New York - Actress and singer, Cynthia Basinet petitions the United Nations Sixty-second General Assembly Fourth Committee on behalf of issues facing the Western Sahara.

From the UN official site:

CYNTHIA BASINET, singer and actress, said that the international community had a moral responsibility as steward of the Saharawi people, and that a shift in heart and not just policy was required. Anemia, diabetes, tuberculosis, stunting and acute malnutrition were plaguing the Saharawi population, and yet 90 per cent of the population had attended school and were literate, according to a 1998 study.

She expressed deep concern over land mine explosions, such as that which had claimed the life of 8 year-old Fatima Bent Ibrahim this past year. Food prices rivaled those of Europe, with camel meat costing about €4 and the price of potatoes and milk equally prohibitive. Finally, refugees living abroad were unable to bring relatives with them because Western Sahara was not recognized by the United Nations, nor were documents and passports.

It took all facets to make the world a diamond, she said, and the international community must look beyond traditional methods of aid to consider public-private partnerships and microlending, among other forms of assistance, so that Saharawis were not “slowly delineated from the human map of the world”.

Cynthia visited the W. Sahara in ‘01 in efforts to raise awareness for the Saharwian refugees living in self-determination.

She was later nominated for a shared Nobel Peace Prize as part of the “1000 PeaceWomen Across the Globe”.

The singer is best known for hits “Santa Baby” and “Tea For Two” .

Billy Craig has been busy these days with his new release, ‘This Side of Somewhere‘ featuring 14 original compositions. The recording started out at the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis, where Johnny Cash began his recording career, and the process was completed in the metro-Detroit area.

The new song that is being rolled out to radio is an edgy tune called “Millionaire“.

His music is being played on country stations in Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, New Jersey, Maine, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas, Mississippi and Florida and around the world.

Stations include, off the shores of England Radio Caroline, WORLD.FM, K94 New Country, Arizona’s Pure Country and Arizona’s Pure Country Canada as well as Detroit’s 99.5 The Wolf Country, Constant Country KRS, The Right Country Radio Network, WMME, WATZ, WQTE, WWBR, WGDN, WBWC, WCRC, WRBC, WFDU, WCEF, WCYO, WRVK, WDXE, WNKX, WVIM, KEIF, KVLG, KBUK, KYTE FM, WOYS, WOCY, KSOC and CHFX and the list is growing as America and the world discover this exciting new artist.

Thanks to the stations currently playing Billy Craig.

Billy is no stranger to the music industry. He’s been kicking it around for some time now. In fact, since childhood Billy has performed in thousands of shows. From solo performances to cover and original bands, from jazz and country to rock. He has played in front of audiences of up to 25,000 across the USA and abroad, including New York, California, Florida, Ohio, Texas, Detroit, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway.

For an unprecedented four times, with an open invitation to come back onto the show, Billy has been a featured artist performing live on the syndicated Mitch Albom Show for millions of listeners across the USA. “Billy Craig has been on our show a few times and gives a terrific performance each time. His songs are easy to remember, fun to listen to and a perfect fit for our audience. The harmonies with the band are terrific too,” says Ray Prosser, engineer for the Mitch Albom Show.

Live performer on the Over Easy show with Pam Rossi WCSX Detroit

Recently opened for country star John Michael Montgomery at Michigan’s largest outdoor amphitheatre DTE ENERGY MUSIC THEATRE to a responsive crowd that loved Billy’s show.

Proven, unique mix of mid- to down-tempo “exotic electronica” has been perfected by its producer and host, Forest, over show’s 21-year history

Musical Starstreams, the internationally-syndicated radio program and full-time format of ethereal, spacey, futuristic, progressive, ambient, worldly, dubby, trip hop, acid jazz, downtempo, chill music (simply called “exotic electronica”) begins a seven day per week, nightly schedule tonight on WNUA, Chicago, the USA’s third largest national media market and streaming on WNUA.com.

Longtime WNUA MD and programmer, Rick O’Dell, said, “Starstreams has been ‘can’t miss listening’ for its legions of Chicagoland fans for 21 years on WNUA. And, for every listener who’s asked us over the years to ‘give us more,’ we finally have some good news with the new nightly broadcast of the show.”

