Multi-platinum selling artist, the Ying Yang Twins, announce a late Summer release for their forthcoming full length entitled ‘Ying Yang for President,’ due out on TVT Records late this summer. The albums’ first single “Drop” leaked on Myspace and has been played an amazing 31 million times. The ATL duo is the #1 Indie artist on Myspace.

“Drop” is produced by Isaac “Ike Dirty” Hayes III (son of R&B legend Isaac Hayes) – the electro club-banger that is setting dance floors on fire.

The video was filmed in their hometown with Kaine and D Roc holding down a huge party atmosphere throughout the clip – an indication of the energy to expect from the Ying Yang camp in 2008. It was directed by up and comer Morocco, who had directed hot clips for Twista and Dude N’ Nem. The video premiered on Yahoo! last Friday.

Watch Drop video

The Atlanta duo burst on to the scene with their sexy and quirky club hit “Whistle While You Twerk” in 2000 followed by their first major radio hit “Say Yi Yi” in 2001. After signing to TVT Records, the group released a string of hits that put the group and Southern Hip-Hop on top of the charts. They included “Wait (The Whisper Song),” “Salt Shaker” and “Get Low” with label mate Lil Jon, “Badd” with Jim Jones, “Ms. New Booty” with Bubba Sparks, “Shake” with Pitbull, and “Dangerous” with Wyclef. Their 2003 album U.S.A (United State Of Atlanta) is a an absolute classic pushing the boundaries of hip-hop to include house, soul, electro-dance and the duo’s trademark Yin(g) and Yang personas.

Having sold nearly 4 Million albums over the span of their short career, the Ying Yang Twins have already achieved international superstardom – more recently by taking part in the first ever major hip-hop event in Tapei in 2007.

‘XFM Debut Sessions’ is a 2CD collection direct from XFM’s archives of session recordings and live performances, including Jack Penate, Jamie T, Kate Nash, Bloc Party and many others.

Focusing on debut albums, this album features some of the hottest UK acts to release their first longplayers in 2007, alongside classic British artists of the last 10 years. Each of the 36 tracks will be a version of a cut from the artist’s debut album recorded exclusively for XFM. These recordings have never been available before and is a must have album for fans of cutting edge new artists and of some of the biggest acts to come out of the UK in the last decade.

The album coincides with the inaugural XFM New Music Awards, which rivals the Mercury Awards for championing great British music.

Here’s a message about the album from our friends at XFM:

“Since XFM first hit the airwaves in 1997, we have lived and breathed new music – breaking bands, putting on gigs, recording some amazing sessions and being at the heart of the alternative music scene. During this time, hundreds of bands have performed for us, and everytime we hit the record button to capture these moments. Now it’s 2008 and we thought it was about time to pull together a compilation of the best tracks that have been recorded exclusively for XFM.

Listening to these recordings has brought back some incredible memories – whether it be an early session from an artist who has gone on to be a big name, or jaw-dropping performances at an intimate money-can’t-buy XFM gig from one of the world’s biggest bands – and we’ve captured as many as we could on this album.

It’s taken us ages to decide the tracklisting as there have been so many stunning songs to choose from but after listening to hundreds of tracks and arguing for ages, we managed to whittle it down…

As 2007 was such a strong year for new music, we decided to devote the first CD to bands that emerged last year, and the second CD contains classic tracks from the last ten years.

On The Class of 2007, you’ll hear exclusive songs from some of2007’s hottest new bands including Jack Penate, Calvin Harris and Jamie T.

This year we also launch the XFM New Music Award which recognises the best UK debut album of 2007. Enjoy tracks from award nominees The Pigeon Detectives, The View, The Enemy, Kate Nash, The Twang, The Maccabees, and The Wombats.”

From the creators of The Indie Bible comes The Indie Venue Bible – a comprehensive directory that features 26,000 live music venues and 2000 booking agents in the US and Canada.

The Indie Venue Bible lists the obvious venues that you can find in any venue directory. What sets it apart from the others is the lesser known venues that you won’t find listed anywhere else.

You’ll find thousands of coffee shops, restaurants, house concerts, theaters, clubs, halls, churches and book stores – any place you can land a gig! There are also thousands of wonderful venues listed in smaller towns that have been ignored by mainstream venue directories. For example, we have listings for over 300 cities and towns in New York State alone.

To make your life easier, we went a step further and painstakingly researched which genres of music each of these venues feature.

The Disclaimer are set to release their first single, “As Long As It Takes” on November 5th 2007 in the UK. “As Long As It Takes” is the North West London indie/pop trio’s debut release off of their self titled first studio album out on November 12th.

After their recent stint of London shows, the timing couldn’t be better for The Disclaimer to be releasing their upcoming single. The Disclaimer’s live show is one of the reasons for their recent jump into popularity – their harmonies are a treat, their live sound is tight and they unfailingly please the crowd with their extraordinary stage performance.

“As Long As It Takes” is a great example of the melodic harmonies that The Disclaimer produce. The single is so ‘now’ sounding with its ska/indie edge, that it could easily sit alongside songs like “Torn On The Platform” by Jack Penate and “Foundations” by Kate Nash in any self respecting pop lover’s playlist.

If 2006 was all about promise for The Twang, 2007 has been all about delivery. Tipped by seemingly everyone at the start of the year, the five lads from Birmingham set about living up to such extravagant praise from the off whilst keeping their feet firmly on the ground.

First stop was the recording of debut album, the gold certified ‘Love It When I Feel Like This’ in Wolverhampton with long term associate Gavin Monaghan eschewing the big studios to keep it real. Next stop was a hectic touring schedule that saw the band’s fanbase explode and further saw the lads go to the people across the UK, a decision that has seen The Twang retain some of the most loyal and committed fans of the moment.

