What: Rock For Humanity 2008 charity concert in support of Street Health Toronto, On, Canada

When: Thursday July 10th 2008 at 9pm

Where: Sneaky Dee’s, Toronto, On

Toronto Is Ready To Rock For Humanity

Rock For Humanity, a registered non-profit organization will be hosting an evening concert at Sneaky Dee’s on July 10th, 2008 as part of their annual concert tour in support Street Health Toronto.

Featuring, “Dead City Citizens” (Kitchener), “Fifty Stars Anger” (Montreal), “Stop Drop n Skank” (Toronto), and “P.D.H” (Guelph), 100% of the proceeds goes directly to providing street level medical assistance to the homeless community of Toronto.

In Toronto, over 30,000 people check into homeless shelters at least once every year. 5000 of those people being children, and this figure is growing exponentially. People on the street are dying at an astonishing rate of between 2 and 4 every week and their average age is only a mere 46 years old. Even If someone is “lucky” enough to find a bed in one of the few shelters in Toronto that person faces mass overcrowding, tuberculosis, lice and a significantly increased threat of violence

Rock For Humanity is determined to bring homelessness to its knees through their music based events. Born out of a love of music and a passion for change, Rock For Humanity was created 5 years ago as a way for two 18 year old kids (at the time) to bring awareness to a growing national disaster.

“We love what we do and we love who we do it for,” says Jordan Howard, Co-founder of RFH. “We refuse to be known as the passive generation and it’s amazing to see the amount of people that truly care in this city. A few years ago I was in doubt, but now I see that there is actually a lot of hope”.

Rock For Humanity has grown from back room a bar endeavor to taking centre stage at some of Toronto’s most elite and famous concert venues. They have held concerts in every major city from Windsor to Ottawa and have raised thousands of dollars in support of their cause.

On July 10th Rock For Humanity will take centre stage yet again for its biggest and best concert to date. Tickets are available at the door for $5.00 and the event is 19 plus.

Ann Arbor, MI – Krescent 4 the hometown boys from Michigan are set to showcase their new album Emperor at the Ontario Independent Music Awards in Toronto November 15th, 2007 at The Phoenix Concert Hall. The event is also a charity event for The Toronto Wildlife Center. The band is very excited to be a part of the event, which supports indie music and charity with Rock ‘n’ Roll. The band will also be picking up a gig November 16 at The Savannah Room in Toronto.

K4 features Kris Keller (guitar), Stimy (vocals), Adam Nine (bass) and Kurt Keller (drums). They are a tightly knit unit that focuses on delivering powerful guitar licks to push their sound to an incredibly high energy level. It all boils down to Rock ‘n’ roll but it is too general a statement to explain the K4 sound. They also bring elements of metal to their sound, which gives them a much wider, decidedly younger audience.

This is the first annual Ontario Independent Music Awards (OIMA) at The Phoenix Concert Hall. Doors open at 7PM and show begins at 7:45PM.The brainchild of Martin Brown, founder and ex-producer of the Toronto Independent Music Awards, the show is a celebration of the magnificently varied and talented Ontario music scene. Starting small with a grassroots feel, and staying true to its mandate – the OIMAs celebrate this province’s music scene and provide exposure and recognition to artists in 20 different music genres. The show, consisting of handing out awards to the winners and a mix of performances follows a successful formula begun by Brown many years ago in California. His shows are based on integrity and an understanding of what independent musicians appreciate. Although the focus is squarely on the province where the event is being held, the country and the amazing talent pool they have, the award process is open to anyone from anywhere. With over 150 artists submitting their material in this, the first year, the organizers of the event are very encouraged by the support and expect that this show will grow into a highly anticipated annual event for the local independent community.

Besides K4 the artists appearing include Angie Nussey, Letters to Elora, The Polytones, Peter Verity, Broomfiller and The Randalls, with more to be announced within the next couple of weeks. This will be a free show but the audience is encouraged to bring items such as HE liquid detergent (unscented), paper towels, latex gloves, postage stamps, Royal Canin Adult dry dog or cat food, cash donations and other items.

Nathalie Karvonen, founder of this registered charity expressed pleasure that the Ontario Independent Music Awards is on board to help in the very worthwhile organization whose mandate is to rehabilitate sick, injured and orphan wildlife. The Toronto Wildlife Centre, Canada’s busiest wildlife centre also prides itself on educating the public about wildlife-related issues and relies entirely on donations and K4 is happy to be a part of this good cause.
