Filter called the track "a propulsive theatrical ballad," going on to hail Night Work as "a dance album filled to the brim that could make even a corpse twitch."
In a two-page lead review, Q awarded the album four stars, remarking: "There is nothing cosy or vapid about the Scissor Sisters' good times: their pleasure is a serious business...they translate anxiety into dancefloor electricity."
Spin placed Night Work on its list of "25 Summer Albums That Matter Most."
Album closer "Invisible Light" was awarded three-and-a-half stars by Rolling Stone, which praised Jake Shears' "deep-throated New Wave-y vocal about 'the doors of Babylon' and an 'opiate utopia.' Welcome back to the future, Sisters!" while ew.com found Shears "in fine vocal form" and Sir Ian McKellen's spoken-word interlude "awesome."
Night Work will be released in the U.S. on June 29th by Downtown Records, which is distributed by Fontana, Universal Music Group's independent distribution division. Fans can pre-order the album now on the iTunes Store and at Amazon.com.
An exclusive new Scissor Sisters song, "Isn't It Strange," is featured in the film Shrek Forever After and included on the film's soundtrack.
The band will play second to headline at the Glastonbury Festival on June 26th and will headline the iTunes Festival at The Roundhouse in London on July 1st. They'll play a series of festivals in Europe, Australia and Japan thereafter and will announce U.S. tour dates shortly.