Then the promise was fulfilled, “Wide Awake” and “Either Way” becoming mainstays on radio, NME covers but, more importantly to the band, a Top 3 album position and increasingly big shows remain the high points of the year for The Twang. The summer saw them slay T In The Park, Phil unsure as to whether the huge crowd were all watching his band until the hands went in the air from front to back on “Either Way”, a packed John Peel Tent at Glastonbury despite the lake in the middle of the audience, two packed NME / Radio One tents at Reading and Leeds respectively and continued sales for the debut album that the band had thought about since the day they formed.

As The Twang journey around the UK on their biggest tour yet and another sell out to add to the list the boys have re-imagined one of the stand out tracks from the live set and the album for a single release on November 26th, 2007. Built around a cheeky sample of the bassline for Salt n Pepa’s “Push It” by Jon, “Push The Ghosts” has been twisted a little to emphasise the dance floor nature of groove and come out as a sparkling floor filler for the winter months ahead.

It seems even more appropriate – given that this is a song about their ambitions for the band – that it arrives to cap what has been for all five the best year of their lives. The single comes as a Double A with the band’s praised re-interpretation of Bran Van 3000’s “Drinking In LA” for Radio One’s 40th birthday celebrations, given a Midlands twist and a delicious lop sided groove. The formats also feature an unreleased acoustic version of “Push The Ghosts” and new tracks “First Sight” and “Put Your Faith”.

The Twang band members are: Phil Etheridge – vocals; Saunders – vocals; Stuart Hartland – guitars; Jon Watkin – bass; Matt Clinton – drums.

I’ve been listening to The Ghost Frequency, and I’m really liking their sound. They’re an electro, foot stompin’, head bangin’, cool rocking band from London.

Is there a new trend happening? It seems electro has been creeping it’s way into the airwaves at a higher rate than normal recently and I’m beginning to have a new outlook on electro music.

See if you can get your head around this: The Ghost Frequency have mixed electro with cool synths and bass sounds, clever changes, they’ve added an indie like feel at times with punk, rock and dance beats in such a way, that they’ve certainly peaked my ears and have caught my attention. It’s always great to come across a band that’s difficult to describe.

The Ghost Frequency’s latest single, “Nightmare” is set for release 13th August 2007 on Buddhist Punk/City Rockers. “Nightmare” will be available on 7″ vinyl and digital formats.

Antarctica will be supplying a band for Live Earth after all. The indie rock band Nunatak will be playing July 7th 2007 for the Live Earth concert events set to take place around the world.

The whole Al Gore and the seven continents idea for the Live Earth concerts did concern me for awhile when Antarctica was thrown into the mix. With all of the controversy surrounding Live Earth as it is, the thought of Al Gore flying bands down to Antarctica for a Save the Earth campaign was a bit extreme to say the least. For awhile, things got quiet regarding Antarctica so I began to think that it just wasn’t going to happen there.

Now it’s been confirmed that Nunatak is set to play at the British Antarctic Survey’s (BAS) Rothera Research Station, and that Nunatak is a house band made up of scientists that already reside in Antarctica. Good idea. Their performance will be viewed via a high-speed datalink. I think the only thing that did stop Al Gore from flying more people down there was that he physically can’t make it happen. July is winter in Antarctica, and apparently no planes or boats can get in or out at that time.

Watch a sneak preview video of British Antarctic Survey’s band, Nunatak, rehearsing for Live Earth:

A few years ago I actually met a scientist that used to go to Antarctica to work. He was a nice man named Michael. I haven’t seen him in a long time, but I was always intrigued by the fact that he would go down there.

I think that area of the world is precious and the fewer people that frivolously make the trek the better. On the other hand, that is one of the places in the world that I would love to go…hypocrital? Maybe if I stow away on some ship that’s going there anyway for important reasons, then I won’t be leaving a carbon footprint behind! It’s not easy dampening our natural desires to explore. These are confusing times.

Nunatak band members are:

Matt Balmer – Electronics Engineer – Singer, Guitar
Tris Thorne – Communications Engineer – Fiddle
Ali (Alison) Massey – Marine Biologist – Saxophone
Rob Webster – Meteorologist – Drums
Roger Stilwell – Field General Assistant (polar guide) – Bass

I’m looking forward to hearing them!

The Philadelphia based Junior Music Executive Program will sponsor the upcoming fifth annual Independent Music Conference, taking place this year in Philadelphia over Labor Day weekend.

IMC Founder and Chair, Noel Ramos says, “I’m ecstatic to have this wonderful group participate in our community and vision.”

Jr Music Executive, founded by industry entrepreneurs Aisha Winfield and Shani Gonzales, is an entertainment industry based initiative created to encourage high school and college students to go to school, graduate, and be successful by exposing them to careers in the music business. The company endeavors to provide young people with information, education, industry networking and internship opportunities essential to minimizing the barriers-to-entry and attaining a successful entrance into the business of entertainment. For more information about Jr Music Executive, please visit www.jrmusicexec.com.

When asked about the sponsorship, Aisha Winfield noted, “This conference provides one of a kind opportunities for our students to get involved, network, and learn. The quality of the information provided at the conference and the passion of the IMC organizers was a perfect match for Jr Music Executive. Students often want to know how to make money in the music business, the IMC is offering 3 full days of answers.”

InterMixx.com is the parent company that presents the Independent Music Conference (IMC’07), the online independent music store IndieGate.com and is the publisher of InterMixx independent music magazine, one of the first independent music magazines since 1988. The IMC evolved from a desire to build a trustworthy network for artists within the indie community along with raising awareness, support and value for independent music. The first IMC took place in 2003 and IMC ‘07 will be the sixth conference that InterMixx has presented. Other IMC events are also planned for Dallas, Los Angeles and Charleston, WV.
