Evolved from a vinyl record store born in 2001, Revision Records is a diverse collective of DJs, live performers, music critiques, web designers, graphic artists, event promoters, and most importantly classically trained musicians and music producers.

The label is headed up by Joseph and Lori Scott who have over 10 years combined experience promoting and performing with some of the biggest names in the industry, including Randall Jones, Boy George, Peter Martin, Derek Howell, Sandra Collins, Paul Van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold and infamous super-club brand Spundae/Godskitchen.

Based in Houston, Texas, Revision Records also sports worldwide talent from Cape Town, South Africa and the UK. Revision Records has been riding the electronic music industry roller coastar in Houston for a while and it’s paying off.

Houston is quickly becoming a breeding ground for some of today’s most sought after artists such as Derek Howell, Joshua Michael, Peter Martin, Jake Childs, Josh Dupont, DJ Red, Joe Dismal and more.

It’s also becoming a sought after place for international acts to perform like Deadmau5, Benny Bennasi, Armin Van Buuren, David Guetta, and Randall Jones which serve to influence Revision Records work in the industry.

Armed with an impressive back catalogue, Revision Records officially launches on Thursday, August 20, 2009 with Eric Mould’s “Higher Plane” – scintillating and high energy club tracks with shades of dark nuance that play hard on the speakers.

Eric Mould captures the essence of what Revision Records is all about, breaking down genre walls with club fresh, compatible hits. His latest single titled “Higher Plane” and “You Love Electro Remix” are garnering international buzz from DJs and fans alike.

What DJ’s are saying about Revision Record’s Music:

“Two very strong dancefloor tracks… Both quirky & electrifying with driving basslines.” – 5.0 / 5 Ed Flow (Spain) (Black Mamba Records, La Cupula Music, Soultrade Records, Total Wipes Productions)

“I love the energy and feel of this release!” – 4.5 / 5 Jim Star (Canada) (alicemanagement.com ; no sound)

“This track is a club smasher for the club that plays more of an all around dance format.” – 4.5/5 Maurizio Saez (USA) (Miamibeatz.com, extendFM, Miami Records inc. inner current recordings, AlienSignal inc. LatroniK rec)

Succeeding already in its early life, the fledgling label has lined up some of the most notable digital music distributors and retailers for their releases including HousePlanet and BeatPort.

Austin band Achachay! will get fans shaking their hips at the kickoff event for Rice University’s Willy Week, a campus wide picnic featuring live music from Achachay! and Ben Kweller.

This funk rock extravaganza is the first of many big shows for recent Rice grad Jordan Myska Allen and Houston born Ryan Greenblatt. They have eschewed the traditional work route to pursue a career as rock stars.

The unusual pair garnish their funk rhythms, rock guitar, and danceable electronic synthesizers with lyrical topics that range from existential crises to absurd and imaginary rock people. The thought provoking and danceable tunes have found rapport with like-minded young adults looking to make sense of the world in the midst of financial troubles.

Fortunately for coin counting Achachay! and Ben Kweller fans, the show – which takes place on the campus at Rice University in Houston, TX Monday, March 16, 2009, and starts at 5:15pm – is free and open to the public.

A large outdoor stage will be set up in the lawn outside the Ley Student Center, across the street from the Baker Institute for Public Policy. The show will move inside Student Center in the case of inclement weather.

Lead guitarist and singer Allen and drummer Greenblatt will be supported by Sugarland native Sam Powell on keys, and Nick Floyd on bass.

ATO Records is excited to announce the release of Ben Kweller’s new record on February 3, 2009. The album is his fourth full-length and is called ‘Changing Horses’.

Beginning with his first record, ‘Sha Sha’, released in 2002, Kweller’s albums have always been stylistically restless, moving from indie rock to ballads to anti-folk to melodic chug rock, often from song to song. ‘Changing Horses’, on the other hand, is of one mind — a full-blown, straight up country affair, brimming with immaculate pedal steel, twang and multi-part harmonies. It features his touring band — Chris Morrissey on bass and vocals, and Mark Stepro on drums and vocals — as well as the brilliant Kitt Kitterman on pedal steel. Like all of Kweller’s work, the new album is filled with unforgettable melodies and deeply soulful lyrics that could only come from someone as sensitive to the human spirit as he is.

