Shwayze is set to release their sophomore album, ‘Let It Beat’ on November 3rd, 2009, just two days before the tour begins.

Shwayze’s first album, the self-titled Shwayze, rocketed the duo into world wide success. A string of multiple hits (“Buzzin”, “Corona and Lime”) fueled by millions of internet plays carried them to top ten album sales, landed them a coveted slot on the Vans Warped Tour, and turned them into reality television stars on MTV.

A perfect slice of pure pop, with its catchy, punchy sing-along chorus – giving a 60s meets 80s vibe.

The track is destined to be an impressive hit for the summer having already been picked up in the US by popular MTV shows such as Paris Hilton’s My New BFF, Keeping Up with the Kardashians and The Real World to name a few.

Lead singer and mastermind behind Temposhark, Robert Diament humorously dedicates the song to himself, describing writing the song: “When you’re in a creative process it can be all-consuming and sometimes that can upset people around you, especially the ones closest to you. The song is written from the other person’s perspective and summarizes exactly what you want to say to people who only talk about themselves, but don’t have the guts to.”

The single is accompanied by a music video filmed at London’s Bethnel Green Working Men’s Club following Diament turning down potential dates at a Speed Dating event.

The B-side features a remix of another new track “Threads” reworked by Paris-based producer Majiker, best know for his work with French singer Camille. Majiker uses his own body via body percussion, human beatbox and his singing voice to produce sounds, the only other instrument used on the remix was generated by a piano and Diament’s vocals.

This single is a clear sign of the new direction Temposhark are taking: a more upbeat, commercial and evolved sound. Taken from Temposhark’s forthcoming second album, it sees Diament collaborating with producer Sean McGhee, who previously worked with other acts such as Robyn, Sugababes and Britney Spears.

Diament began Temposhark inspired by his love of electronic sounds and pop music growing up, and his fascination with London’s electro club scene. With one critically acclaimed album under their belt, ‘The Invisible Line’ (2008), the band have managed to gain a loyal fan base in the US particularly, with regular play on influential LA stations like KCRW.

Furthermore they’ve collaborated with the likes of Youth, Metronomy, Imogen Heap and Guy Sigsworth and have played extensive tours throughout the UK and Europe as well as the USA and Canada, including a sold out appearance at SXSW music festival.

The All-American Rejects got busy in New York City this week starting off with a special performance of their hit single “Gives You Hell.”

They took the stage with house band Wale at MTV’s VMAs show where front man Tyson Ritter debuted a new glittery look.

After rocking the proverbial house, Ritter caught up with MTV news and confirmed the long standing rumor that he will in fact be teaming up with pop powerhouse Rihanna for a yet to be recorded track.

With AAR’s stock rising by the day, it only made sense for the quartet to cap their week by ringing the opening bell for the New York Stock Exchange.

Alice In Chains hit No. 1 on Billboard Rock Songs Chart with lead single “Check My Brain”

Band announces European tour dates

Hailed by Spin as “one of the catchiest songs of Alice In Chains‘ history,” lead single “Check My Brain” has blanketed rock and alternative radio and rocketed straight to No. 1 on Billboard’s Rock Songs Chart and No. 1 on the R&R Rock Chart.

The riff-driven track appears on the band’s highly anticipated new album, ‘Black Gives Way To Blue’ (Virgin/EMI), available September 29, 2009.

Playboy gave the disc four stars, calling it “Alice In Chains’ Back In Black,” Revolver praised the record for its “dense tapestry of heavy guitars and soaring melodies” and Reuters wrote “the heavy guitars, submerged vocals and thunderous rhythm section assures fans that the band has lost none of its menace.”

The “Check My Brain” video premiered on MTV2’s “Unleashed,” airing every hour on the hour. It also debuted on MTVu, as well as on MTVMusic.com, MTV2.com and MTVu.com.

The clip was directed by Alex Courtes, whose credits include U2’s “Vertigo,” Wolfmother’s “Woman” and the White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army.”

In an effort to bring back some programming power to the fans, MTV and Garnier Fructis have teamed up to encourage viewers to cast their votes for the next breakout artist on MTV.

J*DaVeY, amongst four other buzz bands, have been hand-selected to participate in the “I Want My Music On MTV” contest.

