Connolly’s Pub and Restaurant, located at 121 W. 45th street in mid town, was the host for the launch of Not Fade Away Records’ third album “The Cost” by the Tim Young Band.

The party was a terrific celebration of over a year’s hard work. Recording began on the album during March of 2007. Tim had located the independent production team of Counter Clockwise Music through an association with Mike Stephens who hosts a podcast in Wayne, MI. Producer Mark Meisel heard the track ‘Renegade’ on Mike’s podcast and became interested in contacting Tim.

Tim Young - “The Cost”

That’s how the story begins. The rest, as they say, is history. The collaboration between Tim Young Band; Tim Young, rhythm guitar and lead vocals; and Sand Edwards, drums; and all involved from Counter Clockwise has been, in my humble opinion, a smashing success.

Since such strong bonds had been created during the week when basic tracks were recorded, not to say anything about the months of mixing through via emails, it only seemed damn appropriate that the entire Detroit team be on hand for the release party. Let’s say I was more than pleased when after I made the suggestion to Mark Meisel and Bob Becker that they get themselves to New York City for this party, they enthusiastically approved.

To make things even more complete, two other players who made such important contributions to ‘The Cost’ were also able to attend. Dave Leeds, who plays bass on all the tracks, as well as Bob’s brother, Rick Becker, who added the amazing electric guitar parts to the remake of ‘Renegade.’ Mark Meisel also tore the place up with his electric guitar. Mark added electric guitar to all the other tracks on the album in addition to all the keyboard parts.

It was the celebratory mood and the rejoining of old friends that helped to lift the party into the higher vibe at Connolly’s. The Klub Room is the party room and the good times are as easily spilled there as a pint of beer. Many old and new fans of the band were in attendance. Over one hundred in all. The constant gigging among the bars of Hell’s Kitchen’s ninth avenue have turned out to be so very valuable.

Aiding to the sounds of the party was Tim’s son, Adam, who brought along his laptop packed with great rock n roll to fill in the gaps when the band was not performing. Adam was also involved in one of the highlights of the show during a jam of Tim’s song ‘New Orleans’ at the very end of the performance when he and engineer Bob Becker popped up on stage to help sing the chorus.

That’s what was so appealing about the mood of the evening. An extended family brought back together for a reunion and I think everybody could feel those connections. Marks’ wife, Billie Meisel, also helped keep things flowing smoothly by seeing that everyone that came into the room received their copy of ‘The Cost’ for their five dollar contribution.

The music and enthusiasm would not be contained once the Klub Room had to dim the lights so an impromptu after party materialized at The famous bastion of dive bars, Rudy’s, over on ninth avenue and 44th street. The band and the entire Detroit contingent swooped into Rudy’s where, Danny, the most cordial manager, immediately tossed ‘The Cost’ CD on the player and everyone drank toasts aplenty. A fitting night cap to an evening replete with great friends and rock n roll.

Elvin Bishop is struttin’ his stuff again just as he has for a long time now. It was 1975 when the album Struttin’ My Stuff came out and suddenly it seems (in reference to musical output) that 2008 came very fast indeed. Bishop is still crankin’ out the blues on The Blues Rolls On.

Bishop is in the higher echelon of performers in the genre now and he tells you why with all the guests that comes on board to help him deliver twelve smoldering tracks of blues-rock.
This is a predominately studio album with a few select live cuts. Warren Haynes, an amazing player from The Allman Brothers and Gov’t Mule, stands alongside Bishop and they peel off some amazing slide guitar work. Kim Wilson (Fabulous Thunderbirds) sings and plays harp as well making the lead off track “The Blues Rolls On” unforgettable. “Struttin’ My Stuff” is equally tantalizing as Allman Bros. band mate Derek Trucks delivers the goods with Haynes again coming in and adding his licks. Now if that wasn’t enough to get your heart pumpin’ then the king of the court B.B. King and his longtime love Lucille step on stage for a short interview conducted by Bishop then the duo launch into “Keep A Dollar In Your Pocket,” a classic blues song that everyone seems to enjoy playing and it never gets old.

Some may say what you get is predictable on a star studded affair such as this however I beg to differ, what you can count on is great music from a lineup anyone would give their right arm to play with. This is an indication of Bishop’s ascendancy to blues royalty. Lord knows the man deserves it; he has been pumping out quality blues and entertaining folks for several decades now.