To make the record, Kweller dug down to his deepest roots. “I grew up bass-fishing, playing in creeks, and shooting BB guns,” Kweller says. “Country music was the soundtrack to my life. It’s still a big part of who I am. When Garth Brooks or Alan Jackson come on the radio, somethin’ happens inside. Brings me back to the trees, back to pushin’ cars out of the mud. Reminds me of my hometown.”

For Kweller, releasing a country album is the realization of a long-held goal. “I’ve been working on Horses for years.” he says. “I wrote the first song for it when I was 16. Over time, I’ve collected these songs that fit together and wanted to release them together. I didn’t want to try and fit them on my other albums one or two at a time.”

On producing the record himself, Kweller says, “I’ve learned so much from all the great producers I’ve worked with, from Ethan Johns to Gil Norton, and I just felt it was time for me to go in there and make the album the way I knew I could,” he says. “I wanted it to feel really pure and direct. I wanted each instrument to sound exactly like that instrument, with very little treatment or alteration, to give it that natural, warm beauty that I love.”

Kweller and his band, who just finished a tour of America, the UK and Europe, have confirmed a North American tour for 2009 to support the release of ‘Changing Horses’. The confirmed tour dates are below. A west coast leg of the tour as well more international dates will be announced soon.

The votes are in! From almost 20,000 ballots cast, Collin Herring has been selected as the “Best Alt-Country” artist by readers of the Fort Worth Weekly. This victory is in recognition of the stellar, heartwrenching work on Herring’s most recent record, ‘Past Life Crashing’.

‘Past Life Crashing’ is the product of two and a half years of song rewrites, re-recordings and remixes, production changes and countless hours of studio time, resulting in what the artist himself calls “the best representation of these turbulent last few years.”

The “turbulence” to which Collin alludes to includes bouts with drug addiction, a divorce and two stints in rehab. By contrast, the album is imbued with lyrical elegance, graceful intellect and outstanding musicianship from a truly innovative and prolific songwriter.

Creating what he describes as “songs for the common man,” the artist embraced his softer side, showcasing a natural progression in his songwriting while retaining the trademark reverb-drenched guitar crunch and nuances of classics 60s rock and in-your-face punk found throughout his catalog.

The album was recorded with an all-star cast of support musicians, including former Wilco drummer Ken Coomer, vocalist Kathleen Edwards, as well as Herring’s father, Ben Roi Herring, who contributes vocals, pedal steel and keyboards on the record.

Collin Herring has been heralded as “the torchbearer for alt-country,” while one overwhelmed writer declared that Herring’s style was “unclassifiable.”

Fort Worth Weekly’s distinction is only the latest in the series of accolades garnered by this talented young songwriter, who continues to work to become one of the preeminent and most accomplished songwriters of our time.

Upcoming shows:

August 13, 2008 ME TV (on-air performance), Austin TX
August 13, 2008 The Hole in the Wall, Austin, TX
August 31, 2008 Kettle Art Gallery, Dallas, TX

After a year of touring (with Gym Class Heroes, Fall Out Boy and Young Love, among others), Daniel Hunter and his PlayRadioPlay! outfit is ready to unleash his first full-length opus, ‘TEXAS’.

Says Hunter, a die-hard Cowboys fan: “I named it for the love of the state. I assumed somebody had named their album ‘Texas’ before, but no one had. I had to do it before someone else did!”

The songs showcase a slightly heavier guitar sound, but maintain Hunter’s quirky outlook and pop aesthetic. “I actually write my guitar stuff first,” says the musician. “Then I compliment it with some beats or keyboards.” But whatever the case, there’s definitely diversity at work. The ballad “Pirate and Princess” features almost orchestral flourishes, while “Tooth Decay” is more acoustic-based. The album also marks the first time Hunter has worked with a producer (Garrett Lee) and live drums.

Although the Postal Service and “poptronica” have been used to describe PlayRadioPlay!’s gentle beats and keyboard-centric songs, Hunter has created his own phrase to describe the sound. “It’s Texas Straight-edge Softcore,” he says, laughing. “I mean, I’m making fun of straight-edge hardcore…a genre that I am not. Why can’t there be straight-edge softcore?”

