Dwayne Kerr (Erykah Badu’s Funky Fluteman) has teamed up with Kerwin DeVonish (Spike Lee producer) to release a new video that was filmed on the beaches of Barbados. Click on the link below to view. Higher Calling, which features stellar guest appearances by Erykah Badu and Kirk Whalum has received accolades from reviewers. Kerr was hired to play as a band member for Grammy Award-winning Erykah Badu in 1998. While touring with Erykah, Dwayne has played in Africa, Italy, Japan, throughout Europe and Scandinavia, on the all-female artists Lilith Fair Tour and television appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, MTV’s Real World, The Oprah Show, Live! With Regis and BET Live.

While touring and recording with Erykah Badu for the past several years, Dwayne added his sound to recordings including Ms. Badu’s version of the Chaka Khan hit, “Hollywood,” which is on the soundtrack/CD to the Spike Lee movie, Bamboozled, on Motown Records and Erykah’s song, “Today,” which is on the Red Star Sounds compilation CD on Epic Records. Kerr played on Erykah’s latest CD, Worldwide Underground, and her previous CD, Mama’s Gun, on Motown Records.

Raised and still residing on Long Island, New York, Kerr attended New York colleges Nassau Community College, SUNY-Stony Brook and SUNY-Old Westbury, where he was trained classically and in jazz. Kerr is a brilliant flutist who is moving the flute into other genres of music not often explored. Connecting with the audience both in a live setting and on recordings is a trait well-respected by others in the industry. “I’ve seen Dwayne inspire many people all over the world with his sound,” said RC Williams, Producer/co-songwriter Higher Calling and Producer/Songwriter/MD for Erykah Badu.

A by-product of his ascending career, Kerr signed a deal with AKG Acoustics in 2001 to endorse an AKG wireless headset system. When not touring with Ms. Badu, Kerr is active in his venture as a solo artist, most notable having performed at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, the Jazz & Broadway Concert at the United Nations and at halftime of several National Basketball Association games. Dwayne has performed on shows with or opened shows for Erykah Badu, Regina Belle, Roy Hargrove, Marion Meadows, Stephanie Mills, Vanessa Rubin and other noted artists.

“As I watch my friend in amazement,” Erykah said of Dwayne, “the high tones and the trills become part of me, helping me to grow on stage. I don’t know which is sweeter, his tone or his soul.”

The release of Higher Calling is indeed a new chapter in the life of this astounding artist. The making of the project was an organic process that evolved into a musical diary of the musicians involved.

With over 350 shows in the last two years including four tours of the UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and Germany, Nell Bryden - American songstress, poet and free spirit - is back on the UK shores with a new collection of stirring songs.

‘Second Time Around’ (released 13^th October, 2008) is an anthology of ten blues, country / modern Dixie and jazz tracks all delivered in Nell’s sassy and vibrant yet elegant and sexy style. A woman of many musical talents, she not only writes and sings but also plays electric, acoustic and twelve string guitars as well as the dobro and cello on the record.

Renowned for her live shows, Nell has already supported KT Tunstall and lined up opening slots for the Counting Crows this July. Also famous for her vocal ability, she has a reputation for entertaining with a playful rock `n roll lure yet still warming even the coldest of hearts.

Drawing influences from Ryan Adams and Bob Dylan through to soul divas like Nina Simone and Bonnie Raitt, Nell’s musical heritage is rich. Born in Brooklyn into an artistic family Nell grew up with her father, an impressionist painter and her mother who was a classical singer. Her musical development began early with her studying the piano at 4 and then picking up the cello aged 9 - she later taught herself to write music.

“Most of my songs are about some sort of longing for meaningful love, and I remain a completely hopeful romantic. My lyrics have a darker undertone but I’m essentially a sanguine optimist”.

The album, which is currently getting radio play across the US and Canada on more than 84 stations, has already charmed the other side of the Atlantic. Set for release in the UK on 13^th October on 157 Records, early indications suggest it will do much the same over here.

Indian hip-hop label, Desi Media Networks launched its hip-hop/rap group named DNOAX with an eleven strong, London based, Indian hip-hop/rap combo. Pretty unique take on the genre is surprisingly fresh and beautifully vibrant; eastern influences pour themselves in and out of the genre-typical pulsating grooves and you find yourself being slowly sucked in to DNOAX musical ethos. And, having been willingly rather than reluctantly sucked in you could honestly say, hey this is cool - I love it!!

There are four really crisp, really tasty tracks included here; ‘They See (DESI) Revolution’, ‘The Moment’, ‘DNOAX Is Back’ and ‘Bhool Na Jana’ - and, really are inspired! DNOAX create a beautifully rounded sound as it chops and changes between ’street’ English and India’s native ’street’ language. It’s weird coz you don’t really need to know what they’re singing about - you just have to let the music wrap itself around you and sit back and nestle in its warm exterior. The Brits have done it and it’s been handled successfully in Europe - so its walkin’ the right path with Asian or Indian nuances and the answer is DNOAX and supposedly it doesn’t actually defy logic - there’s no reason at all why Indian artists shouldn’t have something to say through what is essentially music of and for the street!!

DNOAX, with ‘They See (desi) Revolution’ have brought a smile to all the listeners and viewers across the globe and a twinkle to their toes - DNOAX has a great future - their music will appeal to a pretty wide audience and as this whole trip is properly promoted and it could very well come to pass that ‘they see revolution’ in hip-hop/rap music with the likes of the excellent DNOAX and their ‘world’ contemporaries. Most unusual but extremely pleasing stuff from a great sounding combo - pleasantly surprising and damn cool to partake of - DNOAX rock and that’s the truth!!

“I can think of many things that are commonplace today which I think are harder to justify than trepanation.
