Stacy Epps has recently announced the release of her worldwide debut solo album, “The Awakening.” Scheduled for August 5th, 2008, the album is an 11-track composition of enchanting soulful sounds and deep-rooted boom-bap flavor. The album parallels her ideals of unity and grass-roots movements and is a completely independent effort, released on New Directions in Sound/Japanubia Musik.

The album features production from Apex, Amdex, S1, Everett James, Slugabed, and others, along with guest-artist features such as Muhsinah, Finale, and Bilal Salaam. “Floatin’” is the first single, which demonstrates Stacy’s archetypical blend of soft, heartfelt vocals and strong yet sensual lyrics.

The single has already garnered praise from influential DJs such as Gilles Peterson (Radio 1, BBC), who’s featuring the song on his Brownswood Bubblers Volume 3 release. Numerous bloggers have taken notice, including an Artist Spotlight on the mammoth ConcreteLoop.com and feature on the main page of Mp3.com.

Indian hip-hop label, Desi Media Networks launched its hip-hop/rap group named DNOAX with an eleven strong, London based, Indian hip-hop/rap combo. Pretty unique take on the genre is surprisingly fresh and beautifully vibrant; eastern influences pour themselves in and out of the genre-typical pulsating grooves and you find yourself being slowly sucked in to DNOAX musical ethos. And, having been willingly rather than reluctantly sucked in you could honestly say, hey this is cool - I love it!!

There are four really crisp, really tasty tracks included here; ‘They See (DESI) Revolution’, ‘The Moment’, ‘DNOAX Is Back’ and ‘Bhool Na Jana’ - and, really are inspired! DNOAX create a beautifully rounded sound as it chops and changes between ’street’ English and India’s native ’street’ language. It’s weird coz you don’t really need to know what they’re singing about - you just have to let the music wrap itself around you and sit back and nestle in its warm exterior. And, that warm exterior surrounds a very well crafted, luxuriant and equally warm interior - in fact, this work is performed and produced to a very high standard and DNOAX is very proud of themselves for givin’ it their all!

If you have any leanings towards world music or appreciate true ‘international’ vibes then you might just find this as entertaining and rewarding as every listener earlier experienced; DNOAX would certainly make u sit up. This is a fascinating fusion , Hip-hop music isn’t tied into any Nation, race or creed but it does tend to be associated more with black American artists more than anything else. The Brits have done it and it’s been handled successfully in Europe - so its walkin’ the right path with Asian or Indian nuances and the answer is DNOAX and supposedly it doesn’t actually defy logic - there’s no reason at all why Indian artists shouldn’t have something to say through what is essentially music of and for the street!!

DNOAX, with ‘They See (desi) Revolution’ have brought a smile to all the listeners and viewers across the globe and a twinkle to their toes - DNOAX has a great future - their music will appeal to a pretty wide audience and as this whole trip is properly promoted and it could very well come to pass that ‘they see revolution’ in hip-hop/rap music with the likes of the excellent DNOAX and their ‘world’ contemporaries. Most unusual but extremely pleasing stuff from a great sounding combo - pleasantly surprising and damn cool to partake of - DNOAX rock and that’s the truth!!

And here is a dekko of their ground-breaking, brand new video. They See (Desi) Revolution

Rocko: Yeah. I was actually in the process of closing a deal with another label when L.A. Reid contacted me and wanted to sign me.

RTNY: What are the boardroom meetings like, is the label fully behind you?

Rocko: I’m feeling all the love and support from the label. I go in and they let me know what songs they like. It’s a real good feeling. I’m feeling good about everything right now.

RTNY: The single is big down in the South, has it been crazy for you since releasing the song?

Rocko: It’s been crazy. Initially when I started rappin’ I was thinking more about the money. But once I started going to these different cities and doing shows, and getting on stage telling people what I want them to do-and they do it…I was like, wow. That really made me start taking it seriously. It’s a real good feeling.

RTNY: You’ve done production for a lot of artists with your Rocky Road Productions. Can you name some of those artists?

Rocko: Franchize Boyz, Young Dro, Pastor Troy, Lil Flip and the whole Sucker Free camp.

RTNY: In the future, is producing something you want to do more of?

Rocko: I mean…for the most part, yeah. I have a few tracks that I produced for my own album. But for the most part, I want to venture off into the film industry.

RTNY: What made you want to start doing that?

Rocko: I always have felt like I could act. My album comes out March 18 and we just finished up my movie called, Self Made. It’s an album and a movie.

RTNY: So you’re hoping your rap career will launch your film career?

Rocko: Oh, yeah, definitely.

RTNY: A lot of hip-hop heads have been calling you a Jeezy clone. What do you have to say to those people?

Rocko: I just tell em’ to do them and keep hating. I’m getting paid over here, getting $12,000 for a show. I have my own label. I got a stupid deal. And I’m cashing in right now. I could care less about what a hater has to say about me.

RTNY: Do you feel as though southern artists sometimes get unnecessary backlash from the fans and the industry?

Rocko: I think its jut the broke people.

RTNY: (Laughing).

Rocko: I think they don’t have nothing else better to do than hate, feel me?

RTNY: Yep.

Rocko: If you had something else better to do with your time, you could care less about what somebody else is doing. You would be concentrated on getting your money. Believe it or not, that’s the type of thing that keeps me motivated to do what I’m doing. And on top of that, I come with a different flow on every beat. That’s why they call me “Mr. Southern Swag”, because I adjust my flow and freak it according to the beat.

RTNY: So in other words you want other people to do them and not worry about you?

Rocko: Exactly. I could care less about what a hater is saying. I’m laughing all the way to the bank.

In the spring of 2008 an ever-effervescent electro-hip hop band Fyr * Wyr will release the Dance Dance A. Revolution EP (‘GO! MEDIA) featuring remixes of Justice, Daft Punk, Shiny Toy Guns along with various original tracks, The sample mix, “’GO! MIX,” is a sneak peek from their forthcoming full-length, coming out later this summer, and you can check it out here:

With members hailing from Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and Connecticut, it’s no surprise that the now Chicago-based group’s sound is as diverse and eclectic as it is. Their music is an unusually refreshing take on electronic and experimental hip hop/rap and club music - colorful, inventive and yet still catchy enough for everyone to enjoy.

With an eye firmly focused on the soaring love of the “party” environment, the music of FyR * WyR reflects their shared loves - 80’s house, lyrical hip hop, new wave far beyond.

Be on the lookout for the band in Illinois, Florida, California and at the Warped Tour 08.
