Guitar Center Announces District Final Winners of World’s Largest Blues Guitar Contest

Winners Move on to Regional Finals on October 21 in Brooklyn, Nashville, Arlington Heights, Dallas, and Hollywood!

Grand Finals in Hollywood on November 12, 2009

Featuring Joe Bonamassa, Pete Anderson, and the Top Five Undiscovered Blues Guitar Players in the Country!

Last Wednesday, the top 24 undiscovered blues guitarists in the nation were selected to move on to the King of the Blues Regional Finals, moving one step closer to being crowned Guitar Center’s King of the Blues and $25,000 cash. On October 21, 2009, these winners will once again go head-to-head, competing to move on to The King of the Blues Grand Finals scheduled for November 12th in Hollywood.

Tickets are currently on sale for the King of the Blues Grand Finals, which are scheduled for November 12 at the House of Blues Sunset in Hollywood, CA. In addition to showcasing the top five finalists as they compete for the King of the Blues crown and $25,000 cash, the King of the Blues Grand Finals will also feature performances by renowned blues guitarist and Gibson artist Joe Bonamassa, who has been awarded “Best Blues Guitarist” by Guitar Player Magazine for the past three years, as well as Grammy Award winner Pete Anderson. Tickets for this very special event are just $20, and are available at Ticketmaster.com or the HOB box office.

Like Guitar Center’s other talent search competitions - the legendary Drum-Off (now in its 21st year), and the recently launched On-Stage - King of the Blues is part of Guitar Center’s ongoing mission to provide emerging artists and musicians with career-altering opportunities and vehicles to achieve success.

Introduced in 2006, King of the Blues is more than just a competition to find the most technically skilled players. King of the Blues is designed to seek out the most passionate, innovative and authentic guitar players and give them a shot at stardom.

For example, the winner of Guitar Center’s 2007 King of the Blues, Aaron Loesch, was invited to perform at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Festival in front of over 25,000 attendees.

How It Works:

Each contestant must perform live to 1 of 25 original backing tracks, developed by Grammy Award winning producer, Pete Anderson, which have been made available for free download at www.guitarcenter.com/kingoftheblues

Contestants may bring and use any 6, 7, or 12 string acoustic or electric guitar, lap steel or pedal steel guitar, plus any audio pedal effects that can be set-up in a 5 minute time limit, all of which will be plugged into a selection of amplifiers provided by Guitar Center.

District competitions took place on September 30 where one winner was chosen from each of 24 districts. Those winners now move up to regionally hosted semi-finals (5 locations), culminating in the final King of the Blues Grand Finals competition in Los Angeles on November 12th.

Guitar Center’s King of the Blues champion will win an impressive package of prizes, including $25,000 cash, along with a Gibson Guitar ’59 Les Paul reissue guitar, a $2,500 Levi’s® shopping spree, a Marshall Vintage Modern 50 watt half stack, a Boss GT-10 Guitar Multi Effects Pedal, a feature in Guitar World magazine, worldwide distribution of their music in iTunes and more, plus endorsement deals from Ernie Ball, Marshall Amplification, VOX Amplification and Gibson. Additional regional, district and local prize packages will also be awarded, thanks to the generous support of Gibson Guitar, Levi’s®, Ernie Ball, Marshall, Boss, VOX, Guitar World Magazine and TuneCore, all of whom are proud partners of Guitar Center’s King of the Blues.

UPCOMING 2009 COMPETITION DATES:

Regional finals: October 21st
Grand Finals: November 12th

Some of today’s most iconic and groundbreaking artists, including BB King, John Mayer, The Black Crowes, Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Hubert Sumlin have participated at past King of the Blues events.

With “the Blues” being the foundation for nearly all of today’s popular music, the search for the nation’s greatest undiscovered blues guitarist is expected to unearth a goldmine of unsigned talent, some of whom are destined to become tomorrow’s legends.

Hardcore Metallic Punks, 2009 WBCN Rumble Semi-Finalists, and heavy touring band Destruct-a-thon are calling it a day and letting their beast of a band rest on a Viking ship set aflame and off to sea forever.

Nine years, 122 shows, 26 cities, six line-ups, and 30-ish songs will all come to an end on Saturday afternoon October 24, 2009 at The Midway Café in Jamaica Plain, MA. The band will play a long set, with as many returning/former band members as possible.

In the summer of 2000, Destruct-a-thon erupted from a mildew soaked basement in Allston, MA. They played their first show on July 14, 2001 at The Abbey Lounge, opening for Heavy Stud and Cracktorch. Since then, they released two EPs and one full length record on their own label (Thrashachusetts). Destruct-a-thon was in the process of writing a full-length record, but instead fans will have to accept demo recordings as the band’s final document.

