Keyboard City out February 2, 2010 via Quannum/Various Music

Carlos Santana’s son readies solo debut album

Music is a burst of choices. Not only what note to play when and with what instrument, but whether to play a note at all.

Salvador Santana, the 26-year-old keyboardist, vocalist, composer, and songwriter with strong Bay Area roots, knows what it means to navigate the infinite options of music. His 2008 project with the Salvador Santana Band – simply called SSB – pursued the scope of his ability. But for Santana, it wasn’t enough. He has no choice but to push himself further.

Watch video – Salvador Santana in the studio with GZA:

Collaboration has always been the centerpiece of his creations, and this passion manifested his solo debut ‘Keyboard City’ around the inspirations of a few legends: Bay Area MC/producer Del the Funky Homosapien who helped hone in Santana’s writing skills, Beastie Boy studio wizard Money Mark, and GZA of the Wu-Tang Clan.

The legendary founder of the Wu-Tang Clan rallied support around the album by featuring himself on remix of the title track “Keyboard City” earlier this fall.

The long anticipated debut hits the streets in February of 2010 followed by extensive touring with his keyboard-laden band featuring a three-person keyboard assault with Santana at the head.

Money Mark inspired Santana in a beautiful way during the creation process. “With all the people I’ve ever collaborated with or just working by myself, I have never produced so many ideas into songs as I have during these Money Mark sessions. That guy is just a machine,” said Santana.

Money Mark opened up a new way of recording that was previously unknown to Santana. “He has mentored me by showing me that it’s cool to be all over the pace. It’s cool to sit there and work on a song, then out of nowhere, interrupt that flow and work on another idea. To just go with it.”, Santana elaborates.

Santana is pushed by a need to step out of his comfort zone in a quest for new ideas. Easy going and humble, Santana exudes the Bay Area vibe. He began playing the drums at age three – sitting on his father’s lap, controlling the snare and tom, as his father worked the hi-hat and kick drum – but his true love was discovered when he began taking piano lessons when he was six. Later, he studied at San Francisco’s heralded School of the Arts before attending Cal Arts in Valencia, CA.

His education, passion and lineage has turned Santana into a monster on the keys, leading him to say that he’s “a musician first, a vocalist second and a performer second-and-a-half.”

Music truly thrives in his veins. His maternal grandfather was blues pioneer Saunders King and his paternal grandfather was the internationally celebrated violinist and mariachi bandleader Jose Santana. And, of course, his father is 10X Grammy-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Carlos Santana … who’s also a frequent collaborator (Salvador co-wrote “El Farol” from 1999’s smash album Supernatural).

But with his upcoming solo project, Salvador Santana will truly become a brand of his own.

“With the Salvador Santana Band record I was very passive and insecure, only because I wasn’t listening to my gut, allowing my second opinions to get to me. Knowing what I know now, I could have played that part better. I don’t ever want to have that feeling ever again.”

In addition to his musical desires, Santana has worldly efforts on his mind. After a trip to South Africa and inspiring work with Artists for a New South Africa (ANSA), something triggered inside of Santana to make sure his music wasn’t only about personal glory.

Once the record is released and he begins touring the project, Salvador will be posting various non-profit organizations on his website that will receive a percentage of the profits. “I want to use music in a positive way, and give back to people in need. There can never be enough people who do that.” And there can never be enough musicians pushing their art to the brink.

It’s The Right Time for Canadian Guitarist Rob Tardik

‘The Right Time’ is here and now…these are the words that drive award winning smooth jazz artist Rob Tardik.

A 2010 Guitarist of the Year nominee for the Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards, his newest album, ‘The Right Time’, is a personal statement and glimpse into his life’s current musical direction, further showing the world his passion for life, music and the guitar.

If you enjoy instrumental music then expect Rob’s smooth guitar work to soothe your soul and provide the soundtrack to your lifestyle. Rob is destined to capture plenty of attention with his fantastic new musical offering, further growing his status as a rising artist in the current adult contemporary and smooth jazz music scene.

With diverse musical influences such as Larry Carlton, Al Di Meola, Paco De Lucia, George Benson, Lee Ritenour, Carlos Jobim, Sting to Eddie Van Halen, The Right Time is an amalgamation of these inspirations which have helped shape his musical voice on the guitar and are moving him forward as an artist.