I especially liked Bishop’s solo flight on “Oklahoma.” He lets you all know he does not need any of the stellar all-star blues support to sound great and like an individual artist. The lyrics are simple and down home with the blues and his guitar playing is scorching hot, yep Elvin still knows how to bend those strings to his liking. His voice is still darn good too.”Send You Back To Georgia” is another barnburner with one of my all time favorites Mr. Bad To The Bone, George Thorogood, another old timer that has paid his dues and can still rock down the house. In addition, you cannot forget to mention the man with the harp James Cotton, there are not too many better than this guy anywhere in the world today. James teams up with Elvin, John Nemeth and veteran blues mama Angela Strehli. The combination proves to be just what the doctor ordered - blues by the truckload and everyone that joins the party is a star.

Now these are just some highlights from a recording that comes filled with them from top to bottom. If you love the blues this is a necessary possession to claim yourself as a true blues fan, so don’t y’ all miss it now!

Tim Young - “The Cost” MP3

Tim Young’s single “The Cost” tugs right at your heart-strings with fully-charged, emotive lyrics like “Now the night is sawin’ at my heart… nobody knows the cost of losing you.” Moving forward from the pain of loss, this twang-y, sorrowful lament about heartbreak infuses country-western-rock to create a catchy melody.

Born and raised in the Big Apple, Susannah Blinkoff began singing professionally in clubs and off-Broadway when she was only twelve years old. As an actress, she has appeared in numerous TV movies, sitcoms and plays on both coasts. With plentiful experience on the stage, she decided to to take her act and talent to the world of music.

It did not take long for her music to catch on as her hook filled pop-rock songs have been featured on MTV’s hit shows such as “My Super Sweet Sixteen” and in the feature film “My Super Ex-Girlfriend.”
With Let’s Pretend, her second full-length release, Susannah typifies the indie spirit and the multi-talented reputation she has garnered over the years. While reaching back to a solid foundation of rock and pop the singer/songwriter takes equal elements of country, folk, and spirituals then churns out one stunning track after another on Let’s Pretend.
Without forgetting from where she came, she does not disappoint as “I Got Lucky” gets things good and warm and “My Time Now” kicks it up a notch on an emotional level, making a strong personal statement for the singer. Tracks like “Be Alright” take her vocal talents to new heights with a fiery backdrop to help support her and in the same instance; the excellent musicianship provided on the recording allows Susannah to take everything in a different direction with the haunting “The Storm Is Passing Over.”
You won’t find any cookie cutter pop rock on Let’s Pretend; it offers nothing but versatility and variety, a mirror image of the performer. Visit Susannah Blinkoff’s website for updates, pictures, performance dates and more.

ARTIST DESCRIPTION

In 1998 four guys from Sofia, Bulgaria started a band and named it Daily Noise Club. Now, 10 years later, lot of club gigs and fest appearances, debut album - “Dirty Dress” (D.N.C./043) 2002, and a single - “Let Us” (D.N.C. music) 2004, they are still here looking forward! Up to this day Daily Noise Club finished their second album “Next Level”.

They were opening act for Anthrax in 2003 and Megadeth in 2005 for their shows in Sofia (Bulgaria), and also did a lot of tours with the independent bands like Soleilnoir (Germany), Voodoo Healers (Greece), Bubblegum Screw (UK) and Black Magic Six (Finland).

Playing high energy, passionate and loud rock Daily Noise Club can always make you fit into the right mood for a jump & shout type of party! This is the feeling they deliver and you get at their shows, proving that rock music is the ultimate time machine, even now in 21st century!

MUSIC QUOTES

“Next Level” as a disc, is a strange beast indeed. The only really common thread throughout the album is a high level of energy, the pieces move from mood to mood and sound to sound, whether it be angry and explosive (opener “Next Level”), ecstatic and energetic (”Above”), a slow burn buildup to explosion (”I See (What You See)”) or positively mournful and troubled (”Dead Gent”). One thing that probably hurt this album considerably was that the sound/style is difficult to pigeon-hole. While that is all well and good for a listener, that did not sit well with radio. You were either grunge or you weren’t. But this album is probably the most successful example of blurring the lines. The sound of the Daily Noise Club is still rooted in early 1980s glam/alternative but the distorted guitars have been slimmed down to a more subtle production. In other words, it’s heavy music performed softly. Although the CD is full of contradictions that do not bode well for popular music, still it shows another musical aspect of the rock music, that reveals its beauty after listening to it several times.

