ARTIST DESCRIPTION

In 1998 four guys from Sofia, Bulgaria started a band and named it Daily Noise Club. Now, 10 years later, lot of club gigs and fest appearances, debut album - “Dirty Dress” (D.N.C./043) 2002, and a single - “Let Us” (D.N.C. music) 2004, they are still here looking forward! Up to this day Daily Noise Club finished their second album “Next Level”.

They were opening act for Anthrax in 2003 and Megadeth in 2005 for their shows in Sofia (Bulgaria), and also did a lot of tours with the independent bands like Soleilnoir (Germany), Voodoo Healers (Greece), Bubblegum Screw (UK) and Black Magic Six (Finland).

Playing high energy, passionate and loud rock Daily Noise Club can always make you fit into the right mood for a jump & shout type of party! This is the feeling they deliver and you get at their shows, proving that rock music is the ultimate time machine, even now in 21st century!

MUSIC QUOTES

“Next Level” as a disc, is a strange beast indeed. The only really common thread throughout the album is a high level of energy, the pieces move from mood to mood and sound to sound, whether it be angry and explosive (opener “Next Level”), ecstatic and energetic (”Above”), a slow burn buildup to explosion (”I See (What You See)”) or positively mournful and troubled (”Dead Gent”). One thing that probably hurt this album considerably was that the sound/style is difficult to pigeon-hole. While that is all well and good for a listener, that did not sit well with radio. You were either grunge or you weren’t. But this album is probably the most successful example of blurring the lines. The sound of the Daily Noise Club is still rooted in early 1980s glam/alternative but the distorted guitars have been slimmed down to a more subtle production. In other words, it’s heavy music performed softly. Although the CD is full of contradictions that do not bode well for popular music, still it shows another musical aspect of the rock music, that reveals its beauty after listening to it several times.

The Tea Club sounds like a perfectly innocent and unassuming name but do not let the serene CD cover and band name fool you. As you will learn when you open up the General Winter’s Secret Museum CD the sleeve enclosed and the artwork does get a bit more interesting and the lyrics are included to set your mind reeling.

This band sings and plays with ferocity and purpose. While only three members comprise this progressive rock unit, they sound like much more. A full sound comes at you constructed with guitars, drums, and bass as it swoops down and sucks you into every hair-raising storyline. The Tea Club is Patrick McGowan (vocals, bass, and guitar) with Brother Dan (vocals, guitar) and Kyle Minnick (drums).

As things kick off the album you are immediately brought into the macabre with “Werewolves.” This is a potent tool for mesmerizing you and creating interest and excitement about what you are hearing while intently listening to their own personal take on the legendary transformation from man to beast. Guitars, bass and drums thunder as Pat McGowan bellows “I just need a little time, this is my Mr. Hyde…well I am down and I am wearin’ thin, I can’t help but keep hurting you”, as the words roll off his tongue they cut like a knife right through you. As all of this unfolds, all I can think of is a Halloween night where The Beatles meet King Crimson and they start jamming. This vision kept coming to me throughout the run of this CD. Low and behold, their biggest influences happen to be two of the bands I just mentioned, so there is no shock here, just a bit of validation from the perspective of a listener and music fan. This was the best song on the album and marvelous way to introduce themselves to potential listeners while simultaneously creating some interest to hear more.

I bet some of you are wondering where they came up with the title for the album. I am always pondering what the title and artwork mean. If it is not obvious and in this case, that applies, you have to wonder what the significance is and just how it all ties in to the big picture of a project. The term General Winter, is a name used for the horrible weather the Germans experienced while trying to invade Russia in World War 2. Pat McGowan then added in the rest of the title and the band loved it.

The title track of all things gets the boot because the band thought it did not flow with the rest of the album. In this case, they should have put it at the close of the album and I do not think removing that track was the best decision.

