This is not unexpected, as Imre spazzed out during recording session. Both the lead guitarist and bass guitarist left Monday night, July 14, 2008 after Imre was working out some vocal parts for the upcoming cd/dvd release for November 15, 2008.

Apparently later in the evening, Imre was singing the verses while laying on the floor by the piano. He was singing, then he got up and walked out the door down the hall while still singing and grasping the microphone. Something was really strange. After Imre didn’t return, the engineer looked outside and behind the studio in the field was Imre still singing and holding the microphone. The engineer tried tugging the microphone cord, but he was scared. The engineer went on to say “I wasn’t sure what to do, I didn’t know if he was a sane man.”

I asked the engineer how he thought the upcoming release was coming along. He said, “it’s coming along, slowly but really good. There’s so much different stuff, each song is like a movie, really interesting project to be working on.

Keep a watch on this band, they’re incredible…and I mean it!

Kevin Jon (KJ) overcomes adversity to become the UK’s new music sensation

Deep Within the Skin single digital release date: 14th July 2008

Pop / RnB sensation KJ is set to release his first single ‘Deep Within the Skin’ this July, on the fledgling Savage Trax label, almost against the odds.

The immensely-talented singer and producer long-harboured a dream of turning professional from an early age, self-producing over 250 tracks, writing thousands of lyrics, and playing his songs to close family and friends, but all the time agonising over playing in public. The fear became so great that KJ began getting panic attacks and even finding it difficult to leave the house. Kevin himself admits:

“At the time I didn’t realise and I didn’t get any help, so it developed. The panic attacks turned into depression and sometimes just going to the supermarket was difficult.”

Searching for ways to combat his fears, KJ began to write about how he felt and was finally persuaded to upload his tracks to MySpace where they caught the eyes and ears of SavageTrax boss Kevin Savage, who immediately signed him up for a £1m, 4-album deal. The deal changed everything overnight, giving KJ a new-found boost of confidence, enough to get up on stage and perform in front of 25,000 people at 2007’s Cardiff Mardi Gras.

Realising how empowering overcoming such an adversity can be, KJ and the mental health charity ‘No Panic’ have joined forces in an effort to reach sufferers who still shy away from seeking help. As a Patron of ‘No Panic’, KJ hopes to inspire sufferers to come forward as he did, proving that it is possible to beat a panic disorder.

‘Deep Within the Skin’ showcases KJ’s love of 80’s pop, hip hop and R & B, indeed it’s no surprise that KJ has been compared to a British Justin Timberlake, and with a reverential nod to studio maestro Timberland very apparent within the production. Due to be released on all major download sites, the single is backed up by 4 killer club remixes by a crop of producers renowned for their dancefloor-destroying productions.

First up is GRN, aka DJ and Producer Glen Nicholls, who has just topped the Buzz Chart with a remix of the Champion Classic ‘Show Me Love’ by Robin S and has been busy remixing the Yazoo comeback project after numerous chart-topping remixes for Depeche Mode, The Prodigy, Sander Kleinberg and Bomb the Bass. 7th Heaven have produced a breezy club version that compliments their remix roster for the likes of Booty Luv, The Ting Tings, The Freemasons and Eric Prydz. The House Junkies add a touch of their floor-filling electro house style that’s been consistently wowing crowds at the Heaven nightclub in London. Finally John-e Jay, a talented Club DJ/Producer from Worcester, puts in a seriously wonky bass rework very much in the Sinden vein.

It just goes to show, fear need never get in the way of dreams.

ARTIST DESCRIPTION

Founded in 2001, Gravity Co. started out as a side project, working on the soundtrack to the computer game Trans, side project turned to full-time and they haven’t looked back since.

In early 2002 Gravity Co. made their debut, releasing their first single ‘Away’ accompanied by an art-school style video directed by Gravity Co.’s Producer Georgi Stanev. The bands first try topped MM TV’s (Bulgaria’s most popular music television) International Airplay Chart, holding on to the #1 spot for three consecutive weeks. ‘Away’ would later be included in NovaXposure - the monthly compilation released by ‘Radio Ventures’ with songs by Elton John, Sarah Connor, Alcazar and others.