Musical Starstreams originated and first aired in San Francisco on December 20th of 1981. Ronald Reagan had been our president for just eleven months, interest rates were in the double digits and recordings were sourced from vinyl and cassettes - there were no compact discs or digital music files.

After a brief stint in the Chicago market on WCKG, Starstreams first aired on a weekly basis on WNUA in November of 1987. In 1991, the program was nominated for a prestigious Billboard magazine award for Network/Syndicator Adult Program of the Year. Over the years Starstreams has aired on over 200 radio stations - including WNUA, KKSF San Francisco, KNTU Dallas, XM CHILL Channel 84, DirecTV and numerous satellite channels and the Internet at Starstreams.com, Live365.com and the top rated, full-time AMBIENT channel at radioIO.com.

Thousands of programs later, producer and host Forest has perfected and evolved a proven, unique mix of mid- to down-tempo “exotic electronica” — neither head banging techno, nor syrupy new age — and in the process Starstreams has consistently garnered top ratings and loyal listeners worldwide.

Musical Starstreams, the exotic side of radio, is offered without charge weekly, nightly or full time, on a barter basis, to radio stations worldwide.

Described by NME as ‘Blistering, Frenzied, blood-stirring, rock that weaves its way through U2, the Foos and The Vines’ The Beat Poets are quickly becoming one of the most exciting new acts to emerge from Northern Ireland in recent years. BBC ATL in 2007 described them as “Northern Ireland’s hardest working unsigned band” with the Irish Star claiming they could be the biggest band to come from the North of Ireland since Snow Patrol. 2008 saw the band again praised by the BBC as a band destined to go far, with legendary Irish music magazine ‘Hotpress’ in April 2008 stating The Beat Poets are “a band on the cusp of something big…truly special…our new favourite band”.

Receiving airplay worldwide including the UK (Xfm, BBC, Virgin), Ireland (Today Fm, 2fm), USA (K-Rock) and Australia (Triple J) the band has been crowned Xfm unsigned winners, Virgin Radio Xtreme unsigned winners, Today Fm’s Rising Artist and were recently spotlighted by the New York CMJ Festival (July 2008). With their music now licensed by the BBC, Channel 4 and Sports Giants O’Neill the poets will further push their music via MTV worldwide in 2008.

Touring relentlessly the Beat Poets have supported World renowned acts such as Sonic Youth, The Chemical Brothers, The Duke Spirit, Nine Black Alps, The Parlotones and much more from venue’s such as Marlay Park (Dublin) to two impressive shows at 2008’s Canadian Music Week.

The Bands debut single ‘Turn It On/Shadowlands’ with Pronoia Records UK (2007) was a stepping stone for the band to self-release in 2008. Working with world acclaimed producers ‘Greg Haver’ (Manic Street Preachers, Lost Prophets), Dave Way ( Foo Fighers, Stevie Wonder) and Neal Calderwood (Fighting With Wire, The Answer) the band will release the highly acclaimed anthem ‘Staring Stars Down’ as part of a double A-side with G.I (Generation Innocence) on Oct 6 2008, with their debut album planned for Spring 2009.

Recently endorsed by Gio-Goi clothing (Liam Gallagher, Kasabian, Amy Winehouse, Babyshambles, The Enemy and The Artic Monkeys) the band are working with music photographer Graham Smith (www.grahamsmithphotography.co m) capturing the on the road life of the quintessential Independent rock band! As the band continues to receive the highest acclaim….here’s to 2008 and a year for the Poets!

On August 24, 2006, Wildflowers Records alternative-country artist Amy Speace stopped by Fort Collins’ KRFC 88.9 FM for a live in-studio interview and performance on the station’s Live@Lunch show. Now MusicDish is making 8 tracks available from that memorable show freely available in MP3 format through social networking site ReverbNation at http://www.reverbnation.com/amyspeace

Amy’s ReverbNation profile offers 8 live tracks from her third album “Songs for Bright Street,” recorded at the station, including “Double Wide Trailer,” “Dreamin,” “Make Me Lonely Again,” “The Real Thing,” “Row Row Row,” “Shed This Skin,” “Step Out of the Shade” and “Two.” KRFC 88.9 was voted Best Radio Station by Coloradan readers, as its Live@Lunch show has a listening base of thousands which grows daily toward FM range/demographics in Colorado of over 700,000 (without counting internet listeners). Live@Lunch has celebrated over 1,000 shows since launching in March 2003.

