411 On The Independent Music Movement DVD series offers detailed instruction for independent artists on how to promote and sell music in the US and internationally. Music industry experts come together to offer guidance in the 6 hour, 3 disc series.

Aneel Robinson is the man behind the “411″ DVD. As a performing artist on tour, other musicians asked how he succeeded in the music industry himself. Aneel did encounter obstacles getting his own career up and running, producing CDs and organizing national tours. His experiences, good and bad, led him to produce the DVD series over the past 2 years.

The “411″ DVD provides insider knowledge on the music industry, enabling artists to get their music heard. There are more self-made artists today than ever before, and the competition is fierce. This DVD series gives the emerging musician a leg up on the competition. The DVD series offers instruction on music distribution, retailing and airplay, marketing, copywriting and how to set up your own business. Listen to the music industry experts’ advice and practical suggestions including Music Distributors such as Derek Sivers, of CDBaby.com, and International Distributors such as D.J. John Dean in the UK.

Look for the “411″ DVD through music distributors such as Midwest Tape, www.filmbaby.com , and Aneel’s web site at www.411onmusic.com.

Included in the DVD package are 3 discs, each with over 2 instruction hours, a music industry database including more than 9,000 contacts, and over 50 articles on music industry topics. The DVD series retail price is $49.95. For the next month, it is available at a discounted price of $29.95.

Aneel Robinson, of Music 4 Da Soul Records, is the creator and director of the “411″ DVD Series. You may know him from the Gavin Charts and winning the ‘Best R&B Album’ at the NORTHWEST MUSIC AWARDS. He has also produced 3 other CDs, with sales over 50,000, under the same label. You can also find Aneel on UK Solar Radio, where he hosts “The Juice”, featuring only independent artists.

Artist development and marketing firm MusicDish LLC has been selected by Canadian label Soundcheck Entertainment Records to support the development of The 7-Time JUNO Nominated Lorraine Reid and her new album “Lessons Learned.” The album represents significant soul searching on the part of the powerhouse vocalist of Temperance by establishing a more mature sound and reflecting the various challenges and changes Lorraine has endured to make this record a reality.

MusicDish will roll out a full online marketing campaign in support of the album and single “How Do I Keep Him,” while developing brand identity and creatives that reflects Lorraine’s new musical direction and growth. The mutli-pronged campaign will coordinate efforts on a variety of platforms, from MP3 blogs and webradio stations to social networking sites and genre-specific communities, combined with syndicated marketing and street teaming.

Lorraine Reid is perhaps best known as the former powerhouse vocalist of Temprance. Temperance fared extremely well in both the dance and mainstream markets, and can now boast more Juno nominations than any other dance group to date.

As the lead vocalist of Temperance, Lorraine earned 7 Juno Award nominations. Their first album, Virtues of Life, released in 1995, attained these incredible feats and much more. In 1996, the Canadian Euro dance group released a cover version of the song, “Forever Young,” which reached number 8 on the Canadian Dance Chart. The single, “Forever Young,” was also released in the United States in the summer of 1997, and immediately won the hearts of many new fans and critics south of the border. Their debut album featured 6 consecutive National Top Ten charting dance singles, and 4 MuchMusic Video Award nominations, which resulted in a 1994 MuchMusic Video Award. Along with a feature in Billboard Magazine in June 1998, their import follow-up single, “Lost In Love,” created immense anticipation for their second follow-up album release titled, If Yu Don’t Know.

Recording for the majority of 1999 yielded Temperance’s stronger sophomore album entitled, If You Don’t Know. This new album gained admiration from new fans, while maintaining a loyal pre-existing fan base who was excited to grow with Lorraine. Even before the release of the album title track, “If You Don’t Know,” Temperance had already garnered acclaim for their first single, “Hands of Time,” as it won a SOCAN Award for climbing to #1 on RPM’s Dance Chart. Its success continued and it cracked the Top 40 Radio Charts. The video for Hands of Time received nominations for both a Juno Award and a MuchMusic Video Award in 2001.

In the fall of 2005, Lorraine suffered a lengthy and extensive bout with hoarseness, including throat pain, which ultimately became complete laryngitis. She was diagnosed with vocal nodules and was advised to undergo the procedure to have them removed. The resulting nodule surgery meant learning to retrain her muscles for use, compensating for some loss in range, as well as the use of an amplification system when speaking publicly.

It is with great anticipation therefore that Lorraine’s new album, Lessons Learned is slated for release this spring. Listeners are sure to hear a more soulful and established Lorraine, as she provides a window into her heart by sharing her experiences that have made her the talented vocalist she is today.

