The Coral is set to release their latest single, “Put The Sun Back” in February 2008.

2007 has been the year in which The Coral put the problems of the past behind them and re-emerged stronger and brighter than ever. Their current album, ‘Roots and Echoes’ was regarded across the board as a major return to form for a band who have been in the glare of the spotlight since their Top 10 eponymous debut in 2002.

With Q acclaiming lead singer and lyricist James Skelly as “one of the finest writers, and voices, in British music today”, NME seeing it as “the finest since their debut” and the Daily Mirror conclusively stating “you won’t find a better album this year”, the return of the Wirral six piece was the comeback of the year. Little wonder that ‘Roots and Echoes’ is noted in many of the end of year polls for albums of the year.

The year closed with the band playing three very special home town shows at Liverpool’s Academy with supports from long term fans The Twang and The View in addition to original home town heroes Shack.

2008 sees The Coral release a new single from ‘Roots and Echoes’ in the form of “Put The Sun Back”. The single is released on CD and two limited editions formats. Across the format are 3 exclusive new tracks, a live version of the single and the video.

Watch The Coral – “Put The Sun Back” video:

Details are as follows:

I arrived at the Carling Academy Oxford just in time to grab a beer and see Manchester, UK based band Northern Uproar take the stage. I like their positive, upbeat punk influenced sound. They look good on stage together and it’s always good to see a bass playing vocalist.

I enjoyed the burly guitarist’s Steve Jones/Mick Jones influence. There was also a bit of a Jam style to their music. All around, I think that Northern Uproar is a good band to look out for.

The Coral are one of my favourite bands on the scene at the moment, so it was great to get the chance to see them play live in Oxford. I wasn’t disappointed after listening to their new album ‘Roots and Echoes’. They weren’t shy in promoting said album and why not because when they played “Who’s Gonna Find Me” it sounds a million times better standing in the same room as the band, hearing it live.

I feel a bit of a Beach Boys vibe off them in a slight way and do believe that The Coral will be with us for a very long time. It’s always good to watch a band mature in front of you.

So definitely go along to a live Coral show because they make you forget about what’s going on outside and they get you wobbling from side to side with a smile on your face for an hour or so!

“Jacqueline” is the second single to be taken from The Coral’s hugely acclaimed, top 10 album, ‘Roots & Echoes’, rightly regarded as a stunning return to form with Time Out amongst those heralding “easily one of the most important bands of the last decade.” The track will be released on October 1st 2007 on Deltasonic through Columbia on three formats including CD and two 7″s.

Pre-order Jacqueline, get signed artwork + exclusive footage here!

The Coral’s fourth studio album follows a well documented period of soul searching within the band. Still younger than many contemporaries with half their recorded output, the band have returned to public attention galvanised by their experiences and critics have responded to this rejuvenated band with unbridled enthusiasm, with Q proclaiming James Skelly “one of the finest writers, and voices, in British music today.” “Jacqueline” proves that The Coral have not lost their ear for an immediate pop tune and ‘Roots and Echoes’, as with all Coral albums, sees a band on a continual quest to re-imagine their music through their wide influences, whether 60’s soul and Merseybeat, 50’s skiffle and do-wop or 70’s psychedelic imaginings.

The Coral play this year’s V festival, performing in Chelmsford on 18th August and Stafford on 19th August 2007. Following this they re-join the Arctic Monkeys as specials guests on their American tour. Long time fans of The Coral, Arctic Monkeys invited the band to support them in Europe earlier this year and at their recent Lancashire County Cricket Ground shows. The band then embark on a Full UK tour in the Autumn

When Candie Payne released her debut album ‘I Wish I Could Have Loved You More’ last month it was hailed as “a cracking album, brimming with bright, finger snapping pop and torch songs” (Observer Music Monthly).

Candie Payne’s unique modern twist on a classic sound and mesmerising tales of boy meets girl, girl stabs boy with stilletto-sharp lyrics are a combination that’s going to be breaking a lot more hearts by the end of year (“she seems to spend most of the album dreaming up new and increasingly callous ways to tell men to bugger off…” The Guardian).

New single “One More Chance” is produced by wunderkind Mark Ronson (who she’s touring with in the autumn) and has a seductive pop sound and a warped modern sensibility. B sides include “Shopping” (Weller?) and an inspired cover of the Bugsy Malone classic “Ordinary Fool”. “One More Chance” is set for release September 3rd 2007 on Deltasonic.

Following a recent sonic/65 tour with The Draytones and a storming opening night at Glastonbury (where she also led an impromptu singalong in the festival sauna), Candie Payne is next off to NYC for the first time since shipping out at 10 years old where she’ll be filming a video around some of her old stomping grounds.

Watch Candie Payne – One More Chance video:

Candie will also performing at the iTunes festival at the ICA on July 30th with The Coral and will be appearing at various festivals over the summer – details below.

Times – 4 stars “stylish, retro pop. Excellent!”

Guardian – 4 stars “lovingly constructed, gorgeous sounds – an entirely beguiling debut”.

The UK V Festival is set to take place at Hylands Park, Chelmsford, Essex and Weston Park, Staffordshire, England on Saturday August 18th and Sunday August 19th 2007.

There are quite a few bands included in the V Festival lineup that have been making the rounds during the 2007 UK festival circuit like The Killers, Kasabian, Snow Patrol, The Fratellis, Babyshambles and The Kooks. Even with all of their appearances, though, the festivals keep selling out. It’s good to see that live music is still selling tickets during these days of low CD sales.

Iggy and The Stooges are even going to be there – which should be one to watch after what happened at Glastonbury. I wonder if people will be invited on the stage for some chaos at the V Festival?

As always, it’s great to see Guillemots included on the lineup. They’re scheduled to play on the Channel 4 stage and The Coral – one of my new “bands to watch” is also playing on that stage but on opposite days. Foo Fighters I’m sure will put on a great show. Jet would be a cool band to see and Primal Scream and Happy Mondays fans will be treated as well.

Interesting to see Sinead O’Connor sandwiched in between Dizzee Rascal and Beverley Knight.

The Coral are set to release their latest single, “Who’s Gonna Find Me” on July 30th 2007 in the UK. “Who’s Gonna Find Me” is the first single off of their fourth studio album ‘Roots and Echos’ out on August 6th.

After their recent stint at Glastonbury, the timing couldn’t be better for The Coral to be releasing their upcoming single. I watched their Glastonbury performance and from what I was able to see on TV, they were one of the best acts at the festival. The harmonies were a treat, their sound was tight and the songs had actual melodies. There have been a few bands coming out that I’m afraid have forgotten what a melody is.

“Who’s Gonna Find Me” is a great example of the melodic harmonies that The Coral produce. The single is so rustic sounding with a classic edge, that it could easily sit alongside songs like “Jezebel” by Herman’s Hermits and “She’s Not There” by the Zombies in an early 60’s soundtrack.

The Coral, who hail from Hoylake, Merseyside near Liverpool, England released their debut album ‘Shadows Fall’ in 2001. Since then they’ve had 8 top 40 singles and four top 5 albums (including mini album ‘Nightfreaks and Sons of Becker’). ‘Roots and Echos’ is sure to be another success for The Coral. A refreshing change from the norm for music lovers of all ages.
