After a very competitive, but also very collaborative contest, we are excited to announce the winners of the Mariah Carey Remix Contest.

Fans were challenged to create a remix of "I'll Be Lovin' U Long Time" that was to be judged on originality, creativity, and marketability - and man did they ever.

Amongst over 1,200 submissions, The Progressions have won first place - $5,000 - and will be featured on MariahCarey.com, IslandRecords.com, and Mariah's MySpace page.

They are also listed as Mariah's "top friend" on MySpace for a month!

The runner up, Sevan O. receives a Digidesign MBox2.

Check out the site to see all of the other Honorable Mentions:

About Indaba Music

Need a band? Gather 'round the Web...

Indaba Music (www.IndabaMusic.com) is a magical place... a virtual recording studio/café where musicians can gather, collaborate and create music together, regardless of their geographic location. Home to both professional and amateur musicians - including some Grammy award-winning producers - the site offers tools for uploading, editing and mixing tracks, as well as rich media and blogging tools that allow artists to communicate with each other and with their fans. For fans, Indaba offers unprecedented access to artists and their creative process, enabling them to engage with the artist in creative ways.

As Web 2.0 continues to deliver tools and widgets for artists, Indaba Music gives bands and independent musicians a platform to record an album without ever being in the same room with their fellow musicians. Indaba's in-browser cache allows one to mix and edit up to 12 tracks in-browser with no software downloads. Indaba allows artists to create both private and public sessions, and artists can license tracks using a variety of Creative Commons licenses, or reserve all rights. Other tech highlights include an advanced server-side audio processing system and Power artist search engines.

Press:

"Indaba is not unlike walking through a giant rehearsal space, where you can find the best gigs just by strolling past the other rooms and eavesdropping." - Pitchfork

"The long-established rules of music production are being rewritten, according to a now-familiar refrain." - LA Times

"Until recently, there was no easy way for the amateur musician to collaborate cheaply, easily and in an open online environment. However, a new crop of startups (Indaba) are changing that with efforts to capitalize on open social networking, as a way to bring online music collaboration to the masses". - Wired

Third Eye Blind has partnered with Indaba Music to launch an innovative new web program, "Studio Access," in support of the band's upcoming album URSA MAJOR, scheduled for release in early 2009.

Designed to provide Third Eye Blind fans and other musicians with unprecedented access to the band's creative process, "Studio Access" invites fans into to the band's San Francisco studio to witness the recording of URSA MAJOR by logging on to the Studio Access - Indaba Music site.

Through videos, blog posts, and more, 3EB will allow everyone to hear new music and other creative content before it's released, share comments, and even help them put the finishing touches on their new album, starting with the first new track in six years, "Non-Dairy Creamer", the stems of which are being made available before anyone has even heard the band's own final mix!

It's been over five years since Third Eye Blind released their last record, and a lot has changed since then. Especially in the music business, and for Third Eye Blind, the changes are for the better.

3EB had their first taste of fame when the band released their debut CD, 'Third Eye Blind', in 1997. The album yielded five radio hits, including the now classic "Semi-Charmed Life."

The band quickly rose to the heights of rock stardom, touring the world and releasing a string of radio hits over the next seven years. Yet, as they were pushed through the star-making machinery behind their very popular songs, they eventually lost control of their music and their image, until one day in 2004 the band woke up and realized they didn't recognize themselves anymore. It was then that they decided it was time to take a break -- time to take a look inside, re-evaluate who they were as artists, and get back in touch with themselves, their music, and most importantly, their fans.

These days 3EB write, record and tour on their own terms, unencumbered by the traditional rules of the biz that dictate how and when music is released. If the band wants to play a gig in San Diego, they play a gig, and 11,000 fans turn out, proving that, despite a five-year hiatus between albums, 3EB remains connected with its audience. And when Third Eye Blind releases URSA MAJOR in early 2009, it will be on the band's own imprint, distributed through Sony/RED.

Contest to find the best fan mixes of songs from URSA MAJOR:

To celebrate the release of URSA MAJOR, and in recognition of the role their fans play in the artistic equation, Third Eye Blind's "Studio Access" program also involves a unique, unprecendented contest to find the best fan mixes of songs from the album - before they've even heard the band's own mix!

The contest kicked off September 15, 2008. Fans and other musicians will be able to download the audio stems from the first single from URSA MAJOR, "Non-Dairy Creamer." Participants will have until October 6, 2008 to mix the song and post their finished track on the site, after which Indaba members will choose their three favorite mixes (voting runs October 6-16, 2008) as the Top 3 community winners. The band will also select their favorite from among all submissions, and the winning track will be made available on the band's new website (launching soon), Myspace, Facebook and various other sites.

Several other tracks from URSA MAJOR will be made available through "Studio Access" throughout the rest of this year, culminating in a collection of fan-mixed tracks that will serve as a companion piece to URSA MAJOR. Best of all, a grand prize winner will be chosen based on the single best mix of the entire "Studio Access" program, and will be invited to perform live on stage with Third Eye Blind on one of their tour stops in early 2009.

Producers of the Top 3 winning mixes of each song will also win signed copies of URSA MAJOR.