MusicDish Network is the artist development department of MusicDish LLC, a leading music magazine publisher and marketing firm. Launched in 2001 as a marketing service for independent artists, MusicDish Network has grown into a complete artist development program, leveraging brand development, saturated and relationship marketing, digital distribution, event planning and industry outreach to support emerging artists and bands careers.

Randy, Paula and Simon are always talking about song selection, and the right choice can make all the difference - just ask Syesha. With the help of some top songwriters (”Love Is A Battlefield,” “I Wanna Dance With Somebody”), we choose specific songs that will wow the judges. Some of the advice:

http://www.songfacts.com/writing/2008/04/american-idol-song-selection.html

Make It Your Own - you probably don’t know who sang “I Can Dream About You,” which makes it a perfect choice.

Futz With The Arrangement - It worked for David Cook with “Billie Jean,” and it can work for lots of other songs, including “Torn” and “Bizarre Love Triangle.”

Avoid The Overdone - “Unchained Melody” has run its course.

Does a great Karaoke song translate to Idol? Not according to the folks who do it for a living. Kimberly Starling of The Karaoke Informer explains: “The typical good karaoke songs tend to lack the uniqueness needed for an Idol contestant to stand out.” Her list of songs that work in Karaoke but would bomb on Idol include “Friends In Low Places,” “Santeria,” and a surprising choice by The Ramones that works every time.

“With our collective reach, relationships, experience and desire to help the next generation of musicians, I believe MCMC will quickly become the ‘go to’ place for artists who are committed to getting to that next level because our focus is about providing tangible, usable feedback along with result-driven marketing, says Eric Kline, producer/director and founder of the Inside the Music Business brand of products and services. “I’m really excited about joining forces with Serchlite Music and the Music Dish Network, two companies that I have tremendous respect for and who continually make things happen for artists - a tall order in today’s changing music business climate.”

“The Music Consulting and Marketing Collective is a new and exciting venture for Serchlite and I share a vision of representing and connecting with the independent artist, the hip-hop culture and the community in an honest and responsible way,” says CC Carnie. “This partnership with Inside the Music Business and Music Dish is a natural business pairing. I look forward to sharing ideas and breaking new ground once again in a new area. We are not looking to just have another marketing company, we are looking to perfect our relationship with indie artist and the music consumer.”

Artist development and marketing firm MusicDish LLC has been selected by Toronto-based Pop/Rock musician Peter Bloom to provide artist development support, including full online marketing, brand management and industry outreach in North America.

MusicDIsh will initially focus on internet marketing, from consistently developing brand messaging and creatives that reflect Peter Bloom s rich lyrics and music, reinforced by a mutli-pronged online marketing campaign, to fan building and viral distribution. MusicDish will also develop a strategic business plan encompassing all aspects of his career, from financing to international markets.

Drawing emotional strength and wisdom from his own powerful personal life experiences, Bloom offers Random Thoughts (from a paralyzed mind), his insightful, musically and lyrically compelling debut that chronicles his dramatic shift from years of self-doubt (and physical problems with his voice) to his current emergence as a critically acclaimed, award winning artist and performer.

His newly assembled band s first gig in December 2007 at The Cameron House — one of the city s hip musical venues — saw many fans lining up after the show to buy CDs and get autographs. One review described Bloom s live performance as “pure heart and raw energy.” Since then, Peter Bloom Band has twice played Toronto hotspot, The Horseshoe, sharing the bill with UK sensation, Newton Faulkner, on one occasion. PBB also headlined for a very receptive crowd of over 850 people at a benefit show for D.A.N.I. (Developing and Nurturing Individuals), a local organization that raises money to help special needs people become more independent. That night, PBB shared the stage with the inspirational up-and-coming songwriter, Justin Hines. People everywhere are finding themselves inspired by Bloom s heartfelt reflections on breaking through the “Walls” (one of the more poignant tracks on the album) that prevent us from living life to it s fullest.

Individual tracks from Random Thoughts have already dominated a handful of high profile competitions in his home base of Ontario and beyond. The opening track “Let It Go” was chosen last August as “Song of the Month” in the pop category for the international Song Of The Year competition, automatically entering it in the running for Song of the Year. Bloom won two 2007 Toronto Exclusive Music Awards, for Best Rock Song (”Helping Hand”) and Best Rock Group; was nominated for a 2007 Ontario Independent Music Award for Best Rock Song (”Walls”); and was runner-up in both the regional Radio Star 2007 (99.9 Mix FM) and the Toronto Indie Week 2006 singer/songwriter competitions. That same year, he also won Honorable Mention in the Billboard World Song Contest.

http://www.myspace.com/peterbloommusic

What the reviewers are saying:

