Web series to feature 9 episodes from 3 different artists spotlighting a “Day In The Life” of an emerging artist

Wendy’s and MySpace Records have teamed up to launch a new Internet series called “Fresh Faces.”

Building on Wendy’s motto of ‘You Know When It’s Real,’ the ongoing Web program will include 9 episodes from three different emerging artists showing what a ‘day in the life’ of a budding new artist is like.

Each “Fresh Faces” artist will have its own 3 episodes than can be seen exclusively at www.myspace.com/wendys, in addition to a 3-song EP available for free download on the site. A new episode will debut every Wednesday throughout the series.

The latest episode, featuring LA hip hop artist IamOMNI (www.myspace.com/IamOMNI) is up now at www.myspace.com/wendys.

Stay tuned for new episodes on future “Fresh Faces” artists, including a Brooklyn based beat-pop band, all handpicked from MySpace Records’ Friends and Family, a group of developing artists MySpace Records helps market and promote.

Guetta embarked on his most extensive U.S. club tour to date yesterday in Atlanta, GA, running through December 3rd in Denver, CO (full schedule below).

Nicole Jane are a vocal trio consisting of brothers, Jace B Carreira, Alfie-J Carreira, and Dieu Carreira. Raised in London and officially forming as a musical collective in 2006, Nicole Jane capped off their first year together by winning the best the Official UK Unsigned Contest.

The two pair up for 25th installment of groundbreaking web series

Fall Out Boy vocalist Patrick Stump writes most of the music for his platinum-plus Chicago rock band, but he’s also a closet R&B/soul fan who has produced tracks for fellow Windy City rapper Lupe Fiasco, and is a longtime fan of Daryl Hall’s music, which makes him the perfect guest for the 25th and latest installment of Live From Daryl’s House.

“As a musician, I can’t fathom a show more fun to play than Live From Daryl’s House,” says Stump about his experience playing with Daryl and his band, including T-Bone Wolk, on the web series.

“Patrick Stump is one soulful vocalist,” says Daryl admiringly. “I was really impressed with his grasp of R&B and it turned out we shared a love for a great deal of the same music.”

As a producer, Stump has worked with such bands as Gym Class Heroes, whose vocalist Travis McCoy is also an unabashed Daryl Hall fan and a participant in a previous Live From Daryl’s House.

Fall Out Boy guitarist Joe Trohman calls him “a musical genius, a mad scientist,” while noted producer/performer Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds says, “Patrick is one of the hottest dudes I’ve seen in a long time… He’s got a great voice and a tremendous amount of talent.” Fall Out Boy’s fifth album, Folie a Deux, was released last December, producing the hit singles, “I Don’t Care” and “America’s Suitehearts.”

Stump puts that great voice straight to work, joining Daryl in a seven-song set highlighted by singles “Out of Touch” and “Guessing Games,” the latter from the H2O album. Among the Fall Out Boy songs Daryl and Patrick perform are versions of “I Don’t Care,” “What a Catch, Donny” and “Sugar, We’re Goin Down” along with a cover of Jimmy Ruffin’s soul classic, “What Becomes of the Broken-Hearted.”

Over the past four years, Twisted Folk Tours have become known for adventurous, hand picked line-ups representing the best in modern folk and twisted popular music.

It’s Twisted Folk who put together this year’s highly successful collaboration between UK pastoral pop group Tunng and Malawian desert bluesmen Tinariwen. Who assembled Nina Nastasia, Jeffrey Lewis and William Elliot Whitmore for an extra-special special tour. Sent Howe Gelb and the Voices Of Praise Choir off on a nine-date jaunt around the UK, packaged King Creoste with Jose Gonzalez and Vetiver (then featuring Devendra Banhart) with Micah P Hinson and Vashti Bunyan.

They’ve outdone themselves once again with this latest tour, showcasing two of the most talented young acts in the country – Stornoway and Beth Jeans Houghton – in what promise to be some truly unmissable shows.

Named after the Hebridean island but hailing from Oxford, Stornoway are a four-piece band of songsmiths, scholars, scientists and men of the earth.

The last couple of years have seen them quietly honing their art in the shadows of the dreaming spires, and earlier this year they released their first official single; the critically acclaimed “Zorbing”. Their charming brand of quintessential pop, steeped in pastoral hues, won them fans across radio and press.