Gravity’s second single ‘Mr. No One’ would set the critics straight, as to the bands potential, taking a play-list space in BMG’s official weekly video compilation, alongside Carlos Santana and Christina Aguilera.

The band stretched the boundaries further when Bill Withers granted official permission to record and release a cover version of his all time classic ‘Ain’t No Sunshine.

‘Away’, ‘Mr. No One’ and ‘Ain’t No Sunshine’ all made the cut for Gravity Co.’s highly anticipated debut album ‘U’ released December 13th 2002. Gravity, have since been identified by an original electro pop sound, with warm vocal melodies over pumping electro beats.

An instant success, ‘U’ brought home the first music awards - ‘Best Debut’ and ‘Best Pop/Dance Album’, from MM TV’s annual awards (the Bulgarian equivalent of the Brits).

Having released two celebrated albums, known for their engaging stage antics - performing full capacity venues and supporting the likes of the Stereo MC’s, Fun Lovin’ Criminals and more recently Ladytron - Gravity Co. teamed up with a wide range of popular Bulgarian DJ’s to remix some of the band’s hits.

AWARDS

- ‘Best Debut’ and ‘Best Pop/Dance Album’, from MM TV’s annual awards (the Bulgarian equivalent of the Brits).
- Holding on to the #1 spot for three consecutive weeks in the MM TV’s (Bulgaria’s most popular music television) International Airplay Chart.
- ‘Wings’, the first video by a Bulgarian Artist with airplay on MTV! Boasting Giorgio de Chirico inspired 3D animation - courtesy of one of Bulgaria’s finest Alexander Sokerov - ‘Wings’ would be played 13 weeks running on MTV’s World Chart Express.
- ‘Best Band’ from the annual MM TV awards of 2005. An additional ‘Band of the Year’ award was presented by Melo TV Mania’s annual awards.
- ‘Best Rock/Alternative Song’ for ‘What I Want’ (‘Instinct’ 2005) from the annual MM TV awards 2006
- On the 25 of March 2007, minutes before taking the stage to contribute a mind-blowing ‘Empty World’ against a multi-media frenzy, on the night of the BG Radio Music Awards Ceremony, the boys were called to the stage to collect the ‘Best Band Award’.
- Gravity Co. are the uncontested winners at the MMTV Music Awards, with the record 4 statuettes:
Best Pop/Dance song - Empty World
Best Pop/Dance Album - Mixedup
Best Band
Best Music Video - Empty World /Directed by Valeri Milev/

MUSIC QUOTES

The debut album “U” by the most successive Bulgarian’s band Gravity Co. is from those releases that on the first listen, you knew something amazing was happening but didn’t quite grasp it. By the second listen, you are hooked. By the third, fourth, and fifth listens, you realized you had stumbled upon a rare gem. The album range somewhere, between pop and electronic music with eminent contemporary elements, which sometimes even goes beyond the expectations. But to those with patience and an ear for the sublime, this will become one of the most rewarding and satisfying electronica albums of the decade. The sheer talent in this record is staggeringly high. Not only these guys have reached a new tier of studio production and aesthetic precision, but on top of that, the vocals are truly incredible. More importantly, it’s noticeable in the sequencing and mastering of each perfectly-layered sound. Listen on a solid, high-end system, and all the textures will open up and dance across the room in perfect balance. “U” has achieved a new level of greatness and this is easily some of the best music albums you could have in your collection.
- AMAdea Records, BULGARIA

Audioporn - The Watershed, Wimbledon

If you are off to Glastonbury this year, you are in for a real treat. If you do nothing else, you must check out this band, who are just awesome.

Attending an Audioporn gig is like no other that you will have been to. At present they are promoting their current album “A Message from our Sponsor” which collectively spins a lyrical tale from start to finish of modern day culture that will have us all reflecting on the world we live in. If you have had enough of X-Factor, boy bands, politicians and commercialism, then this is the band for you. This band rock with a capital R.

