CORNBURY FESTIVAL – THIS WEEKEND – JULY 11th & 12th

The UK’s most beautiful boutique festival continues its eclectic musical tradition as it announces the line up for its 6th glorious year.

With a fusion of indie pop Brit nominees Scouting for Girls and ‘Belle de Jour’ Imelda May, the stage is shared with inimitable girl group Sugababes and Chrissie Hynde’s legendery rock outfit The Pretenders.

The festival embraces the ‘something for everyone’ approach. From alt rockers The Magic Numbers and rising stars Teddy Thompson and Archangel, to the retro classic chic of Sharleen Spiteri, perfect pop from The Lightning Seeds and Fleetwood Mac founder, Peter Green, appearing in the UK for the 1st time in over four years, Cornbury attracts festival goers from all age ranges and with all manner of tastes.

Cornbury is about its beautiful Cotswold location, fantastic food, hot air balloons, the madness of the many morris dance pageant, children’s theatre workshops, great festival shops and a huge fairground all held together by a carefully selected spectrum of top music talent. Typically English – eccentric, eclectic and inclusive – a farmers’ market with a dancefloor, a county fayre with a rock ‘n’ roll twist indeed!

Peter Green The Anthology is an exciting 4CD retrospective – set for UK release 27 October, 2008 – telling the story of a British guitar legend and blues institution. The set contains essential Peter Green music drawn from all stages of his career.

From his first tentative recordings with the likes of Peter Bardens and John Mayall, it moves through the genesis of Fleetwood Mac and the band’s many classic blues recordings including “Ramblin’ Pony” and “Black Magic Woman”.

Fleetwood Mac’s subsequent blues and rock fusion chart hits – titles like the utterly unique “Albatross”, “Oh Well” and the ever haunting “Man Of The World” – are all included, as is the best of his later solo work and Splinter Group recordings.

Through many personal transformations and struggles, Peter Green has lived the blues he so obviously fell in love with at a young age. The body of his work so far is one of the most impressive legacies in the genre and this is his first complete career overview.

It’s also the first time that Peter Green himself has had an active involvement in such a project, working closely with Salvo and compiler John Crosby.

Crosby’s extensive liner notes embody an essay on the social and cultural context of the times in which Peter’s music was created, the Sixties blues boom, the rock scene of the late Sixties and early Seventies and Peter’s acclaimed return after several years of seclusion; a biographical feature, a track-by-track commentary and a UK discography.

Quite simply, this is the ultimate Peter Green collection – a special release befitting a special musician and songwriter who is rightly one of the most revered blues guitarists of all time.
