The Grammy-winning four-piece recently dropped teaser track "Back Round" on iTunes, MySpace.com/wolfmother and wolfmother.com. And the foot-stomping, fuzz-drenched song will soon challenge players of Activision's Guitar Hero 5.

Wolfmother is also opening for AC/DC on its "Black Ice Tour," beginning in February 2010.

The down-under tour, featuring two groups of Sydney's finest sons, sold out faster than any in the Australia's history.

Led by hirsute shredder Andrew Stockdale, the band cooked 'Cosmic Egg' for three years, taking time to lock in a permanent lineup and build on the self-titled album that gave the world the insta-classic track "Woman."

They recorded over the course of two months with heralded UK producer Alan Moulder (Smashing Pumpkins, The Killers, My Bloody Valentine). His sweeping and storied career as an iconic record-maker coupled with Wolfmother's immortal song craft add up to nothing short of a rip in the time-space continuum. But each one of these face-melting tunes was written to be played live and loud.

Wolfmother plans to headline a U.S. tour after the album's release later this year.

The Australian Music Prize (The Amp) returns in 2008 to encourage, reward and promote Australian music of excellence.

Now in its fourth year, The Amp is calling for all Australian artists across every musical genre to submit original album-length works (released in 2008) to go into the running to win the cash prize, which this year has increased to $30,000.

Prize Director of The Amp 2008, Tracey Grimson, says: "The Amp is thrilled to offer an increased cash prize to its winner this year, thanks to the ongoing support of one of our principal partners, PPCA. PPCA has been with us since the word go. It's a happy marriage and we're grateful for their continued support."

Stephen Peach, Chief Executive of PPCA, says all Australian artists can benefit by becoming a PPCA member: "PPCA collects licence fees from commercial users of recorded music like radio, TV, retail stores, bars and nightclubs. We then distribute the net income we've collected direct to registered Australian artists and to their record labels." He adds that PPCA, which is a non-profit organisation, shares The Amp's commitment to the promotion of Australian recordings: "We're delighted to be continuing our partnership with The Amp in 2008."

Last year's winner of the Australian Music Prize was The Mess Hall, awarded the esteemed prize for the album 'Devils Elbow'. The prize money has been a "blessing", according to the band. "We've used the bulk of it on touring and we've also gotten ourselves a permanent space where we can record and rehearse," says the band's drummer Cec Condon. "It's enabled us to have a bit of financial breathing space before we start the recording process again." But The Amp is not only about the prize money.

In the short years since its birth, The Amp has become Australia's most prestigious music award, renowned for its objectivity and its integrity. Like the UK's Mercury Music Prize, The Amp is intended to encourage excellence and to attract the broadest spectrum of entrants.

"Every Australian artist who released an original album in 2008 should enter the Australian Music Prize," says Tracey Grimson. "The judging panel is comprised of some of the best sets of ears in the country - whether artists, music media or retailers. These judges are huge music fans who are open to listening to every style of music. And they're unbiased in their approach to judging the award."

The winner and finalists (known as the Shortlist) will share in widespread media and retail exposure thanks to their association with The Amp 2008. And along with the Australian Music Prize itself, The Amp also awards an encouragement prize (supported by Red Bull), as well as including a public vote component.

More details of the Red Bull Prize will be announced very soon, along with a couple of exciting developments which will make The Amp 2008 the biggest and best yet. Artists intending to enter should note there is an early bird entry fee of only $55 applicable from 1st to 31st October. Entries received after that date will attract a $95 fee. Final entries close on 21st November 2008, no exceptions.

To enter (from 1st October, 2008), go to:

Cage The Elephant (average age of 20) are a five piece from Bowling Green, Kentucky who are set to win hearts and minds in the UK in 2008 as they bring their incendiary live show back to the UK.

