Plus: In-store appearances and tracklisting details for ‘What Is Light? Where Is Laughter?’

Acclaimed Glaswegian rock band Twin Atlantic are set to release the latest cut from their recently released ‘Vivarium’ mini-album on the 30th of November, in the form of “What Is Light? Where Is Laughter?”.

Buy Music:

Twin Atlantic on amazon.co.uk

In support of the single’s release, the band has announced a series of in-store appearances as well as their previously announced dates with The Fall Of Troy.

In addition to these, the quartet also play the BBC Introducing event on November 17th at Belfast’s Mandela Hall, alongside Two Door Cinema Club, Pulled Apart By Horses and Save Your Breath, before rounding off their live activity for the month with an appearance at the Homecoming Live event at Glasgow’s SECC on November 28th. The band play Hall 3 alongside fellow Scots The View, Teenage Fanclub, Idlewild and many others.

“Frontman Sam articulates endearing confessionals and though parallels to early Biffy are audible, it’s doubtful their compatriots were ever so energetic.” – NME

“There’s something gloriously impassioned about Sam McTrusty’s vocals. Yearning, searching, hoping and, above all, real.” – KERRANG!

“Glasgow’s Twin Atlantic are one of the most exciting bands you’ll hear for some time. Surely the beginning of great things.” – ROCKSOUND

“This is a band whose urgent energy is clearly catching on.” – THE FLY

Twin Atlantic will perform at the following in-stores:

2009 dates:

NOV 30: EDINBURGH – Avalanche Records, 65 Cockburn Street @ 1pm (01312 253 939)

The single, from David Guetta’s critically acclaimed album One Love, is his most successful hit to date in the U.S. “Sexy Bitch” has sold 800,000 downloads thus far and it continues to race up the airplay charts where it is currently # 8 at the Rhythm format, #13 at Top 40 and #12 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The “Sexy Bitch” video was just added to MTV with spins beginning this week.

Guetta embarked on his most extensive U.S. club tour to date yesterday in Atlanta, GA, running through December 3rd in Denver, CO (full schedule below).

Guetta and Akon are confirmed to perform “Sexy Bitch” together on the new TBS late night show “Lopez Tonight” on November 30th.

Today, Guetta will make a special appearance along with Diplo, Will.i.am. and Dr. Dre at the brand new Best Buy store in NYC’s Union Square to help promote the chain’s new Club Beats™ program which One Love is a part of and will be featured along side 6 other albums in the new DJ experience section of the store.

David Guetta continues to reach new heights around the world since the August release of One Love. The album reached #1 in Europe has sold over 900,000 copies worldwide.

Both “Sexy Bitch” and the album’s first single “When Love Takes Over” featuring Kelly Rowland were both #1 songs on the European airplay and sales charts and both hit #1 on the U.S. Billboard dance chart.

As a producer, Guetta produced one on the year’s biggest hits, The Black Eyed Peas “I Gotta Feeling.” He was recently named the European ambassador and spokesperson for DJ Hero. The game features 3 tracks from One Love, “Sexy Bitch,” “When Love Takes Over” and “On the Dancefloor” – in an exclusive download package format. One Love’s 3rd single, the title track featuring Estelle, is currently climbing the charts overseas and with a stellar remix package including re-rubs by Calvin Harris and DJ Chuckie, will impact U.S. clubs and dance radio next week.

David Guetta released One Love, a non-stop, party-thumping musical hybrid of dance beats and hip-hop/R&B vocals to rave reviews in August. People Magazine called ‘One Love’ “a party-rocking album” and the Associated Press agreed, “Guetta’s CD is one big party,” The album features vocals from some of music’s biggest names that includes Akon, apl de ap, Estelle, Kid Cudi, Ne-Yo, Novel, Kelly Rowland, will.i.am and Chris Willis. One Love, Guetta’s fourth studio album has already reached platinum in France, Gold in Canada, South Africa and Belgium… to name a few.

Move over JLS – Nicole Jane set to Gatecrash the party with smash “Is It Me”

“A beautiful track” – Dev, BBC Radio One

“I listen to Is It Me and all I can do is smile” – Hattie Collins, The Observer

“Is It Me is getting the biggest response in clubs by MILES. A message to other R&B groups: STEP UP!” – Firin Squad, Kiss FM

After nearly four million MySpace plays, being the Number One group on the MySpace charts with no official single, and winning the Best UK Unsigned Artist prize, Nicole Jane finally release their debut single “Is It Me” on 23rd November.

Buy Music:

Nicole Jane on amazon.co.uk

Nicole Jane are a vocal trio consisting of brothers, Jace B Carreira, Alfie-J Carreira, and Dieu Carreira. Raised in London and officially forming as a musical collective in 2006, Nicole Jane capped off their first year together by winning the best the Official UK Unsigned Contest.

