If you haven’t caught YACHT in the flesh yet, now is your chance!

The avant-pop duo have just confirmed a string of Fall tour dates including dates with Yeah Yeah Yeahs. You can expect power point presentations, the destruction of the 4th wall, and of course YACHT’s signature dance moves.

For all you NY-ers that have heard rumblings about a secret show this week, we’re ready to let the cat out of the bag. YACHT will be playing in Brooklyn tonight (Friday Sept. 4th) at Glasslands. Doors are at 8:30 and it’s $10 to get in. Eamon Harkin will be DJing and YACHT perform at 10:30pm.

YACHT’s new album ‘See Mystery Lights’ is in stores now on DFA Records. The digital single for “Psychic City (Voodoo City)” is available on iTunes now, complete with several remixes and B-sides.

Here we are, with our very first Band Weblogs Stance Awards, 2009.

One thing often overlooked when it comes to Rock ‘N’ Roll and unforgettable live performances, are the many great stances that we’ve seen on stage over the years.

With the Band Weblogs Stance Awards, there is a certain criteria to fill when it comes to picking the best stances on stage – along with a unique formula that we’ve used to determine our Top 5.

Since funds are limited this year, unfortunately, we were unable to give the winner an actual, physical award, but what they can walk away with, is knowing how high in our estimation they are.

After lengthy discussion and consideration, and having to narrow down quite a few great Glastonbury stances to the Top 5, the decisions were made.

Counting down from 5:

5. Karen O – Yeah Yeah Yeahs
With her, shall we say, interesting fashion sense and loyal fans, Karen O never lets us down when it comes to stage stances.

Website: Yeah Yeah Yeahs

4. Alex James – Blur
During his Glastonbury set, bassist Alex James from Blur played a stand-out performance, but it was his stance that took it to another level. He spent a lot of time standing with both feet on the monitor, looking cool, while continuing to play hit after hit.

Website: Blur

3. Tom Jones
What can we say? He’s Tom frickin’ Jones. It was great seeing the legendary singer at Glastonbury. His voice is so good, it tends to overshadow his stage stances, but he’s able to pull both off with ease.

Website: Tom Jones

2. Gareth McGrillen – Pendulum
The second bass player in the Top 5, Gareth McGrillen from the Australian now British-based band Pendulum was a contender from the start. The band probably played one of the best shows at Glastonbury Festival this year, and it was Gareth’s stance that was a surefire stand-out – and it almost got him to #1.

Website: Pendulum

1. Bruce Springsteen
Talk about unforgettable live performances. Bruce Springsteen blew us away. The band was top notch, playing the classic Bruce Springsteen songs we all know and love, like “The River” and “Born To Run” and the couple of songs that I hadn’t heard before, like “Outlaw Pete”, by the end, I was singing along like I’d been listening to them for years. The band played a 2 hour and 40 minute set, breaking the Glastonbury curfew, which just goes to show the passion and dedication that Bruce has for his craft – and his fans. However, it was Bruce’s legendary stage stances, sometimes reminiscent of Joe Strummer, that got him to #1 on this list, and during the long set, we were entertained with countless amounts of them. 5 stars.

Shake guitarists Jon Merkin and Eliad Shapiro bond with the likes of Adam Levine (Maroon 5), Serj Tankian (System of a Down), and Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) to use First Act Guitars.

First Act, a pioneer in musical products, offers an innovative line of musical instruments for all ages and prides itself on enhancing children’s development, and encouraging a lifelong love of music.

Merkin explains “This is a very encouraging step forward for the band because it shows that people out there believe in our music and that they want to support us in making it. Many great guitarists use these guitars, and I’m honored to be part of this family.”

Shapiro echoes his sentiments: “First Act makes beautiful custom guitars used by great groups, such as the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Franz Ferdinand, Cheap Trick, the Cure, and so many others. It’s really great to know that we’ve been accepted into the same ranks.”

The Shake will play the initial concert with their new First Act guitars on August 29th 2007 in New York City. The band has been asked by Columbia University to headline their year-opening celebration. The concert, a groundbreaking event for the band, will find them playing for over 1,000 people in the Registry Room of historic landmark Ellis Island. “It’s a really meaningful place for us to play,” says Merkin “We’ve all got family that came to America, passing through the same Hall that we will be performing in. It’s a special opportunity.”

Shapiro concurs, “It’s almost like the Lower East Side circa the early 20th century takes over Ellis Island. Never in a million years could our grandparents have envisioned that their grandchildren would be in a rock band playing in front of thousands of people in that hall. Funny how things can come full circle like that.”