The Right Time includes a lively balanced mixture of 12 tasty instrumental tracks featuring Rob and a stellar cast of musicians he has assembled for this CD. They bring back that feel and interaction of a real band working their musical magic together as one cohesive sonic unit!

The CD features nine new tracks and three off his previous CD, which have been re-massaged thoroughly to capture the excitement of Rob’s music with the melodic addition of saxophone player Carson Freeman and the lush piano work of Davor Jordanovski. Songs like, “That’s a Strut”, “Smoothy” and “You Know What I Mean” all pulsate with this new musical chemistry taking Rob’s music to another level.

New tracks like “Crusin”, “Frame of Mind”, “Bounce” and the CD’s title track, “The Right Time” further reinforce Rob’s ever tasteful melodic ear, always highlighted by his trademark liquid smooth guitar work! Finally the CD’s last track, “Waiting for Rain”, a beautiful serene song about personal growth, captures Rob’s passion for the nylon string guitar with its intimate finger style guitar playing.

An industry veteran, and highly respected guitarist, Rob has also recently co-partnered to launch MDR Music Productions, a new company that will help support his latest release by specializing in licensing new music for TV, film and radio opportunities. The company has already assembled a fantastic roster of new artists with an ever growing music production library and a dynamic new music publishing company.

With the new release of The Right Time, Canadian born Rob Tardik is poised to make a musically infectious return to concerts and radio worldwide, further establishing himself as a wonderful new growing artist in the adult contemporary music scene and continues to support his passion for the guitar and performing live music for audiences everywhere.

Rob’s latest CD is available on-line at www.robtardik.com.

Golden Shoulders is a collective of talented musicians from Nevada City, California, lead by songwriter Adam Kline.

Formed in 2001, the group operates with a constantly rotating lineup with the contributors varying from performance to performance, song to song.

On the band’s recent full length called ‘Get Reasonable’, the music embraces the crescendoing pop opuses of the 70’s, toes tapping and heads bobbing by the end of the first track.

FREE Download: “Mountain” MP3

Golden Shoulders has released three full-length albums to date, Let My Burden Be (2002), Friendship is Deep (2004), and this year’s Get Reasonable (earning a 4-star review from Mojo), as well as two EPs, Bee 17 (2005) and Kin (2006), with all songs written by Adam Kline and arranged by all musicians on the recordings.

The band has toured across the United States several times, performing completely acoustic versions of their songs, without electricity, microphones or amplifiers used. Live arrangements differ from the recorded versions based on the whims of the performers. A true musical brainchild of Kline and his talented counterparts.

MPress Records’ artist Seth Glier’s debut ‘The Trouble With People’ available in stores!

Multi-instrumentalist/pianist Seth Glier, discovered at 19 and signed to MPress Records makes his label debut with ‘The Trouble With People’, now available in stores.

‘The Trouble With People’ is both timeless and modern and has drawn comparisons to Billy Joel, Marc Cohn, Gavin DeGraw, Elton John and Paul McCartney. A sophisticated collection that shows surprising maturity and self-reflection, the album weaves understated tales of real people in quiet pain.

Produced by Seth Glier and Ryan Hommel; mixed by Kevin Killen, John Shyloski and Alan Evans.

Described as having “the vocal prowess of a performer with a lifetime of singing experience” and as a “huge musical talent” in early reviews, Glier is gaining awareness amid U.S. press for his soaring falsetto, surprising showmanship and insightful songwriting, recently praised as “direct and full of clarity.”

‘The Trouble With People,’ is a diverse album, which features 12 original songs, showcases his rich falsetto, his Cat Stevens-esque hushed storytelling, and a prodigious vocal range in between. THE ALBUM PROJECT recently buzzed “I really loved the song “Gotta Get Away” as soon as I heard it.”

20-year old phenom Seth Glier has appeared on television five times in the past four weeks, as national outlets such as The CW Network and regional programs including FOX-TV in Connecticut, FOX-TV Birmingham, CBS-TV Charlotte and more have embraced his label debut ‘The Trouble With People’ as well as his ambitious, eco-friendly ‘Green Tour’.