Influences are readily taken from Talking Heads, Frank Zappa, The Clash, Bootsy Collins, Kraftwerk, Clockwork Orange and David Bowie and thrown into a mixing bowl with a heavy helping of whit, cynicism and style to reveal the delicious cocktail which is Audioporn.

Their gig on Friday saw hardened fans and newcomers alike gather like moths to a lantern and were not disappointed. A slick and theatrical performance was given by lead singer and guitarist Ade Man with lyrics and guitar playing which will hold you mesmerised. Unlike most bands, centre stage is held by Deep Pete, who from his lofty height threw down Thor like bass lines. The groove is held tightly in place by Che Man, a drummer who’s skill is reminiscent of the great Keith Moon, with the all important keyboards held down by Lucy 9mm providing atmosphere and mood to complete the package.

The finale showcased a new track from the bands forthcoming album which left the audience wishing away their summer in the hope of an Autumn release.

Go and see this band. You will not be disappointed.

Ian Cognito.

This summer come witness the return of the illest artist in modern day entertainment. The multi talented, Brooklyn based producer and singer Tah Mac, has stepped off his home turf in the USA to give the UK some of the freshest, most talked about tunes this side of the Atlantic.
Time of My Life is the debut single taken from the much anticipated album, Welcome 2 Tahland and this summer it looks set to sizzle! Time… an uplifting, feel good summer track, also lays down the ground work for Tah’s inevitable invasion of the UK charts. Tah Mac’s latest full length effort features a veritable A List of old school talent and rising stars. No stranger to quality and style, the man from NYC has secured the likes Mutya Buena, C.A.S.H and Gnarls Barkley to give the album a knockout punch.
With a decade of experience under his belt, Tah knows how to create the very best music with top quality artiste. Not one to be pigeon holed, Tah has worked with diverse array of artists from Erick Sermon, Javine, Ciara, Onyx, Leona Lewis, Redman and Aretha Franklin to The Charlatans. Often describing his sound as a ‘global sound’, Tah has finally crafted a sound that is uniquely his own.

So watch out for Tah Mac as he brings his spectacular live show and killer bag of tunes over to the UK this year!

Thebrotheregg perform sunny music with surgical focus and the up beat feel of homegrown psychedelic pop nuggets. The band has been delivering their underground gems to fans who embrace the group with cult-like ownership for over 10 years. They make mountains of sound emanating bright beams of lyrical imagery and a continuous inquiry into sound and emotion, appealing to sources both earthly and otherwise.

The latest release by the group, an eponymous ep (cd & 45rpm 12” vinyl available from the band’s own Dandelion Wine imprint) features a further evolution and refinement of the bands previous sojourns into the ‘baroque rock’ (Dancing Satan and Simple Love) with some new heavier material (Blueberries, Daylight, and Elevators) reminiscent of late 80’s/early 90’’skate rock’, and a return to some of their rootsiest material (Simpleton) since 2001’s “Billy Barty’s Brains.” This new album has waltzes, run on sentence melodic lyricism, and crazy excellent musicianship, so it must be thebrotheregg, but with a new found clarity and brevity un-hinted at in their previous releases.

Thebrotheregg is the enduring brainchild of Adam Goldman who considers himself the orchestrator or perhaps coordinator of the project, keeping it alive since it’s humble beginnings in the early 1990’s. Goldman’s music both sonically and lyrically demonstrate a heavy reliance upon dreams and dreamlike states, trances, hallucinations, visions, epiphanies, ecstasies, passion, speaking in tongues, UFOs, delusions, contusions, paranoia, monsters, magic spells, drunken idiocy, love, lucid rationality, plate tectonics, inventions, technology, vitamins, pollution, the opposite of pollution, morbid obsession, stunted emotional growth and arrested development, voodoo hexes, aphrodisiacs, prophecy, serendipity, irony, insomnia, bingeing, fasting, and finally: LIVING!

