New Order Live in Glasgow DVD Includes Highlights from 2006 Glasgow Concerts, Including Rare Performances of Joy Division Songs, Plus a Bonus DVD Featuring Unreleased Footage From the Band’s Personal Archives, Spotlighting Shows from 1981-2006.

Available June 24, 2008 From Warner/Rhino.

After sitting out much of the late ’90s, New Order came back in a big way in 2001 with Get Ready. On tour for the band’s 2005 follow-up, Waiting For The Sirens’ Call, the influential synth-pop group made a rare two-night stand at Glasgow’s Carling Academy in October 2006. The celebratory shows were filmed, capturing songs that span the band’s extraordinary career, including several rare performances of Joy Division favorites. Rhino highlights the very best moments from the shows with LIVE IN GLASGOW.

The collection also contains a bonus disc of unreleased footage from the band’s personal archives, including classic live performances filmed between 1981 and 2006. On June 24, this two-disc DVD set will be available from Rhino at all physical outlets, including www.rhino.com, for a suggested list price of $19.99.

Featuring 5.1 Surround Sound, LIVE IN GLASGOW highlights songs from New Order’s entire career, from the band’s first single “Ceremony” and its biggest hits: “Blue Monday,” “Temptation” and “Bizarre Love Triangle,” to a trio of Joy Division classics: “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” “Transmission” and “Shadowplay.”

Interspersed with the live footage are short interviews with the three band members, filmed exclusively for this DVD. This release follows hot on the heels of the acclaimed Joy Division documentary, biopic Control and the recent Best Of Joy Division release from Rhino.

The bonus DVD is a treasure trove for the New Order’s longtime fans, containing tracks selected from the band’s archive by its drummer, Stephen Morris. Favoring shows from the band’s first decade, the collection includes performances from eight different concerts, including six songs recorded at festivals in 1981 – just a year after the untimely death of Joy Division singer, Ian Curtis. Three tracks — “Senses,” “Procession” and “The Him” — are taken from New Order’s first appearance at the Glastonbury Festival.

Four more concerts from the ’80s are represented on the bonus disc, such as “Ultraviolence” from Rome in 1982; “Everything’s Gone Green” from the following year in Cork; seven songs from New Order’s 1985 shows in Rotterdam and Toronto, including “The Village,” “Age of Consent” and “Temptation”; as well as “Dream Attack” and “1963″ from the band’s 1989 stop at Shoreline. The bonus disc concludes with a pair of songs from the band’s stunning headlining appearance at Hyde Park in 2006, including “Run Wild” and Joy Division’s “She’s Lost Control.”

In 1980, New Order rose from the ashes of Joy Division — one of the most important British bands of all time. In the face of adversity, and against all odds, New Order went on to release eight seminal, era-defining albums.

Colin MacIntyre will release his new album ‘The Water’ on January 28th, 2008 on Future Gods Records. The album is the first to be released under his own name having dropped the Mull Historical Society pseudonym following three critically acclaimed sets; 2001’s ‘Loss’, 2003’s ‘Us’ and 2004’s ‘This is Hope’. ‘The Water’ will be preceded by the release of a new single in January.

Produced by Lemon Jelly’s Nick Franglen and recorded over an eighteen-month period that included spells in West Sussex, Glasgow, London and Mull, ‘The Water’ represents MacIntyre’s most remarkable and fully realised album to date. Opening with the dynamic rush of “You’re a Star”, the album includes the seasick shanty of the title track, the satirical and infectious “Famous for Being Famous” and the sinister persona of “Stalker”.

The album’s closing track “Pay Attention To The Human” also features a special guest appearance from Tony Benn who has written and recited a poem specifically for the song. Benn’s book of diary entries, ‘More Time For Politics: Diaries 2001-2007′, includes a mention of his meeting with MacIntyre.

MacIntyre played the majority of the instruments on the album, while notable guest appearances include the Glasgow Philharmonic Male Voice Choir and the Girls Choir of Tobermory High School. The album’s striking artwork and design was created by artist and long-term Colin MacIntyre fan Jo Burton (www.joburton.co.uk).

“It feels a bit to me now like I felt before ‘Loss’ came out, where you’re really proud of something you’ve created, and just need the world to hear it,” commented MacIntyre. “It has been really important to me all along the way with this album that I made no compromises. And I can honestly say that I haven’t. And nor has the producer, Nick Franglen. It was always a great creative join between us.”

MacIntyre will introduce ‘The Water’ with selected gigs in the coming months, including:

February 2nd, 2008 – Glasgow Oran Mor (part of Celtic Connections festival – tickets 12.50 GBP from 0141 353 8000 or Celtic Connections Website.

“The new songs ricocheted between vivacious power pop and ballads of a drama and scope akin to U2 or The Killers” – London Lite

“Tunes, tunes, tunes” – The Scotsman

“One of Scotland’s more distinctive musicians” – Scotland on Sunday

Chris Cornell is best known as the frontman of Seattle grunge legends Soundgarden, who paved the way for bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Alice In Chains with their genre-defining alt-rock sound in the late 80’s. He’s also known as having some of the most powerful lungs and vocal chords in rock, taking 12th place in MTV’s Greatest Voices in Music special.

