Joy, Phish’s first studio album in five years, set for September 8, 2009 release

Pre-Order underway for CD, Vinyl and Deluxe Joy Box Editions

Phish follows Sold-Out Summer Tour with Festival 8, to be held October 30th, 31st and November 1st at The Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA

‘Joy’, Phish’s first studio album in five years, will be released on September 8th.

‘Joy’ will be available in three configurations: CD, vinyl (two 180 gram discs in a striking double gatefold sleeve) and as part of the Joy Box, a limited edition deluxe box set. In addition to the new CD, the Joy Box will contain 10 individual drawers, which hold limited edition posters designed for each of the album’s 10 songs, plus Party Time, a second complete album, a hardbound book with lyrics, artwork and more and a DVD capturing live performances from the first half of Phish’s sold-out summer 2009 tour.

The DVD features the band performing each song from ‘Joy’, with footage from the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, the tour’s opening dates at Fenway Park in Boston and many other stops. The Joy Box will ship in early October 2009.

Fans can now pre-order any version of Joy at the band’s online store, Phish Dry Goods (http://drygoods.phish.com/). Those who pre-order the vinyl or the Joy Box will receive a free MP3 download of Joy on September 8th. And fans pre-ordering any configuration at Phish Dry Goods will automatically be entered to win a travel package for two (including air fare, hotel and tickets) to Phish Festival 8, which will take place October 30th, 31st and November 1st at The Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA.

Phish will play eight sets – including a Halloween performance wherein the band dons a “musical costume,” performing an album by another band – during the three-day celebration, which, as its name implies, is the band’s eighth festival. As with previous Phish festivals, fans will enjoy on-site camping, numerous attractions and art installations. For ticket information and additional details about Festival 8, visit Festival 8 Official Website.

Working with Steve Lillywhite, who produced Phish’s 1996 ‘Billy Breathes’ and albums by U2, Dave Matthews Band and the Rolling Stones, the band recorded ‘Joy’ in April and May of 2009 at Chung King Studio in New York City.

A loose yet focused vibe is apparent from the first notes of the album’s opening track and lead single, “Backwards Down The Number Line,” which was cut live in the studio – solos and all – and left entirely intact. In contrast, the epic 13-minute, 29-second “Time Turns Elastic” was recorded section-by-section, in more than 260 takes.

Throughout, Phish strikes a remarkable balance, keeping a strong sense of songwriting while allowing its trademark improvisations room to stretch out. In fact, ‘Joy’ includes more improvisations than most of the band’s previous albums. For that reason, says bassist Mike Gordon, “in some ways, I think this one is more for our fans than any of our other albums.”

‘Joy’ marks the first-ever non-archival release on JEMP Records, an independent record label created in 2005 by the members of Phish. The label’s initial function was to release live concerts in CD, DVD and digital formats from the band’s extensive archives, which are located in Burlington, VT.

In a recent interview with Billboard for the cover story of “The Indie Issue,” keyboardist Page McConnell noted: “We’re still outside the mainstream of the business and happy to be existing there.” You can check out the band’s Q&A’s at: Phish – Billboard

Phish – comprising lead guitarist/vocalist Trey Anastasio, drummer Jon Fishman, bassist Mike Gordon and keyboardist Page McConnell – has released 10 studio albums as well as a series of 44 complete live concert CDs. Its series of 91 full concert downloads is currently available on livephish.com. The band will wrap up its summer tour on August 16th in Saratoga Springs, NY.

For the first time ever, Phish will combine two of its most cherished traditions – the Phish festival and the band’s Halloween event – in a massive three-day celebration.

Christened Festival 8, it will take place October 30th, 31st and November 1st at The Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA. Festival 8 marks several additional firsts: it is Phish’s first three-day festival, its first held on the West Coast and it will be the first time that a single band has played consecutive dates at the venue.