Settling in Portland, Oregon in 1996, thebrotheregg took root and exploded with vast prolific offerings over the next decade. They have appeared on countless underground compilations and a wave of self-produced bizarre cassette releases. Accustomed to self-releasing their own recordings, thebrotheregg were finally “discovered” by the Bevis Frond’s Nick Saloman in 2001 who used all sorts of flowery and enthusiastic vocabulary to describe their album “Snowflake and Fingerprint Machine” as a psychedelic pop masterpiece. Soloman’s Woronzow label released “Snowflake” in England and licensed the album to Rubric Records (home of Mary Lou Lord and Gogol Bordello among others) in the states. “Snowflake and Fingerprint Machine” still remains a triumphant statement of dark psychedelic pop.

In 2005, thebrotheregg released “Aortica Mor”, a 17-song epic on Montana’s Bingo Lady Records in the spirit of prolific maximalism. Not only did this release clock in at nearly 80 minutes, but it contained a Noah’s Arc of pop ideas at every volume and in every meter.

thebrotheregg have emerged as American savant outsiders determined to achieve cult status with a voice both raw and otherworldly in attitude. Over the years, thebrotheregg have received critical praise at home and internationally for their contribution to the new wave of independent rock.links:

With a massively successful touring history and critically acclaimed album under their belt, the Seckou Keita SKQ are proud to announce the release of their new studio album ‘The Silimbo Passage’, alongside an eagerly anticipated extensive UK tour, kicking off in May. The tour showcases part of the ongoing evolution of their unique sound that derives from the group’s heart - Seckou Keita himself.
The Seckou Keita SKQ are one of the fastest growing, independent bands du jour, captivating audiences from Montreal to Manchester, Sweden to Senegal. Their forthcoming album is already garnering international attention as the band has received an ‘Honourable Mention’ in the Instrumental category after being nominated as one of 15 finalists worldwide at the International Songwriting Competition. The Seckou Keita SKQ possess a unique ability to touch every one who experiences their sound, making it easy to see how they are amassing fans worldwide with their captivating, contemporary music.
Hailing from Senegal, Italy, Egypt and The Gambia, this multi-national band are an exciting fusion of culture and experience. Counting Richard Bona, Bela Fleck and Bobby McFerrin amongst his influences, Seckou Keita leads the quartet with his experimental tunings and virtuoso kora playing (a West African stringed instrument likened to the harp or the lute). His charismatic personality is portrayed through his unique improvisational playing, supported by the double bass/electric bass of Davide Mantovani, the eclectic percussions of Surahata Susso, the distinguished sound of the violin by Samy Bishai and enchanting voice of the gracious Binta Susso - the newest addition to the band, turning the quartet into a quintet!
Distinguishing Seckou Keita from other world musicians, is his very own inimitable tunings, making him one of the most innovative and creative known kora players in the world today. These new tunings are showcased on SKQ’s latest album ‘The Silimbo Passage’, which creates a fresh sound and shifts SKQ into a music category all of their own.
Championing ‘eco-friendliness’ through CO2 Balance UK, SKQ are minimising their carbon emissions and offsetting their unavoidable CO2 residue by produced all their material on recycled paper or paper from sustained forests. By offsetting emissions the band have been able to donate money towards East Africa Energy Efficiency and contribute to tree planting in the UK.

