The Rolling Stones have unveiled the details of their next album, ‘Shine A Light’, to be released by Universal Music / Polydor. The album is from the Martin Scorsese-directed concert film SHINE A LIGHT and will be released simultaneously with the movie.

From the unmistakeable opening riff of “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” to the classic sounds of “Tumbling Dice”, “Sympathy For The Devil”, “All Down The Line” and “Start Me Up” plus some unusual gems from the Stones catalogue – “You Got The Silver” and “Faraway Eyes” – ‘Shine A Light’ will be released in the UK on 7 April, 2008.

Included are three stunning collaborations – with blues legend Buddy Guy on “Champagne and Reefer”, Jack White from White Stripes on “Loving Cup” while Christina Aguilera duets with Mick Jagger on “Live With Me”.

‘Shine A Light’ will be released on double CD worldwide with a single disc version available in the US.

‘Shine a Light’ is a 22 track Rolling Stones live double album recorded during two memorable nights at New York’s Beacon Theatre in 2006. Produced by The Glimmer Twins and mixed by Bob Clearmountain, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts and Ronnie Wood are supported by their long-standing backline including bassist Darryl Jones, Chuck Leavell keyboards, Bobby Keys on saxophone, backing vocals Lisa Fischer, Blondie Chaplin and Bernard Fowler, and the horn section – Tim Ries, Michael Davies and Kent Smith.

Martin Scorsese’s SHINE A LIGHT film recently kick-started the Berlin Film Festival to widespread critical acclaim and receives its New York premiere on March 30 and European premiere in London on 2 April. UK Cinemagoers will have the chance to experience a Stones concert as never before – as the fifth member of the band, from the front row and from behind the scenes.

No stranger to rock concert films, Scorsese filmed the Stones over a two-day period at the Beacon Theatre in New York City. With performances from Buddy Guy, Jack White of the White Stripes and Christina Aguilera, and integrated with rarely seen archival footage, SHINE A LIGHT is a unique cinema experience.

Twentieth Century Fox will take the ultimate Rolling Stones concert film SHINE A LIGHT from Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese to over 100 cinemas nationwide on 2 April via satellite link for simultaneous premieres alongside the London Leicester Square opening.

Tickets on sale from 7 March, 2008.

The feature film Shine A Light, directed by Martin Scorsese, is on UK national cinema release from 11 April 2008.

‘This is Dynamite’ ‘I’ve always been struck by how the Stones have remained so vital’ ‘The Rolling Stones keep exploding over the decades, defying their age and keeping us satisfied’ – Baz Bamigboye, Daily Mail

‘[It] will blow you away, as it did me’ ‘Shine A Light is a technical tour de force, a visceral hit and a film…One sees Wood, Watts, Jagger…and Richards, for what they are; extraordinary, exotic, extravagant creatures.’ – Bryan Appleyard, Sunday Times Culture

Corey Harris has recently released his latest album, ‘Zion Crossroads’ on Telarc Records. The CD is a “celebration of roots reggae, Ras Tafari, Ethiopia, and the African continent” and has received many accolades for being one of the best reggae albums of the year.

Originally from Denver, Colorado, Corey Harris released his debut solo acoustic album, ‘Between Midnight and Day’ in 1995 on Alligator Records. His debut was a delta blues style which was well received and soon after, he had an opening slot on tour with Natalie Merchant.

Since then Corey has continued to explore his musical roots, releasing more albums which included a move to Rounder Records for his 2002 release, ‘Downhome Sophisticate’, an album that “added layers of African and Latin music” – and he’s played genres ranging from funk to R&B, roots, reggae and hip-hop. Harris has toured in Guinea and Mali, West Africa, South America, the Caribbean, Europe, Japan, New Zealand and Australia.

In 2003, Corey Harris appeared in the Martin Scorsese documentary, Feel Like Going Home, an installment in the blues series that aired on PBS. In the film, Harris explores African-American blues on a journey that begins in the Mississippi delta and eventually takes him to Mali, where he discovers still more layers of African music to add to his repertoire.

Now with his 2007 release, ‘Zion Crossroads’, Corey has found his niche once again with an outstanding reggae release and is currently on tour in the US including upcoming shows in France and Australia. With his busy schedule, he’s taken the time out to answer some questions for Band Weblogs.

Corey Harris: Thank you. I don’t think of crossing over…Reggae and Blues are the same root, different branches. What made me cross over to Reggae? Living and travelling in Africa, knowing Selassie, Garvey, The Writings of Walter Rodney.

I say. After hearing about The Rolling Stones‘ upcoming European tour dates, I thought I’d log onto their website to read more about the tour. What I didn’t expect was to see that not only was an official announcement planned yesterday, but there was an exclusive live tour announcement interview with Mick Jagger (or should that be Sir Mick?). Luckily the webcast has been archived on The Rolling Stones Website and I’m glad that I found it.

What I really liked about the interview was the question answer format. Fans from around Europe had sent in questions to Mick Jagger that were primarily focused on past shows and the Rolling Stones upcoming 2007 European “A Bigger Bang” tour. There was also talk about their headlining slot at the Isle of Wight Festival this June. Their appearance there will be the first UK festival for the Stones since 1976 at Knebworth in Hertfordshire, England.

A fan brought up the fact that the last time The Rolling Stones played on the Isle of Wight was at the Ryde Pavillion in 1964. Mick talked about why the Stones didn’t play the original Isle of Wight Festival dates with artists like Jimi Hendrix and The Who.

It was interesting that Mick Jagger would bring up a certain British female singer not once, not twice but three times during the interview. Who could that be you might wonder? Amy Winehouse. When asked by the host of the interview if there is anyone that he is particularly looking forward to seeing at the Isle of Wight Festival, Mick mentioned Snow Patrol, Amy Winehouse, Muse, Paolo Nutini (who they’ve played shows with) and Fratellis. I’d be pretty happy actually, to be mentioned by Mick Jagger. He also mentioned her name again as an artist he would want to see at the Isle of Wight festival and when asked what songs he’s downloading at the moment, he answered Bloque (sp?), City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Larry Williams and once again, Amy Winehouse. What’s up with that?!

Other projects for Mick Jagger include movie productions and an upcoming Martin Scorsese concert film in the works. He’ll also be writing songs while on holiday with family in the Caribbean. Now that sounds like fun. I’ve never written songs in the Caribbean and the time that I was in Jamaica I was too busy looking around to even think about focusing on anything else. But then, I suppose he’s been going there for awhile now and is used to it.

So if you are able to make it to one of The Rolling Stones “A Bigger Bang” shows I would be interested to hear how it goes. I’ve never been fortunate enough to see them play live.
