Gary Paul Bryant’s WildLife – musicdish

Recording from his home studio north of Seattle, Washington, Bryant reflects an evolving reality of today’s music industry, where artists who take advantage of new technology can build dynamic careers outside the mainstream.

“People are surprised to find that you can have a strong international fan base and a satisfying career operating in your own niche, a bit below the pop culture radar,” said Bryant.

After an early experience with the traditional corporate recording industry, Bryant began marketing and publishing his own material in the 1980s, a time when producing an album on your own could cost as much as buying a house and marketing meant hauling hundreds of vinyl albums to radio stations and retail outlets.

Then came the 1990s with new recording technology and, of course, the Internet. Music web sites like iTunes, Rhapsody and Napster gave musicians access to worldwide audiences and gave fans an unprecedented selection of genres and styles. Tech-savvy songwriters willing to adapt to the new medium found that making a living through music was no longer an unlikely dream. Bryant’s affinity for technology soon moved him from acoustic pianos and guitars to music workstations, sampling software and digital distribution.

“What really made it interesting for artists is that, in addition to all of the recording and performance gear going digital, support services like CD production, digital distribution and promotion were adapting to the technology in a big way,” said Bryant. One such company, CDBaby.com, founded in 1997 by musician Derek Sivers, has paid more than $80 million directly to artists.

Bryant’s first album, Just a Word, was digitally remastered and released as an anniversary edition in 2004. Seattle Times music critic Patrick MacDonald summed it up: “Exceptional piano work!”

In May 2005 came Imaginary Piano, a high-energy collection of jazz motifs, followed by a collection of original and classic Christmas piano solos, Midnight Clear.

Melding power rock with jazz and classical music, his 2007 project, Big World, reached the No. 1 Jazz spot at SoundClick.com, was featured Jazz selection at Garageband.com and made the Top 10 Jazz playlist at Broadjam.com.

Wildlife, released in August 2008, includes 13 upbeat instrumentals that combine classical, rock and jazz elements. It’s available from iTunes.com, CDBaby and other digital outlets. For information, visit http://www.GaryPaulBryant.com

“Rush Hour by Phillip Brooks Hits #1 Most Added in Radio & Records Indicator Charts First Week Out
Former Music Director for Wayman Tisdale is a “summer surprise.”

Phillip Brooks’ new single, “Rush Hour,” from his Just Between Us CD, hit the #1 Most Added in R&R Indicator Charts and SmoothJazz.com charts for the week of June 16, 2008. Carol Archer of Radio and Records said, “…check out keyboardist Phillip Brooks’ “Rush Hour” (Mojoy) for a delightful summer surprise.”

About the artist:

Phillip Brooks demonstrated a great deal of promise early in his career as a jazz pianist, keyboardist and producer. By the age of nine years old, this Detroit native had already began to write songs to his jazzy piano styling, and by his teens he was recording and performing live. These early performance captured the attention of many prominent musicians and producers like gospel recording artist and Stellar award winner Thomas Whitfield from Detroit Michigan, who took an interest in Phillip and his musical future.

Thomas began to introduce Phillip to many opportunities for showcasing his musical sound and style. To his musical fortune are recordings with gospel artist Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Reverend Paul Morton, Thomas Whitfield, The Soul Children out of Chicago, Illinois, and many others. Phillip also performed as a keyboardist with Commission and music director for Vanessa Bell Armstrong.

In 1994, Phillip’s musical resume began to expand outside the gospel genre as he was asked by Anita Baker’s producer Mike Powell to write music for recording artist Guess, which was released on Warner Brother’s record label. Phillip also toured with Mary J Blidge 411 Tour and the R&B group Silk (produced by Keith Sweat). In 2003, Phillip was contracted as music director for jazz artist and former NBA star Wayman Tisdale.

After touring the country with Wayman for three years, Phillip immersed himself in a solo contemporary jazz career. With a touch of old school and a silky compositional chemistry, his new release under the Mojoy Music Group is sure to be the musical elixir for the summertime blues. Carefree and romantically spirited, the songs in Just Between Us meld together to form a joyful sound that celebrates the spirit and embraces the heart.

Mike Cameo’s Indies Top 10 Collects Chart Topping Indie Artists Worldwide for Podcasts

To the rapidly changing and expanding universe of Indie pop music, a new website – Mike Cameo’s Indies Top 10 ( http://www.IndiesTop10.com ) – brings a tool for music fans to easily find, download, and listen to the best of the Indie best.

“Mike Cameo’s Indies Top 10 constantly scans the web checking the Indie charts and each month selecting the most-listened-to artists and their music,” says Edward Galt, chief executive officer of Graham Cracker Productions and producer of the Indies Top 10. “Great Indie music is being created from New Zealand and Australia to Japan, Sweden, and Spain – to name just a few places.

We’ve watched the charts of Indie music websites around the world, invited the most active and solid, and now gather the best music from our selected sites’ charts to bring you Mike Cameo’s podcast.”