Tickets, priced at $199.00 plus applicable service charges for the three-day event, will go on sale next Monday, July 27th, at 10 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time at http://places.musictoday.com/festival8

Daily parking is free, but additional fees of $15 per car and $125 per RV will be charged for those wishing to camp onsite. In addition to eight sets from Phish over the course of the event, fans will enjoy numerous attractions and art installations. Additional details are available at http://www.phish.com/festival8.

“We are pleased to support this event,” said Glenn Southard, Indio City Manager. “It will bring thousands of visitors to the City of Indio and to the Coachella Valley and will provide a much-needed boost to our local economy. We look forward to a great event!”

Festival 8 is, as its name suggests, Phish’s eighth festival. Its first, The Clifford Ball, was held at a decommissioned Air Force base in Plattsburgh, NY in August of 1996 and was documented in a seven-DVD box set released earlier this year. Calling it an “all-you-can-eat smorgasbord of Phish,” Rolling Stone noted: “it was definitely groundbreaking there was a real story; that in an age of corporate sponsorship, this completely home-grown thing happened that was different from any other concert.”

Two years and two festivals later, Rolling Stone called 1998’s Lemonwheel “the summer’s most ambitious concert,” adding “given their sense of community, their ambition and their challenging, generous performance, Phish have become the most important band of the nineties.” Big Cypress, held in the final hours of 1999, was the largest paid concert in the world on the eve of the millennium, drawing 80,000 Phish fans to the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation in the Florida Everglades. Festival 8 will be the band’s first festival since Coventry, which came at the conclusion of its 2004 summer tour.

The group is also renowned for its Halloween performances, wherein its members don a musical costume, covering an album by another band. It began on Halloween 1994 with Phish performing The Beatles‘ self-titled album (known as ‘The White Album’). In subsequent years, they covered The Who’s Quadrophenia, Talking Heads’ Remain in Light and the Velvet Underground’s Loaded. For the first time since 1998, Phish will resume this tradition: Over the course of the three days of Festival 8, the band will perform eight sets including the Halloween album.

Phish – comprising lead guitarist/vocalist Trey Anastasio, drummer Jon Fishman, bassist Mike Gordon and keyboardist Page McConnell – has released 11 studio albums, six concert videos and a series of 44 complete live concert CDs, including 13 on JEMP Records. Its series of full concert downloads on livephish.com currently totals 91.

Prior to launching its sold-out 2009 summer tour, the band recorded a new studio album with producer Steve Lillywhite (U2, Rolling Stones, Dave Matthews Band). Details regarding the album will follow shortly.

NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC TO GIVE NEW YORK PREMIERE OF TIME TURNS ELASTIC WITH TREY ANASTASIO AT CARNEGIE HALL, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2009, AT 8:00 P.M.

An Evening With Trey Anastasio and the New York Philharmonic,
A Benefit for the Kristine Anastasio Manning Memorial Fund and the New York Philharmonic, Will Also Include Orchestrations of Classic Anastasio Songs
Featuring Trey Anastasio, Co-Founder, Guitarist, and Lead Singer of Phish

The New York Philharmonic will give the New York premiere of Time Turns Elastic – a work for vocals, electric guitar, and orchestra composed by Trey Anastasio, lead singer and guitarist of Phish, and his longtime collaborator, Don Hart – at Carnegie Hall, Saturday, September 12, 2009, at 8:00 p.m.

An Evening with Trey Anastasio and the New York Philharmonic, conducted by Asher Fisch – a benefit for the Kristine Anastasio Manning Memorial Fund and the New York Philharmonic – will also include orchestrations of classic Anastasio songs, featuring Mr. Anastasio, who was named one of Rolling Stone’s “Greatest Guitarists of All Time,” in his Philharmonic debut. The concert will be presented by Princeton Entertainment and the New York Philharmonic.

Time Turns Elastic blends classical music with rock-blues guitar.

“Initially,” says Mr. Anastasio, “I thought it would be a Phish song, but after I sent a demo of it to Don, it just grew organically into an orchestral piece. I grew up loving Ravel and Eric Clapton equally,” Mr. Anastasio continues, “so I kept saying to Don, ‘why can’t we have a piece of music that’s half Ravel and half Cream’s Disraeli Gears?’”