“Peter Bloom is a singer-songwriter who learned all the right lessons from John, George, Ringo and especially Paul - not to mention Elton John and John (Five For Fighting) Ondrasik. This is simply gorgeous piano/orchestral-based pop, carried to the next level by Bloom s insightful lyrics and full-bodied melodic sensibilities.” Jason Warburg, The Daily Vault

“Random Thoughts is a perfect go-to CD for the days you need a friend, a voice to help carry you through the storm and a cocoon in which to wrap up in until the sun comes out again.” Pitch Perfect Reviews

“Random Thoughts (From A Paralyzed Mind)” may be the bandÕs first full length, but the maturity exhibited will easily fool individuals into thinking that this is their fourth or fifth album.” Neufutur Magazine

“Earnest as a Toronto winter day is short, Bloom makes sweeping piano pop redolent of late Beatles ballads or Chris Martin at his most thoughtful.” Download.Com - Editor s Review

ABOUT THE ARTIST
In October of 2005, a very fine musician from Germany ( Gunnar Spardel of Tigerforest ) caught Amethyste’s attention. One of his wonderful song “Summer Rain” was playing on the player and she HAD to click on the “view” button. Suddenly, she was transported into a new dimension where music has a soul and feelings. A place where she secretly wanted to reach for so long… She was compelled to write him a note telling him how wonderful and beautiful his music was. He replied to her later that day that he really liked her voice and if she was interested into collaborating musically to please let him know. She was mostly surprised that he replied to her kind message because she felt that his compositions were just so spectacular, somewhat intimidating at the same time.

It seems that everything took an uplifting turn in 2006 when Gunnar and Amethyste started to collaborate more extensively on several projects ranging from Trance - Dance to Ambient. They finally decided to meet in February of 2006 in NYC, then shortly after their first meeting, Gunnar came to spend 3 months in the USA focusing on music composition and production. Their love for each other fueled the creation of Amethyste’s debut CD titled “Ethereal”. Gunnar’s extreme composing ability really showcases Amethyste’s soothing and dreamy ample vocal range. The beautiful music that Amethyste and Gunnar Spardel create have been heard in radio stations in Europe as well as many internet radios. Ethereal warms the heart and shines light upon their acclaimed and distinctive style of music.

MUSIC QUOTES
Delicate and sublime with a stirring of ecstasy dancing over a driving powerful intoxication is what you will find if you listen to Amethyste’s masterpiece – “Ethereal“. If you listen to the album from start to finish you will first encounter silky washes of sound with ethereal vocals. Floating on air is the feeling that Amethyste creates as soulful and ethereal voices of the mysteries above and below soar across an ocean of stars into a celestial downtempo mood. “Ethereal” goes beyond inspiration to new levels of creativity where modern technology and ancient longings collide. At times it is crystalline perfection and at others the warm sounds completely surround you enveloping you in a dreamy haze. Behind the scene of “Ethereal” is also the magnificent composer Gunnar Spardel, who lays down a set of deep ambient beats that creates a tantalizing ebb and flow of exotic sexy moods as a magical calm is unveiled by a journey within the smooth grooves. Amethyste is one of the most profound influences over mainstream Chill out artists, through a new, innovative artistic panache.

The Internet-based Jimmy Bruno Guitar Institute (JBGI) announces that it has quadrupled in size, in just the last six months, to over 1350 paying students. Originally designed for 350 students, the JBGI has shattered all enrollment projections since opening in May 2007. “The growth has been phenomenal and gratifying”, says Affiliated Artists CEO and JBGI co-founder David Butler. “Now that guitarists know Jimmy Bruno’s unique and effective guitar method is available online, it has spread like wildfire.”

Jimmy Bruno’s New Worldwide Reach
Although never his intent, Jimmy Bruno may now be the most influential jazz guitar teacher in history, with students from 40 countries around the world under his direct supervision. Additionally, the JBGI student-body includes a large number of guitar teachers, who with Mr. Bruno’s permission and encouragement are in turn teaching Jimmy’s method to their students. Also, guitarists from areas of the world where there is no jazz instruction at all are converging on the JBGI to learn to play jazz correctly from an American jazz master.

Capacity concerns
Rapid communication amongst the close-knit guitar community, as well as open access to Jimmy Bruno has created a very large influx of students to the JBGI. Addressing concerns that the JBGI may be nearing capacity, Mr. Butler said, “It is true that we reduced our advertising while we regrouped, but we are committed to making the JBGI experience very high quality and it will continue to be available to all motivated students until our new technology is maximized.”