They were booked to play an unprecedented 4 stages at Glastonbury Festival 2009, Radio 1 asked them to headline their ‘Introducing Stage’ at their Big Weekend and they are one of only a few bands that both Radio 1 and 6 Music have agreed to collaborate on, granting Stornoway a shared broadcast session from the prestigious Maida Vale studios.

The band, who embarked on their first tour of the UK in mid-October to coincide with their second single “Unfaithful”, also performed on Later With Jools Holland in November alongside JayZ and Foo Fighters.

Beth Jeans Houghton is the Newcastle singer who, to paraphrase The Guardian, joins the dots between Gwen Stefani and Vashti Bunyan. Beth Jeans Houghton has been playing guitar since the age of 16. She’s only 19 now. In the meantime, she’s supported Tunng and Tinariwen, hobnobbed with Vetiver, the late John Martyn, Bon Iver and Joanna Newsome and recorded a single, “Golden/Nightswimmer” with Adem and more recent an EP ‘Hot Toast Volume 1’ with Mike Lindsay from Tunng.

She was the popular hit at 2009’s Green Man festival and has been hitting the road with her band, The Hooves Of Destiny.

An album is on currently being produced by Ben Hillier, the production mastermind behind Elbow’s Cast Of Thousands, Doves’s Some Cities and Blur’s Think Tank.

“I plan to dip my toes into many genres before I quit this mortal coil,” says Beth. “I don’t define my music and I try not to let music define me. We are two separate entities, but we get together for a shindig once in a while – and I intend to keep it that way.”

Exploding into the mainstream with their smash hit single “21 Seconds” in 2001, So Solid were hailed as the Wu Tang of two-step. Their take on UK garage was like nothing else the UK had ever heard.

The ‘First Lady’ of So Solid, Lisa Maffia forged a successful solo career for herself achieving 2 Top 10 singles and a slot supporting Christina Aguilera on her stadium European tour. Lisa gained her very own MOBO award in 2003 for Best UK Garage Act. In 2005 she set up her own independent record label, Maffia Recordz, which became home to artists such as Northstar and fellow So Solid member MC Romeo. In October 2008, Lisa won ITV2’s Celeb Air, and has since made several TV appearances including Never Mind the Buzzcocks.

MC Romeo also embarked on a solo career and achieved UK chart success with the hit singles “Romeo Dunn” and “It’s All Gravy” featuring American R&B songstress Christina Milian. Romeo’s popularity even landed him his own TV game show on Channel 4, ‘Fool Around with Romeo’, in which he was put into a big brother style environment with four girls and had to guess which of them was single. A regular in the pages of GQ, FHM and Glamour, he’s also graced our TV screens with the BBC’s ‘Don’t Tell the Bride’.

Fresh from the studio, Fight Fair are now supporting Breathe Carolina on the EZ Bronz Tour along with Cash Cash, Stephen Jerzak and Kill Paradise.

The band finished recording their full length debut in San Diego with Mike Green (Paramore, Set Your Goals) and will begin mixing shortly for a Spring 2010 release.

Originally spawned from San Diego State University’s infamous party scene, Fight Fair’s members came together with a wide range of influences from pop-punk, screamo, hip-hop, hardcore, emo and more.

Lead vocalist Alex Bigman describes the bands sound as “uplifting and positive while maintaining the aggressive sound we grew up with.” Taking influences from early 1960s surf pop rock and traditional ’70s powerpop punk for the full length, Bigman states, “don’t be surprised to hear some Beach Boys style harmonies; no one will be able to compare it to anything else.”

At the end of the night, the winners will hand in their cameras and their footage will be edited together into a comprehensive concert piece fully shot by her biggest fans and, in essence, creating three new official live videos for Lady Gaga.

Carlos Santana’s son readies solo debut album

Music is a burst of choices. Not only what note to play when and with what instrument, but whether to play a note at all.

Salvador Santana, the 26-year-old keyboardist, vocalist, composer, and songwriter with strong Bay Area roots, knows what it means to navigate the infinite options of music. His 2008 project with the Salvador Santana Band – simply called SSB – pursued the scope of his ability. But for Santana, it wasn’t enough. He has no choice but to push himself further.

Collaboration has always been the centerpiece of his creations, and this passion manifested his solo debut ‘Keyboard City’ around the inspirations of a few legends: Bay Area MC/producer Del the Funky Homosapien who helped hone in Santana’s writing skills, Beastie Boy studio wizard Money Mark, and GZA of the Wu-Tang Clan.

