With Radio 1 airplay and a club chart position already on the move, new single “Desert Storm” from the fresh-sounding Nayo is tipped to make big waves.

Read the Nayo interview!

“Desert Storm” is an ode to the Sahara about the phenomenon of inescapable attraction. Co-written with KK (Dido, Kylie Minogue), the track features strong influences of jazz, trip hop and bossanova and is set for release in the UK on November 12th 2007.

This release includes a massive gritty electro-house mix from the much in-demand duo Eric Smax and Thomas Gold plus Grammy award winning Paul Harris provides a driving but funky house mix with Julian Peake as SuperBass.

Huge Support for this dance floor stormer comes from likes of BBC Radio 1’s Judge Jules, Oliver Lang, Jim “Shaft” Ryan and many more.

Biography
Nayo (nigh-awh) is no ordinary girl. Born Temitope Odunayo Abidoye in Lagos, Nigeria, Nayo arose from the tragedy of losing her father through the power of music, faith and hope. Amidst the harsh realities of her troubled nation whilst grooving along to Astrud Gilberto, Sade, politically charged lyrics of Nigeria’s own Fela Kuti and Bob Marley, Nayo looked inward and sought to turn around her tragedy into something positive. With this renewed sense of determination, she relocated to the UK shortly after and released her debut single “African Girl”.

Innerpartysystem is one of the newest signings to NYC label Stolen Transmission (The Oohlas, The Horrors, The Photo Atlas, etc).

Stolen Transmission is re-releasing the band’s debut entitled The Download EP, which features two additional previously unreleased tracks, “Don’t Stop” and “Lovers Dancing Remix”.

Listen: “Don’t Stop” MP3

Innerpartysystem has been quickly gaining notoriety, a fact that is evident through the presence of “Heart of Fire” on the MTV VMA’s playlist, and the band has also licensed its music for 2 EA video games. The song “Don’t Stop” will appear in FIFA, and “Heart of Fire” in Burnout.

Innerpartysystem is composed of four guys who were reared in the bleak small towns that surround Reading, Pennsylvania. The weathered houses, rusted factories and sprawling farms make this the landscape of true America. These environments are stark, urban and mechanical, and they are pregnant with dark and anxious hope – sentiments that Patrick Nissley, Innerpartysystem’s main songwriter, carries in his writing.

Nissley captures this blue collar and proletariat aggression of small town America, no doubt a product of his past singing in hardcore punk bands, but he synthesizes this with influences from electronica music. Other band members Kris Barman (keyboards, guitar, programming), Jared Piccone (drums, beats, programming) and Jesse Cronan (keyboards, programming) follow cue and add textures, electronics, keyboard lines and traditional rock instrumentation to each song. It’s this intermingling of styles and instruments that gives Innerpartysystem a distinctive vision, as its songs incorporate throbbing electronic beats that nod towards Autechre or Squarepusher but also the melodic aggression that’s not far from what you’d find in Nine Inch Nails or Nirvana.

However, don’t be mislead. Despite Innerpartysystem’s darker leanings its vision is coiled in music to which you can dance. Let that be rephrased, it does not create music to which you can dance, but to which you must dance. This is what makes Innerpartysystem special. There is a depth to the dance beat. There is a lingering emotion in the lyrics. There is an undeniable energy that will make you move.

Just as any great artist can reveal their minds eye to the listener in a three minute song, Innerpartysystem somehow finds a way to do more – it takes your hand, places something important inside it, walks you through the seedy and desolate alleys of its home-town and then it holds the door for you as you gape the dark and familiar. But don’t be afraid, it’s just entertainment.

Seattle based “party rock super group” United State Of Electronica (or U.S.E.) has been creating quite a buzz around their live shows – and on the dance floor. They’ve toured the US and internationally including shows at clubs and festivals in Tokyo and Osaka, Japan. Now U.S.E. is releasing their latest single, “Open Your Eyes” on Concept Music in the UK. With electronica pulses and disco beats, their infamous vocoder and party attitude, U.S.E. is sure to continue to win over the hearts of pop music fans from around the world.

