Musical Starstreams, the internationally-syndicated radio program and full-time format of ethereal, spacey, futuristic, progressive, ambient, worldly, dubby, trip hop, acid jazz, downtempo, chill music (simply called “exotic electronica”) begins a seven day per week, nightly schedule tonight on WNUA, Chicago, the USA’s third largest national media market and streaming on WNUA.com.

Longtime WNUA MD and programmer, Rick O’Dell, said, “Starstreams has been ‘can’t miss listening’ for its legions of Chicagoland fans for 21 years on WNUA. And, for every listener who’s asked us over the years to ‘give us more,’ we finally have some good news with the new nightly broadcast of the show.”

Musical Starstreams originated and first aired in San Francisco on December 20th of 1981. Ronald Reagan had been our president for just eleven months, interest rates were in the double digits and recordings were sourced from vinyl and cassettes – there were no compact discs or digital music files.

After a brief stint in the Chicago market on WCKG, Starstreams first aired on a weekly basis on WNUA in November of 1987. In 1991, the program was nominated for a prestigious Billboard magazine award for Network/Syndicator Adult Program of the Year. Over the years Starstreams has aired on over 200 radio stations – including WNUA, KKSF San Francisco, KNTU Dallas, XM CHILL Channel 84, DirecTV and numerous satellite channels and the Internet at Starstreams.com, Live365.com and the top rated, full-time AMBIENT channel at radioIO.com.

Thousands of programs later, producer and host Forest has perfected and evolved a proven, unique mix of mid- to down-tempo “exotic electronica” — neither head banging techno, nor syrupy new age — and in the process Starstreams has consistently garnered top ratings and loyal listeners worldwide.

Musical Starstreams, the exotic side of radio, is offered without charge weekly, nightly or full time, on a barter basis, to radio stations worldwide.

When the guys in Chicago based band Low of the Low discussed titles for their upcoming summer CD release, tentatively titled “Land of Lincoln”, thoughts came to mind that reflected the band’s views on the current political state of the country, and the effect it has had on all of the band members.
http://www.myspace.com/lowofthelow

“We fumbled around a bit with various different titles for this album, but “Land of Lincoln” seemed to keep coming up whenever we talked about it,’” frontman Mark Crowley recalls. “Things are just out of control these days, politically. I mean, with songs like “Reduced to Zero” and “Amount to Anything”, highlighting the strangle hold the system has put on people, from rising taxes to the disillusioned war in Iraq, we wanted to name the record something to put a face on the faceless, give a voice to the voiceless and point out all of the corruption and greed in politics these days. So, we started right here at home with the good ‘ol “Land of Lincoln.” It was the only title that just seemed relevant on a local level for us, being from the ‘great’ state of Illinois,” Crowley laughed.

“We were a little leary about coming up with a name that invoked any reference to government or politics, but we just kind of threw it out there in a joking sort of way, as we all think of the current situation in politics, and it resonated with everyone in the band.”

The titles of the other tracks are just as telling. Crowley mentioned “Stone Survivor,” “I Think I Like It,” and “Twisted and Jaded” as other titles that made the cut.

“We’ve recorded about 14 tracks,” Crowley said. “Maybe eleven or twelve that we pick will go on the record once we are done mixing it.”

For their debut recording, Low of the Low –which also includes guitarists Pete Morelli and Paul Jagmanis, bassist Pat Sullivan and drummer Frank Schuck – enlisted former major label record producer John Sullivan, who now operates The Flood Zone (Studio) in Chicago, Illinois.

“We learned a lot from Johnny and his experiences in Loudmouth (Hollywood Records). To be honest with you, we also learned how corrupt the music industry is, which that’s why we decided to go this release alone. Man, I guess we really are “Twisted and Jaded,” laughed Crowley.

The band also plans on supporting the release with a fall tour, as well as a press campaign that contains a promo video that plays off of the current political landscape, just in time for the convening of the Democratic National Convention in Denver.

Independent Mexican folk music band Sones de Mexico Ensemble Chicago is not only living the American dream, but that of countless musicians, young and old, who simply have a deep commitment and love for the pursuit of their creative profession. They just garnered a 2008 GRAMMY Award Nomination for “Esta Tierra Es Tuya (This Land Is Your Land)” in the Best Mexican/Mexican-American Album Category for the upcoming 50th Annual GRAMMY Awards to be broadcast live from the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, California, on Sunday, February 10, 2008, 8:00pm (eastern) on CBS.

http://www.sonesdemexico.com/

Few artists not affiliated with a record label achieve a GRAMMY nomination, one of the most coveted recognitions in the music industry. Guidelines for voting members of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS) specify that they should vote based on music quality alone and not be swayed by an artist’s fame or commercial success. Indeed, Sones de Mexico Ensemble’s nomination in a category filled with Latin Music superstars; Vicente Fernandez, Pepe Aguilar, Cristian Castro, and Paquita la del Barrio, is a testament to the spirit of this competition and to the exceptional quality of their material. Only three months ago Sones de Mexico Ensemble was recognized with a 2007 Latin GRAMMY Award nomination for Best Folk Album and more recently with a 2007 North American Folk Music & Dance Alliance Award nomination for Best World Music Artist. Juan Dies, the group’s producer says “…it is a tribute to our guild. We stand on the shoulders of a rich, and largely unknown, musical tradition.”