PlayRadioPlay! will be on tour this spring with Yellowcard promoting ‘TEXAS’ due out March 18, 2008 on Island Records.

As the definitive snapshot of Bob Hope entertaining the troops during war time, Subrosa Union, the “Rasta Rockers” from El Paso by way of their new home in Austin, Texas will share in that legacy.

Armed Forces Entertainment has selected and offered Subrosa Union the opportunity to perform and tour the Middle East to over 80,000 troops. Without hesitation, Subrosa Union accepted. The boys that comprise Subrosa Union not only consider this a tremendous honor to entertain and perform for the men and women of our armed forces, but a call to give the troops a brief mental respite by energizing their minds and brightening their day with Subrosa Union’s original rock, reggae, latin hip hop funky concoctions of spicy aggressive sounds off their newly released album ‘Looking Forward’.

As the official Department of Defense agency for providing entertainment to U.S. military personnel overseas, Armed Forces Entertainment and its performers have the honor of supporting soldiers, airmen, marines and sailors by bringing them the very best in American entertainment.

Today, Armed Forces Entertainment hosts over 1,200 shows around the world each year, reaching over 500,000 personnel at 270 military installations. From muddy makeshift stages to show-stopping extravaganzas, the performances bring a piece of home to those stationed far away from home.

Lead singer and front man Mike Anaya, 22; bassist and MC Chris Paulos, 22; and drummer and the beat of Subrosa Union Paul Valenzuela, 25 have been together of over eight years. Creating a new genre of “Rasta Rock”, Subrosa Union is true to their rebellious spirit and they say their style is definitely unique and can’t be defined by one genre…

“We’re just making it up as we go along that’s why we’ve dubbed our art Rasta Rock,” Anaya said. “This is extremely significant in our lives as a band, and as individuals and what’s more important is the opportunity to bring a little of home to those serving far away…We are extremely excited to gig in 6 of the eight countries on this tour self entitled ‘Operation Looking Forward’”.

Subrosa Union will be on a four-week tour of 5 of eight countries in Southwest Asia which comprises Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, UAE Qatar, Djibouti, and Kyrgyzstan starting in late January 2008.

Guitar Center and Charlie Sexton will join Gibson Guitar for a special event to launch the world’s first guitar with robotic technology, the Gibson Robot Guitar.

The event takes place on Monday, December 3, 2007 at 3 p.m. at Guitar Center, 2525 West Anderson Lane, Ste. 200, Austin, Texas. True to the spirit of innovation, Gibson Guitar is set to make musical history with the invention of the world’s first Robot Guitar.

Austin-raised singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Charlie Sexton made his debut with ‘Pictures For Pleasure’ in 1985 at age 16. He followed up that release with a self-titled second album when he was 20. As a prodigy guitar player, Sexton is known for his live and session guitar work with Bob Dylan, Keith Richards, Ron Wood, David Bowie and Don Henley; his album production for Lucinda Williams, Edie Brickell, Los Super Seven and Shannon McNally; and his own projects, both as a member of Arc Angels and a solo artist, including his fourth album, ‘Cruel And Gentle Things’.

The public and press are invited to attend this sneak peak and exclusive event hosted by Charlie Sexton, who will demonstrate and perform with the world’s first run limited edition version of the Gibson Les Paul Robot Guitar. A question and answer session will follow.

The Gibson Robot Guitar goes on sale at 5 p.m. on Friday, December 7, 2007, with a very limited number of guitars at each of the participating dealers.

To find the list of exclusive Robot Guitar dealers go to: Gibson Robot Guitar Dealers.

Guitar Center at 2525 Anderson Lane, Austin, will take reservations for the Gibson Robot Guitar during the special event. Once the limited supply is sold out, Gibson Guitar will not reproduce. Only ten robotic guitars per store are available.

Grimy Styles, Austin-based instrumental dub roots reggae outfit, is excited to announce the release of debut album, ‘Rewind,’ and accompanying tour set to kick off June 13th with 16 dates confirmed in New Mexico, Arizona, California, Utah, Colorado and Texas.