Buy Music:

Seth Glier on amazon.com

More about Seth Glier:

Singer-songwriter Glier was raised on the music of Joni Mitchell, Martin Sexton, and Jeff Buckley, but he considers his brother to be his greatest influence. “My brother is autistic and non-verbal. I learned to communicate with words better once I realized how to communicate to someone without them.”

Perhaps it’s that unique sensitivity that gives Glier’s songwriting such resonance. His folk/pop album weaves understated tales of real people in quiet pain. It’s a sophisticated collection that shows surprising maturity and self-reflection. Maybe the term ‘old soul’ has meaning after all…

Boston-based Glier is already a seasoned troubadour, having shared stages with John Mayer, Martin Sexton, Erin McKeown and Cheryl Wheeler.

Other notable supporters of Glier’s music include acclaimed singer-songwriters Marc Cohn, Ellis Paul and Livingston Taylor, as well as legendary producer Russ Titelman (Steve Winwood, Cyndi Lauper, Eric Clapton).

Seth Glier’s accomplishments surpass his age — he has performed hundreds of shows, including a set for more than 25,000 people on the National Mall in Washington D.C.

Livingston Taylor says “Listening to Seth’s music gives me hope for what’s to come. The next generation is alive and well.”

Glier released several DIY albums before catching the attention of MPress founder Rachael Sage last fall. Upon signing Glier, Sage brought in Grammy® Winner Kevin Killen (U2, Tori Amos, Elvis Costello), to re-mix Glier’s original tracks, which he’d famously recorded in his basement over a three-month stretch.

Highlights of the album include the soaring “Gotta Get Away”, the Beatles-influenced instrumentation on “Naia”, Glier’s commanding title track, and the insightful “Someone Else To Crown”.

MC Mr Bruce and DJ/producer Mr Chuckles, who collaborate to make Hip Hop for the 1930s, Big Band music for the 2010s. Splicing swing samples with squelchy synths over dusty drum loops, they’ve depicted a modern-day journey into a time of rogues, lust, affordable clowns and foot-tapping toe curling “get your brogues on” dance floor swing hop.

Newton Faulkner announces brand new single “Over and Out” November 29th

‘Rebuilt By Humans’ debuts at Number 3!

Following his second album ‘Rebuilt By Humans’ going straight in at number 1 on iTunes, and number 3 in the album charts, Newton Faulkner announces his brand new single “Over And Out” set to be released on November 29, 2009.

Watch Over and Out video:

Although he has only just embarked on his current sold out tour, he has also announced a new must-see 14-date UK tour, starting in Galway on 27th February 2010 and finishing at London’s Hammersmith Apollo on 17th March 2010. Tickets went on sale Friday 9th October.

‘Rebuilt By Humans’ is the follow-up to his debut album, the Number 1, million-selling ‘Hand Built By Robots’ – which spent over 10 months inside the Top 40 Album Chart, and became one of the Top 20 Biggest Selling UK digital albums of all time, producing massive hit singles like “Dream Catch Me”, which spent an outstanding 43 Weeks in the Top 100.

There’s a good reason why the Brit-nominated the acoustic-guitar virtuoso Newton Faulkner’s second album is called ‘Rebuilt By Humans’. At the start of this year, the singer-songwriter broke his wrist in France and dislocated his entire right hand. Faulkner nearly lost the movement in his hand and after a series of painful procedures by French medics and a career saving operation at home in the UK, Newton was successfully rebuilt by humans and within days was back doing what he loves most, playing his guitar as taught by the legendary Eric Roche.

Newton says, “I wanted to avoid the classic second album thing of complaining about how great things have gone and all the hard work. I had brilliant fun making this album, and hopefully it sounds that way”.

Thanks to the fans and to the doctors, Newton Faulkner is back on the live circuit and can’t be missed.

Transfer is poised to release their full-length album aptly titled, Future Selves.

Earlier this year, the band secluded themselves in their studio for a month to write the record. Tucked away in the canyons in North San Diego among the influence of coyote howls and cricket bows, they created a collection of songs with poignant and chilling lyrics and sounds broad enough in range to deem undeniable.

