Iggy & The Stooges – Artist Testimonials

The first thing that you notice about Raw Power is the album cover. I first saw it staring at me from a record store shelf in bonnie Scotland in the mid 70's and my first thoughts were that some psychopath had landed himself a record deal. Even in the glam rock '70s this looked outlandish and made other glam acts seem like mere show business. Iggy looked like he might want to tear your face off, but all I knew was that I wanted to buy this record. Raw Power was like a road sign in my life when I heard it I knew what I wanted to do. I wanted to be like Iggy. It's impossible to overemphasise how influential this record, and for that matter any record by The Stooges, was to me and many others who formed bands.
JIM REID (Jesus & Mary Chain)

I played a benefit show with Iggy in 2009. He rocked the place to the ground and scared the living shit out of a bunch of us supposedly 'bad ass' rockers. He screamed 'play it right this time, C**KSUCKER!!' at the drummer, kicked his number one fan in the balls, and tore around the stage in an awesomely violent manner. Dudes from Rage, Jane's Addiction, Alice in Chains, and the MC5 cowered like small children at the rear of the stage terrified we might fall victim next. When I got a little overconfident and took a tentative step forward- Iggy grabbed me, pulled me to the front of the stage and repeatedly screamed in my face, 'PLAY!!!' I thought I WAS playing but I turned it up a notch. Then he kissed me, did a freaky dance, and yelled 'I LOVE YOU!!'. For me it was an all time career highlight.
TOM MORELLO

Iggy is the godfather of Punk Rock. He represents what we all aspire to be in Rock & Roll. Iggy Pop's influence is what helps us take it one step further.

Released with the participation and support of Jeff Healey's widow, Cristie, Last Call is a 14-track collection on which Healey plays multi-tracked guitar parts, trumpet and sings. On several of the songs, he's accompanied by Ross Wooldridge on piano and clarinet and Drew Jurecka on violin.

Concurrent with this CD in Canada, Stony Plain will also release, Beautiful Noise, a concert DVD featuring Jeff Healey and The Jazz Wizards, his regular jazz performance band, originally recorded for the Toronto-based TV show, "A Beautiful Noise," in January, 2006. In the U.S., the Beautiful Noise DVD will be released on March 23rd and distributed by MVD Entertainment Group.

Last Call was Jeff's last jazz/swing recording before his death in March, 2008 of cancer. Mess of Blues, an album of his fan-favorite blues and roots songs released shortly after he passed away, won the Blues Award for "Best Rock/Blues Release" in 2009; and the Songs from the Road live CD,released in September of 2009, won the "Recording of the Year" at the 2010 Maple Blues Awards.

Last Call was recorded and mixed by long-time Healey friend and bandmate, Alec Fraser, and the package includes extensive liner notes by Colin Bray.

The album features swing guitar instrumentals first recorded by Lonnie Johnson, Eddie Lang and Joe Venuti, to interpretations of songs originally done by Fats Waller, Sidney Bechet and Hoagy Carmichael.

The material ranges from such standards as "Deep Purple," "Pennies from Heaven" and "Autumn in New York," to more obscure songs from the past, including "I'm Holding My Honey's Hand" and "You Can't Pull the Wool Over My Eyes."

Jeff Healey even covers some tunes originally heard during the golden age of cinema, including "Hong Kong Blues" and the haunting them from the motion picture, "Laura."

The new CD also includes a bonus video of "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter" that is playable on most computers, recorded live at Healey's Roadhouse in Toronto on July 21, 2007.

The Beautiful Noise concert DVD features 11 tracks with the Jazz Wizards complete six-piece lineup, none of which are included on Last Call, plus an additional interview and musical footage. Beautiful Noise was directed by Daniel K. Berman and produced by Daniel K. Berman and Paul McNulty.

WE LIVE IN PUBLIC SYNOPSIS:

As the social networks - YouTube, Facebook and Twitter - explode, questions of personal privacy continue to be an issue. But in the '90s, Internet guru, artist, futurist and visionary Josh Harris was experimenting with that very subject. Ten years in the making and culled from 5,000 hours of footage, WE LIVE IN PUBLIC, from award-winning director OndiTimoner (DIG!), documents his tumultuous life for more than a decade to create a riveting, cautionary tale of what to expect as the virtual world inevitably takes control of our lives. Called "remarkable [and] mesmerizing[1]", the 2009 Sundance Grand Jury Prize Winner for Best Documentary reveals the effect the web is having on our society, as seen through the eyes of Harris, "the greatest Internet pioneer you've never heard of". On March 2, 2010 IndiePix® will release the highly acclaimed film, a favorite at prestigious festivals such as Full Frame, Hot Docs, New Directors/New Films, AFI'sSilverdocs and SXSW, in an extras-laden version for $24.95srp, available wherever DVDs are sold, online and at indiepixfilms.com.

