New video for single, "The Golden Age"

Copenhagen's retro soul popsters The Asteroids Galaxy Tour are leading the new wave of Scandinavian pop.

The highly anticipated release of debut album, FRUIT, will arrive October 13, 2009 on Small Giants.

'Fruit' is a musical rollercoaster of happy soul and kaleidoscopic pop triumphs, which includes "Around The Bend" of Apple iPod Touch commercial fame, the more melancholic, teetering-on-trippy track “Satellite,” and “Lady Jesus” a deliciously-groovy song with an insatiable sing-a-long chorus that will get stuck in your head for days.

The core members of the band are Lars Iversen and Mette Lindberg. Together they have fermented their love of soul and kaleidoscopic pop, spectacularly brought to life through Mette’s utterly unique and very cool vocals. Live, the band grows to a six-piece, including a fully-fledged horn section of trumpet and sax, clavinet sounds, drums and guitar. In addition to festival circuit appearances, the band joined Katy Perry on an extensive European tour this summer.

About that name...“I stole it from Miloud, our Moroccan trumpet player who spent time in Cuba playing with the Buena Vista Social Club, he came up with the name”, laughs Lars. “I like it because it sounds like the title of a film or a book, rather than a band name. It’s asking you to step in to a story and join us on a journey - a trip in our galaxy”.

Formed less than a year ago, The Asteroids Galaxy Tour is moving at the speed of light. The band, led by Lars Iversen and Mette Lindberg, created quite a buzz when they came to New York City this past November, heralded (and hosted) by Spin and GBH.TV as one of the hottest new bands from across the pond - thanks to their attention-grabbing 4-track digital EP (3 songs + a remix), 'Around the Bend'.

Music lovers responded loudly: The band has been embraced by Rolling Stone, Anthem, NYLON, GOOD, AOL and Yahoo! Music, while RCRDLBL premiered an exclusive MP3. Whitney Matheson included "Around the Bend" in her "POP CANDY" podcast for USA TODAY, and URB will feature TAGT in an upcoming issue.

MTVu featured "The Sun Ain't Shining No More" video in the "Freshman Five" in early December, and the producers of "Gossip Girl" loved the band so much, they used three (!) of the band's songs in their December 1 episode. Oh, and did we mention that The Asteroids Galaxy Tour's song "Around the Bend" was hand-picked by Steve Jobs for use in the most recent iPod Touch commercial?

Their debut full-length, 'Fruit' swerves left and right with one surprise after another. Each song is a carefully crafted pop gem, guaranteed to get you moving. 'Passport Approved', a syndicated tastemaker weekly radio show showed their love for "The Golden Age", the sixth track on the album, while AM New York says it is, "A blast of vintage soul from Copenhagen...a verifiable sensation."

Their debut full-length 'Fruit' is set for release May 18, 2009 (Small Giants).

Another track, "The Golden Age", has mysteriously popped up on the playlist for "Passport Approved", a syndicated radio show broadcasting weekly on Indie 103.1 (Los Angles), WXPN and other "tastemaker" stations around the country.

If that weren't enough, their song "Around the Bend" is currently being featured in ads for the new iPod Touch (http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/gallery/ads/), and is available now on iTunes.

Stylistically The Asteroids Galaxy Tour is hard to pin down, except to say that they throw one hell of a party - which may be why those music-loving folks at Apple chose them to help sell what's being touted as "the funnest iPod ever". Sun-drenched pop melodies collide with Technicolor dreams, anchored by the band's shared love of the classic soul stylings of Marvin, Stevie and Sly that can be heard in the horns snaking through "Around The Bend" as well as the slinky "The Sun Ain't Shining No More", for which they have made a spectacular video.

'Around the Bend' is out now. TAGT's debut full-length album in early 2009.

Although Mette and Lars are the core of The Asteroids Galaxy Tour, the band grows to a six-piece live, including trumpet and sax players, clavinet sounds, a drummer and a guitarist.
