WellMixed.com is now offering internet-based mixing and mastering services for Apple Logic and Steinberg Cubase users. Previously, WellMixed.com offered services to GarageBand and Digidesign ProTools users only.

According to Clay Vernon, the audio engineer and entrepreneur who launched the site in July, the move is in response to user feedback. “Some e-mails I read expressed interest in Cubase specifically,” Vernon said. “It was always my intention to include the Cubase community, but because it was clear some opportunities were being missed, it became a higher priority. So now the site is ahead of schedule.”

Vernon also announced that all new users will be given one FREE mix (up to 3.5 minutes in length) in exchange for completing a beta survey through September 15, 2008.

WellMixed.com is the first internet-based music studios to allow users to upload their complete sessions (up to 2 Gigabytes in size) via the internet. It attempts to solve the problem of gifted musicians who record themselves, but lack the resources to make those recordings sound their best for distribution via digital download distributors such as iTunes, Amazon, MySpace, etc… It also provides a solution for GarageBand users who want their sessions converted to the industry standard ProTools format.

Prices for mixing and mastering of a Logic, Cubase, GarageBand, or ProTools project are $99 for a piece of music up to 3.5 minutes in length, and $149 for a piece of music up to 6 minutes in length.

Logic is Apple’s professional audio editing software.
Cubase is a computer program for music production published by the German company Steinberg.
GarageBand is an audio editor for musicians that has shipped on every Apple computer since its release in 2005.
ProTools, published by Digidesign software, is the music industry standard for audio editing with versions available for both Mac and Windows computers. WellMixed.com is an internet startup by audio-engineer Clay Vernon.

This is not unexpected, as Imre spazzed out during recording session. Both the lead guitarist and bass guitarist left Monday night, July 14, 2008 after Imre was working out some vocal parts for the upcoming cd/dvd release for November 15, 2008.

Apparently later in the evening, Imre was singing the verses while laying on the floor by the piano. He was singing, then he got up and walked out the door down the hall while still singing and grasping the microphone. Something was really strange. After Imre didn’t return, the engineer looked outside and behind the studio in the field was Imre still singing and holding the microphone. The engineer tried tugging the microphone cord, but he was scared. The engineer went on to say “I wasn’t sure what to do, I didn’t know if he was a sane man.”

I asked the engineer how he thought the upcoming release was coming along. He said, “it’s coming along, slowly but really good. There’s so much different stuff, each song is like a movie, really interesting project to be working on.

Keep a watch on this band, they’re incredible…and I mean it!

Olivier Goyet, DJ and clavierist investing his know-how within the Birmingham based ultra-doom outfit ‘Esoteric’, IS Dead Beat Project.

This “band” took shape during the summer of 2005 while on tour in Europe, writing some possible ideas of new compositions for Esoteric, but which eventually could not fit with the band and were associated together under one new Project.

It’s taken nearly 8 months for completion of the first album of DBP, which has been mastered by Greg Chandler at Priory Studios (Sutton Coldfield - UK) and is now released on Aesthetic Death Records.

The music expresses a certain form of beauty in sadness and melancholy. Endless Space and Time where one can linger eyes closed. A moment of reflexion on the inner self.

When asked about his amazing ability to communicate genuine emotion through his lyrics and melodious soulful vocals sung to pop and rock rhythms, Kris’ response is as insightful and poignant as his songs. “I see the audience in the same situations I’m singing about,” Searle says, “and I absolutely love this because I want to give people a universal experience, validating that what they feel is real, that someone else has been through the same thing.”

Huntington Beach Alt/Prog Rock band Alternate Sound of Life have been performing around the Southwest sharing the stage with the likes of Fair to Midland, Apex Theory, Strata, Opus Dai and even TV legend David Carradine. They’ve performed at some of the top clubs in So Cal including The Troubadour, The Viper Room, The Key Club, Hard Rock Cafe (two locations), House Of Blues (Anaheim), The El Rey Theater and The Whisky. Following the success of their first self produced EP, they decided to solicit help for the production of their debut full length and attracted the attention of internationally renowned producer/mixer, Ronan Chris Murphy who has worked with some of the world’s greatest musicians including: King Crimson, Steve Morse, Ulver, Tony Levin, Steve Stevens and Terry Bozzio.

The band and Murphy teamed up for rehearsals in May and began recording at Los Angeles studio Veneto West in June. Currently in the last weeks of production and mixing, the album is set for a Fall release and promises to be one of the strongest So Cal releases of the year.

The music of Alternate Sound of Life blends the intricate heaviness of bands like Tool with strong melodies and emotional lyrics of bands like U2 and Circa Survive. Murphy has turned out to be the perfect complement to the album. Having worked on over a dozen albums with prog legends King Crimson as well as pop stars like Jamie Walters, he has been able the blend aggressive intricate material with their commercial and melodic sensibilities.

Alternate Sound of Life (often called ASL by their fans) was founded by Ian Mora (vocals) and Akilino Jacky (drums) after moving from northern California to Huntington Beach where they met Alabama native Matthew McDonald (guitar), Michael Labman (keyboard) from Virginia, and the only So Cal native, Evan Shechtman (bass).

• What?

Whether you need some rockabilly picking, moody or wild surf guitar, exotic electric sitar or yoy-yoy sounds, exploitation funk wah-wah licks, British shadows-style tape-echo twang or evil biker flick fuzz, also doo-wop tic-tac bass and Twin Peaks type sixstring bass leads are possible.

Here are some examples of my guitar playing, just click the links and listen I use vintage gear as well as new stuff. I also use simulation software - depending on the sounds required. I can process my recorded tracks: add a proper room impression, vintage console coloration, tape saturation and stuff like that - if you want me to.

• How?

You contact me, telling me about your project and how you plan to use the recording. The better I know your vision before I start, the faster and cheaper I can come up with something cool - I will make you a good price - you pay. Then you send me some audio that you want me to play on – I will record a couple of takes and send them to you in any audio-file-format you need. The maximum audio fidelity at this point is 24bit wordlength and 48khz sampling rate. If I have to redo things a lot, I will ask for more money. If possible, you give me a credit where the music is used.