With continuing funding from Arts Council England, the band have added a number of key dates to their tour, including a eagerly anticipated support slot to the Grammy-award winning Miriam Makeba, favourably known as ‘Mama Africa’ at the Brighton Festival which celebrates her 75th birthday! Other exciting dates include the Guardian Hay Festival, and London’s revered Jazz Cafe, as well as planned gigs in Italy and Japan later this year.
Notes to Editor:
Originally the Seckou Keita Quartet, the group are now called the Seckou Keita SKQ since the arrival of Binta Suso to the band making them a quintet!
The Seckou Keita SKQ UK Tour is kindly supported by the PRS Foundation for new music.
The Seckou Keita SKQ helps to stay green with www.co2balance.uk.com.
The Seckou Keita SKQ consists of-
Seckou Keita
(composition/kora/voice)
Seckou Keita was born in Ziguinchor, Senegal on 14 February 1978 in a griot family (hereditary musicians). It was under the guidance of his uncle Solo Cissokho that Keita launched his international career in 1996, with appearances at Norway’s Forde Festival in a successful collaboration with Cuban, Indian and Scandinavian musicians.
In the years that followed, Keita relocated to the UK, while touring regularly in Spain, France, Portugal, Greece and Czech Republic as well as playing at such prestigious festivals as Womad and Glastonbury, both as a solo musician, and in collaboration with acclaimed figures like Indian violinist Dr L Subrimaniam.
He became a member of the popular world music group Baka Beyond in 1998, contributing to their well-received East To West album, and in 2000 began to record his own solo debut Baiyo (retitled Mali for a later release through Arc Music), which encompassed his musical journey to that date, from Africa to Europe, via India.
With support slots to luminaries like Salif Keita and Youssou N’Dour, solo slots at London’s Jazz Café and at Ireland’s Sacred Music Festival, and a nomination in 2001 for BBC Radio 3’s prestigious World Music Award, it’s clear that Keita’s many collaborations have fed and extended rather than diluted the African mainspring of his music.
This is why Keita’s current project, the Seckou Keita SKQ seems so exciting, drawing together a group of musicians from disparate origins, who nonetheless superbly complement one another. The richly layered songs on Seckou Keita SKQ’s pasr Tama-Silo album range from the haunting African Soul of ‘Tounga’ to upbeat floor-fillers like ‘Sina Mory’ and ‘N’fa Quartet’. With over 100 live performances, their sound becomes incredibly tight and original.
A brilliant performer, Seckou also likes to share with people. His education work is less known to the public but is real. He regularly runs drumming and kora workshops in schools, arts centres, festivals working with organisations such as Music For change, Creative Partnerships and Womad.
Finally, he is also a regular guest leader for Sewabeat company who offers alternative training package for Commercial Corporations.
Binta Suso
Voice
Born in the Gambia in a griot family (hereditary musicians), Binta started singing at an early age. She toured the UK in 2003 and 2004 as part of Jalikunda Cissokho’s. Then she went on an international exchange programme to study at the Sund Folk in Norway.
She sang “Tounga” on Seckou Keita SKQ’s album. Her voice, which gives new rich colours to the band, attracted praises from press and media.
In early 2006 she returned to her native country and started working with various Gambian artists from traditional to hip hop style. She joined Seckou Keita SKQ in their 2006/07 Senegalese and Gambian’s tour.
Davide Mantovani
Double Bass/Electric bass
Born in Ferrara, Italy, Davide took up the bass in 1982, after early training on piano and guitar, and in 1991 relocated to London. He has since built a formidable reputation as both performer and composer. His own jazz quintet’s Square One album was issued in 2001, and an experimental collaboration with violinist Roberto Manes led to the release of Polaris in 2004. He has also been in demand as a composer of soundtracks and incidental music, with Drawing Horizons receiving a commercial release in 2002, and commissions from artists of the stature of Shobana Jeyasingh and George Eugene to his credit. He travelled to Senegal with Seckou Keita to study Mbalah rhythms in 2002, and his double bass has been a key component of the Quintet from the start.
Samy Bishai
Violin
Samy grew up in Alexandria, Egypt, and received a classical training on the violin. He began to play professionally at 18, working with Alexandria Chamber Orchestra while maintaining a lively interest in Arabic pop and jazz. In 2000 he moved to London, and has since forged a career as a live session player in fields as diverse as jazz, pop, electronica and hip-hop. He has recorded string arrangements for releases by artists like Terry Hall, Mushtaq, Lemar and Tyler James, and has also scored a short film, The Bridge. He joined the Seckou Keita SKQ in 2005, stepping into the shoes of Riti player Juldeh Camara, whose inspiration on his own distinctive sound within the group he is quick to acknowledge.
Surahata Susso
Percussions
Sura is a young percussionist and kora player from The Gambia, a member of the well-known Susso griot family. He has been a member of Gambia’s acclaimed Kaira Youth Band for many years, and more recently branched out with his own Fisco Band. More recently, he has started working with askewandavis, a band that combines looping and vocal experimentation.
He was invited to join the Acoustic Vibes tour in 2004, and currently divides his time between The Seckou Keita SKQ’s work, to whose sound he brings a highly distinctive blend of African and Cuban percussion styles, and his own musical projects in The Gambia.