The work received its world premiere in September 2008 with Orchestra Nashville, conducted by Paul Gambill, at the Ryman Auditorium. It was recently performed with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Marin Alsop. In May 2009 it was released on Rubber Jungle Records, Mr. Anastasio’s independent label.

The Kristine Anastasio Manning Memorial Fund was created by the Anastasio and Manning families to pay tribute to Trey Anastasio’s sister, who passed away earlier this year. The fund was set up to benefit a diverse selection of causes that Kristy supported, which currently include the Seven Below Arts Initiative in Burlington, Vermont; the Carolina Friends School/Afghan Sister School Project in Durham, North Carolina; and the Neuroendocrine Tumor Clinic at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute in Tampa, Florida.

Artists
Over the past 25 years, Trey Anastasio has established himself as a prolific composer, masterful guitarist, and compelling performer. He is a founding member of the Grammy- nominated, genre-melding rock band Phish, which has produced 64 albums and DVDs with combined sales of over seven million units. Renowned for its live performances, Phish was included on the Top Ten Grossing Concert Tours in North America from 1995 to 2000 and from 2002 to 2004, and its series of self-produced festivals is widely regarded as a precursor to the current rock festival boom.

Drawing inspiration from experimental jazz, pop, reggae, metal, classical, and barbershop music, Mr. Anastasio has produced eight solo albums. His June 2004 performance with the Nashville Chamber Orchestra at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival provided the crowd of 80,000 rock fans with an introduction to “new classical” music. Mr. Anastasio has also teamed with the Vermont Youth Orchestra for benefit performances at Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Music Hall in Troy, New York, and the Flynn Theatre in Burlington, Vermont.

Israeli conductor Asher Fisch has conducted at the world’s great opera houses, and is currently principal guest conductor of the Seattle Opera. A former music director of both the Vienna Volksoper and the New Israeli Opera, he makes frequent guest appearances throughout Europe and the U.S. During the 2009-10 season he will conduct a new production of Wagner’s Tristan und Isolde for the Seattle Opera, and will make his debut with the Berlin Philharmonic in a program featuring Daniel Barenboim as piano soloist. He also will lead concerts with the Kansas City Symphony, and in Naples, Genoa, and Bologna, Italy.

Mr. Fisch has conducted the orchestras of Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Dallas, Seattle, Atlanta, Houston, St. Louis, Toronto, Montreal, Minnesota, and Washington, D.C. In Europe, he appears regularly with the Munich Philharmonic, Leipzig’s Gewandhaus Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, and the Staatskapelle Dresden, which he led on an acclaimed tour of Italy in 2002. In Asia, he has conducted the NHK Orchestra of Tokyo. Mr. Fisch began his conducting career as Daniel Barenboim’s assistant and Kapellmeister at the Berlin Staatsoper, and has been championed by Mr. Barenboim ever since. He is also an accomplished pianist, and has directed Mozart piano concertos and Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue from the keyboard.

He continues to perform in chamber concerts and vocal recitals. Mr. Fisch last appeared with the New York Philharmonic in September 2006 for the concerts with Andrea Bocelli, and will lead the Orchestra’s upcoming performances with Mr. Bocelli at Carnegie Hall on September 8-9 and 11, 2009.

Phish has done it again. The band that loves to keep everybody on the edge of their seats has surprised fans with its latest news.

Phish posted a video of the band recording a brand new track, “Time Turns Elastic,” at its website, http://www.phish.com.

The video was accompanied by two exciting announcements: “Time Turns Elastic” is available NOW, exclusively on the iTunes Store (www.itunes.com), and the album that they began recording with producer Steve Lillywhite in March 2009 is already complete and scheduled for release on July 28, 2009.

