In addition to these, the quartet also play the BBC Introducing event on November 17th at Belfast’s Mandela Hall, alongside Two Door Cinema Club, Pulled Apart By Horses and Save Your Breath, before rounding off their live activity for the month with an appearance at the Homecoming Live event at Glasgow’s SECC on November 28th. The single, from David Guetta’s critically acclaimed album One Love, is his most successful hit to date in the U.S. “Sexy Bitch” has sold 800,000 downloads thus far and it continues to race up the airplay charts where it is currently # 8 at the Rhythm format, #13 at Top 40 and #12 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The “Sexy Bitch” video was just added to MTV with spins beginning this week.

Guetta embarked on his most extensive U.S. club tour to date yesterday in Atlanta, GA, running through December 3rd in Denver, CO (full schedule below).

Guetta and Akon are confirmed to perform “Sexy Bitch” together on the new TBS late night show “Lopez Tonight” on November 30th.

Today, Guetta will make a special appearance along with Diplo, Will.i.am. and Dr. Dre at the brand new Best Buy store in NYC’s Union Square to help promote the chain’s new Club Beats™ program which One Love is a part of and will be featured along side 6 other albums in the new DJ experience section of the store.

Nicole Jane are a vocal trio consisting of brothers, Jace B Carreira, Alfie-J Carreira, and Dieu Carreira. Raised in London and officially forming as a musical collective in 2006, Nicole Jane capped off their first year together by winning the best the Official UK Unsigned Contest.

Over the past four years, Twisted Folk Tours have become known for adventurous, hand picked line-ups representing the best in modern folk and twisted popular music.

It’s Twisted Folk who put together this year’s highly successful collaboration between UK pastoral pop group Tunng and Malawian desert bluesmen Tinariwen. Who assembled Nina Nastasia, Jeffrey Lewis and William Elliot Whitmore for an extra-special special tour. Sent Howe Gelb and the Voices Of Praise Choir off on a nine-date jaunt around the UK, packaged King Creoste with Jose Gonzalez and Vetiver (then featuring Devendra Banhart) with Micah P Hinson and Vashti Bunyan.

They’ve outdone themselves once again with this latest tour, showcasing two of the most talented young acts in the country – Stornoway and Beth Jeans Houghton – in what promise to be some truly unmissable shows.

Named after the Hebridean island but hailing from Oxford, Stornoway are a four-piece band of songsmiths, scholars, scientists and men of the earth.

The last couple of years have seen them quietly honing their art in the shadows of the dreaming spires, and earlier this year they released their first official single; the critically acclaimed “Zorbing”. Their charming brand of quintessential pop, steeped in pastoral hues, won them fans across radio and press.

They were booked to play an unprecedented 4 stages at Glastonbury Festival 2009, Radio 1 asked them to headline their ‘Introducing Stage’ at their Big Weekend and they are one of only a few bands that both Radio 1 and 6 Music have agreed to collaborate on, granting Stornoway a shared broadcast session from the prestigious Maida Vale studios.

The band, who embarked on their first tour of the UK in mid-October to coincide with their second single “Unfaithful”, also performed on Later With Jools Holland in November alongside JayZ and Foo Fighters.

Beth Jeans Houghton is the Newcastle singer who, to paraphrase The Guardian, joins the dots between Gwen Stefani and Vashti Bunyan. Beth Jeans Houghton has been playing guitar since the age of 16. She’s only 19 now. In the meantime, she’s supported Tunng and Tinariwen, hobnobbed with Vetiver, the late John Martyn, Bon Iver and Joanna Newsome and recorded a single, “Golden/Nightswimmer” with Adem and more recent an EP ‘Hot Toast Volume 1’ with Mike Lindsay from Tunng.

She was the popular hit at 2009’s Green Man festival and has been hitting the road with her band, The Hooves Of Destiny.

An album is on currently being produced by Ben Hillier, the production mastermind behind Elbow’s Cast Of Thousands, Doves’s Some Cities and Blur’s Think Tank.

“I plan to dip my toes into many genres before I quit this mortal coil,” says Beth. “I don’t define my music and I try not to let music define me. We are two separate entities, but we get together for a shindig once in a while – and I intend to keep it that way.”

The Twisted Folk Tour runs as follows this coming February, tickets £8-10 advance.

Originally spawned from San Diego State University’s infamous party scene, Fight Fair’s members came together with a wide range of influences from pop-punk, screamo, hip-hop, hardcore, emo and more.

Lead vocalist Alex Bigman describes the bands sound as “uplifting and positive while maintaining the aggressive sound we grew up with.” Taking influences from early 1960s surf pop rock and traditional ’70s powerpop punk for the full length, Bigman states, “don’t be surprised to hear some Beach Boys style harmonies; no one will be able to compare it to anything else.”

Headline Bowery Ballroom in NYC December 11th

NYC collective The Phenomenal Handclap Band will be performing their final NYC show of the year, headlining the Bowery Ballroom [6 Delancey St.] for the first time on Friday, December 11, 2009.

Opening will be Javelin and Eclectic Method. Show is 18+, Doors at 8pm.

The band has been playing select dates across North America with Simian Mobile Disco, Chromeo and Bajofondo among others in support of their self-titled debut on Friendly Fire Recordings.

After just five days on Amazon.com’s Top 100 Chart, Erin McKeown’s latest album, ‘Hundreds of Lions,’ peaked at #1 on the Bestseller MP3 Album Chart.