The winner of this innovative promotion will perform at the 2009 MTV Woodie Awards in November and have their music added to the music network’s video rotation. Each participating voter stands the chance of winning an all-inclusive, VIP trip for two to New York City where they will attend the awards and rub shoulders along the winners of the competition.

By definition, a “breakthrough sound” must ascend the confines of cliché labels and genres. Many fans in the US will already be familiar with Cisco Adler from his recent stint on MTV reality show “Buzzin’” – about the misadventures of Shwayze and Cisco, with cameras following the unlikely pair – Shwayze, the self-described “only black kid in Malibu” and singer/producer and sometimes tabloid “bad boy” Cisco, on their path to stardom.

Although known for his partying ways and celebrity girlfriends, Cisco is also a hardworker and talented musician, and it shows in his music. I’ve been listening to their single, “Get U Home” – it’s a great track, worthy of being cranked up to the max!

Exclusive interview with Cisco Adler:

Jenny May: What kind of things would have to be happening at a party that would make you drop everything to be there?

Cisco Adler: The Rolling Stones playing live and a slew of naked models…other than that, a party is just a party.

When recording, do you always mix your own tracks or do you work with an engineer? Which do you prefer and why?

I work the board when we record. As far as mixing goes, it depends what the song calls for. On this record I mixed half and my buddy Dave Pensado mixed the rest…the song determines all of this. I like mixing but for some tunes I want to have someone with a different ear and background mixing.

What was the last movie that you watched?

Lars and the Real Girl.

Did you like it?

It was Amazing!

If given the opportunity to write a movie script, what would be your ideal genre?

Comedy…and best believe I have a few already written.

Where is one of your favorite places to go to just chill out?

I’m not so good at that. I hate being away from my studio. So I guess I’d say my studio…

Who would be a dream guest to feature on one of your tracks (still alive, that you haven’t had yet)?

If you have friends over with mixed musical tastes, what would be the first album that you would grab to play for your guests (other than yours)?

F*** em…they are at my house and I’m the DJ. I’d play what I want and hopefully they can dig. Bob Dylan is always good with whatever ur drinkin’…

What is your daily routine when on tour – from morning to night?

Wake up, take a shot, get on stage, take a few more shots, go to sleep…

Can you break down the writing and production process of “Get U Home”?

Well I wanted to do an uptempo tune with a big pop rock chorus. It started with a sample, but after I threw on all the guitar and drums and synths I took out the sample and liked it better. I spent a few days perfecting the chorus lyric melody and after that Shwayze came in and we hammered out the verses. It’s one of those catchy melodies that sticks in ur brain. It’s sort of an anti-pop song and it’s dirty and clever but still has a huge melody and a pop progression.

Who wrote the lyrics, music, mixed, musicians involved etc.

I wrote the music and the chorus lyrics and made the track. It took a few days to get the chorus vocals right. It’s a catchy pop melody and sometimes those are the hardest to get perfect, but when u do they are magical. I dropped a couple guitar tracks and then had a friend of mine named Beardo (check out his music!) come in and do some more to really fill the chorus up. Then Shwayze and I wrote the verse lyrics together and he got in the booth and layed em down.

Was there anyone in particular that inspired the story behind “Get U Home”?

A gentleman never tells…But it’s a play on words. It’s not that I can’t wait til we get home. It’s actually I cannot wait and we need to go into the bathroom and make love now!

MTV announced the nominees for this year’s Video Music Awards and Anjulie’s “Boom” received a nomination for “Breakthrough Video”!

The nomination comes at a perfect time since Anjulie’s self-titled debut album hits stores via Hear Music.

Jive Recording artists Cage the Elephant announced that they will be joining Silversun Pickups for a string of North American dates this summer.

The band has also secured key festival spots at All Points West (8/1), Lollapalooza (8/9) and Outside Lands Music Festival (8/30).

Cage The Elephant’s current single “Ain’t No Rest For The Wicked” continues to grow at radio where it is #3* on the Alternative Rock charts.

In addition to being featured as an MTV Buzzworthy artist, the Kentucky rockers’ video for their single has been on rotation at MTV, MTV2 Subterranean, MTVu, and Fuse.

For Crosby Loggins, what’s past is prologue. With ‘Time To Move’, his debut Jive Records release due out on July 14, 2009, Loggins draws on a unique personal and musical history to forge a statement that places his intimate voice front and center.

