Bryan Adams storms back with his 11th studio album, entitled ‘11′ on March 17th, 2008 through Polydor Records, packed full of unmistakeable rockers and signature ballads.

The lead single “I Thought I’d Seen Everything” is a Bryan Adams classic in the making – a rocky, mid-tempo track that has already gone onto radio playlists on both side of the Atlantic.

‘11′ was recorded largely in hotel rooms and backstage dressing rooms around the world during the past two years and feature the return of his long time collaborator Jim Vallance on three cuts. The Adams/Vallance partnership was responsible for many of Bryan’s classic hits including “Heaven”, “Summer of 69″ and “Run To You.”

From the uplifting “Broken Wings” to the sultry “Mysterious Ways” to the anthem-like “Something To Believe In” [that's boasts a chorus that should fill stadiums across the world], Bryan Adams’ 11th recording of original material is yet another milestone in a career that has spanned two and a half decades.

Whether it is the plaintive guitar solo in “Oxygen” or the reflective strains of “I Ain’t Losin’ The Fight,” the songs hold the listener and transport them, underscoring once again why Adams is in such demand as a songwriter and concert performer. ‘11′ is destined to bring new live favourites to the stage that would easily sit alongside Adam’s extensive catalogue of greatest hits.

In support of the release of the album, Adams will be putting on a unique ‘11 concerts, 11 cities’ tour, taking in 11 different countries in just 11 days. The intimate shows at some spectacular venues will see Bryan perform an acoustic set, on stage, with just his guitar and harmonica. The London show will be on 11th March, 2008 at St James Church in Piccadilly.

To coincide with the album and tour, an exhibition of Bryan Adams photographs will be held at London’s historic National Portrait Gallery, entitled ‘Modern Muses’.

Introducing…Jack McManus. See Jack McManus at his piano, and it’s hard to imagine man and keyboard apart. The musical hooks fly in from all corners on his debut album, ‘Either Side of Midnight’, but if there’s one constant it’s the part played by Jack’s take-everywhere upright.

It’s a surprise, then, to learn most of his songs started life as melody lines worked out on a trumpet. The mad-haired 23-year-old looks an unlikely candidate for a career as a professional trumpet player, but that’s the way things were heading until his demo of (brass-free) songs landed him both a publishing and record deal earlier this year.

The son of a rock & roll pyrotechnics expert from Bromley, Jack grew up listening to the likes of Elton John and Billy Joel; an un-snobby devotion to stick-in-your-head melodies is a hallmark of his song writing. Jack’s talents had their first recorded outing earlier this year on Groove Armada’s ‘Soundboy Rock’ album. He co-wrote “From The Rooftops”, and a spacey version of his voice propels the finished track on its Erik Satie-ish path.

His vocals get a warmer, live-sounding treatment courtesy of producer Steve Robson on ‘Either Side of Midnight’ (Universal Music Record Label). It’s an instantly-accessible, refreshingly “up” album, as evidenced by the joyous first single “Bang On The Piano”.

Other highlights are the unashamedly beautiful “Fine Time To Lose Your Mind” with its echoes of the Eagles and Wichita Lineman, the glorious singalong “You Think I Don’t Care” and the title track, which recalls the swoonsome pop of the Alessi Brothers.

For Mardi Gras this year (February 5th, 2008), OK Go released ‘You’re Not Alone’, a five-song digital EP featuring New Orleans brass band Bonerama (as in TROMbone, of which there are four in the band). All proceeds from this project, available exclusively at iTunes, will benefit members of New Orleans’ music community. People like R&B legend Al “Carnival Time” Johnson, who are continuing to struggle to rebuild their homes and lives almost three years after the levy failures that followed Hurricane Katrina, the costliest hurricane in US history and one of the deadliest.

The project was born when OK Go singer Damian Kulash teamed up with Bonerama to play a New Orleans benefit concert last year. Completely blown away by Bonerama’s fiercely indelicate sound, Kulash knew it would mesh perfectly with his band’s bombastic rock. They reconvened, and spent Katrina’s second anniversary at Piety Street Studios, deep in New Orlean’s Upper 9th Ward, recording what would become ‘You’re Not Alone’. Together, they re-interpret three tracks from OK Go’s most recent album, Oh No: “A Million Ways,” “It’s A Disaster” and “Oh Lately It’s So Quiet.” A pair of covers – David Bowie’s “Rock ‘n’ Roll Suicide” and Bob Dylan’s “I Shall Be Released” – round out the collection.

