The idea of fate is generally a concept reserved for literature and movies, but sometimes a situation arises for which there is simply no better explanation.
Such is the case with the pairing of Gus + Scout (Gus Wenner is the son of Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner and Scout Willis is the daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore) - a spirited musical partnership that was all but inevitable.
Gus + Scout's self-titled debut EP, recorded at The Clubhouse in Rhinebeck, NY with producer Charlie Klarsfeld, will be released on August 28th, 2012. The duo is streaming the track "Big Love from Big Sur" from the EP via PaperMag. More tracks can be heard from their official website (link below).
In celebration of the EP, Gus + Scout will host a pre-release party on August 20, 2012 at NYC's Mercury Lounge. It will be an intimate night as the duo as performs the tracks off their EP, unreleased material and a few surprises.
Gus and Scout's live performances see Scout captivating the audience with her gritty voice and Gus enlivening each song with his rollicking guitar solos. Their chemistry is electric.
After growing up on the same street in Hailey, Idaho the two lost touch only to be reunited at Brown University. Once together again, Gus and Scout, both 21, unearthed their lost connection through music and songwriting.
Their first offering, Gus + Scout EP, is a five song collection of emotional, country-inflected folk rock tunes that highlight Gus' sense of melodic skill as a vocalist and guitarist and Scout's arrestingly sublime voice.
Most of all, the release showcases the honest and natural ease of the duo's songwriting. On tracks like "Don't Bother You Much" and "Gone, Gone, Gone," you can hear the forlorn country influences of their heroes and heroines including Jim Reeves, Gram Parsons, Barbara Dane and Karen Dalton.
Gus + Scout EP tracklisting:
1. Don't Bother You Much
2. I'd Do Anything For You
3. Big Love from Big Sur
4. Guilty Man