The video – which comes just days before the launch of Phish’s sold-out North American summer tour – is the fifth in a series of innovative event announcements from the band. Phish’s first shows in over four years were announced with a time-lapse video of an artist creating a painting that included the band’s March 2009 dates at Virginia’s Hampton Coliseum. Skywriting, Google Earth-style graphics and the Fenway Park organ were enlisted for announcements regarding the band’s 2009 summer tour, generating tremendous chatter amongst Phish fans.

Those who’ve been watching closely knew something was up when, just last Thursday, guitarist/vocalist Trey Anastasio performed a classical version of “Time Turns Elastic” with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. While he didn’t say a word about the upcoming announcements, the performance served as a hint of what was to come.

Recalling the evolution of “Time Turns Elastic,” Anastasio says: “I began writing this little tune for Phish – and it just kept growing and growing.”

Featuring him alone on acoustic guitar and vocals, the original demo of the song is a tour de force, contrasting life’s fragile beauty with nature’s proclivity for renewal. While it clearly had a spot in the Phish canon, the song also emerged as an orchestral work, for Anastasio had long been intrigued by the notion of a piece that would blend the intrinsic elegance of classical music with searing blues-rock guitar. Anastasio’s original acoustic demo and his orchestral version with The Northwest Sinfonia, conducted by David Sabee will be released on June 9th by Rubber Jungle Records.

When Phish began recording its new album with producer Lillywhite (U2, Rolling Stones, Dave Matthews Band), the band brought “Time Turns Elastic” full circle. Using Anastasio’s initial acoustic demo as a blueprint, they transformed it into an explosive, epic 13-minute, 29-second rock song.

The track will be sold for the price of a standard single and will also be included on Phish’s forthcoming album, which will be released by the band’s own JEMP Records. Produced in New York City, the as-yet-untitled record is the band’s first studio album in five years and its second with Lillywhite, who produced its 1996 album, ‘Billy Breathes’.

Phish kicks off its sold-out summer tour on May 31st with a concert at Boston’s historic Fenway Park and will play two dates at next month’s Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival.

The band’s three-night stand at Hampton Coliseum was met with critical acclaim. USA Today praised the group for “expertly navigating hairpin changes” and The New York Times noted: “as the opening passage of the anthem ‘Fluffhead’ enveloped the room, the eruption of exultation was not merely for the band itself but also for the millions in the Phish diaspora who make up perhaps the most fervent fandom in pop music.”

“Over a massive, four-hour set, guitarist Trey Anastasio, bassist Mike Gordon, drummer Jon Fishman and keyboardist Page McConnell ripped through dozens of crowd-favorites,” said rollingstone.com, going on to note “they’re as well-oiled of a machine as they’ve ever been.”

Phish on amazon.com

McGraw has also launched an impressive acting career with 2004’s “Friday Night Lights,” 2006’s “Flicka,” followed by “The Kingdom” in 2007 and “Four Christmases” in 2008.

He is currently filming a co-starring role in “The Blind Side” with Sandra Bullock.

Red Light Management was founded in 1991 by Coran Capshaw at the beginning of his 18-year role as the personal manager of Dave Matthews Band. The company has grown into one of the premier artist management companies in the industry.

Sister company Starr Hill Presents promotes live music on a regional and national level, and together with its partners, Starr Hill Presents produces large-scale music festivals nationwide including Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, San Francisco’s Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival and the Mile High Music Festival in Denver.

Time Turns Elastic, a ground-breaking work for vocals, guitar and orchestra composed by Trey Anastasio and Don Hart, will be released on May 12, 2009 by Rubber Jungle Records, Anastasio’s independent label.

The piece – orchestrated by Hart and performed by Anastasio and The Northwest Sinfonia, conducted by David Sabee – blends the intrinsic elegance of classical music with searing blues-rock guitar, resulting in an exhilarating work that engages and challenges fans of both genres.

“Neither of us had ever heard anything that uses a guitar as a serious instrument intermingled with an orchestra in the same way one would write a concerto for a violin and orchestra,” says Anastasio, who first collaborated with Hart at the 2004 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival while staging a piece from one of his solo albums, Seis de Mayo. “I grew up loving Ravel and Eric Clapton equally,” he continues. “So I kept saying to Don, ‘why can’t we have a piece of music that’s half Ravel and half Cream’s Disraeli Gears?”