Like Beck's anti-hero anthem "Loser", Cage The Elephant's first single "In One Ear" is a tounge-in cheek riposte to any possible doubters: "They say the devil is my pal / I do a lot of drugs / The crowd will only like me if they're really f*@k!ing drunk". Ushered in by a bass line of Herclean proportions, it soon becomes apparent Cage The Elephant don't just want to rock hard, they want to make people dance.

Onstage fights and broken amps being hurled into the audience are just some of the elements likely to occur at a Cage the Elephant show. Most importantly, the staple of all of their live performances is brilliant rock 'n' roll music: as thrillingly aggressive as the Stooges and as anthemic and raw as the Kings of Leon's first LP, coupled with the groove of Rage Against The Machine, this is a band that will remind you why you fell in love with rock 'n' roll.

Led by brothers Matt and Brad Shultz, the band create a real sense of drama, tension and heart-in-mouth thrills with their onstage love-hate relationship. A recent show saw lead singer Matt compliment his brother by launching him across the stage, face first, into the front row barrier: Brad returned the favour with an equally affectionate gobful of spit to his brother's face.

The band are one of the buzz acts in the US going into 2008. This is off the back of their explosive performance at Lollapalooza last summer and some riotous gigs during main tour supports with Queens of the Stone Age and Wolfmother. On the QotSA North American tour last year, Cage won over many of the Queens' fans and struck up a strong rapport with the band during their time together on the road.

Cage The Elephant then came across the pond to support Foals, The Ravonettes and Wombats on their respective UK Autumn / Winter tours. Some legendary nights were had and friendships struck as Cage proceeded to tear up venues and win many new friends up and down the country.

Lock up your daughters: Cage The Elephant are coming to town...

Upcoming show: NME Show with 9 Black Alps - Koko, Camden, London - Friday 8th February, London

More UK live dates to be announced shortly.

Their proper first single "In One Ear" is set for release March 10th, 2008 on Relentless / DSP. Format: CD single / 7" vinyl / digital download (download release: March 2nd).

"Who needs indie whimsy when you've got scorched-earth desert punk as venomous as this?" - NME

Cage The Elephant are: Matt Shultz - Vocals; Brad Shultz - Guitar; Jared Champion - Drums & Percussion; Daniel Tichenor - Bass/Vocals; Lincoln Parish - Lead Guitar

The Reading festival is taking place over the Bank Holiday weekend - Friday August 25 - Sunday the 27th and this looks like one of the best festivals of the year. Like the V Festival, there are two locations with most of the acts playing both in Reading and Leeds over the weekend which makes things easy for those closer to each town, and a very busy weekend for the bands. Tickets are sold out - if you want to go to this festival, you have to plan early!

A few of my favorite bands of the year are playing which include: Franz Ferdinand, Guillemots, Muse, Dirty Pretty Things, (Wolfmother - one to watch) The Raconteurs and Goldie Lookin' Chain (Dave loves them). There are a few bands on the line up that I haven't heard yet and I'm sure I'm not the only one which means that this festival will give many people the opportunity to introduce themselves to a lot of most likely good music with all the different stages and bands throughout the weekend. Here is the line up as listed on the official Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds Festivals' website:

FRIDAY 25TH - READING / SATURDAY 26TH - LEEDS

MAIN STAGE
Franz Ferdinand
Kaiser Chiefs
YEAH YEAH YEAHS
BELLE AND SEBASTIAN
FALL OUT BOY
THE SUBWAYS
PANIC! AT THE DISCO
DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL
It's so refreshing to finally hear true rock music beginning to cut through the airwaves once again here in the uk. Not that there's anything wrong with other music genres (indie), but it's about time that some kick a** bands start to receive the acknowledgement that they deserve.

After watching footage of T in the Park in Scotland over the weekend, Wolfmother was one of the truely stand out acts. How about, for all you rock fans, a band who can in one song alone, sound like Led Zeppelin, White Stripes, Jeff/Tim Buckley and Black Sabbath? No I'm not making this up.

Check out their myspace page if you don't believe me!