The promotional campaign is part of a larger effort to promote MusicDish’s latest downloadable MP3 album “Amy Speace - Live On Radio.” Gathering nine tracks Amy’s most memorable radio performances on Ft. Collins’ KRFC 88.9 FM, NY’s WFUV 90.7 FM and Boston’s WMBR 88.1 FM, as well as syndicated show The Art of Song, the full album is available for download at http://www.musicdish.net/amyspeace/mp3/

Amy Speace has already won a loyal grass-roots fan base, thanks in large part to live performances that merge warmth, humor and emotional immediacy, and to a tireless touring schedule that’s already taken her across the United States. She’s also won considerable critical acclaim, with The Village Voice observing that Speace is “taking her Americana away from twangy contemplation toward tangy confrontation” and noting that she’s “not another of those breathy would-be child poets, but a real singing writer of songs.” Time Out New York stated, “Amy Speace plays sweet, twangy folk music with a clear voice and an innocent vulnerability,” while The Nashville Scene noted that she “balances wry humor with open-hearted honesty.” And renowned Nashville critic Robert K. Oermann, writing in Music Row, dubbed her a “new star.”

Rising Detroit Country star Billy Craig has been busy these days. With his rockin’ opening for Country star John Michael Montgomery at Michigan’s largest outdoor amphitheatre, DTE Energy Music Theatre, and his new CD release ‘This Side of Somewhere’ featuring 14 of his original compositions, including the just released and compelling summer fun song “Flip Flops”.

The recording started out at the legendary Sun Studio in Memphis where Johnny Cash began his recording career and finishing the process in the Metro Detroit area.

The song is currently being played on 99.5 The Wolf Country Detroit HD Digital Radio and as a featured artist on the legendary WSM in Nashville it’s getting a great response. Other Country stations in Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, New Jersey, West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Oregon and Canada are all hoping on the summertime bandwagon with “Flip Flops.” The song has recently been added to the play list for Pure Country GAPEAU FM in France and regular rotation on Radio Antenna 2 in Italy as well as England and Australia.

Billy Craig is no stranger to the music industry, he’s been kicking it around for some time. In fact, since childhood Billy has performed in thousands of shows. From solo performances to cover and original bands, from jazz and Country to rock, he has played in front of audiences of up to 25,000 across the USA and abroad, including New York, California, Florida, Ohio, Texas, Detroit, Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway.

As one of the founding members of a Detroit based band he co-wrote songs that received heavy radio play in the Detroit metro market and as far west as Sacramento, California.

Recently Billy was a featured artist performing live on the syndicated Mitch Albom Show for millions of listeners across the USA.

Billy has been newly nominated for the Motor City Music Awards.

CHAINDRIVEN’s video Area 51 was selected out of hundreds of videos submitted to the “Webstock: Battle of the Fans video contest.” The top two bands battled it out at the Key Club in Hollywood June 12th while listeners got to view and vote for their favorite band during the live webcast. On June 16th KLOS announced that CHAINDRIVEN was the fans’ favorite.

BIO:
CHAINDRIVEN was formed in 2002 in Santa Clarita, CA by Vocalist, Mando Medina; Guitarist, Dave Dzaich; Bassist, Scott Herron; and Drummer, Bob Slattery. The band was spawned when Scott and Dave decided to start a metal band. After a few false starts with various drummers, they found Bob. He had just recently returned from Europe, and fate had it that they would all cross paths. After months of auditioning vocalists, Mando joined the line up. He was fresh from his enlistment in the military, and he was offered the job right at the end of their first rehearsal together. At that point, they knew the combination of all four individuals had a certain raw magic. CHAINDRIVEN’s first full length, self-titled CD was released in January 2008, and has just started to create some buzz in the music world. The band’s hard-hitting, crunchy, driving sound has hailed venues such as The Whiskey-a-Go-Go, The Knitting Factory, and The Key Club among other legendary stops along the Sunset Strip and surrounding areas. Most recently, CHAINDRIVEN added a second guitarist, Chris Neil, to the line up. His personal style rounds out CHAINDRIVEN’s unique jaw-clenching sound. CHAINDRIVEN is currently working on their second album, continuing to gig, and enjoying every minute playing for their growing fan base.