Both Anastasio, named one of the 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time by Rolling Stone and a founding member of the genre-melding rock band Phish, and Hart, who’s worked with a diverse group of musicians that includes Martina McBride, Collective Soul and Randy Travis and is currently Composer-in-Residence for Orchestra Nashville, are musical chameleons whose tastes cross all boundaries. While the pair’s collaborations on Anastasio’s Shine (2005) and Bar 17 (2006), may prefigure Time Turns Elastic, the composition actually began as a Phish song.

“I was living in upstate New York when I started writing this little tune that just kept growing,” recalls Anastasio. “I initially thought it would be a Phish song, but after I sent a demo of it to Don, it just grew organically into an orchestral piece.” The 13-minute acoustic guitar demo – which is included on the album – evolved into “Movement 2″ and “Movement 3″ and provided Hart with the inspiration for “Movement 1.”

Anastasio and Orchestra Nashville (conducted by Paul Gambill) gave Time Turns Elastic its debut performance at the Orchestra’s season opener at Nashville’s legendary Ryman Auditorium in September 2008. “It was ambitious, strange and wholly entertaining,” said rollingstone.com. “There was no doubt that he had won over both his hardcore fan base and the Bach aficionados who were new to the party.”

Time Turns Elastic will receive its East Coast premiere on May 21st when Anastasio joins Music Director Marin Alsop (the first woman to head a major American orchestra) and the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra for a special evening – already sold out – that will also feature classic Phish songs and solo Anastasio compositions. And Time Turns Elastic will come full circle when Phish performs it on the band’s upcoming summer tour, interpreting the piece as an epic rock song. For details on the tour, the band’s first in five years, please visit www.phish.com.

The announcement comes on the heels of the band’s three-night stand at Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, VA last weekend. “Over a massive, four-hour set, guitarist Trey Anastasio, bassist Mike Gordon, drummer Jon Fishman and keyboardist Page McConnell ripped through dozens of crowd-favorites,” said Rollingstone.com. “They kicked things off with some of their most compositionally complex tunes, from the knotted prog-funk of ‘Fluffhead’ to ‘Divided Sky,’ where the group’s quiet, mellifluous interplay of guitar, drums, bass and keys suggests they’re as well-oiled of a machine as they’ve ever been.”

The New York Times, which ran two features on the concerts, noted: “as the opening passage of the anthem ‘Fluffhead’ enveloped the room, the eruption of exultation was not merely for the band itself but also for the millions in the Phish diaspora who make up perhaps the most fervent fandom in pop music,” while USA Today said: “the foursome built the backbone of its first set on old-school material, expertly navigating hairpin changes and showing as much spunk as they ever have in this millennium.”

The band has already recorded demos of 20 new songs and will enter the studio in April to begin work on its new album with Steve Lillywhite (U2, Rolling Stones, Dave Matthews Band), who produced Phish’s 1996 album, Billy Breathes. The Clifford Ball, a seven-DVD box set from JEMP Records/Rhino capturing the band’s entire performance at this landmark 1996 festival, just debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Music Video chart.

Formed at the University of Vermont in 1983, the Grammy-nominated band was included in the Top 10 Grossing Concert Tours in North America from 1995-2000 and from 2002-2004. Phish has released 11 studio albums, six concert videos and a series of 44 complete live concert CDs, including 13 on its own JEMP Records. Its series of full concert downloads on livephish.com, the band’s digital download store, currently totals 91.

This month, the band announced additional dates, marking a return to the road for one of the most successful touring bands of all time. Tickets for this second touring leg go on sale this weekend.

JEMP Records and Rhino start the celebration a few days before Phish’s highly anticipated March 2009 shows with a 7-DVD collection documenting The Clifford Ball, a landmark concert event that drew more than 70,000 fans to upstate New York in August of 1996. It was the largest concert event of 1996 in North America and set the tone for music festivals including Bonnaroo and Coachella.