The artist known as Circle Syndicate (aka JP) has a unique sound and lyrical send off in every one of his tracks. Although String Theory was released in 2006, it sounds fresh and relevant, just as if it was released yesterday. In addition, most certainly the real life relevancy of this artist and his songs resonates with validity.

There is a smart mixture of hip-hop and rock that I found intriguing with this recording. It takes a lot to pull me in if an album has strong elements of hip-hop or rap so I have to give the “hats off” to JP for doing a great job of keeping my interest and flat out fascination with his artistry and clear multitude of talents. This gent did the entire album by himself including production and all the instruments and lyrics. What we have here is a work of brilliance and lyrical cynicism and an interpretation on a gut level that cuts right to the chase. This is my kind of in your face lyrical prose that I just love. Some of the lyrics are so profound.

On “Killing You Alive” he sings…

One foot deep is how we all start off

Two feet deep is just breaking the law

Three feet deep is half way to hell (trying every escape
someone’s got for sale)

Four feet deep slightly ahead of the pack

Five feet deep slightly addicted to crack

Six feet deep, with one more in the hand, put it away or put it all to an end

And he speaks very loud and proud on “M16s & AK47s” by saying…

Liberated by the hated so they want to forget

That their cities were burning, death was served and if it
wasn’t for Americans they’d all be speaking German

Look, I love the people of the world who don’t hate me

So, don’t take this as a rebel with his poison ink

For some, its hard to see its World War number three and every battle ends in victory by defeat
The lyrics have to be prolific for me to quote entire passagesand this is some “to the bone” stuff that you must hear and process. The musicianship needs mention as well, throughout this recording it is exceptional along with strong vocals. When you get right down to it, String Theory is a treat for the ears and senses all the way around, it cannot miss.

Tim Young Band is becoming more and more associated with the Podcast nation. The first week of September has seen three podcasts pick up on the sounds of Tim Young Band.

Tim Young’s The Cost - musicdish

Two on either side of our USA and one from our brothers and sisters in Italy. First up is a program from New Hampshire known as Opinionated Ramblings hosted by a DJ by the name of CeeJay. CeeJay chose to start off her Labor Day special podcast with the song ‘Work Today’ which is from Tim Young’s solo album RED. RED was released in the Spring of 2005. This year’s THE COST is the follow up. CeeJay is a southerner transplanted to New England and a musician herself. The Labor Day special is Podcast number 56 and first aired on September 1, 2008. http://ceejay64.blogspot.com/

‘Hangin In’ caught the ears of two gentlemen in Italy who have a podcast known as AmiciAmici. The site is all in Italian but it sounds like these guys really love what they do. ‘Hangin In’ debuts on their Podcast number 61 or Puntata 61. ‘Hangin In’ is showcased on THE COST. This program first aired on September 3, 2008. http://www.amiciamici.com/rubrica/podcast/

Rounding off the week was The choice of ‘Outta Town’, from THE COST. A very prolific podcaster by the name of David Tanny aired this track on his I Still Get Demented Podcast Edition show number 32 out of San Diego, CA. David makes special notice of ‘Outta Town’ and also fills his shows with parody and political humor. A very entertaining listen. Show number 32 first aired on September 6, 2008. http://www.dfsxradio.com/5200.htm

Podcasters are able to search for and find podsafe music, which is original music wholly controlled by its creators, at the Podsafe Music Network. Artists can create an account there and post the music they’d like to make available for podcast. http://music.podshow.com/

As this first week of September is demonstrating the music of Tim Young Band is appealing and attractive to people in the industry. These podcasters are among the vanguard in their support and attempts to help spread the buzz about these great songs. In addition, Tim Young Band, is beginning to build a potent web presence with the aid of MusicDish.com in their tireless efforts to help promote the new album THE COST.

