The Smiths Indeed tribute band @ Salford Lads Club + 2010 tour dates

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of The Smiths seminal album, Meat Is Murder and to launch their own, Meat Is Murder 25th Anniversary UK tour, The Smiths Indeed tribute band will be performing at Salford Lads Club, St Ignatius Walk, Salford, M5 3RX on Thursday February 11th 2010 between 12 - 3pm.

The Smiths Indeed

"A brilliant tribute to The Smiths" - i-D Magazine

"The most popular Smiths tribute band" - Daily Telegraph

"The Smiths Indeed come closest to recreating the band musically and vocally" - LA Rock Music Examiner

"An evening of pure nostalgia and skilful reminiscence" - The Sprout

In 2007, the Manchester Evening News reported that the Salford Lads Club building, which was used for the sleeve of The Smiths album, The Queen Is Dead, had come third in a nationwide hunt to find the most iconic buildings in the country. The club is on the corner of St Ignatius Way and Coronation Street in Salford and is a place of pilgrimage for many Smiths fans.

The club has continued to provide this facility for more than 100 years and is now considered to be the 'finest example of a pre First World War club surviving and operating today.' The club is now open to boys and girls.

In 2007 an appeal to raise £1m to restore the building to its former glory was launched. The club has received publicity and funds after being featured in the Channel 4 series The Secret Millionaire. Property Developer Chek Whyte initially donated £15,000 towards repairs as part of the programme, then subsequently paid for roof repairs and has become involved with the club long-term.

Former Smiths' frontman Morrissey has also donated funds towards restoration. He initially wanted to keep his donation of £20,000 a secret but was dissuaded from doing so, because the publicity would help the campaign.

The Smiths Indeed - Meat is Murder 25th Anniversary Tour, will recapture the magic of The Smiths by playing the whole album, followed by a greatest hits set.

Since forming in Liverpool in 2005 The Smiths Indeed have built up a formidable reputation as the leading tribute act to The Smiths. Their trump card is a singer with uncannily similar vocal chords to Morrissey's.

"We aim to recapture the atmosphere and excitement of a mid-Eighties Smiths concert, with flowers, spectacles, open shirts, triumphant sing-alongs and glowing faces," says singer and Morrissey impersonator Jurgen Wendelen. Originally from Antwerp, he joined the band when he moved to Liverpool in 2005.

The Smiths Indeed offer a fantastic night of nostalgia for those who remember those distant days in the mid-1980s when The Smiths lit up the world of popular music. For those who weren't even born then or were otherwise engaged, they offer a great opportunity to witness what it might have been like to see The Smiths live. After all, a Smiths Indeed show is meant to be a celebration of The Smiths. Apportez vos fleurs.

The Smiths Indeed were also behind the recent Facebook campaign to give The Smiths their first ever British number one on the 25th anniversary of one of their most successful records. The band are hoping "How Soon Is Now" will be back in the charts to celebrate the February 1985 release of Meat Is Murder.
