The Mindeater EP is a collaborative project birthed by Bonnie "Prince" Billy (aka Will Oldham) and Dominic Cipolla, multi-instrumentalist and main brain behind the elusive Phantom Family Halo.
Previously released as a limited-edition vinyl EP through the Sophomore Lounge label, The Mindeater EP will be available both on CD format and digitally for the first time on September 27, 2011 through the band's new label, Knitting Factory Records, who'll be releasing a Phantom Family Halo full-length in early 2012.
While Cippola now lives in Brooklyn, NY; both artists were living in Louisville, KY when the EP was recorded. Cippola is one of the founders of that city's music scene. He's a long-time member of Siltbreeze crack-folk improv ensemble Sapat as well as the founder of The Phantom Family Halo.
Will and Cippola were introduced by former Slint bassist Todd Brascher and they hit it off when Bonnie "Prince" Billy joined Phantom Family Halo onstage at a anniversary party they'd been asked to play with Roky Erikson in summer 2010.
The original tracks: "The Mindeater," "Roki For Now" and "Suddenly the Darkness," all written by Cippola, were stripped to the bone and recorded to tape on the second floor of a funeral home in Louisville.