Soundgarden found success themselves in 1991 with the release of the double-platinum selling ‘Badmotorfinger’ and 1994’s ‘Superunknown’ which went on to sell over 7 million copies worldwide. After the band split in the late ’90s, Chris Cornell hooked up with musicians from Rage Against The Machine to form supergroup Audioslave who went on to massive success throughout their six years together.

After Audioslave disbanded in 2006, Cornell wrote and performed “You Know My Name”, the theme song for the latest James Bond film, Casino Royale before heading to the studio to record his second solo album, ‘Carry On’ which was released on June 5th along with the single, “No Such Thing”. Having sold in excess of 20 million albums and defined the sound of a generation, Chris Cornell is a truly phenomenal performer who should not be missed.

This is your chance to win a pair of tickets to see ex-Audioslave and Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell play live at Carling Academy Glasgow on June 27th 2007 in support of his latest solo album, ‘Carry On’. Carling has got five pairs of tickets up for grabs all of which come with a few free pints of ice cold Carling at the gig for you and your mate. For more info checkthe Carling music competition site.

Members from Scottish band Biffy Clyro have been playing music together since 1995, releasing their debut album, ‘Blackened Sky‘ in 2002. With a steadily growing fan base and after releasing their fourth album ‘Puzzle’ this month, which entered the UK charts at number 2, it looks like their hard work is beginning to pay off in 2007.

Over the weekend Biffy Clyro was one of the lucky few to support Muse at the new Wembley Stadium in London. They’re now set to create quite a storm as they begin to introduce themselves and their music to more people during the busy summer festival season.

Big news for Biffy Clyro fans who may have thought the Muse gig was a big deal – which it was. It appears that was just a warm up. Biffy Clyro have announced that they will be supporting The Who at Marlay Park in Dublin, Ireland on June 29th 2007. Other big gigs for the band include the sold out Glastonbury Festival, Oxegen Festival and T in the Park as well as shows in the US and Canada.

Biffy Clyro band members are: Simon Neil lead vocals, guitar and twin brothers James Johnston on bass, vocals and Ben Johnston – drums, vocals.

Good Charlotte catapulted into the limelight after the release of their second album, ‘The Young And he Hopeless’ which turned multi-platinum on the strength of singles “Anthem”, “Girls & Boys” and “Lifestyles Of The Rich And Famous” which took American radio by storm.

Good Charlotte’s success travelled overseas with world tours and festival appearances taking the band to new audiences all around the globe. Their third album ‘The Chronicles Of Life And Death’ saw the band move into a more synth-heavy sound, with piano-ballads and introspective acoustic songs showing the strains of their newfound fame on tattooed frontmen and brothers Benjii and Joel Madden.

Fast forward two years and the band are back with their fourth album ‘Good Morning Revival’. Laden with addictive riffs and power punk-pop chorus’, ‘Good Morning Revival’ shows a maturity in the songs with lyrics exploring darker subjects with singles “Keep Your Hands Off My Girl” and “The River” paving the way for the band to take their success to a whole new level.

Good Charlotte are heading to the UK for a tour this month and Carling has got 30 tickets up for grabs for their sold out dates at Carling Academy Newcastle, Brixton and Glasgow! See Carling: http://www.carling.com/members/ for more information.

I’ve been listening to the new 1990s single “See You At The Lights” and it’s a cool tune. Tight rhythm guitars, fun lyrics and a catchy melody with Paul Weller-like ba ba ba bas circling around the chorus. The single is scheduled for release on CD and 7″ vinyl April 16, 2007.

The video for “See You At The Lights” was recently made Video of the Week on PlayLouder. It’s a cute animated video that features band members Jackie McKeown, Michael McGaughrin and Jamie McMorrow, but I actually like the song better than the video, which is refreshing. There are a lot of bands out there who’s videos are better than their songs which can be a bit of a hindrance – especially when the song comes on the radio without the video…

1990s are from Glasgow, Scotland and they are in great company. I’m not sure what exactly is going on in the water up there in Glasgow, but there have been some excellent bands that I’ve really been enjoying from the area like Franz Ferdinand (Members from Franz Ferdinand and 1990s were in the now disbanded Glasgow based band The Yummy Fur from the 90’s), The Fratellis, The Dykeenies, The Hussys, Dieselbone (now defunct?) and Latonic. It’s Glasgowmania!

Noting on their Myspace page as playing music “like a blonde gets out of a car”, 1990s are signed to Rough Trade Records in London. Their debut album, Cookies is set for release in May 2007.

Many bands like to think they know how to party. But there aint no party like a Shitdisco party. How many bands do you know who cart generators half a mile down disused railway tunnels, install light systems and play all night to half a city’s ravers? Who else plays lock-ins where you’re actually locked in by the bouncers? When did The Horrors last buy a caravan off eBay and build in a soundsystem because they’d been evicted from their flat for too many public order offences? We rest our case.