OK Go and Bonerama continue to play together live, and their benefit concerts in New Orleans and Washington, D.C. have brought out people like Brendan Canty (Fugazi), Russ Feingold (the coolest guy in the senate), and President Bill Clinton’s Press Secretary Joe Lockhart, who personally raised $18K for New Orleans relief from friends he brought to one show.

Proceeds from ‘You’re Not Alone’ will go to Sweet Home New Orleans, an organization dedicated to helping repatriate and support the thousands of local musicians who were scattered by Katrina, as well as building a new Habitat For Humanity home for Al “Carnival Time” Johnson. Johnson wrote “Carnival Time,” the unofficial anthem of Mardi Gras, and his haunting vocals can be heard on ‘You’re Not Alone’s’ “I Shall Be Released.” His Lower 9th Ward home was washed off its foundation by the levee failures during Hurricane Katrina and later demolished by the city without his knowledge or consent. He has been living in Houston, TX for the past two years.

“New Orleans is one of the last places in America where music is truly a fundamental part of everyday life,” said Kulash. “People get together on the weekends and parade through the streets just playing songs; 12-year-old-kids learn funk on the tuba; everyone dances. Life elsewhere in the world simply isn’t as celebratory. If we allow the culture of New Orleans to die by leaving its musicians marooned around the country, America will have lost one of its great treasures.”

Bonerama with Damian Kulash are set to appear on David Letterman February 11.

Presently, Louisville, KY native Dawn Landes may be best known for her cover of “Young Folks,” for which she enlisted a group of “old folks” – the WST Bluegrass Band from Austin.

But that’s all going to change with the unveiling of her second album and first formal US release, ‘Fireproof’. ‘Fireproof’s’ first, and perhaps most infectious track, “Bodyguard” was written following the burglary of Dawn’s Brooklyn apartment. She didn’t have much, just a Casio keyboard, a laptop computer and a hard drive…with her complete second album ready for production. Album two, and years of Dawn Landes’ creative work, were gone forever.

“I never looked back or tried to recreate those songs, never played them, nothing. I just started over from scratch. I wrote ‘Bodyguard’ in the kitchen while waiting for the police to show up,” reminisces Dawn.

The aptly named album was recorded live to 2″ tape in a single day in an old fire station in Red Hook, Brooklyn (along with drummer Ray Rizzo, bassist Jonny Flaugher and engineer Adam Lasus.) It’s an astonishing mixture of the urban and the rural. ‘Fireproof’ is like a little kitchen garden planted between high-rise buildings; in it’s own way, a remarkable act of resistance.

“I think albums are always marked by the places where they were conceived or written. New York was bound to color many of the sounds I recorded for Fireproof,” explains Dawn. But at the heart of these songs, there’s still that girl playing the guitar in a cornfield in the Midwest. The only difference is that the corn has been replaced by high-rise buildings.”

‘Fireproof’ will be released March 4, 2008 in the US on Cooking Vinyl.

On February 19, 2008, Brooklyn’s The Epochs will release their self-titled debut LP through The Rebel Group. L.A.’s Hello Stranger will hit the road for a string of dates with the Foo Fighters and Against Me, beginning this month. A band constantly pushing their limits, Hello Stranger’s sound combines elements of both rock and glam, mixed with a hefty dose of raw energy.

After years of touring in true indie DIY fashion, and occasionally supporting friends like Kings of Leon and Rooney on national tours, Hello Stranger are excited to finally get a rider and a proper sound check. But paying their dues has prepared the foursome for these shows where they will be playing tracks from their upcoming release.

The new record will follow the band’s 2006 self-titled debut, a unique blend of folky-dance-rock, released on indie label Aeronaut Records.

For Adam Duritz, ‘Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings’ is “about dissolution and disintegration. It’s about when Saturday night happens and you lose all sense of yourself. And it’s about when you wake up Sunday morning and look back at the wreck you’ve made of your life and you think, ‘How can I possibly fix this? How can I ever climb out of this hole?’ And then you start to try and climb.”

