Career Embracing Collection Out On Universal

Featuring A First Of Its Kind Blu-Ray Audio Disc & SuperHighway Tour Online Music Experience

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers release ‘The Live Anthology’, November 23, 2009, a multiple-disc set of recordings drawn from thirty years of incredible live performances around the world.

The collection brings together material from 1978-2007 culled from hundreds of hours of live concert recordings covering every era of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ tours and represents the best tracks as chosen by producers Tom Petty, Mike Campbell and Ryan Ulyate. Several of the tracks were recorded at Wembley and Hammersmith.

The release of The Live Anthology comes on the heels of two sold out US tours, the Grammy winning documentary Runnin’ Down A Dream (directed by Peter Bogdanovich), and an explosive headline performance at 2008s Super Bowl XLII halftime show.

The producers made no fixes or overdubs, letting the newly mixed original recordings showcase the invention, spontaneity, craft, and the musicianship that has made Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers among the most celebrated live performers of their time.

Along with powerful interpretations of their own classic hits and originals, The Live Anthology features the band tackling some of their best-loved cover material, from classics to obscure beauties to unexpected adaptations. The theme from Goldfinger, the Zombies’ “I Want You Back Again,” the Grateful Dead’s “Friend of the Devil,” early Fleetwood Mac’s “Oh Well,” Booker T. and the MGs’ “Green Onions,” James Brown’s “Good, Good Lovin’” and many more.

Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers travel wide, paying their musical debts through song and showing just how confidently the band moves across genres and over time.

Steve Winwood returns on April 28th, 2008 with his new UK single release, "Dirty City", a rousing collaboration with Eric Clapton who plays guitar on the track. It will be the first track to be taken from Steve Winwood's forthcoming studio LP 'Nine Lives' which is released in the UK May 5th.

"Dirty City" will be released digitally, and is one of the many highlights from the new album, written and co-produced by Steve Winwood with Johnson Somerset. An opulent, ambitious single, "Dirty City" is a welcome return for the artist who's widely regarded as one of the most respected and innovative performers of his generation.

Other highlights on the album are many and include "Forget About Him", a joyous and moving six-minute journey through horns, keyboards and world instruments. Alongside "Hungry Man", "We're All Looking", and the captivating track "Secrets" means the album is as consistently strong as it is diverse.

Steve Winwood and Eric Clapton played three sold out nights at Madison Square Gardens, New York in February. Steve and his band will be special guests to Tom Petty on his US tour this summer.

It's been a slow start this morning, after staying up until well past three in the morning here in England, watching the Patriots lose the Super Bowl. Boooo. I was so disappointed with the loss, I wondered why I bothered to stay up at all. Now I'm paying for it today. Not only that - I somehow managed to talk two other people into staying up and watching the game with me - and now they're paying for it too, I owe them big time - and it wasn't even worth it.

As far as the half-time show went, it was certainly a safe bet having Tom Petty on as the act. As expected, the band sounded good and played through a tame set of familiar hits like "American Girl", "I Won't Back Down", "Free Falling" and "Runnin' Down A Dream". We were surprised to see the guitar player pull out the double necked electric at one point - but that's about as risque as it got.

There was news a few days ago that Mark Oliver Everett - or "E" as he's known - from the Eels was going to put on a one second ad during the Super Bowl for their upcoming album, 'Useless Trinkets'. The ad was supposed to be of E saying the first letter of the new album title - the letter "U" and would have been the shortest TV ad ever used during the Super Bowl, at the cost of a mere $100,000.

I've just found out that it didn't air, and E has stated, "In the end we were told that the NFL would have to find 29 other advertisers to buy 1 second spots to fill a standard 30 second advertising slot and that they do not sell advertising time by the second. They also noted that a rapid fire 30 second segment of thirty 1 second commercials could cause people with certain medical conditions to have seizures and that it was against network regulations."

That's too bad. The good thing, though, is that you can still see a video of the 1 second ad here, and a 5 second version here.

We were watching the game on the BBC in England, so this was the first time that I've ever watched the Super Bowl with no ads. Not even British ads this year, which was great. Especially since a lot of people in England don't like watching the NFL because of all the ads.

Anyway, congrats to the NY Giants fans - it was a close game. Condolences go out to my fellow Pats fans!
