 13 he flitted between there and Manchester before settling down to live on his own in the latter city at the age of 17. It was in Manchester where Finley started to craft his early songs and in 1997 he played his debut gig at London’s Ronnie Scotts Club in 1997.

Following an early solo record deal with Polydor, Finley Quaye began working with Epic and in 1997 his singles “Sunday Shining” and “Even After All” both reached the UK Top 20. His debut album ‘Maverick A Strike’ established Finley’s reputation as one of the key pop stars of the time – released in September 1997 it went gold less than three weeks later, won him a BRIT Award and is now a multi-platinum seller. His two further albums with Epic, ‘Vanguard’ and ‘Much More Than Love’, although less mainstream, are both even more musically satisfying and challenging as his debut.