Not a group to rest on what was a fantastic achievement; NJ spent 2007 touring across the UK supporting the likes of Lemar, Timbaland, Ne-Yo and Lily Allen on their tours. After causing mass hysteria at their shows and topping the MySpace charts, Nicole Jane’s show stealing reputation had reached fever pitch across Europe where they spent the majority of 2008 touring going from supporting headline acts to being the headline act.

While comparisons with JLS are inevitable, Nicole Jane are comfortable in their own lane where they write and produce their own material. Record and publishing companies have already started the bidding war for the Nicole Jane signature including Akon who wants NJ to join his stable of artists which includes Lady Gaga and T-Pain, so exciting times lie ahead.

Currently on a grueling schedule of working in the studio wrapping up their debut album ‘Searching for Nicole’ and a nationwide tour, NJ took the time out to work with Kent Police and Amelix Marketing on the ‘Is It Worth It?’ tour which saw them touring the schools across Kent in a bid to reduce anti-social behaviour, which has dramatically increased throughout Kent in the last five years.

On the impact Nicole Jane made on the tour, Toni Sealey, Youth Projects Manager at Amelix said “What a great sound! These guys are fantastic, a versatile and professional band, engaging performers and very talented artists. We couldn’t have chosen anyone better to spread our message across”.

With material reaching nearly four million plays on MySpace to performing on an international stage independently is nothing short of outstanding. Eagerly anticipated, Is It Me’s smooth blend of R&B and pop in all its glory is sure to ruffle up a few feathers and firmly stamp the NJ sound on the international R&B scene from 2009 onwards. Is It Me is set for release through Carreira Records on 23rd November along with a nationwide tour to support the release. You’ve been warned.

Label: Carreira Records
Release Date: 23 November 2009

Twisted Folk presents: Stornoway and Beth Jeans Houghton – UK Tour in February 2010

Over the past four years, Twisted Folk Tours have become known for adventurous, hand picked line-ups representing the best in modern folk and twisted popular music.

It’s Twisted Folk who put together this year’s highly successful collaboration between UK pastoral pop group Tunng and Malawian desert bluesmen Tinariwen. Who assembled Nina Nastasia, Jeffrey Lewis and William Elliot Whitmore for an extra-special special tour. Sent Howe Gelb and the Voices Of Praise Choir off on a nine-date jaunt around the UK, packaged King Creoste with Jose Gonzalez and Vetiver (then featuring Devendra Banhart) with Micah P Hinson and Vashti Bunyan.

They’ve outdone themselves once again with this latest tour, showcasing two of the most talented young acts in the country – Stornoway and Beth Jeans Houghton – in what promise to be some truly unmissable shows.

Buy Music:

Stornoway on amazon.co.uk

Named after the Hebridean island but hailing from Oxford, Stornoway are a four-piece band of songsmiths, scholars, scientists and men of the earth.

The last couple of years have seen them quietly honing their art in the shadows of the dreaming spires, and earlier this year they released their first official single; the critically acclaimed “Zorbing”. Their charming brand of quintessential pop, steeped in pastoral hues, won them fans across radio and press.

They were booked to play an unprecedented 4 stages at Glastonbury Festival 2009, Radio 1 asked them to headline their ‘Introducing Stage’ at their Big Weekend and they are one of only a few bands that both Radio 1 and 6 Music have agreed to collaborate on, granting Stornoway a shared broadcast session from the prestigious Maida Vale studios.

The band, who embarked on their first tour of the UK in mid-October to coincide with their second single “Unfaithful”, also performed on Later With Jools Holland in November alongside JayZ and Foo Fighters.

“It’s only our second time on the road and we are right chuffed to be following in the footsteps of such twisted folks, and to be performing alongside MegaBeth. We look forward to challenging her to a hand of poker and training her in the art of hackisack. There’s nothing we enjoy more than playing live, playing cards, and playing hackisack.” Brian Briggs from Stornoway

Beth Jeans Houghton is the Newcastle singer who, to paraphrase The Guardian, joins the dots between Gwen Stefani and Vashti Bunyan. Beth Jeans Houghton has been playing guitar since the age of 16. She’s only 19 now. In the meantime, she’s supported Tunng and Tinariwen, hobnobbed with Vetiver, the late John Martyn, Bon Iver and Joanna Newsome and recorded a single, “Golden/Nightswimmer” with Adem and more recent an EP ‘Hot Toast Volume 1’ with Mike Lindsay from Tunng.

She was the popular hit at 2009’s Green Man festival and has been hitting the road with her band, The Hooves Of Destiny.

An album is on currently being produced by Ben Hillier, the production mastermind behind Elbow’s Cast Of Thousands, Doves’s Some Cities and Blur’s Think Tank.