Fans can also find The Shake in record stores and on iTunes, as their track “Let Me Take You Far Away” is included on the Bulletproof Records soundtrack License to Wed from the recent film of the same name starring Robin Williams and Mandy Moore. The CD also features music from The Beach Boys, The Righteous Brothers and Al Green.

The Shake was recently featured on Breakthru Online Radio where they performed a full set live in the Breakthru studio. The performance is available for streaming in www.breakthruradio.com’s archive under DJ Jeff K.

The Reading festival is taking place over the Bank Holiday weekend – Friday August 25 – Sunday the 27th and this looks like one of the best festivals of the year. Like the V Festival, there are two locations with most of the acts playing both in Reading and Leeds over the weekend which makes things easy for those closer to each town, and a very busy weekend for the bands. Tickets are sold out – if you want to go to this festival, you have to plan early!

A few of my favorite bands of the year are playing which include: Franz Ferdinand, Guillemots, Muse, Dirty Pretty Things, (Wolfmother – one to watch) The Raconteurs and Goldie Lookin’ Chain (Dave loves them). There are a few bands on the line up that I haven’t heard yet and I’m sure I’m not the only one which means that this festival will give many people the opportunity to introduce themselves to a lot of most likely good music with all the different stages and bands throughout the weekend. Here is the line up as listed on the official Carling Weekend: Reading and Leeds Festivals’ website:

New York, NY – Yeah Yeah Yeahs put the word out: Be us in our “Cheated Hearts” video. And holy high-kick, fans came in droves with moves, attitude and style – or sometimes just a bad wig. Singer Karen O, drummer Brian Chase and guitarist Nick Zinner knew their fans were rock stars. Apparently they did, too, because they got entries a-go-go.

And now the “Cheated Hearts” video is done and ready for release. Yeah Yeah Yeahs thank all the participants whether they have their moment in the video sun or not. They feel a like-minded symmetry, and now they have a like-looking video.

“I still have stuff in my hair,” Ohio native Matt Selsber said. “Getting nick head is harder than getting a nick move.”*

“I was so pretty I thought I’d get in touch with my feminine side,” said Danny Oxley of Wisconsin, who lip-synced Karen O. “But my feminine side told me I wanted to kick some sort of ass. I became tougher than ever, though I couldn’t stop wondering what shade of lipstick she wears.”*

While Yeah Yeah Yeahs gave it up to the fans, they didn’t tell, either. Those vying for video fame interpreted lipstick shades and rock moves for themselves. As a result the video runs the gamut from dramatic to sexy to loopy to unwavering to playful and all of it fits.

“The best part of watching the entries was seeing someone’s ideas of the song and of us filtered through who that person is and how they feel about the music,” says drummer Brian Chase. “And the other best part was the fancy footwork. Couldn’t call it dancing. Better than dancing. Depending.”

Tying all interpretations together is an enthusiasm apparent as Y3 wannabes let go to the music. From fan and band, who of course joins in. You can spot them among the doppelgangers. Or can you? See, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have been crazy busy bringing the sound of their new album, Show Your Bones, to the world and touring like mad. Look for them next at The San Diego Street Scene August 5 and at Brooklyn’s McCarren Pool Park show August 11/12 (with Sonic Youth) before embarking on a US tour later this year. Late Night with Conan O’Brien expects the Grammy-nominated YYY August 8, and yeah yeah yeah, that was them curating “All Tomorrow’s Parties” earlier this year.

So join in! Go ahead and check out the video that made it’s worldwide premier on Yahoo! Music (http://music.yahoo.com/) on Wednesday July 12th. Visit the YYY’s website (http://www.yeahyeahyeahs.com/) to see video outtakes from some select and inspired contest submissions. Hear ‘Show Your Bones’, the album Rolling Stone’s David Fricke calls “their true show of brass…above all a textural triumph” and of which URB magazine claims “defies expectations for even such an adventurous band (100 0f 100).” And that Sally Bonnett of Costa Mesa, exclaims is “really really really super good.”*

“Our fans are bad ass,” say Karen O. “It ruled to mix it up with them and get them in our video. They are so bigger than the sound!”

# # #

*did not make the “Cheated Hearts” video cut.
Disclaimer: all fancy footwork, fancy fashions and unadulterated fancy fun seen in the Yeah Yeah Yeahs’ new video, “Cheated Hearts,” are the sole responsibility of Y3 fans on the loose and in every way represent the opinions, feelings and attitude of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
