The phrase 'cult hero' is bandied about with a reckless frivolity in the modern era, but when the phrase is applied to Akira the Don it seems entirely apt.

Having produced 25 mixtapes over the last five years distributed from his spiritual home and digital hub AkiratheDon.com, the eccentric musical alchemist is releasing 'Living In The Future' on April 18th, a collection of the very best from his vast vault of songs.

The new single "Jamie" was produced by legendary Blur and Pet Shop Boys producer Stephen Hague, from the mixtape compilation 'Living in the Future'.

Those tracks which made the cut for this compilation include guest appearances with long time collaborators Big Narstie and Littles as well as pop-rave bliss merchants Air France - 'diverse' barely covers it.

To distil down such a vast back catalogue to a mere sixteen tracks was a laborious task - first asking the fans to draw up a shortlist(!) of 100 tracks before whittling it down to a final 50 and eventually to a melodically and thematically succinct sixteen which passed legal red-tape on Akira's notoriously eclectic sampling.

What remains is a collection of songs which document everything from Akira's early life as a teenage miscreant in Welsh bed-sits to his obsession with cult NME writer Steven Wells to his brush with the destructive US music industry behemoth.

This compilation serves as a delicious hors d'œuvre to Akira's brand new full length 'The Life Equation' which will drop on May 2, 2011.