Killing it like they meant it, Destruct-a-thon was primarily known for their intense live performances, sharing the stage with the likes of The Bronx, The Dillinger Escape Plan, Seemless, Tree, The Freeze, and Kylesa. Michele Morgan and Pattie The Gimp delivered furious guitar riffs. Eric O’Brien, Eman Pacheco, and Nate Linehan slammed the drums with total groove and fast paced insanity. Sean Linehan and Ed Bredenberg attacked with low-end bass thunder. Duncan Wilder Johnson’s “mental patient on crack” stage presence left audiences in absolute fear and crazed enthusiasm.

In the last 3 years of the their existence, the band garnished praise in East Coast newspapers and international metal and punk blogs. Their last show ever will slaughter with the heat of 10,000 suns.

Group cancels CBS Early Show performance and Hard Rock Cafe NYC Pinktober signing

Other three members and traveling party taking preventive measures

The Backstreet Boys are sad to announce they have cancelled their NYC PINKTOBER Hard Rock Café signing due to member, Brian Litrell having been diagnosed with the Swine Flu.

The other 3 members, Nick Carter, Howie Dorough and AJ McLean have seen a doctor and are not showing any symptoms. As a preventive measure, the doctor has prescribed Tamiflu to the group and their touring party, who had just returned to the states from Tokyo.

This unfortunate occurrence will also result in the cancelling of the group's CBS Early Show performance Tuesday October 6th. BSB was scheduled to perform their new single "Straight Through My Heart." The intimate performance at PC Richards (downtown) has also been cancelled and rescheduled for a later date.

"We were really looking forward to spending time with our closest fans and friends in NYC and take part of PINKTOBER, an unbelievable and important program" Litrell says. "I hope we can come back soon and do everything we can to help."

The Backstreet Boys are in New York in support of their new album THIS IS US, out October 6th on Jive Records. The rest of the band's promotional schedule for this week has not been determined. Details to come.

Meleka is the UK's brightest and hottest new talent. Armed with one of the biggest dance floor records of the year, her debut single "Go" is currently causing a storm across radio waves and club land throughout the UK and Europe and is set to be a massive hit when its released in Autumn.

Hailing from north-west London singer / songwriter Meleka, 21, was crowned HUGO URBAN RULES winner in 2008 after wowing music industry execs as well as chart toppers Estelle and Sabrina Washington.

It was Meleka's soaring vocals, self-penned songs and fearless nature that made her the firm favourite for the grand prize at the prestigious urban talent event. "I couldn't believe Sabrina and Estelle wanted me to share the same stage as them. It was such a privilege," Meleka modestly admits.

As well as winning the chance to support Estelle at HUGO URBAN RULES headline gig in Manchester Meleka also appeared in the subsequent MTV Base show which was broadcast over 100 times on the channel!!

Meleka has continued to make moves and will be featured alongside Kelis and Chipmunk on the title track of Basement Jaxx new album 'Scars'.

She has also recorded a feature on Don E's new single "Time Is Now" alongside Mutya Buena and has been tipped as one to watch.

This year will see a life long dream of Meleka's become a reality with the release of her debut single, the funky house anthem "Go" produced by the Crazy Cousinz.

We don't use the term anthem lightly either, the track has already had almost 1 million views on Youtube from fans radio rips alone and 300,000 plays on Myspace.

It has been on the A List @ BBC 1xtra since the beginning of April and has been receiving plays from Galaxy Network, Kiss FM, and Choice FM all without being serviced to radio. Once serviced, Choice FM playlisted the track immediately.

"Go" was also recently picked as Urban Record Of The Month by Mixmag.

Watch "Go" video:

The video for "Go" was directed by Ben Jones who started directing three years ago and was recently signed to Partizan films. He is now represented by Davey Inc and previous work includes projects for The Streets, Lily Allen, Oasis and Example.

Once you hear Meleka's fresh, irresistible vocals and her passionate song writing ability you'll understand why others are referring to her as the next big thing to come out of the UK, with talent enough to hold her own on the world stage.

The Forcefield Kids are set to release 'Harmony & Discord' EP (DFNT Records).

This is the second release by The Forcefield Kids and is the follow up to their critically acclaimed debut, Home EP.

This record shows a shift towards a more jazzy, bass driven sound whilst still keeping the lo-fi and alternative rock stylings of the first EP. Both EPs will serve as the basis for the as yet unnamed album slated for release early next year.

The first EP was very well recieved by critics and the public alike and we feel that this EP will appeal not only to Hip-Hop fans but also to anyone that enjoys intelligent, original music.