The Clifford Ball was the first of seven two-day spectacles the band staged, which included The Great Went a year later, followed by Lemonwheel in 1998 and culminating in Big Cypress – the largest ticketed event in the world for the millennium celebrations, drawing over 90,000. The Clifford Ball was held in Plattsburgh, New York, at a decommissioned air force base, during which Phish played two marathon concerts which include several on-stage guests.

The DVDs contain all three sets and encores the band played each night, along with bonus footage – more than 9 hours of live improvisation. The bonus DVD presents choice rarities including a soundcheck from August 15, their “Flatbed Jam” performed in the wee hours of the morning on the back of a truck, an interview with longtime Phish artist Jim Pollock, interviews with Phish and more.

An online ticket request period is currently underway at http://www.phish.tickets.musictoday.com. Tickets will go on sale to the general public the weekend of January 30th and 31st, 2009. For information on where to purchase tickets, visit http://www.phish.com/tourdates.

Phish’s summer tour will be preceded by a trio of concerts (March 6th, 7th and 8th) at Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia. The shows at the 13,800-capacity venue sold out just seconds after tickets went on sale last fall. They will mark the group’s first concerts since its August 2004 performance at the Coventry festival in Vermont.

On March 3rd, Phish will release The Clifford Ball on JEMP Records/Rhino. This major archival release features the band’s entire performance at the 1996 festival, which was the largest concert in North America that year and the first of many two-day festivals staged by the group. Over 70,000 fans turned out for the event, which was held at a decommissioned Air Force base in Plattsburgh, NY. The seven-DVD box set will contain more than nine hours of music, including a bonus disc with Phish’s extended soundcheck, its late night flatbed truck jam and a 30-minute featurette with exclusive behind-the-scenes footage. The original multi-track recordings have been remixed for stereo and 5.1 audio. Fans can pre-order The Clifford Ball at http://drygoods.phish.com.

Formed at the University of Vermont in 1983, Phish quickly became renowned for its live performances. “Phish offers something rare in pop: a long, complex, and completely different show every night,” said the Village Voice. The GRAMMY®-nominated band became one of the top touring groups in the U.S. and, by 1998, Rolling Stone had proclaimed Phish the most important band of the decade.

Phish – comprising guitarist/vocalist Trey Anastasio, drummer Jon Fishman, bassist Mike Gordon and keyboardist Page McConnell – has released 11 studio albums, five concert videos and a series of 44 complete live concert CDs, including 13 on its own JEMP Records. In addition, the band offers a selection of 88 full concert downloads at livephish.com. LivePhish.com is Phish’s digital download store and has been widely hailed as one of the first band sites to offer high-quality, unedited soundboard recordings of full concerts.

We are pleased to present the release of Phish’s December 30, 1997 live concert from Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Phish on amazon.com

After a standout show on 12/29/97, the band gave a loose, funky performance on the second night of their three-night stand at Madison Square Garden. The band came out of the gates smoking on night three of a four-show holiday tour on December 30th with “Sneakin’ Sally Thru The Alley” and “Taste”.

The nearly 3.5 hour marathon was capped by a playful, non-stop second set that highlighted a sublime “AC/DC Bag”, rare “McGrupp And The Watchful Hosemasters” and a heavily-narrated “Harpua” which introduced elements of the New Year’s Eve Udder Ball gag and Tom Marshall’s mysterious appearance from Trey’s past for Phish’s first and only cover of The Proclaimer’s “I Wanna Be (500 Miles)”.

An extended “Harry Hood”, “My Soul” and a deep, four-song encore of “Carini”, “Black-Eyed Katy”, a reprised “Sneakin’ Sally” and “Frankenstein” completed a curfew-breaking second set so long that the band got to wish the audience an early happy new year. Paul Languedoc’s 2-track soundboard mix mastered by Fred Kevorkian was sync’d to all the available video shot from the front-of-house position to create this latest LivePhish Video offering. 12/30/97 Madison Square Garden is an excellent example of just how fun a Phish Holiday show could be. Alone or as a necessary companion to the previous show, this is must-hear (and must-see) Phish from the archives.