Harris, often called the "Warhol of the Web", founded Pseudo.com, the first Internet television network during the infamous dot-com boom of the 1990s. With his "Quiet" bunker project, Harris proved how we willingly trade our privacy for the connection and recognition we all deeply desire, but with every technological advancement, those objects of desire become that much more elusive. Through his experiments, including a six-month stint living with his girlfriend under 24-hour electronic surveillance which led to his mental collapse, Harris demonstrated the price we pay for living in public.

When an artist, regardless of his significance, lists his favorite musicians and performers it is usually met with little fanfare, as over time the names mentioned are almost certainly going to change. But when Frank Zappa did likewise, and actually published a record of his most important influences on the inside cover of his debut album, it became a road map to the music he was to make over the following forty years. Even in the early 1990s, when asked about his most-loved composer's, musicians and artists, he would repeat names from this, by then legendary, index.

This film explores the musical roots of Frank Zappa by putting "The Freak Out List" under the microscope and tracing the lineage from the most pivotal names therein to the recordings and performances of the man himself.

Featuring rare footage of Zappa and the Mothers plus archive film of Freak Out List artists, exclusive interviews with The Mothers Of Invention's Ian Underwood, Don Preston and George Duke, 1950s Doo Wop legends, The Cadillacs, contributions from Zappa biographers Ben Watson and Greg Russo, Edgar Varese biographer Alan Clayson, experimental modern music historian Professor David Nicholls, soul and R'n'B expert Robert Pruter and many others.

Also features numerous seldom seen photographs, news archive, radio spots and a host of other features which all together make for a uniquely fascinating program.

What turns a good band into a great one is usually just the right mix of downright dedication, damned hard work and a special kind of talent which allows for the creation of music that will touch multiple generations.

This is certainly the ingredient list which Muse have employed while creating a sound and image that has captured a fan-base larger than that of just about anyone else around at the moment.

Superbly backed by Max Middleton, Jeff Allen, Kuma Harada and Denny Newman, Sir Mick revisits in grand style his now classic repertoire - check Losing My Faith - as well as tunes of Muddy Waters, Bob Dylan and - play it again Mick! - of the Rolling Stones.

In the summer of 2008, iconic surfer and former Pipe Master, Rob Machado, flew to Indonesia to experience a different kind of surf trip. The journey ultimately took him way beyond his comfort zone, where he was finally alone with his thoughts, desires and the empty perfection of an unnamed Indian Ocean reef. What he discovered was beautifully captured in the autobiographical film, The Drifter.

Be apart of his life changing adventure when the DVD is released on November 3, 2009 courtesy of Hurley and Warner Bros. Records.

In celebration of the upcoming DVD release, Rob and the film's director, Taylor Steele (Poor Specimen) sat down to give fans a look behind-the-scenes of the film and explained how Hurley teamed up with the Sumba Foundation to bring clean water to a entire village.

Since 2001, The Sumba Foundation has remained deeply committed to lessening the consequences of poverty on the island of Sumba. They provide humanitarian aid by fostering village-based projects that impact health (including services and malaria control), education, water and income-generation, while continuing to preserve and respect the fragile culture and traditions of the Sumbanese people.

The Funhouse Tour has received unprecedented critical acclaim from across the country:

"Even in an era of escalating pop spectacle, Pink's ‘Funhouse’ tour is going to be hard to top... Onstage she was a down-to-earth superwoman." - The New York Times

“Pink even pulled off an impressive version of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’...Like everything in Friday’s concert- like everything in Pink’s career- the song was a gamble, but one that the singer made look like a piece of cake.” - Los Angeles Times

“One of the best rock shows of the year.” - New York Post

“Pink knows how to challenge, titillate, lure and wow the crowd…Pink combines showmanship with her powerhouse vocals.” - Chicago Tribune

“Pink imported her Funhouse tour to the states, bringing a show filled with razzle-dazzle covers and stunts ...” - Rolling Stone

“During a two-hour, turbo-charged performance at Key Arena, the platinum-blonde powerhouse overshadowed trapeze dancers, huge inflatable harlequins, Broadway-worthy choreography, and a pillow fight (!), wowing the packed crowd with her charisma, athleticism, and -- most disarming of all -- sense of humor.” - SPIN

Since her debut in 2000, P!nk has been widely hailed as a fearlessly talented singer/songwriter.

To date, the Pennsylvania native has sold 30 million albums cumulatively worldwide.

Her previous albums include: her four million-unit selling debut, Can’t Take Me Home (2000); her sophomore follow-up, M!ssundaztood (2001) which sold 11 million worldwide; the 2.7 million worldwide seller Try This (2003), and I’m Not Dead (2006), which sold over 5 million units globally and spawned two No. 1 hits ”Who Knew” and “U + Ur Hand.”
