Soundtrack Album In Stores 10.20.09

The Resistance may have just hit the stores, but British arena-rockers Muse are ready to release new material.

The only returning artists from last year’s Twilight Soundtrack, the band is back with a new remix for the soundtrack to the latest installment in Stephanie Meyer’s Twilight saga, Twilight: New Moon.

Indie rock outfit Sea Wolf, whose sophomore album ‘White Water, White Bloom’ contributes the previously unreleased “The Violet Hour”.

The soundtrack, out October 20, 2009 via Atlantic/Chop Shop Records, also features Death Cab For Cutie, Thom Yorke, and The Killers.

The Fray return to the UK this autumn to headline a show at the Royal Albert Hall on October 20, 2009. They arrive on these shores after a mammoth tour of the US, spanning 34 shows over 27 dates in eight weeks.

Looner’s single “I Love My Tamagotchee!” (based on the wave of obsession the world saw from the Japanese “Tamagotchi” toy) and accompanying video have been released on their own label, Avian Recording Company.

For Looner, the road has always been a friend. From the profoundly spiritual experiences at The Red Rocks Amphitheater to sharing the stage with the likes of Ziggy Marley on many national coast-to-coast tours, Looner imbues their live performances with rhythmic digital loops, ingenious harmonic backdrops and lustrous vocal overlays.

Many words have been used to describe this multitasking musical-duo. Another of Looner’s unique characteristics, especially in the face of today’s often-jaded culture, is their persistence in conveying a positive message. Angel and Zoë are a genuinely happy couple, an aspect clearly displayed in their multifaceted art. “We’re really supportive of each other and it shows on stage,” say Angel and Zoë. “We’re not really trying to take over the world; we just want to make more music and get even more people to hear and enjoy it.”

With Puerto Rican ancestral roots and a modest Chicago upbringing, Angel relocated to Los Angeles in pursuit of the rock-and-roll dream and a mere $86 to his name. He has since recorded and toured the world with such esteemed artists as Dave Navarro and Ziggy Marley.

The daughter of film composer Basil Poledouris, Zoë was born in Los Angeles and by the age of nine had already made a melodic contribution to the musical world in the soundtrack for “Conan the Barbarian” – a feature film her father had been scoring at the time. As a result, Zoë received a co-writing credit and, in doing so, became one of the youngest members to join the ranks of BMI.

As an adult, Zoë continued with her craft and logged compositional credits for such films as “Starship Troopers,” “Cecil B. DeMented,” “Shadow of Doubt” and “Down and Out with the Dolls.” And now as a writing team, Angel and Zoë have together scored such movies as “Teenage Caveman” and the Sundance films “White of Winter” & “Fourteen.”

New Line Records announces the release of the original soundtrack to the upcoming New Line Cinema/Offspring Entertainment production, 17 Again starring Zac Efron and Matthew Perry.

The thirteen-track record offers material from Cat Power, newcomers The Virgins, Vincent, Vincent and the Villains, Sub Pop mainstay The Helio Sequence and other indie favorites. Apparently some of the stars in the film were getting stalked by fans and paps before the movie was even released, and the one that seems to be getting most of the attention is the young, up and coming actor Robert Pattinson, who plays Edward Cullen in the film.

It was interesting to find out that Robert Pattinson (who also played Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter) is also a musician, and has contributed a track, “Never Think” to the movie soundtrack, his first ever released recording.

Produced by Cooder’s son, Joachim, the 34-song compilation offers a fresh look at Cooder’s musical career, spanning 38 years–from his eponymous 1970 debut to this year’s I, Flathead–and includes the previously unreleased version of “Let’s Work Together” featuring accordion player Buckwheat Zydeco, drummer Jim Keltner, pianist Jim Dickinson and bassist Mike
Elizondo. Along with his solo work, THE UFO HAS LANDED features selections from Cooder’s film soundtracks, including the themes from Southern Comfort and Paris, Texas.

THE UFO HAS LANDED: THE RY COODER ANTHOLOGY collects Cooder’s most memorable cuts from his solo albums, including “Maria Elena,” “Jesus On The Mainline,” “Boomer’s Story,” “I Got Mine” and “Available Space.” The latter, a Cooder original on his debut, got its name from the album’s producer Van Dyke Parks, who saw the words on an empty billboard on the way to the studio.