FREE Download: “Losing Composure” MP3

While exhibiting all the grandeur of British rock, yet rooted in the gritty allure of the American west, Transfer beseeches personal discovery. You can either experience Transfer by being fully immersed within a good pair of headphones, or, preferably, get caught up in the intensity of their unusually captivating and dynamic live performance.

With the impending release of their digital-only second full-length release, Future Selves, Transfer stands poised to win over unsuspecting listeners and to elicit praise for its remarkably savvy take on the art of rock music.

That rare act that successfully merges evocative songwriting with pristine musicianship, the ambitiously detailed aesthetics of Transfer’s studio recordings frequently draw comparison to My Morning Jacket, while the personally resonating lyrical content often invokes the specter of Jeff Buckley.

However, this is not a group content to feel either bolstered or confined by its influences, and with each new release Transfer’s sound has grown more expansive, balancing soulful instincts with wildly charismatic rock as you can hear listening to their first single “Losing Composure”.

Engineered and mixed by bassist, Shaun Cornell with help from Mark Needham (The Killers), this record proves to be Transfer’s most ambitious work that has the potential to get under peoples skins.

Released October 27th on Iris Records

Carly Simon performs “Let The Riverrun” on Good Morning America October 26th and “You Belong To Me” The Today Show on October 28th

This new album ‘Never Been Gone’ revisits songs originally written throughout Carly Simon’s extensively long and productive career.

The CD was recorded at home and consists of new largely acoustic versions of Carly’s biggest hits and two brand new tracks.

Carly’s son, Benjamin Taylor was the originator of the idea and Carly willingly (though, sometimes hesitatingly) complied and lived up to the dare. Carly, Benjamin, and the rest of the producers, known as “Paphiopedilium,” chose the songs, most of which were Carly’s best-known and commercially successful.

Buy Music:

Carly Simon on amazon.com

Carly Simon on amazon.co.uk

In the CDs generous liner notes is an explanation not only of the word, “Paphiopedilium,” but an explanation of the reworking of each of the songs. Carly hopes that even without these notes the music will speak for itself.

Says Simon, “It was a revelation to me that these lyrics and melodies were so innocent of age and experience when I composed them back when. ‘These are the Good Old Days’ were not nearly as ‘good’ or as ‘old.’ I was encouraged by performing some of these songs on a promotional tour for the album This Kind Of Love, which was released a year ago. Ben, David (Saw), Peter (Calo), Larry (Ciancia) and I, with only the instruments in our hands, revised the songs: songs such as ‘You’re So Vain’ and ‘Anticipation.’ They came out all different! It was a sport of sort, as well as a visit with a psychiatrist.”

Carly celebrated the commutation of her Godson John Forte’s prison sentence by collaborating with him on “You Belong To Me.” It has been one of the great thrills of Carly’s lifetime to be working with friends and family so close to her heart.

Though Sally Taylor, Carly’s daughter, was available only to work once during the course of the recording, the choice of song that she sings on so beautifully is a meaningful coincidence: “Boys In The Trees,” is a message that a daughter receives so hauntingly from her mother.

With so many old and new friends contributing to this album, it is perfect that Frank Filipetti be the man to mix it and Bob Ludwig the friend to master it.

We are proud to give Carly’s fans, old and new, a brand new look at ten of her best loved, well-known songs, as well as two never-heard-before surprises.

‘Never Been Gone’ includes “You’re So Vain,” “Coming Around Again,” “Anticipation,” “Let The Riverrun,” “You Belong To Me,” “That’s The Way I’ve Always Heard It Should Be,” “It Happens Every Day,” “Never Been Gone,” “Boys In The Trees” and “The Right Thing To Do,” along with new songs “No Freedom” and “Songbird.”

Thursday night on the Cowley Road, Oxford. It’s drizzly outside but warm in the O2 Academy, and as we enter we’re greeted by a steward who informs us of the forthcoming entertainment and hopes we enjoy the evening. So for some ale and to find a good spot to stand to see Little Comets.

It’s good to see a band self-roadieing – setting up – as well as hanging percussion instruments from a string strung above them, from one side of the stage to the other. After a short while they return to the stage, introducing themselves as coming from Newcastle and belt into their first song “Adultery” which is their new single and a damn good one to put out there.