At times, they do pull off some beautiful Beatles like harmonizing so the thought process may have been that this would easily cross over to pop-rock territory. Regardless of those elements, the fans that listen to this music expect bombastic opuses lasting 7-12 minutes, it is the norm, the music is far from being top forty or pop and it does not take long after hearing the way the tracks come at you that they are doing their best to make a progressive album. If you want to hear the title track then visit the band’s profile here http://mybandsmusic.com/members/680/ where you actually can listen to 15 tracks with the option to purchase and find out for yourself where they are coming from. If anything, it entices people to go check it out, so that is a positive gained from a somewhat odd decision to eliminate the title track.

Getting back to the rest of the album-it is solid, not a great piece of work but very good and this band has the potential to be great. What I heard was a steady blend of music that did tend to go back and forth in waves of varying sounds and emotions, which is the standard for the genre. The variations with rhythms, beats and guitars are interesting and definitely not something that you would hear on the radio…there are no 4/4 time syncopations or drum click tracks buzzing in the ear of their drummer, no way. Besides the lead off track, this album did tend to flow together too easily from track to track for this type of music.

What I think needs work here is to develop more complexity with the song structures they already have, which are excellent, by simply adding some layered keyboards or a driving Hammond B3 on a regular basis. With that, the entire picture could change and they may very well become the band they always dreamed of being. Again, this is just the beginning for them and it is a real good start. They wrote all the songs, which is impressive. For three people they make some noise and it will remind you fondly of some other great trios that have come and gone since the inception of progressive rock. They reached their goal to get a stripped down sound removing things like a flute and so forth. Perhaps on the next outing those things will remain with additional instruments to beef up their sound and then they will blossom, as I would expect.

Alex Rosselli has reached another level of creativity and conceptual artistry on his new release 2012. After listening to this interesting and entertaining recording of instrumental rock, fusion, and progressive amalgamations, it seems all of the albums prior to this were developmental, leading to the current creation and metamorphosis of this incredibly talented artist.

In discussion with Alex, I discovered that he went through a very deep and insightful thought process while recording this album. He wanted to produce a concept album and the first recordings started in late 2006 and then ended in July 2007.

Alex read many things about the year 2012 including information about the Mayan Calendar, time acceleration, personal and planetary changes, DNA upgrades, UFOs, shift to 4th and 5th dimension, the Ascension, and the synchronization of earth with the universe. Therefore, after exploring all of this he took his own fantasy and decided to create recordings with these ideas, philosophies, and future projections in mind to inspire a concept album. You can read more about the story on his website or at the CD Baby page for this CD.

As only the listener not the creator- it can be difficult to really “hear” and comprehend a completely instrumental album, match the titles with the music, and envision what the artist is seeing as the tracks play. Only the architect of the story has the quintessential lifeline to their music. It is then up to listener to recreate their own story, however it does help quite a bit if you have an idea of the entire concept and reasoning to the unfolding of the music before you. It also takes the right frame of mind and perhaps several listens before you get it.

As you listen to tracks, the realization of how connected they all are strikes you as prolific and it makes total sense, thus giving you each individual song rolled into one complete track to take in all at once. I heard familiar influences, such as Hendrix, once again at different points throughout, although this was not a key factor in the presentation or overall sound of the project. Alex spends a lot of time experimenting with sounds utilizing a MIDI guitar with Yamaha MU100 tone generator (strings, effects, bass, and sitar) and the Electro Harmonix Micro Synthesizer, for that cool synth phase shifting effect you will hear often.

Alex Rosselli is an emerging artist, and it is happening at the speed of light now with the release of 2012. This man has gone from impressive to brilliant in every way with this release.

Fear Called Living is a Trip Hop group formed in The Bronx, New York. Their musical style is a very distinctive mixture of electronica, hip hop and new wave, with a strong vocal element and raw storytelling lyrics.