In addition to the music itself, the website and podcast carries Indie music news and exclusive interviews with the Independent artists who are hitting the charts.

“I live my life in the music world,” says Mike Cameo. “But the amount of great Indie music being created everywhere on earth still surprises me. There is so much – it’s overwhelming. With more and more bands uploading their music to the internet – and new Indie charts going up daily, we decided there should be a “best of the best”. Every musician on the show is an exceptional artist who deserves the spotlight.”

“We’re having a blast! I research the Indies Top 10 selected sites. These are the sites that have a great standing with Indie musicians and do well in tracking who’s being listened to. We use these sites’ charts to create the Indies Top 10 shows – as well as news and exclusive interviews.”

“And… we always save OUR No. 1 selection for last.”

For March, Mike Cameo’s Indies Top 10 announces OurStage.com and IACMusic.com joining the Indies Top 10 selected sites. The Indies Top 10 selected sites also include SongPlanet.com, Garageband.com, CDBaby’s Top 10 Seller List, Broadjam.com, BoostIndependentMusic.com, IndieCharts.com, BBC’s UK Independent Top 30 and our final addition to be announced in April.

Mike Cameo’s Indies’ Top 10 is now available in iTunes.

On the cover of Shauna Burns‘ (www.shaunaburns.com) critically acclaimed 2005 breakthrough album ‘Every Thought’, the dynamic singer, songwriter and pianist looks off into the distance while holding a set of keys in her hand.

Those keys were a powerful metaphor for the overall story she told in her songs, about our unconscious minds coming to consciousness and the potential we all have within ourselves to take control of our own destiny. They also unlocked the door to an exhilarating career as one of the most promising multi-talents on today’s music scene—a spiritually driven journey that blossoms on her sophomore release, ‘The Moon and The Fire Circle,’ set for international release on February 19, 2008.

“Around You,” the debut single from her soon-to-be released album ‘The Moon and The Fire Circle’ debuted on the FMQB AC Chart in the Top 40 (#38) earlier this week. Adding to the good news, the single is also one of the “Most Added” on the FMQB AC chart for a third week in a row and is surrounded by such pop and rock notables as John Mayer, The Eagles and Colbie Caillat. “I’m so grateful that radio listeners are responding to my music,” explains Burns.

The singer’s blend of ethereal vocals and sweeping piano and percussion driven atmospheres launched the AAA singles “Pink Girl” and “Petunia” from Every Thought to major success in that format upon its release.

Over the past few years, Burns has enchanted audiences at clubs and Borders Stores across the U.S. and in the U.K. (where she toured early in 2007) with songs from her debut and its follow-up five song EP Desert Tune, which featured songs that overflowed from the first album’s sessions. Her first tour in support of her debut was 40 dates and her most recent jaunt covered 20 dates from coast to coast during the summer and fall of 2007.

A fascinating and richly detailed journey from the light to the dark and back to the light again, The Moon and the Fire Circle finds Burns taking us with her as we travel deep into the underworld of different points of view. “The twist in the story is who is telling us which is light and which is dark?” she says.

Burns’ Los Angeles fans and media industry will get the chance to see her perform cuts from The Moon and The Fire Circle at her official record release party on February 19th at The Mint. There will be an exclusive VIP/Media party at 7 pm, followed by a FREE!!! open to the public concert set beginning at 8 pm sharp. The Mint is located at 6010 W. Pico Blvd, 323-954-9400.

On Wednesday, 1/2/08, Webcaster Dan Herman announced his list of the top 100 independent-label/unsigned acts of 2007 to receive airplay on the long-running Internet radio program Radio Crystal Blue. This list was generated by Mr. Herman, the program’s creator and patron of independently released music.
http://www.radiocrystalblue.com

Wildflower Records alternative-country artist Amy Speace earned her first #1 position, having received the most airplay and exposure in 2007 on Radio Crystal Blue. Her CD “Songs For Bright Street” was released in 2006. Alternative rock duo Sirsy, who have just released their 9th disc “Revolution”, earned 2nd place. Acoustic recording artist Christine Havrilla (Boxrilla Music label) took 3rd place, largely on the strength of her 2007 CD, “Velocity”.

The annual airplay chart is an amalgamation of Mr. Herman’s quarterly airplay charts, which track progressive amounts of airplay over a 3- and 12-month period. The remainder of the top 10 of this list include: #4: Lourds (Breaking Records); #5: Tim Blane; #6: Amber Rubarth; #7: Taylor Davis; #8: Greg Klyma; #9: Ruth Gerson (Tompkins Square Records); #10: Catie Curtis (Compass Records).

In addition, Mr. Herman announces his list of top 10 CDs released in 2007. At the number one position is “Revolution” by Sirsy. Included in the top 10 are, #2: “Clockwork”, by Tim Blane, and #3: “Slow Southern Swing”, by Taylor Davis

Mr. Herman further updated his list of all-time top recording artists as heard on his show. Replacing the incumbent, MPress Records recording artist Rachael Sage, is Talisman Records recording artist Natalia Zukerman.