The singer/guitarist Robert Coles is an interesting frontman cavorting around the stage strumming his guitar. They create a positive on-stage vibe which reverberates into the audience and I’m sure that tonight they would have scored themselves yet more fans as they continue their tour with the Noisettes.

They’re a good live band to see, in the same shop as Razorlight, The Twang and Franz Ferdinand. Lots of energy and an enthusiasm for playing live is always a good thing.

After their set and the obligatory queue at the bar for more refreshments, we mug some students off a leather sofa and rest our legs for half an hour until it’s time to get to the front, or as near as possible, to get a good look at the Noisettes. We manage to get close enough to see what is going on.

For some reason the drums are set up on the left side of the stage, which makes it difficult to see drummer Jamie Morrison and the backing vocalist is on a platform in the centre at the back… Anyway, they open up with “Wild Young Hearts” and Shingai straps on her bass and whips the audience up. This is the busiest I’ve seen the Oxford O2 for quite awhile so hats off to the Noisettes for playing their publicity cards all the right way.

They have the whole place in a party mood, you would think it was still the summer outside. They work the stage brilliantly, you wouldn’t believe that they had only been around for just six years.

I would say that the Noisettes are well worth the money for a fun night out, probably one of the best live bands on the scene for that good time vibe. I think they will be around for many years and could be one of those acts that get better with every album they produce.

You Me At Six Alternative Press Fall Ball tour dates (below)

It takes a special kind of band to be able to write instantaneously catchy, hook-driven pop-rock songs whose appeal cuts across generations, continents and gender.

In the recent past, US-based bands like Fall Out Boy and Panic at the Disco made it look easy, and now, a new generation of young bands has emerged to take up the cause.

FREE Download: Save It For The Bedroom MP3

Leading the way is the undeniably impressive You Me At Six, whose bittersweet, sugar-coated hooks and hard-rocking riffs have fans jumping, sweating and singing to every word from shore to shore.

Watch “Finders Keepers” video:

You Me At Six began as most bands do: friends coming together and playing music to pass the time.

United by their love of bands such as Fall Out Boy and Blink-182, the South East England based quintet started out practicing in their garages and playing shows for friends.

Slowly building a fan base across the UK, thanks in part to MySpace, You Me At Six began touring the country, letting their fan base grow organically.

By the summer of 2007, with over a million plays on their MySpace page, the band played a support slot to a sold out crowd at London’s Underworld club and it was clear this band was a cut above.

Kerrang! Magazine ran an ‘Introducing’ feature on the band soon after, marking the beginning of what promises to be a very long career for Josh Franceschi (singer), Max Helyer (guitar, backing vocals), Chris Miller (guitar), Matt Barnes (bass) and Dan Flint (drums).

After touring in support of bands like New Found Glory, Angels & Airwaves and Fall Out Boy among others, You Me At Six recorded and released their debut album, Take Off Your Colours, for UK based label Slam Dunk Records in late 2008, which debuted at number 25 on the UK charts.

The band’s wave of success soon reached US shores, where they caught the attention of Epitaph Record’s owner and founder Brett Gurewitz.

The band signed to the label at the beginning of 2009 and Epitaph re-released Take Off Your Colours in the US with additional songs that July.

Virtually a household name in Britain, it’s no surprise that You Me At Six already have an established army of fans in the US awaiting their arrival. The band’s revival of fun-loving, care-free spirited pop-rock is infectious and spreads with each lyric on Take Off Your Colours.

Listeners fall fast for the band’s teen-relevant lyrics of heartache, bad breakups, jealousy and the frustrations of love and the non-stop rockfest of single-worthy sing-alongs like “Gossip,” “Save It For The Bedroom,” “Take Off Your Colours” and “Finders Keepers” (available exclusively on the re-release).

Take Off Your Colours proves without a doubt the band has the ability to craft some of the catchiest pop-rock anthems that this new generation of rock bands has to offer.

The re-release of Take Off Your Colours is only the beginning for You Me At Six. Following a slew of European festival dates including Rock Am Ring and Download Festival, the band played the last three weeks of the Vans Warped Tour in August.
