Gloria Cycles - 'Campsite Discotheque' released 5th April 2010 on A&G Records
The utterly intriguing Gloria Cycles release their debut album 'Campsite Discotheque' in April and it's a quite brilliant and inspired album.
Buy Music:
A gloriously quirky collection of twelve songs oozing with wit and charm, meaningful lyrics and blissful melodies, which twist and turn throughout, accompanied by blustery guitars and upbeat basslines.
The band postponed the release of the album after being offered a very exciting prospect from the producer of 'My Last Five Girlfriends', a Brit flick rom-com - released nationwide March 19th via Paramount - set to be the surprise smash hit of Spring.
The band's new video to upcoming single "Religious" (from the soundtrack of My Five Last Girlfriends) will also be shot by the director of the movie.
They've also been very busy bees touring Europe and more recently have seen their track "Wonderbus" appearing in a worldwide Samsung advert campaign and album track "Bag" being used on the new series of the hugely popular E4 smash drama Skins.
From the mod inspired psychedelic "Astronaut Swapshop" the eclectic pace never lets up. Previous single "Chancer" is insanely catchy and complete indie dance floor fodder while "New Law" has strong political messages that are disguised in playful, beguiling guitar rifts. At the other end of Gloria's spectrum is Jen Dalby's sweeter than honey vocals beautifully captured on "Diplomatic Dining Tables" and "Bag" and make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.
Listen to Gloria Cycles - Bag:
Gloria Cycles are, Glaswegian born Kenny McCracken (lead vocals and guitar), Julian Ward (lead guitar and vocals), Jack Hannan (Drums) and previously mentioned 6 foot sweet singing stunner Jen Dalby (bass and vocals). They've already charmed the likes of tastemakers at Radio 1 and spent most of last year playing their own brand of obscure pop to packed out audiences including 25,000 German music fans at Taubertal Festival, Offset and Great Escape.
The Brighton crowds have taken Gloria into their hearts. At hometown gigs fans cram themselves into venues and sing along to every word.
The band have a true DIY ethic, they make their own dazzling artwork, promote their very own club night in Brighton and also direct their own videos. The album is mixed by John Cornfield (Oasis, Stone Roses and Muse). Expect some very exciting festival announcements shortly.