The band was formed in 2005 by keyboardist/producer Menyu and singer/songwriter Desiree L’amour, who then recruited producer/multi-instrumentalist J. Kingz. L’amour and Kingz had previously fronted two rock bands before beginning Fear Called Living. Kingz decided to continue exploring styles that influenced his youth and convey a dark, gritty, down-tempo sound. Menyu’s compositions are melodic, deep and affecting, as they shade an array of color that eloquently flows without boundary. L’amour’s storytelling lyrics are philosophical and often stir shrewd, thought-provoking visual images. The combination of elements form a whole, richer, more distinctly somber sound than found in most mainstream music today.

The multi-talented Kingz and Menyu produce music and art for other performing artists, as well as Fear Called Living. The band’s debut album, “Other days” was released on May 22nd 2007.

‘..genuine inventive beauty.. Brenda are here as an influence rather than to be influenced.. a very very fine.. rewarding, highly recommended and rather original two track single’ ORGAN MAGAZINE - SINGLE OF THE WEEK

‘With the jittery ignition of 65DOS and the bleeding guitars of Fugazi circa ‘Instrument’. With an Oceansize ear for melody, these guys are a stunning addition to the Post-Rock genre, one’s to watch!’ Subba-cultcha.com - SINGLE OF THE MONTH

“Songs that are more inventive in 30 seconds than the entire career of 90% of other bands” - Drowned in Sound

“A breathtakingly huge musical quarry that, the more you excavate, the more you discover, the better it
gets.. 9/10″ - No Ripcord

“There’s something of deepening substance here… drawing an invisible line somewhere between Tortoise and
Stars of the Lid. A must.” - The Sunday Experience

“Brenda are certainly trying to redraw the lines between rock and electronic music.. Few bands realise their goals as well as this” - 4/5 Manchester Music

“This is music to be absorbed again and again” - The Fly

Did you ever feel like you are traveling in the left lane of life? No Restraints is not In The Left Lane of music so to speak but their music covers those feelings that make us feel like we are outside looking in, not a part of, all alone in a crowd of 300 people. I think you get my drift…

This album steadily grew on me and made its way into my psyche. Mark Smith and his vocals reminded me of Peter Gabriel era Genesis. Smith takes a lead role with his instrument as well. The keyboard is the driving force behind everything else happening on the recording, which is all very good. The bass and drums are exceptionally balanced and the sax adds an earthy almost ambient feel. As everything comes together and mixes down, Smith’s vocals push each storyline along.

This music can be dark and strange with odd time signatures, then change with more steady rhythms and a catchy hook from a bass line or a sax break. Even with all the changes and the absence of an electric guitar slashing away or fat power cords for sound to build on, the acoustic six-string fits in nicely with their overall presentation, giving them a more tasteful appealing invitation to their party. Crunching power is not what they are about-their sound is similar to Pink Floyd all mellowed out, minus the David Gilmour guitar licks, this is where the strong bass and keyboards come in to fill that void. I found it all very consistent and pleasing all the way through. They are subtle yet stark and prolific, dependent on the pace they are coming at you, which keeps it all very interesting. This CD is definitely not lacking in substance lyrically and musically.

“Modern Amnesia” is one of my favorite tracks and a grand showcase for the band’s musical acumen. Smith is the star of the show, using his supporting cast very smartly. Starla Robinson (tenor sax), Mitch Parker (bass), Jon Terry (guitar), Christina Terry and Rachael Cain (backup vocals), and AKA (drums) are a very important parts of the means to an end, or where the left lane ends as it were. All things considered- I enjoyed this very solid release quite a bit.

When this was over, I did not feel I was lost in the left lane with no way out; I related to it all and could find empathy for those still driving down that lonesome road.

Maggie Sayles has a beautiful voice. That was my first thought when I heard some samples of her new CD Trust. Initially I thought that she had the perfect voice for pop or jazz, and she does, however she manages to wrap that silky voice around rocking guitars and comes out sounding something similar to female fronted prog-rock bands like Mostly Autumn, which by no coincidence is one of my favorite bands.