United State Of Electronica (U.S.E.) interview with BandWeblogs.com
Compiled by Dave Tommo

Dave Tommo: How many people are in your band and who does what?

U.S.E.: There are anywhere from 7 (core musicians) to about 100 people on stage. The other 89 are dancing robots w/ healthy, human hearts. Jon e. “Blades” Rock – drums, Lightweight Luva, rice pilaf Derek “Shadowz” Chan – bass, death stare, vice grip Carly “Skullz” Nicklaus – Diva vocals, Mexi-fresh-seeker-outer Amanda “Eaglez” Khanjian – Diva vocals, tempo adjusta, Make-it-in-the-Big-Apple-well-wisher Peter “Danger Zone” Sali – Guitar, bloody murder screams Jason “Snake” Holstrom – Guitar, fist pumper, gun slinga Noah “Legendz” Weaver – Keys, robots, world hugger.

Are you looking for world domination or are you after something bigger?

If by world domination you mean for everyone to like us and to follow our commands, that would be a bit too much responsibility, because the old adage “absolute power corrupts absolutely” kind of scares us; we would just end up ordering people to get us things like macadamia nut ice cream and back massages w/ cloud blossom and cherub b.o. scented lotion. But from an empyreal point of view, we could just get the world together for one big party and leave our negative beliefs outside of the party grounds and perhaps something that changes the course of history for the better might take place. That may be more appropriate than world dominatrix.

Why would it be good if it was the 70’s again?

People would dance in many different ways, there would only be really huge carphones for the super rich, no Bush regime, cheaper cereal, no SUV’s except cool looking range rovers, vista lite drumsets were easier to find, and Led Zeppelin didn’t wear pleated slacks and flowery silk shirts (until 1979).

Is ABBA the best pop band ever? If not who?

ABBA is one of the best of course, but they have plenty of good company. Jamiroquai, Daft Punk, Barry White, George McRea, Autograph, Snake Lion, Al B. Sure, Steely Dan, Jungle Toa Toa and his Rubber band, Weezer, Refreshments, Garrison Starr, Dolour, Oasis, Hurricane Chris, this list is getting too long.

Where would your ideal gig be?

On top of the World on a large oak platform surrounded by marshmallows and lollipops.

Where would you be without your vocoder?

Somewhere in Lichtenstein opening a restaurant called “Delish Lichtenstish”.

What is the best thing about Seattle?

The landscape. Being able to see snow capped mountains, oceans and forests from one vantage point – then deciding to go record music at these landmarks which are all only an hour away in most any direction.

What was it like playing in Japan?

It was as amazing as you can imagine it to be. The people, food, and architecture are truly awe-inspiring.

Did you go to any good parties there?

Yes, but what goes on in Japan stays in Japan. Though it can be said that what their drug culture lacks, they more than make up for in raw food and rice wine.

How do you record in the studio?

As mentioned earlier, we find a cabin on a mountain lake, a barn, in the woods, or in our guitar players basement studio, or even a pro set up, and knock out the riffs after pressing the red record button.

What would you say is the most important tool in your box?

The hi hat. And the floor thomas.

Where do you like to unwind?

Usually in fields, lakes, and/or helicopters or stress factories.

What movies (if any) inspire U.S.E.?

Weekend at Bernie’s part II and Cool Runnings.

What’s on your rider?

Red Bull, water and towels. If you want to know the miscellaneous you can throw us a party.

Will you be at Glastonbury in 2008?

We would love to be at this historic, magnanimous event. Will you be at our barn raising in 2009?

We would love to.

I’ve been listening to The Ghost Frequency, and I’m really liking their sound. They’re an electro, foot stompin’, head bangin’, cool rocking band from London.

Is there a new trend happening? It seems electro has been creeping it’s way into the airwaves at a higher rate than normal recently and I’m beginning to have a new outlook on electro music.