The legendary founder of the Wu-Tang Clan rallied support around the album by featuring himself on remix of the title track “Keyboard City” earlier this fall.

The long anticipated debut hits the streets in February of 2010 followed by extensive touring with his keyboard-laden band featuring a three-person keyboard assault with Santana at the head.

Money Mark inspired Santana in a beautiful way during the creation process. “With all the people I’ve ever collaborated with or just working by myself, I have never produced so many ideas into songs as I have during these Money Mark sessions. That guy is just a machine,” said Santana.

Money Mark opened up a new way of recording that was previously unknown to Santana. “He has mentored me by showing me that it’s cool to be all over the pace. It’s cool to sit there and work on a song, then out of nowhere, interrupt that flow and work on another idea. To just go with it.”, Santana elaborates.

Santana is pushed by a need to step out of his comfort zone in a quest for new ideas. Easy going and humble, Santana exudes the Bay Area vibe. He began playing the drums at age three – sitting on his father’s lap, controlling the snare and tom, as his father worked the hi-hat and kick drum – but his true love was discovered when he began taking piano lessons when he was six. Later, he studied at San Francisco’s heralded School of the Arts before attending Cal Arts in Valencia, CA.

His education, passion and lineage has turned Santana into a monster on the keys, leading him to say that he’s “a musician first, a vocalist second and a performer second-and-a-half.”

Music truly thrives in his veins. His maternal grandfather was blues pioneer Saunders King and his paternal grandfather was the internationally celebrated violinist and mariachi bandleader Jose Santana. And, of course, his father is 10X Grammy-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Carlos Santana … who’s also a frequent collaborator (Salvador co-wrote “El Farol” from 1999’s smash album Supernatural).

But with his upcoming solo project, Salvador Santana will truly become a brand of his own.

“With the Salvador Santana Band record I was very passive and insecure, only because I wasn’t listening to my gut, allowing my second opinions to get to me. Knowing what I know now, I could have played that part better. I don’t ever want to have that feeling ever again.”

In addition to his musical desires, Santana has worldly efforts on his mind. After a trip to South Africa and inspiring work with Artists for a New South Africa (ANSA), something triggered inside of Santana to make sure his music wasn’t only about personal glory.

Once the record is released and he begins touring the project, Salvador will be posting various non-profit organizations on his website that will receive a percentage of the profits. “I want to use music in a positive way, and give back to people in need. There can never be enough people who do that.” And there can never be enough musicians pushing their art to the brink.

The album, which features recently remastered versions of numerous classic Bob Seger songs from the early 1970s and four previously unreleased recordings, will be available at Meijer’s beginning November 24th.

Starting the following Monday, November 30, 2009, fans can purchase the CD or a full album download at the artist’s recently re-launched website, www.bobseger.com, where snippets of each of the 10 songs can currently be heard.

The multi-Platinum rocker comes full circle with the album, returning to the Hideout Records label, which released his early singles and several of his early albums.

In September, Seger entered Kid Rock’s Allen Roadhouse studio and Yessian Studios in suburban Detroit to re-record elements of four previously unreleased tracks for the collection: “Gets Ya Pumpin’,” “Star Tonight,” “Wildfire” and “Days When the Rain Would Come.”

While in the studio, Seger also re-recorded much of “Long Song Comin’” from 1974’s Seven. In addition, Early Seger Vol. 1 includes five remastered tracks – “Someday” and his version of Tim Hardin’s “If I Were A Carpenter” from Smokin’ O.P’s (released in 1972), Seger’s cover of the Allman Brothers Band’s “Midnight Rider” from Back in ‘72 (1973) and “Get Out Of Denver” and “U.M.C. (Upper Middle Class)” from Seven. The three albums preceded Beautiful Loser, his 1975 breakthrough record.

The cover for the new collection features a photo of Seger shot by Tom Weschler, who spent more than 10 years working as tour manager and photographer during Seger’s hard-gigging early days.

The packaging features photos from Weschler’s new book, “Travelin’ Man: On the Road and Behind the Scenes With Bob Seger,” co-authored with award-winning music journalist Gary Graff. The book features Weschler’s photographs, text by Graff, a foreword by John Mellencamp, and an afterword by Kid Rock. The book was released last month and has spent 5 weeks at #1 on the U.S. Public University Presses sales chart.