Formed in 2001 with keyboardist Martin Moeller, Grimy Styles expanded to their current quartet with Matt Beebe (guitarist), Jacob Benenate (drums) and Chris Nerren (bass) to record their live debut, ‘Restoration of the Bathouse’ in 2004.

As Grimy Styles refines their self-proclaimed “melting pot” sound, they use the dub roots reggae genre as a platform to develop what has become their signature sound. “We call it global dub music because it’s exactly that,” explains Moeller. “Whether it’s Middle Eastern or American Soul or Jamaican Reggae, Afro pop, Afro beat – it all comes together.” Furthermore Grimy Styles applies a progressive approach to their live performances using cutting edge mixing techniques and unique onstage signal processing, rewarding both the careful listener and recreational dancer with imaginative soundscapes. “You feel the music in your heart and your head or your hips and your legs,” clarifies Beebe. “With no vocals in dub music, it’s open to your own interpretation.”

Their new album, ‘Rewind’ captures a bold, panoramic vision of dub now synonymous with Grimy Styles. Seeking to create an album that carried the spontaneity of its dub predecessors yet remain deeply rooted in structure, Grimy eschews the dub tradition of one-take processing on a rhythm track for slightly less conventional studio techniques. Slamming an old spring reverb on the floor, plucking the strings of a shabby upright piano, or running takes backwards through the tape machine was all part of a normal day’s work for the band during the Rewind sessions.

Intricate descriptions of ‘Rewind’ aside, the music is very easy to listen to. “Something we were going for was to create an album that works as a ‘household LP’: You can throw it on without having to think about it and know you’ll have nice background music,” says Moeller. He adds that if you really want to tune in however, you should put on headphones and “you can probably find new things every time you listen to it.”

Having recently shared the stage with the likes of dub legend Mad Professor and Lee Scratch Perry, an internationally acclaimed innovator of the dub movement, Grimy Styles has rapidly risen to the forefront of the Austin music scene with a growing, loyal fan-base. Grimy hopes to expand their following beyond Austin with their upcoming tour.

The tour launches in Albuquerque, New Mexico on June 13, and has nearly nightly shows booked throughout the Western US. Grimy Styles closes the tour in the comfort of their hometown Austin, Texas on June 30.

Billy Harvey’s latest release, “Bearsick” ascended to the #1 album downloaded on eMusic for March 30th. It has been made available online for advance sale to select storefronts and will be officially released later this year.

Billy will also be touring throughout North America in 2007 in support of “Bearsick.”

Singer, songwriter, producer and a caffeine addled DIY kid – Billy Harvey has been playing his own brand of post modern pop for a decade within the friendly confines of Austin, Texas. He gained credibility, respect and admiration establishing himself as a producer, recording out of his in-home studio with the likes of Trish Murphy, Bob Schneider, Blue Sanders, Steve Poltz, Kacy Crowley, Craig Ross and many, many others.

Rather than waiting to be signed, Billy created his own label and released three full length albums: Toast (2003), Pie (2005) & Bearsick (2007), as well as an EP: More Happy Than Sad (2002). He has won an International Songwriters Award for Best Rock Song (”Frozen Through”) in 2006 and his website has won various media and internet based awards, including the 2005 Interactive Design Award at South By Southwest.

Sugar Land, Texas–October 12, 2006– Ed Maly is a Texas original. He was born and raised in the Longhorn state and began playing guitar at the age of five. After paying dues in many bands during his high school days and at local clubs, Maly started releasing recorded music in 1995. Six albums full of blues-rock have come out over the years and most recently, Walking Shoes Blues is beginning to find its way into people’s hearts.

The opener and title track is a crackling blues-rocker that rolls on down the line like a well-oiled locomotive. Ed and his band chugs along with a lot of swagger, cooking up a Texas flavored blues-rock stew with plenty of heat and emotion that burns with sarcasm and wit. The sound and lyrics are what the blues are renowned for and Maly and his band pay the legacy and tradition of the genre its just due on the lively rockin’ recording.

Ed Maly and his band will be taking the music of Walking Shoes Blues to the people at live events and the CD is available directly from the band’s label Hot Texas Tunes. The music is available in different formats from the band’s website, via CD Baby, or each track is ready for downloading from iTunes separately. Stop by the band’s website for updates, touring news, and recent photos taken at performances.