See if you can get your head around this: The Ghost Frequency have mixed electro with cool synths and bass sounds, clever changes, they’ve added an indie like feel at times with punk, rock and dance beats in such a way, that they’ve certainly peaked my ears and have caught my attention. It’s always great to come across a band that’s difficult to describe.

The Ghost Frequency’s latest single, “Nightmare” is set for release 13th August 2007 on Buddhist Punk/City Rockers. “Nightmare” will be available on 7″ vinyl and digital formats.

Kraak & Smaak is a production team consisting of Wim Plug, Oscar De Jong, Mark Kneppers, a live band with Ro Krom, Rose, Marc Baronner, and DJ DelaSarge.

The Remix Sessions is two discs filled with several different artists all from the same genre. This particular group of performers stands tall amongst the hundreds of artists trying to put a dent into the consciousness of today’s youth. That part of society that gobbles up this music as they do junk food and video games. There is also the 20 to 30 something crowd that will have this spinning because the energy and electricity it emanates is hard to ignore, especially when you need something to pick you up besides that morning latte.

I found disc one very entertaining and at times mesmerizing. Kraak & Smaak are superb mixologists. They remix all the tracks except the last one on disc two titled “No Sun In The Sky”, which is comes courtesy of Noogman. My tastes have a wide range and that is why I found the first disc so inviting. The tracks that really pulled me in and forced me to listen again were “Devil Inside” (Max Sedgley), “Love Is My Religion” (Karl Moesti) and “She’s Gone” (Resin Dogs).

Disc 2 was not as appealing because of the use of repetitive lyrics and sounds. I realize this is part of what makes the music what it is and it can be the main attraction, especially when you hit the dance floor. However, for this listener I prefer the cohesiveness of the songs offered on disc one. There was value in disc two with stars like Jay Kay of Jamiroquai doing his thing on songs such as “Electric Mistress,” and “Seven Days in Sunny June,” which I can appreciate. The words made sense without a doubt but it just did not do it for me as the first disc did. Certainly, many ears out there will love every minute of this two-disc set. I just happen to be a little more selective or finicky than your average listener.

I also have to mention the packaging. I liked the color scheme, images, and the layout. It comes in a gatefold cardboard tri fold case with two plastic trays for each disc. You also get an insert from Quango Music that informs of their artists and new releases. In the end, there was a lot to appreciate here and that puts this ahead of many other CDs out there that are vying for your attention and dollars.

Richard Zeier’s Phenomenation is a cleanly produced, mostly instrumental album that incorporates sounds from rock, classical, new age, and electronica. The album is well composed and Zeier’s guitar work is superb. Each of the thirteen tracks explores emotional locations that combine to create an overall sound that at once transcends time and location yet feels very familiar and accessible.

The album opens with “Rainbow Nebula,” which features an ethereal beginning followed by layers of acoustic and electric guitar under laid by a rhythmic bass line and interspersed with piano. The sound is upbeat yet underscored with darker rhythms and melodies that suggest you are entering a textured and complex musical world. That multi-layered sound appears throughout the album and gives Zeier’s work a cinematic feel: each of these tracks suggests plots and complexities that extend beyond the song itself, and is telling only part of a larger story.

For those of you looking for Zeier’s straight-up, rock the stadium electric guitar, Zeier indulges the need with the bluesy song “The Journey,” the funky “Z-Factor,” and the first half of “Cloud Painter.” However, the album overall does not limit itself to one genre, instead favoring towards tight compositions and covering a variety of styles and moods. “Rite of Passage” and “New World” have an orchestral sound and forgo the guitar in favor of violins, drums, and choral singers to create a sound that is both optimistic and sinister in a way that classical music is able to that rock and roll just can’t do in the same way.

Phenomenation is an excellent musical journey through time and space and a deep showcase of Zeier’s musical ability. This is the best of cinematic rock: whether it’s on your MP3 player or in your favorite films I have no doubt you’ll be hearing a lot of Phenomenation and Richard Zeier.