Guitar Center Announces King of the Blues Champion!

Kirby Kelly Crowned America’s Top Undiscovered Blues Guitarist in World’s Largest Guitar Competition!

On Thursday November 12th in front of a capacity crowd at House of Blues in Hollywood CA, Kirby Kelly of Sherman, Texas beat out more than 4,000 guitarists to be crowned Guitar Center’s 2009 King of the Blues.

Kirby Kelly competed against four other undiscovered blues guitarists from all across the country to a panel of celebrity judges that included Jimmy Vivino of the Tonight Show Band, Elliot Easton of The Cars, accomplished session musician Blues Saraceno, blues legend Hubert Sumlin of Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters, renowned blues guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Grammy Award winner Pete Anderson, Steve Lukather of Toto, Editor-in-Chief of Guitar World Brad Tolinski, and Dweezil Zappa.

Hosted by Grammy-Nominated blues guitarist Kenny Wayne Shepherd, the event was a celebration of guitar and the music (The Blues) that has defined and influenced generations of musicians and all of today’s popular music.

Grammy Award winning producer and guitarist Pete Anderson kicked-off the show with a set of red-hot blues, which was followed by the King of the Blues final competition where each of five contestants fronted a vintage black tuxedo-clad live band lead by Pete Anderson.

Performing to a live rendition of 1 of the 25 official King of the Blues backing-tracks, the five contestants also were required to perform a two-minute solo-performance on a Gibson acoustic guitar to display their ability to master two major aspects of the guitar.

Following the contestants’ performances Guitar Center’s King of the Blues Finals culminated with an electrifying performance by blues great Joe Bonamassa, who invited a series of surprise special guest musicians to join him on-stage for an exclusive collaboration which included Hubert Sumlin, Steve Lukather, Jimmy Vivino, Elliot Easton, and Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple and Black Sabbath.

Kelly’s victory was his crowning moment on the long road to being named Guitar Center’s King of the Blues. A life-long blues player, Kirby Kelly has been playing the blues for his family and friends for years.

Entered by a friend in the King of the Blues competition, Kelly beat out over 4,000 other guitarists in five rounds of grueling competition. After his victory, Kelly was awarded an impressive package of prizes, including $25,000 cash, along with a Gibson ‘59 Les Paul reissue guitar, a $2,500 Levi’s® shopping spree, a Marshall Vintage Modern 50 watt half stack, a Boss GT-10 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal, a feature in Guitar World magazine, worldwide distribution of their music in iTunes and more, plus endorsement deals from Ernie Ball, Marshall Amplification, VOX Amplification and Gibson. End Times follows on the heels of Eels’ critically acclaimed 2009 release Hombre Lobo, hailed by Vanity Fair as “anti-anthems that get your dopamine pumping instead of your fist” and praised by Rolling Stone for its “muddy roadhouse rockers.”

Largely self-recorded on an old four track tape machine in the basement of Everett’s Los Angeles home, the “end times” he writes about isn’t “Mayan calendar conspiracy theory bullshit,” says Everett, but, “the state of the desperate times we live in. The bottom line-ness of it all.”

While Hombre Lobo was written from the point of view of a fictional character (namely, the Dog Faced Boy of Eels’ 2001 album Souljacker), End Times is purely real life as Everett sees it: a “divorce album” with a modern twist. He equates his personal loss with the world he lives in losing its integrity. This isn’t Everett’s first break-up record. His 1993 solo effort, Broken Toy Shop, chronicled the broken heart of a young man in his twenties. End Times focuses on the loss of a middle-aged man growing as an artist. The loss has more weight.

As for the timing of the release, “I felt guilty about the long gap between the last two albums so I’m making up for lost time,” Everett says. The longest gap between Eels albums (four years between the 2005 release Blinking Lights and Other Revelations and the 2009 Hombre Lobo) is being followed by the shortest (six months between Hombre Lobo and End Times).

During the four years prior to Hombre Lobo Everett embarked on a number of projects including his acclaimed book Things the Grandchildren Should Know and the BBC produced multiple-award winning Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives documentary film about Everett and his quantum physicist father, Hugh Everett III, which was broadcast on PBS’ Nova series in the fall of 2008.

Everett says he’s now “back to my real job: making music full time.”