Innovation To Enable Broad Expansion
Empowered by proprietary video technology from JBGI parent company Affiliated Artists, Mr. Bruno interacts continuously with the JBGI student-body. To keep pace with projected growth, a new generation video management system is in the late stages of development at Affiliated Artists, to be deployed later this month. “The new system automates much of the technical stuff, freeing me to spend more of my time with the students and focus on their progress,” said Mr. Bruno. Mr. Butler adds, “The new Student Video Management System will increase JBGI’s capacity to over 4000 students, roughly two years of projected growth.”

Groundbreaking Approach - Hundreds of “Virtual” Master Classes
A large part of the success of the JBGI is the result of jazz guitar master Jimmy Bruno’s “firsthand” interaction with JBGI students. Unlike static online sites, JBGI students receive direct and continuing guidance from Mr. Bruno through video interchanges, which keeps them on track. This interaction is in the form of “Master Classes”, an exchange of videos between students and Mr. Bruno. An added bonus is being able to watch him evaluate hundreds of fellow students via video. This combination brings a depth of knowledge unmatched in any other music instruction approach. There are currently over 450 Master Classes posted on the JBGI, with more added each week.

A Continuation of New Lesson Materials
Since the JBGI opened its door 10 months ago, the amount of lesson material has gone from around 70 formal lesson videos to well over 500 videos, including hundreds of “Master Classes”, and dozens of educational and entertainment videos. The JBGI recently added an adjunct faculty member, Philadelphia-based blues guitarist Johnny DeFrancesco, who created new JBGI course materials that focus on blues and blues-oriented rock.

The JBGI Sports A New Look
In addition to an under-the-covers technology overhaul, the Jimmy Bruno Guitar Institute has just been given a new look. Designed by Grammy-winning designer Jack Frisch, the new look enhances JBGI’s leading edge music instruction mission and signals yet another phase of continued growth for the Institute.

ANN ARBOR, MI - As the Great Lakes Songwriting Contest celebrates its fifth year of operations, the entry fee has been lowered and the Grand Prize increased.

http://www.GreatLakesSongs.com

This year, the Grand Prize will be $2,000 cash, plus tuition, room and board at a music retreat, plus a chance to headline the Winners’ Concert in February 2009. And entrants can choose to enter by mail or on-line, thanks to a partnership with indie music promoter Sonic Bids.

The contest is open to songwriters of all ages and all musical styles in the eight states and one Canadian province that border the Great Lakes: Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New York, and the Province of Ontario, Canada. Songwriters give up no rights to their songs as a condition of entering or winning. Eleven winning songs will be chosen in 2008. Entries must be postmarked on or before Friday, April 25, 2008.

“A lot of great music has come out of our part of the world, from Motown to Prairie Home Companion to Chicago Blues and Broadway,” says contest spokesman Bill Frank. “It’s produced big names like Bob Dylan, Prince, Madonna, the Barenaked Ladies, and Jars of Clay, just to name a few. But some of the best music is written by the locally known, little-known, and unknown songwriters, and that’s what we’re looking for.”

Past winners have included an organic farmer from rural Michigan, a retired Marine Corps captain from Minneapolis, a Chicago novelist, a former child actress, and numerous high-school and college students. Winning songs have ranged from hard-rock instrumentals to jazz, country, folk, R&B, Christian, and various hybrids. For the past several years, the top winners have performed at sold-out crowds at the Winners’ Concert series at the Trinity House Theatre in Livonia, MI.

Past judges have included Andrea Stolpe, hit songwriter, author, and instructor for the Berklee College of Music’s on-line songwriting program; Freebo, the singer-songwriter and long-time bass player for Bonnie Raitt; Chicago’s Rich Warren, host of the syndicated radio show “The Midnight Special;” Nadir, the MTV host, author and prizewinning songwriter; and Toronto’s Jodi Krangle, proprietress of “The Muse’s Muse” songwriters’ website and electronic newsletter. The 2008 judges will be announced when the winners are announced, in October 2008.

Contest entrants are not forced to pick a particular category for their songs. Each song is judged on its own merits, not by how well it conforms to the conventions of a certain genre of music. Rules, entry forms, and information on last year’s winners and judges can be found on the contest website, http://www.GreatLakesSongs.com

The contest is sponsored by Songbridge, the song marketing company based in Ontario, Canada, which provides a weekly pitch sheet to its songwriting members and a free e-newsletter with tips and insights on marketing; Elderly Instruments of Lansing (MI), one of America’s largest mail order suppliers of vintage and new stringed instruments; Lamb’s Retreat for Songwriters of Royal Oak (MI), which holds songwriting weekends in Northern Michigan; and the CD Seller of Minneapolis, an online company that has created a CD selling tool for independent performers. The contest is organized by The Michigan Songwriters, the Ann Arbor-based cooperative that previously sponsored the Metro Detroit and Michigan Songwriting Contests. The contest has drawn about 500 entries each year since its founding in 2003.