‘Hundreds of Lions’, released October 13 on Ani DiFranco’s Righteous Babe Records, “truly shines,” hails Paste Magazine.

The accomplishment is the latest in an impressive line for Erin, whose groundbreaking “Cabin Fever” series on YouTube brought her closer to her fans, allowing them to interact with her over the Internet while being treated to intimate performances of both new and old songs.

Erin was also featured on WXPN’s renowned World Café which went live on November 10. In the feature, McKeown discusses Hundreds of Lions and plays tracks from the album live in the studio.

She will also be featured on WNYC’s Soundcheck, scheduled for December 3, 2009.

In addition, Erin is still touring with fellow singer-songwriter Jill Sobule and will be hitting numerous cities across the country this fall.

Illustrious Cuban singer Omara Portuondo has made history twice this year.

In October, the remarkable vocalist, and only female star of the Buena Vista Social Club™, became one of the first Cuban artists in six years to obtain a visa to perform in the U.S., marking a cultural breakthrough in the strained relations between her homeland and the U.S.

On November 5, 2009, she also became the first Cuban resident to present at the 10th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards, where she delivered the prestigious Song of The Year award.

She was honored again as the winner for Best Contemporary Tropical Album or “Mejor Album Tropical Contemporaneo” with her latest release ‘Gracias’ produced by Montuno Productions and released on World Village.

Although Omara Portuondo is a four-time Latin GRAMMY nominee, and won a “Premio Musica Brasileira” Brazilian Music Award last year for her duets album with Maria Bethania, as well as a Billboard Latin Music Award in 2005, this is her first GRAMMY award.

“I’m going to represent Cuba, because I think I’m going to be the only one that will be there,” Portuondo told the New York Daily News the day before the awards ceremony. “I’ll be there for all of the others.”

Portuondo performed two U.S. shows in October, for the first time since 2003, at UCLA’s Royce Hall and at the San Francisco Jazz Festival. Of her San Francisco show the Oakland Tribune wrote, “It’s impossible to say whether she handles the fast or slow numbers better. Whatever kind of song she’s singing at the time is the one that best suits her.” Portuondo returns in February of 2010 with concerts in Washington DC, Boston and New York City, among other major cities.

‘Gracias’, which was also awarded the Cubadisco 2009 Grand Prix in May, is Portuondo’s third solo album, and it marks a professional musical career spanning 60 years.

The New York Times declared that at 79 “her voice …is rich, shapely, dynamic, and still sultry”, and the Los Angeles Times called her “still a vibrant contemporary performer”.

She first found fame in her home country with Las D’Aida quartet, and throughout the 1970s and ’80s was a highly acclaimed solo vocalist. It was the Buena Vista Social Club™, however, that launched her into worldwide fame, along with such major figures as Ibrahim Ferrer, Rubén González and Compay Segundo.

‘Gracias’ was produced by Ale Siqueira, with musical direction from Swami Jr., and it features “some striking collaborations” (Songlines), with such guest artists as Jorge Drexler, Richard Bona, Cachaíto López, Chico Buarque and Chucho Valdés. It is a special gift from the artist to herself and to the songwriters for whom she feels the highest regard.

As the Montreal Gazette writes, it is “a highly personal collection of ballads… she packs a lot of feeling into this tender and nostalgic album.”

These are the songs she has always longed to sing.

Victoria B.C. atmospheric rockers Jets Overhead, are about to embark on a cross-Canadian tour as the support act for synthpop sensation LIGHTS.

The 17-date tour begins in Vancouver on Saturday November 7th, travels as far east as Montreal and ends in London, Ontario on December 3rd.

Jets Overhead are touring in support of their sophomore album No Nations, out now on Vapor Records.

Earlier this year the band travelled to Beijing, China for a series of festival dates and have also toured across the U.S., Canada and Europe sharing the stage with Sam Roberts, Our Lady Peace, Tegan and Sara, Broken Social Scene, The Dears, The Stills, The Temper Trap, The Dandy Warhols, Powderfinger and The Frames.

Jets Overhead have also performed at the prestigious Neil Young Bridge School Benefit as well as at the CMJ, SXSW and Bonnaroo music festivals.

The band will then appear on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” performing on the outside stage on November 12th.

The tour will feature Switchfoot playing Hello Hurricane in its entirety, followed by fan favorites from its previous records.

The band will be collecting donations for local food banks along the tour route, so fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable items to the shows. (See below for tour itinerary and a list of food banks that will receive donations.)

Switchfoot is also launching a new website, www.theworldyouwant.com, which will spotlight goodness, beauty, and truth in everyday life. Fans are invited to contribute stories about people they know who are making this world a better place and the band will read some of these contributions from stage during the tour.

Recorded with producer/bassist Mike Elizondo (Rilo Kiley, Eminem, and Pink), Hello Hurricane is the group’s seventh full-length and its first on Atlantic Records.

He also recently participated in filming an innovative online game called “The Climate Challenge,” for Oxfam (www.oxfamamerica.org/music).

“When you play the game, you will feel the urgency. We have to start acting now on climate change. There is literally no time to waste,” says Foreman. The game will launch in late October at The Climate Challenge.

Hello Hurricane, Switchfoot’s first studio album since 2006’s Oh! Gravity, which debuted at No. 18 on The Billboard 200, acknowledges life’s storms while managing to find an element of hope in them. The band tracked more than 80 songs at its self-built home studio before narrowing it down to the 12 that appear on the new album.