This concert is available now for download at LivePhish.com (MP3 and FLAC) and on CD (available also at Phish Dry Goods) as part of the LivePhish series, packaged in an innovative and earth-friendly (fully recycled) folding softcase digi-pak. Video of this concert (with fully sync’d soundboard audio) is also available at LivePhish.com. We’ve also created specially priced bundles for CD+MP3, CD+VIDEO, and FLAC+VIDEO.

Phish and JEMP Records will release the complete three nights of music from the Roxy Theatre – six sets featuring 78 unique songs with two special guests and only one repeat spread over eight CDs – as ‘Phish: At The Roxy’, available in stores everywhere on November 18, 2008.

The second concert of the run is one the most-collected live Phish bootlegs; however, this will be the first time they will be heard in true high fidelity. The recordings are drawn from soundman/luthier Paul Languedoc’s two-track soundboard reference DATs and mastered by regular Phish collaborator, Fred Kevorkian.

One of the many highlights of At The Roxy is the second set of that show, which is highly celebrated for its extended suite of “Tweezer,” the James Gang’s “Walk Away,” “Mike’s Song,” the reggae song “Have Mercy,” Kiss’s “Rock and Roll All Nite” among other songs and improvisations.

Several special guests join Phish onstage, including Jimmy Herring (Widespread Panic, the Allman Brothers Band, Aquarium Rescue Unit) during the second set of the first night and banjo player Jeff Mosier (Blueground Undergrass, Aquarium Rescue Unit, Leftover Salmon) for a bluegrass encore during the third show. This is Phish at their peak in terms of playful, anything-goes musical precociousness. This is the first complete multiple-show release since Hampton Comes Alive and the Island Tour of 1998.

The members of Phish will come together on March 6th, 7th and 8th 2009, for three shows at Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia.

The concerts will be the group’s first since its August 2004 performance at Newport State Airport in Coventry, Vermont. The band intends to announce additional 2009 tour dates early next year.

Phish on amazon.com

An online ticket request period is currently underway at http://www.phish.tickets.musictoday.com.

Tickets go on sale to the general public on Saturday, October 18th, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. ET and may be purchased online at TicketMaster or by phone at 757.671.8100, 757.872.8100 or 804.262.8100.

Tickets will not be available at the venue box office; there is a two-ticket limit per show.

Hampton Coliseum is a favorite venue of both the band and its fans. Phish has played a dozen shows there thus far and recorded the GRAMMY®-nominated, six-CD set Hampton Comes Alive at the venue in 1998.

Formed at the University of Vermont in 1983, Phish comprises keyboardist Page McConnell, guitarist/vocalist Trey Anastasio, drummer Jon Fishman and bassist Mike Gordon. The band soon became one of the top touring groups in the U.S. and, by 1998, Rolling Stone had proclaimed Phish the most important band of the decade.

“Phish offers something rare in pop: a long, complex, and completely different show every night,” said the Village Voice. “Musically competent without fetishizing technique, Phish embraces a broad spectrum of rock, jazz, bluegrass, twentieth century compositional techniques, blissful extended jams, African groove experiments, psychedelic game playing, and free-form guitar ecstasy.”

The group has released 11 studio albums, six concert videos and a series of 42 complete live concert CDs, including 11 on their own JEMP Records. In addition, they offer a selection of 88 full concert downloads at livephish.com.

LivePhish.com is Phish’s digital download store and has been widely hailed as one of the first band sites to offer high-quality, unedited soundboard recordings of full concerts.

On November 18th, 2008, Phish will release At The Roxy on JEMP Records. The eight-CD box set chronicles the band’s three-night stint at The Roxy nightclub in Atlanta, Georgia in February of 1993.