All 3 lists along with other notes about his top favorites can be read at http://www.radiocrystalblue.com/chart.html

Mr. Herman’s weekly radio show, Radio Crystal Blue, presents a unique look at both artists on indepedent labels and those that are just surfacing in popularity on the Internet. Shows are broadcast live on the Live365 network, Sunday evenings, from New York. Podcast versions, as well as streaming audio of archived shows, are kept for several weeks after the live shows.

Toronto-based, roots-calypso act Kobo Town is capping a pivotal year with their debut album ‘Independence’ being selected in Exclaim! Magazine “Year in Review 2007.” Picked as a Top 10 “Groove” Album of 2007, following Amy Winehouse and M.I.A., Independence was the only album by an unsigned act in the category. The band was also recognized by the 2007 Toronto Exclusive Magazine Awards with a Best World Song Award for “Corbeaux Following.”

“Lyrically and musically Kobo Town is a trans-national triangle that connects Toronto, Jamaica and Port-of-Spain, the sort of thing that could only happen now, here. Reaching back past soca’s hollow mainstream din, Kobo Town resurrects, reinvigorates and redefines calypso for the new millennium. Independence is an important album not only because of the editorial observations on post-colonial life and trans-border cultural connections but because it offers an almost forgotten music new life by coyly injecting it with a therapeutic blend of reggae, dancehall and dub. As such Independence comes with a promise: it’s well on its way to facilitating a belated introduction between Canada and the art of the calypsonian.” Brent Hagerman, Exclaim! Magazine

Since the November release of their much-acclaimed debut album Independence, Kobo Town has been performing major festivals across Canada, from the Montreal Jazz Festival to British Columbia’s Salmon Arm Roots and Blues Festival. The band has also been a regular of the Canadian Broadcast Corporation (CBC), including Canada Live, FUSE, Bandwidth and Big City Small World. Kobo Town is working on a follow up album for the Spring of 2008 and preparing for a U.S. tour. Named after the vibrant and turbulent neighborhood in old Port-of-Spain where Calypso was born, Kobo Town strives to recover the social conscience, satirical storytelling and strong acoustic/organic rhythms that characterized Trinidadian music in the past.

I heard about an artist who is making an impact in the music industry. I looked at the name and I said LOTANERV that name is fire let me check him out because when you hear somebody say you got a LOTANERV, the first thing that comes to mind would be is what could he be rapping about that makes that name fitting. So I googled this rappers name and the results lit up like a Christmas tree. I went from page to page and I clearly saw why his name is LOTANERV; one minute I was dancing, and the next minute I was immersed in the lyrical content. I listened to CAME UP, STAY STRONG, and WHAT IT DO, every track was intense, the lyrical content was intense, the music was popping. LOTANERV is media worthy.

LOTANERV is an independent artist who was born in Staten Island, New York and raised in every borough in New York City from 125th and Broadway (Harlem, New York), to South Side Jamaica Queens. He has a little bit of every hood in him. He made his debut in 1988 when he was featured on a single entitled “DREAMS” by “Cecile Grier” one year after his dad was tragically murdered. That is when he realized that rapping gave him a way to express his feelings. He has since made incredible power moves with his career. He has been in two groups Untold, as Naughty Child and as Infinity in S.M.F. He has opened for major acts such as Biggie Smalls, Az, Miss Jones, Lost Boys, Mad Lion, Krs 1 and Junior Mafia, although, he was very young during those times he made it his business to leave a mark where people would remember him on and off stage.

He is one of the top selling artist on Grier & Associates Entertainments Compilation Cd “RISING” and he has currently worked with FES TAYLOR and INSPECKTAH DECK on the track TEARZ that has since charted on WWW.HIPHOPGAME.COM and WWW.HIPHOPCRACK.COM.

His songs are charting on WWW.EMUSICBLAST.COM STAY STRONG #4, CAME UP #5, and WHAT IT DO #12 and also on WWW.OVERPLAY.CO.UK. CAME UP has been in the #1 position for three weeks. He has sufficient experience in the game to swing with the heavy hitters.

Grier & Associates Entertainment and Top Gunz Inc. are the marketing and promotions companies that are working very hard to promote this artist. He is about to drop a single on LESLAN RECORDS, which is a subsidiary of GRIER & ASSOCIATES ENTERTAINMENT; an Independent Record Label based in Las Vegas, NV.

Nerve has currently finished his album “WELCOME TO LOO YORK”, which features some of the hottest producers such as “Mike Check,” “K-Black”, “Heart Of The City”, and “K. Coasta”. Some of the featured artist are “Fes Taylor”, and Hue Hefna”. Keep a watch out for LOTANERV, there is much more. SIMPLY GOOGLE THIS ARTIST.