Duritz says of the inspiration for the title, “When I finally realized what this record was about and that it was actually going to be two different records that fit together as one, the title popped into my head immediately. It’s a title that’s been used before in slightly different forms more than once, but none of them were the inspiration for my title. That came from a late night stop at a truck stop somewhere in Georgia while we were touring August and Everything After.

“One day I grabbed this bizarre looking double-cassette by Ralph Stanley called Saturday Night & Sunday Morning. After that, you had to fight me to get it out of the stereo. It’s just an unreal record about sin and redemption with inspired song choices and unearthly performances from Stanley himself and a sea of guests.

“These days, everybody wants to tell you how different every genre of music is and how one kind is good and another isn’t. But on Saturday Night and Sunday Morning, country and bluegrass find a way to effortless prove that it’s all really just music. Our album may not have much redemption in the end but we got all the sin I could live with and at least an attempt to try for something better.”

‘The Wishes And The Glitch’ is the fifth release from Say Hi principle Eric Elbogen (yes, this is the former Say Hi To Your Mom). It doesn’t take too many spins to hear that something very different is happening on his latest effort. The barrage of indiepop songs that fills ‘The Wishes And The Glitch’s’ thirty-six minutes is musically richer than anything Elbogen has done before. Keyboards chime and swoosh, drums bump, basslines wiggle and vocal melodies shoot and fall, converging at the expected intersections some places and surprising with new tangents others.

Newly transplanted to Seattle, WA, the Brooklyn, NY founded Say Hi formed in late 2002, as was Euphobia Records, a label started by Elbogen to facilitate the band’s releases. After relocating to Seattle, Elbogen wrote and recorded ‘The Wishes And The Glitch’ at his home studio over the bulk of 2007. Touring keyboardist/vocalist Nouela Johnston (the touring line-up for Say Hi is ever-evolving) contributed vocals on three of the songs. The Long Winters’ John Roderick and Pedro The Lion / Headphones’ David Bazan also sing on a track each. Everything else was performed by Elbogen, himself.

“Even though half the tracks are instrumentals, I feel like I’m writing pop songs,” – Kaki King

Kaki King returns with her fourth album, ‘Dreaming Of Revenge’, after her contributions to Foo Fighters and Tegan & Sara’s latest albums, and having been nominated for a Golden Globe award for “Into The Wild” together with Eddie Vedder. The album is set for release March 11, 2008 through Velour Music Group.

‘Dreaming Of Revenge’ showcases Kaki King’s desire to branch out with songs that feature electric and pedal-steel guitar, horns, and, for the first time, vocals. Produced by Malcolm Burn, a Grammy-Award winning musician and producer who is known for his work with Daniel Lanois, Peter Gabriel, and Emmylou Harris, ‘Dreaming Of Revenge’ allows us to witness her evolution from acoustic instrumentalist to full-fledged, multi-faceted songwriter.

Previously, her whispery, ethereal voice was mainly used as another element in her sonic arsenal. This time around, King put more effort into both her vocals and the lyrics she wrote for such deeply felt tracks as “Life Being What It Is,” and “2 O’Clock,” which she describes as break-up songs. “The words mean something now,” she says. “They’re actually telling stories.” In 2007, Kaki King branched out into film work, composing original music for several scenes in the Sean Penn-directed film Into The Wild, which also features two of her previously released songs.

The video was directed by Don Tyler, the Cleveland-based music video director best known for his combined use of live action and animation. Tyler has also done videos for Foreign Islands, Mason Proper, Mastodon, Ringworm, Midtown and Don the Reader, and recently directed a live-action trailer for an upcoming sequel to the popular video game Obscure.

The Hives are set to release their latest UK single “We Rule The World (T.H.E.H.I.V.E.S)” on 25th February 2008. The track was recorded with Pharrell Williams in Miami for ‘The Black and White Album’. They’ve been inviting submissions for the sleeve artwork competition, for the new single.

On February 26, 2008 the ever-effervescent psych-pop band Sunny Day Sets Fire will release the Stranger / Remix EP (I Am Sound Records) featuring remixes by CSS, XXXChange from Spank Rock, Diplo and The Cool Kids.