“I plan to dip my toes into many genres before I quit this mortal coil,” says Beth. “I don’t define my music and I try not to let music define me. We are two separate entities, but we get together for a shindig once in a while – and I intend to keep it that way.”

Fresh from the studio, Fight Fair are now supporting Breathe Carolina on the EZ Bronz Tour along with Cash Cash, Stephen Jerzak and Kill Paradise.

The band finished recording their full length debut in San Diego with Mike Green (Paramore, Set Your Goals) and will begin mixing shortly for a Spring 2010 release.

Chosen by Alternative Press as one of the 100 Bands You Need To Know in 2009, the band has spent the past year supporting their debut EP Settle The Score touring with Amber Pacific, The Friday Night Boys, around the country several times and appearing at Bamboozle Left.

Originally spawned from San Diego State University’s infamous party scene, Fight Fair’s members came together with a wide range of influences from pop-punk, screamo, hip-hop, hardcore, emo and more.

Lead vocalist Alex Bigman describes the bands sound as “uplifting and positive while maintaining the aggressive sound we grew up with.” Taking influences from early 1960s surf pop rock and traditional ’70s powerpop punk for the full length, Bigman states, “don’t be surprised to hear some Beach Boys style harmonies; no one will be able to compare it to anything else.”

NEW “We Share The Same Skies” Video

Tracklist for ‘One Life Stand’ also announced

To herald the release of their new album One Life Stand, Hot Chip will be bringing their explosive live show back to North America in April.

The band will be playing tracks from new album as well as old favorites. The xx will be the band’s special guests on this tour.

As with their sold-out tour last September, the band will once again feature a live drummer on these dates adding an extra dimension to their already exhilarating shows.

Here’s what some critics have said of their shows last year:

“Hot Chip was hot all right. The English electro-pop act packed the Sahara tent at Coachella on Saturday evening, and then some, blinding the crowd with beats…” – Los Angeles Times

“A non-stop pressure cooker of a performance”- Boston Herald

Tickets will be on sale for the public on November 23, 2009 for the following dates.

Hot Chip April 2010 North American tour dates:

Taken from their highly anticipated debut album, ‘Youth Games’ the infectious new single from Montreal rockers The Mission District is released December 7, 2009.

“Just Don’t Feel The Same” combines the bands love of 80’s electro pop and brilliantly crafted lyrics to create a pop rock masterpiece!

Watch “I Just Don’t Feel The Same” video:

Currently hard at work recording their debut album for Relentless / EMI Records, The Mission District are a Montreal-based 5 piece that combine ’80s Brit pop like The Cure, Tears for Fears and New Order with contagious fuzzy pop-punk and churns out one fist-pumping sing-a-long chorus after another. In other words, this electric band makes dance music you can mosh to!

Brain-conquering singles like “The Age Of Pretending” and “So Over You” have won them a steady online following (20,000 MySpace friends and counting), a spot on tour with The Bravery, Elbow and most recently, Elliot Minor.

New Single: “Just Don’t Feel The Same”
Released on Relentless Records
December 7th 2009

After just five days on Amazon.com’s Top 100 Chart, Erin McKeown’s latest album, ‘Hundreds of Lions,’ peaked at #1 on the Bestseller MP3 Album Chart.

‘Hundreds of Lions’, released October 13 on Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Records, “truly shines,” hails Paste Magazine.

The accomplishment is the latest in an impressive line for Erin, whose groundbreaking “Cabin Fever” series on YouTube brought her closer to her fans, allowing them to interact with her over the Internet while being treated to intimate performances of both new and old songs.

Free Download: The Foxes MP3

Erin was also featured on WXPN’s renowned World Café which went live on November 10. In the feature, McKeown discusses Hundreds of Lions and plays tracks from the album live in the studio.

Illustrious Cuban singer Omara Portuondo has made history twice this year.

In October, the remarkable vocalist, and only female star of the Buena Vista Social Club™, became one of the first Cuban artists in six years to obtain a visa to perform in the U.S., marking a cultural breakthrough in the strained relations between her homeland and the U.S.

On November 5, 2009, she also became the first Cuban resident to present at the 10th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards, where she delivered the prestigious Song of The Year award.

She was honored again as the winner for Best Contemporary Tropical Album or “Mejor Album Tropical Contemporaneo” with her latest release ‘Gracias’ produced by Montuno Productions and released on World Village.

Although Omara Portuondo is a four-time Latin GRAMMY nominee, and won a “Premio Musica Brasileira” Brazilian Music Award last year for her duets album with Maria Bethania, as well as a Billboard Latin Music Award in 2005, this is her first GRAMMY award.

“I’m going to represent Cuba, because I think I’m going to be the only one that will be there,” Portuondo told the New York Daily News the day before the awards ceremony. “I’ll be there for all of the others.”