After several years of leading the jazzier, funk-inflected Crosby Loggins and the Light, the songwriter opted for tighter editing and sharper focus on ‘Time To Move’. Its ten songs exude the warmth of mid-70s singer-songwriter LPs, retaining a comfortable, well-worn feel without seeming aggressively retro.

Growing up around musicians gave Loggins a sense of personal perspective while shaping his tastes. The son of chart-topping artist Kenny Loggins, Crosby enjoyed early exposure to his father’s peers and friends, including Jackson Browne and Michael McDonald, at the family home in Santa Barbara, CA.

“There were no direct mentorships,” he says, “but I learned as much from their personalities as I did from their talents. I remember Michael McDonald being really grounded, and Jackson Browne had a soul-searching calm.”

And although the 28-year-old Loggins reveals plenty of modern tastes, ranging from the grunge-era rock of his formative years to present-day indie faves Ratatat and Wilco, ‘Time To Move’ was designed with a nod to an earlier era.

“It was a very conscious choice to work with a sonic palette of drums, bass, guitars and vintage keyboards and tones,” says Loggins. “I’ve always been more interested in old records, and always more attracted to organic sounds.”

To that end, Loggins chose to work with producer John Alagia (Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer) in seeking a more handmade sound that still avoided the potential trap of throwback purism. With a backing band that included Loggins’ longtime friend and collaborator, guitarist Jesse Siebenberg, veteran drummer Matt Chamberlain, and session wunderkinds bassist Sean Hurley and keyboardist Zach Gray, Loggins and Alagia sought something comparable to an updated version of The Section, which backed Seventies stars like Browne and James Taylor.

Their basic tracks, cut in less than three days’ time, allowed plenty of room for Loggins’ sweeping, dulcet vocal melodies that are a hallmark of ‘Time To Move’. “We wanted to jump back and focus on the singer and the song, and make something that would be more reproducible on an acoustic guitar without an ensemble,” Loggins says.

In doing so, ‘Time To Move’ emphasizes lyrical stories steeped in autobiography. “I’ve lived every moment on this record, in some way or other,” says Loggins, “although I still know how to have fun with a song and write through characters.” The songs run the gamut from complicated relationships (“Seriously”) to optimistic ones (“Only One”), from frustration and self-doubt (“Good Enough”) to carefree cruising down a desert highway (“Radio Heart”).

“I’ve been trying to write more lighthearted songs, but I often still include a lot of dark things within them.” Loggins says. “I like putting dark verses in uplifting songs, but that can sometimes confuse the listener.” Fellow songwriter Brett Dennen served as his sounding board, editor and co-writer as ‘Time To Move’ came together. “He really helped me to remember the power of a concise song that stays on topic,” says Loggins.

Though focused and succinct, the album derives much of its character from a variety of flourishes, including a guitar solo on the title track from John Mayer. “He popped in from a neighboring studio as we were working on the solo. We said, ‘Why don’t you take a pass at this one?’ He ended up taking five or six.” Elsewhere, Loggins’ longtime bandmate Dennis Hamm delivers a barrelhouse piano solo on “You Want To Be With Me,” while “Radio Heart” incorporates a Farfisa organ part reminiscent of Nick Lowe’s “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love & Understanding?”

The album even includes an extended outro jam on the high-stepping “Heaven Help Me,” which Loggins says was meant to reflect the looser vibe of his earlier work: “It’s more like how we used to make music.” Poised atop a groove built around a simple acoustic guitar lick, the lyric is among the album’s most troubled, as its narrator faces evaporating self-confidence. “I think my generation has grown up more conscious and aware of ourselves, but we’re still human,” he explains. “We have so much more information available to us, but we can still blow it.”

Indeed, Loggins hasn’t always been comfortable with certain aspects of having a famous name. His participation in the MTV reality show Rock the Cradle, which pitted offspring of musicians against one another, was admittedly reluctant, although he wound up winning the contest. The lyrics of “Good Enough” discuss the challenges of living up to high standards: “Can’t fill the shoes that somebody else wore/They’ll never fit, they don’t belong to me.”

As surely as Loggins’ songs draw strength from their structural simplicity, their open sonic spaces allow his emotionally honest lyrics to resonate within them. Through its tempestuous and tender moments, Time To Move showcases a complex artist whose pared-down songs reveal a voice that’s all his own.
