Released 29th October 2012
Candice Gordon is set to release her second single "Cannibal Love" through Fauna records.
Fresh off the stage after a brilliant performance at Bestival, she strikes again with the release of her Halloween trash anthem Cannibal Love.
With a snarl and growl, Cannibal Love is the second single to follow Smoking Like A Barrel of A Gun, her first official release which saw her garner great blog attention this summer.
Candice Gordon - Cannibal Love video:
Candice Gordon and her band make wild, guttural, enigmatic spells. Cannibal Love opens with a cinematic drum roll, and the opening line "you look so good I wanna eat you up" which lays the song on a plate. Then an electric cacophony of guitars, drums, yelps and shouts that reek of the same inspirations as The New York Dolls, The Cramps, and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. This rock n roll wouldn't have be out of place on the record player in CBGBs back in its hay day. The song is cartoon like and light-hearted, with screams and snorts, baritone backing vocals, and exotic percussion, a homage to her hero Screaming Jay Hawkins. The B-Side to the single, titled I See a Demon is an acoustic, spooky, trance-like piece which Candice explains it to be "about a demon that follows me".
Gordon from a young age, took an active interest in music; a static factor in an otherwise constantly shifting life that has seen the Botswana native relocate to Ireland and France, busk through America and Asia, and travel with circuses all over Croatia and Turkey. She then returned to Ireland long enough to record with Shane MacGowan of the Pogues. Gordon is now based in Berlin.