Everything started when, long time ago, when I was 18 years, I formed my first hard rock band called Notredame, showing a nice work that now to the 46 years, I rescue hard rock of 70’s with a band called Burning Brains The Band, with great influences of Judas Priest, AC/DC, Mottorhead, Dokken, Ratt and the excellent Keel band, without a doubt.

The songs show the day to day reality, and not forgetting the romantic ballads, that show what a real hard rock band is. Coming along with me my wife Alcyete Caracciolo, who is poet and to song-writer of the band, so she writes the letters in Portuguese and translates into the English.

With only two months of formed band we received an invitation from a great friend called Fred of the Arrepius Store, (store specialized in metal material and rock), to open the show of the DR. SIN, and certainly we accepted without a doubt. After two months we opened the show of the band ANGRA here in Belém, it was a great success.

We participate with the program Protótipo from Culture FM Station, and an amazing show at the Store Ná Figueredo (Open Show) and not forgetting Boteco (Computer Store Bands Contest). We had an interview with the SBT Television and filming of the band in the store Ná Figueredo with 3 releases, what it can be seen in the photos of the ORKUT, what showed a much more mature band, with good musicians.

We have now our first DVD preformed at again at Ná Figueredo Store and another filmed at Cultura TV. We carry through a show in the Coffee with Art, a very good public. Day 23 of May we had been at Culture Television for a live show to entire Brazil and the rest of the world.

In this site, we have ringtones to sell and to divulge the http://burningbrains.ooober.com/. We want to show for the world that the Burning Brains The Band has a rock with quality and harmonious melodies, showing that romantic ballads remains in the good and old rock and roll. The band Burning Brains The Band: Pablo Monteiro: Bass, Antonio Jr: Vocal, Paulo Fernandes: Guitar, Mário Jorge: Guitarra and Carlos Junior: Drums. Our Band is registered in the Notary’s office Chermont Valley and the letters are registered in the sector of copyrights of the UFRJ.

Atomic Brother is one of only about 100 bands and DJs selected to perform showcases at this year’s Baltimore Music Conference, taking place September 17-20 at venues throughout Baltimore.

Atomic Brother’s showcase is 10 PM Friday, September 19 at Bedrock, 401 W Baltimore St., Baltimore, MD.

The Baltimore Music Conference’s mission is to support and nurture the local scene, and showcase talent that needs exposure. “It’s easy to get lost among the 1000+ performers at other conferences,” says bassist S.A. Sebastian Gnolfo, “We’re excited to be playing a conference where the organizers are making an effort to give each performer maximum exposure.”

In addition to the band’s performance, Atomic Brother bass player, Sebastian, will be speaking on the conference’s Podcast/Webcasting Panel, earlier Friday afternoon, discussing “changes in how people are being exposed to music,” and the making of band’s video podcast, Wastin’ Time With Atomic Brother.

About Atomic Brother:

Atomic Brother was formed in 2003 by James Melillo on lead vocals and guitar and S.A. Sebastian Gnolfo on bass and vocals. Calling themselves, “Alternative Hard Rock,” many listeners compare Atomic Brother’s music to Disturbed, Megadeth, Alice In Chains, Henry Rollins, Ramones, Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix.

Atomic Brother, spent the last year performing in support of their debut album, See Me Comin’, which has garnered the band international attention and support, especially in Switzerland, where the album was recorded. The song “Everything and Less” reached #7 on Zürich-based Redaktion Rockstation radio charts, and SwissRecords.com asserts that, “Atomic Brother can certainly write powerful songs.” The band’s podcast, now in its second year, often gives viewers a behind-the-scenes look at songwriting and recording, rehearsing and performing, the sometimes not-so-rock and roll side of being in a band in New York City, and sometimes just fooling around and having fun.

About the Baltimore Music Conference:
The Baltimore Music Conference is about supporting and nurturing the local scene, as well as bringing visiting talent into our city. Set up predominantly to showcase those who need exposure, but also those who have made a name for themselves in the music industry as we believe each benefits and can help one another.

The 2008 Baltimore Music Conference takes September 17-20, at 14 venues throughout Baltimore. For more information about the Baltimore Music Conference, please contact Lisa Chaplin Suit - Executive Director / Founder of the Baltimore Music Conference at LSuit @ bmcon.org.