Glasgow’s Shitdisco (one of many invented terms coined by the ultra-inventive foursome) shot to fame last year playing and partying their way round the ‘turboraves’ of Europe, stunning even hardy Klaxons fans on the NME Rave tour in a fluoro frenzy that lasted all year and shot adrenalin into the dreariest of the last remaining schmindie fans.

Four post-art school boys raised on a diet of Talking Heads, The Prodigy, Girls Aloud, Donna Summer and anything in between (as long as it’s edging towards 2000 RPM), bassist Joe Reeves, other bassist Joel Stone, um, third bassist (and keyboard wizard) Jan Lee and drummer Darren Cullen came together as Shitdisco in 2003. From a disused tenement block in Glasgow’s now-gentrified West End, they eschewed the traditional gig scene (a wise move as Glasgow’s Sauciehall Street is, in the bands own words, “like Rome at the height of its decadence”) instead hosting massively over-subscribed free-for-all parties.

When they do play ‘traditional’ gigs, it’s rarely without an after-party. Their living room jams with Klaxons and The Rapture and the games of tourbus polo (don’t ask – it earnt drummer Darren a broken arm) became the stuff of legends. But there’s a more profound side to the band writ large all over debut album ‘Kingdom Of Fear’ that could be easily overlooked in the med-fuelled madness.

First single and schizoid disco-punk manifesto ‘Disco Blood‘, for example, with the hazily joyful chorus of “got that disco feeling on my mind, got it in my blood” seems pretty simple. In fact it’s a reference to the feeling AIDS sufferers felt when the disease first emerged. Look closely, and you’ll notice the band’s incessant partying is actually their political statement. Bassist Joe says of juggernaut follow-up track ‘Reactor Party‘: “it’s from the Russian concept of holding parties in nuclear reactors. It’s a vague political aspiration, having a party in a government funded place.”

This defiance is the centrifugal force in everything that Shitdisco do. “Playing party music for us is rooted in political ideas” says Joe, “We’re unable to change anything even by voting, so partying is a political statement. You don’t go to work or do what you’re supposed to be doing. You party for days on end instead.” So, futile trek to the polling station to push forward the next corruptive impotent government, or spend weeks on end off your tits – the choice is yours.

The rest of their steamroller debut is a hailstorm of gabba-punk disco diatribes, peppered with cult literary references. ‘3D Sex Show‘, all falsetto choruses crunching with diseased basslines – a sound that mirrors the characteristic clash of pop melodies and dark lyricism – stares terrified at the European sex industry. Michel Houllebecq’s quasi-sexual literature is a huge influence on Joel. ‘Fear Of The Future‘, meanwhile plays on Philip K Dick’s loathing of our increasingly technocratic society and its increasingly bizarre dictates (lamp-posts with x-ray machines anyone?).Their single biggest literary touchstone, however, is the great doctor of gonzo Hunter S. Thompson, another character living on the edge of sanity who shared their “distrust for this weird plastic society” (’Kingdom Of Fear‘ was the title of Thompson’s final autobiography).

Something to chew (your gums) over during those 48 hour gurning sessions then. And that’s before we even get to the attempted terrorist bombing of the Ministry Of Sound in ‘72 Virgins‘.

This joy/terror dichotomy is played out in the constant struggle in the band’s sound between obtuse post-punk aggression and poptastic euphoria. As Joe puts it: “There’s things pulling our sounds in different directions. We love the studied precision of TV On The Radio. We have a pop approach with a retarded punk aspect too. Shitdisco is the best description of how it sounds, but this album shows there’s less shit now, it’s more like pop disco.”

Next step for the band? Try and guess. Nope, try again. No – we’ll have to tell you straight. Joe says they’re going to start up a girl group, like hi-NRG 80s poppers The Flirts, to “push the dark pop idea we’ve got”. Shitdisco: extreme turboravers, twisted disco-punk geniuses, and soon, pop svengalis the likes of which have never been seen.

Sexy Scottish foursome The Hedrons and buzzing London band Scanners have come to rock the U.S. Hot on the heels of a top indie hit in the U.K., the Glasgow girls in the Hedrons are bringing their femme-fatale roar to Texas and California. Joining them is Scanners, who will be releasing their debut “Violence is Golden” on L.A.-based Dim Mak Records June 6th.

The glammed-up punks from Glascow and the Scanners will hit SXSW and several cities in Southern California in support of their newest material.

In the U.K. throughout 2006, The Hedrons were the focus of many a press feature and gained plenty of airplay, including Radio 1 and XFM. The band was first tipped in NME who said of them “An all-girl four- piece who sound like Patti Smith meets Penetration with a dash of early Blondie and a smidging of The Runaways… you have to hear this band!”

Off the back of this attention and all their touring, The Hedrons were confirmed to perform at several UK summer festivals including: T in the Park and Guilfest. Their latest single, “Heatseeker,” was released in January 2007 and achieved top five Indie Chart success.

Scanners, who have opened from everyone from The Bravery to Electric Six, are sure to wow the crowds in America with their catchy, yet darkly-atmospheric sound. Their lead singer, Sarah Daly, has already been called “a Siouxsie Sioux incarnate for the Blogosphere.”

Exolution Entertainment is proud to present both bands to American audiences this month.