ESTA TIERRA ES TUYA (This Land Is Your Land) – is an immigrant’s musical manifesto which uses over 50 instruments to create all-original arrangements that range from the traditional to the experimental, and from true-to-tradition “huapangos” and “son jarocho” to new hybrids of rock, classical and folk that include Mexican tributes to Woody Guthrie, J.S. Bach and Led Zeppelin. Music Director: Víctor Pichardo; Produced by: Juan Dies and Sones de Mexico Ensemble Chicago; Recorded at: Chicago Recording Company (CRC), Chicago, IL; Musicians: Victor Pichardo, Juan Dies, Zacbe Pichardo, Lorena Iniguez, Javier Saume and Juan Rivera.

ABOUT SONES DE MEXICO ENSEMBLE CHICAGO: Sones de Mexico Ensemble Chicago is a premier folk music ensemble specializing in Mexican “son”, including the regional styles of “huapango”, “gustos”, “chilenas”, “son jarocho”, and more. The group formed in 1994 to keep the tradition of Mexican “son” alive in its many regional forms. As a performer and recording artist, the ensemble has developed and popularized many original arrangements of Mexican traditional songs. Some of its original work has experimented cross-culturally with symphonic, Irish, folk, C&W, jazz, and rock music, though never abandoning its roots in Mexican “son”. The ensemble is also committed to teaching and has a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to music education. All band members reach out to young and old with award winning educational programs nationwide.

Beadz, the new phenom rap artist who is bringing excitement to the hip hop community in Chicago is doing it again. He can be seen performing throughout the hip hop clubs in the city and surrounding states with an explosive show which leaves everyone excited and screaming for more.

Known as the new “face Of Chicago” Beadz carries the name with humility. Behind his humbleness he talks about his upbringing from the streets and into the studio where he talks about the scars of growing up in Chicago. His stories leave a vivid imprint as if you are present watching a dynamic film of his rhymes and lyrics. Why he is different anyone asks, is because Beadz engulf you as if you are in the studio or on the stage with him while he is performing. He is truly a master at his craft.

His single “What It’s Hitting 4″ was chosen to represent sample of life in motion on the Hood Magazine Award CD Compilation this summer. Listen up for Beadz “Tha Face Of Chicago”.

Beadz, known as “Tha Face Of Chicago” in the hip hop world throughout the Chicago land area and surrounding states was interviewed by the largest Rap magazine in the south namely Hood Magazine for the Sept-Oct 2007 issue.

This is a testament that Beadz have developed a fan base throughout the Miami and Atlanta hip hop community. Being one of the premier artist in the rap community in Chicago, Beadz who began rapping and twisting words is famous for giving an explosive concert better than most Major label artists when he takes the stage. He is at the top of his game doing sometimes 3-4 shows every month which is unusual for an independent artist.

His album is getting readied for release next year which is very much anticipated in the hip hop community throughout the Mid West and now in the southern states. His hot singles including “What It’s Hittin 4″ as well as “I’m A D Boy” have gotten major reviews from Djs across the country as well as internationally. The single “What It’s Hittin 4″ made it to the Hood Magazine Award CD Mixtape as well as the “TjsDjs Tastemaker CD Exclusive” which is sent to exclusive Djs throughout the world with the hottest upcoming tracks to watch.

Based in Chicago with his crew Dog Mobb Ent., Beadz is ready to show the rest of the country and the world what we have known for many years and that he is truly the new face of Chicago.

September 11 2007, as each and every 9-11 for the rest of the days of our generation, is a special date, full of mixed emotions, bad memories, and fear for the future. However, there is always the need for a ray of light in a horizon darkened by violence and the stupidity of humankind, and mine for 2007 will have been Stevie Wonder.

Nothing but!

After Monday’s pouring rain that forced him to cancel his show, Stevie played yesterday evening in Chicago, and I was there. For the first time in my life, I eventually saw Stevie Wonder live. “A Wonder Summer’s Nights” is not the promotional tour for “A Time to love” but this song’s underlying message is clearly the one he conveyed yesterday (even though he didn’t play it). War and Hate within people’s hearts is simply unacceptable. Unacceptable! So let’s stand together as one, and tell them to stop it! Stop it! Going from this serious plea to lighter puns (I would have never imagined how hilarious he could be), from serious R&B/funky grooves to splendid ballads, he simply made us dream.

I am French, and it is the second time I live in Chicago. Chicago gave me all the Blues, Buddy Guy, Johnny Winter (he was here one night of ‘98), Koko Taylor, Eddie Clearwater, and the Rolling Stones and the Police. This time at Charter One Pavillion, I had my wife next to me, the Skyline of Chicago on my right, and Stevie Wonder in front of me.

A suspended moment in time. Thank you Chicago.

Everybody danced, everybody sang, everybody smiled, and everybody looked at each other with happiness in their eyes. I have never ever felt this way before at a concert, or any other show or form of art I have been exposed to.

That’s the way Music should be

That’s the way a concert should be

That’s the way a singer should be

That’s the way a Man should be

That’s the way we all should be

I’m almost spoiled this moment a bit by wishing very hard that it will never end, and I felt emptiness as soon as he left the stage. What are you supposed to do after this? He took us with him into a journey of over 2h30 in his life, his world, his music, and it felt like if we knew him better afterwards. His mother passed away about a year ago, and that’s why he had to cancel many of his professional projects, until he felt her tell him to “move his …. out of here” a couple of months ago. Within weeks, he put together this tour, because he wanted to thank his fans for having given him the possibility of offering a better life to his mother than that she would have otherwise had.

I could obviously go on and on about what has been my best 9-11 in a long time.

Stevie Wonder should be a religion….