Digital Release: 2nd November 2009

Praise for the Home EP:

“They themselves say that they 'have always striven to deliver alt.hiphop with depth and maturity' and IMHO they have succeeded mightily...” - Rebelriffs.blogspot.com

“...their music is full of energy, they believe in what they’re singing about. It’s the kind of thing that crosses genres and makes people take note of you no matter if you’re singing or rapping.” - Lithiumradio.org

“The Forcefield Kids have created an epic E.P where futuristic shadowy beats gel flawlessly with lyrical flows which are equally deep and meaningful. With E.P number two, entitled Harmony And Discord, more or less finished let’s hope this duo keep flying the flag for the north, producing interesting original British Hip-Hop and some point soon get the credit and fame they deserve.” - Britishhiphop.co.uk

“The musical backdrop can veer from the woozy to the pastoral to the sharp and is a supremely confident piece of work. And the rapped commentary is whip-smart; boundless energy being drawn from a deep well of reserves to keep the whole enterprise right on the money. This is Hip-Hop with intelligence, wit and no little grace.” - The Crack Magazine

Features Stewart's stunning interpretations of sixties / seventies era soul classics including "(Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher & Higher", "It's The Same Old Song" and more

Superstar duets include Mary J. Blige on “You Make Me Feel Brand New” and Jennifer Hudson on “Let It Be Me”

Stevie Wonder accompanies Rod on harmonica on his very own massive hit “My Cherie Amour”

Smokey Robinson guests on one of his signature Songs “Tracks of My Tears”

Grammy Award-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Rod Stewart will be releasing SOULBOOK on November 9, 2009, (RCA Records), a collection of classic Sixties / Seventies-era soul favourites all newly recorded by the quintessential “blue eyed soul” singer of our generation.

Rod Stewart possesses one of the most distinctive and interpretive voices in music -- his Grammy-Award winning recordings of the Great American Songbook have sold over 19 million albums and is the biggest selling ongoing series of new music recordings in history. With the same passion, Rod approaches some of the greatest soul songs ever written.

Rod recently said in Rolling Stone’s "Greatest Singers of All Time" issue that at the age of 15, he used to listen to soul singers on the radio like Sam Cooke and Otis Redding, and blues singers like Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters, and knew that is how he wanted to sing.

Elton John said “Bar none, Rod’s the best singer I've heard in rock 'n' roll. He's also the greatest white soul singer” and in 2006, James Brown called Stewart "the best white soul singer."

Comments Rod Stewart:

“This is the album I’ve waited my whole lifetime to record. These are the songs that I’ve danced to, made love to, cried to and yes, even fell on the floor to as a young man in the infancy of my career. These songs and singers were the oxygen that fuelled my passion to sing. When I was a skinny, cocky, all-mouth and trousers teenager living in North London without two pennies to rub together, I discovered the artistry of Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Jackie Wilson, James Brown, The Temptations, The Four Tops and so many more. They were my Gods and my heroes.”

The album features two stunning superstar duets, one with Mary J. Blige joining Rod on the Stylistics’ 70s hit “You Make Me Feel Brand New” and the other with Jennifer Hudson on “Let It Be Me,” inspired by the Jerry Butler/Betty Everett duet.

In addition, soul great Smokey Robinson guests on “Tracks of My Tears” which he made famous as a member of the Miracles who recorded that track in 1965, and musical giant Stevie Wonder accompanies Rod on harmonica on his massive 1969 hit “My Cherie Amour.”

Album producers include Stewart’s longtime collaborator Steve Tyrell who worked with Rod on his Grammy award-winning Songbook series, and joining Rod for the first time is Grammy/Emmy award-winning producer Steve Jordan (Keith Richards, John Mayer) who bring legendary musicians into the studio including Motown players Bob Babbitt and George Bohannen, Memphis legends Willy Mitchell, Charles Hodges, Wayne Jackson and Jack Hale.

Additional musical heavyweights include Ray Parker, Jr., Dean Parks, Waddy Wachtel, Darryl Jones, Leland Sklar, David Paich, Greg Phillinganes, Michael Bearden, Tom Scott, Chuck Finley, Ricky Lawson, many of whom played on the original recordings of these classic songs.

Recorded this summer and engineered by Al Schmitt, Sam Cooke’s original producer/engineer, along with Niko Bolas (Neil Young, Warren Zevon, Keith Richards) and Bill Schnee (Steely Dan, Marvin Gaye, Gladys Knight), the album features Rod singing great landmark tracks such as “You’ve Really Got A Hold On Me” (originally performed by The Miracles), “Wonderful World” (Sam Cooke), “What Becomes of the Brokenhearted” (Jimmy Ruffin), “Tracks of My Tears” (The Miracles), “My Cherie Amour (Stevie Wonder)”, “Just My Imagination” (The Temptations), “Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher & Higher” (Jackie Wilson), ”It’s The Same Old Song” (The Four Tops), “If You Don't Know Me By Now” (Harold Melvin and & Blue Notes), and “Love Train” (O’Jays). Find a complete track listing below.

With an estimated 250 million in album and single sales, Rod Stewart is one of the most successful performers of all time. A Grammy-Award winning Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Rod Stewart's Great American Songbook series has been a record-breaking success.

In 2006, he released Still The Same, Great Rock Classics of Our Time, his first rock album in over eight years, which entered the UK charts at #4 and in the U.S. at #1. He has sold out concerts across the globe and his last 5 studio albums have held the top spots on the Billboard charts. Rod spent this summer recording the album and criss-crossing the country on a 20 city North American tour.