Portuondo performed two U.S. shows in October, for the first time since 2003, at UCLA’s Royce Hall and at the San Francisco Jazz Festival. Of her San Francisco show the Oakland Tribune wrote, “It’s impossible to say whether she handles the fast or slow numbers better. Whatever kind of song she’s singing at the time is the one that best suits her.” Portuondo returns in February of 2010 with concerts in Washington DC, Boston and New York City, among other major cities.

‘Gracias’, which was also awarded the Cubadisco 2009 Grand Prix in May, is Portuondo’s third solo album, and it marks a professional musical career spanning 60 years.

The New York Times declared that at 79 “her voice …is rich, shapely, dynamic, and still sultry”, and the Los Angeles Times called her “still a vibrant contemporary performer”.

She first found fame in her home country with Las D’Aida quartet, and throughout the 1970s and ’80s was a highly acclaimed solo vocalist. It was the Buena Vista Social Club™, however, that launched her into worldwide fame, along with such major figures as Ibrahim Ferrer, Rubén González and Compay Segundo.

‘Gracias’ was produced by Ale Siqueira, with musical direction from Swami Jr., and it features “some striking collaborations” (Songlines), with such guest artists as Jorge Drexler, Richard Bona, Cachaíto López, Chico Buarque and Chucho Valdés. It is a special gift from the artist to herself and to the songwriters for whom she feels the highest regard.

As the Montreal Gazette writes, it is “a highly personal collection of ballads… she packs a lot of feeling into this tender and nostalgic album.”

These are the songs she has always longed to sing.

Robert Cray has announced his UK tour dates. For thirty plus years Robert Cray has laid down track after track of good-time, uptown, low-down blues. He’s won five Grammy’s and been nominated for 11 more.

From classic titles ‘Phone Booth’, to highlights from his more recent releases ‘Poor Johnny’, whether addressing timeless themes of heartache and romance ‘The Things You Do To Me’ or this morning’s headlines ‘Twenty’, Cray delivers on a promise he’s been making since his first trip into the studio.

Robert Cray’s virtuosity has led to collaborations with luminaries such as Eric Clapton, the Rolling Stones, B.B. King, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Chuck Berry and Bonnie Raitt.

His new album ‘This Time’ is realised on his own imprint Nozzle Records and arrives at a vital juncture in the musician’s career, marked by creative renewal and a key reunion with an old performing partner, bassist Richard Cousins.

Lead single “Mess of Me” is getting airplay at Modern and Active Rock radio stations and is climbing the Modern Rock radio chart. “The Sound,” another track from the album, has been tapped by Verizon Wireless for its national ad campaign for the BlackBerry® Storm™ 2.

Fans who pre-order Hello Hurricane will immediately receive a free download of “Mess of Me” and four videos. They have five pre-order options to choose from: the standard CD edition; deluxe CD/DVD edition with approximately 60 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage and studio performances; vinyl with CD; the Collector’s edition (Hello Hurricane CD, deluxe DVD, an additional CD with studio outtakes and more, limited edition poster and 84-page hardcover book); and the digital download edition. For additional information or to pre-order, visit ITunes or the band’s web site www.switchfoot.com.

At the end of October, Switchfoot – comprising of Jon Foreman (vocals/guitar), Tim Foreman (bass), Chad Butler (drums), Jerome Fontamillas (keys/guitar) and Drew Shirley (guitar) – will take the stage for Yahoo! Music’s new live concert program, “Maximum Performance Guitar Hero 5.”

Jon and Chad will be featured in an upcoming episode of “Road Trip Nation” airing on PBS stations in November. Check local listings or watch the episode at www.roadtripnation.com/watch/ anytime after its November 5th debut on KLCS TV in Los Angeles and Orange County. MySpace will premiere Hello Hurricane the week before its release and the band will be interviewed on “The MySpace Music Feed” on Monday, November 9th.

Switchfoot is the subject of an upcoming Rolling Stone “In the Studio” feature and will be on the cover of Relevant Magazine’s November/ December issue. Jon has also penned two articles recently: his piece on charity in your own backyard will be in the November issue of Alternative Press and he’s written on the nature of heroism for The Huffington Post.

He also recently participated in filming an innovative online game called “The Climate Challenge,” for Oxfam (www.oxfamamerica.org/music).

“When you play the game, you will feel the urgency. We have to start acting now on climate change. There is literally no time to waste,” says Foreman. The game will launch in late October at The Climate Challenge.

Hello Hurricane, Switchfoot’s first studio album since 2006’s Oh! Gravity, which debuted at No. 18 on The Billboard 200, acknowledges life’s storms while managing to find an element of hope in them. The band tracked more than 80 songs at its self-built home studio before narrowing it down to the 12 that appear on the new album. (Fans can check out the four-minute trailer, “The Making of Hello Hurricane,” at www.switchfoot.com.)