MusicDish, LLC, an Internet music magazine publisher and artist marketing/development firm, announced the addition of NY-based composer and recording artist Polarity/1 to its MusicDish Network roster. MusicDish will provide full online management support, including brand development and marketing, as well as seeking licensing and business opportunities for his extensive CD catalog, including “Speechless,” “Heavy Meadow” and “Prettier Than You”.

Polarity/1 was recently included in the “MusicDish CD Sampler” which was pitched to labels, publishers, distributors from across the globe at MIDEM 2007, and was also represented at Canadian Music Week, held at the Fairmount Royal York Hotel in Toronto from March 7-10.

The music of Polarity/1 is exactly what the name suggests: conjoined opposites – a mash-up of new: cutting edge electronica/hip hop/nu- jazz and old: roots music of America (blues, funk, country, early jazz), Brazil (samba, pagode, etc.) and West African groove science. “Polar succeeds in his mission of forcing you to pay attention and not lull into the sounds you ‘expect’ to hear,” noted StarPolish.com

After a few years of playing percussion in samba bands at S.O.B.’s and other venues, Polar landed in hip hop which combined his interests in grooves, samples and wordplay into one form. He and rapper D.A.V. became Medicine Crew. In the aftermath of 9/11, Polar was asked to do a remix for Nile Rodgers’ “We Are Family Project” released on a compilation by Tommy Boy Records.

His experience of 9/11 which was perpetrated in his neighborhood, led to a collaboration with multi-platinum Pakistan rock band Junoon resulting in their hit song ‘No More’. Polarity/1’s CD, ‘Speechless’, which was nominated Best Electronica Album by Just Plain Folks, included four instrumentals choreographed by New York’s Battery Dance Company in November 2006.

Currently, Polarity/1 is best known for political songs which are a regular feature of Amy Goodman’s globally syndicated Democracy Now, NPR and many other politics-oriented broadcasts, used in college courses on media and licensed for use in documentaries, including, Danny Schechter’s “WMD: Weapons of Mass Distraction” and “In Debt We Trust: America Before The Bubble Bursts.”

About MusicDish, LLC
MusicDish, LLC (http://www.musicdish.com) has been at the forefront of the digital music sector, publishing some of the industry’s leading music magazine, including MusicDish.com and Mi2N.com.

I have been following this young lady’s career for a few years now and every time I have the opportunity to review one of her new projects, whether its music or film, I enjoy it immensely. The one important factor that is putting this woman in the public eye more every time out is that she continues to develop her craft and become stronger and more effective.

This is a step away from Natalia’s previous jazz style; actually, it is the polar opposite. That is not an easy thing to do, its risqué and it can jeopardize the career of an artist. Fortunately, Natalia is so early in her career that experimenting is all part of the growth and stretching out that people would expect. It works out very well.

Fashion is a pop-dance-electronica masterpiece from a diva that will be international star soon. In fact, I would venture to say that this recording should carve a path for her success now and in the future. The production quality is top-notch on this album and every track offers something different. Natalia’s voice is alluring, mysterious, and sexy, she has it all going on to make each tune a special adventure, on the dance floor, and in your mind’s eye.

The first track “Excuse” has a pounding dark rhythm and beat that strongly suggests that practice makes perfect, and whether you win or lose there are no excuses. So the premise is there is no excuse not to make it if you work hard, well, there is a little more to it than that, you have to listen to all the lyrics. Some screaming guitar lines are in just the right places to make this track as effective as it could possibly be. That track is my pick for a single along with is “Love and Loyalty,” which invites you to have old-fashioned values with a little spice stirred in for excitement. “At The Matinee” would be a perfect track for a suspenseful thriller type if flick. This lady knows how to use her suggestive powers and her voice has that enthralling European accent that is hard to resist. If a polished production with heart palpitating grooves, thumping bass, and a voice behind the sound that will make you melt is what appeals to you then you will love this CD.

Fashion is a powerful musical statement for today’s world and it should put Natalia Nazarova on the musical map rather quickly. Watch this one; she is a star on the rise.
