Parts of Speech release new album Floyd Biz
Parts of Speech is Kansas City duo Brandon Knocke (vocals, keyboards, programming) and Alexander Thomas (acoustic/electronic drums).
Though initially formed in late 2009 as a live vehicle for Knocke's solo electronic music, a more collaborative and organic sound evolved out of the creative pairing.
The results are sonically adventurous and moody, while the emphasis on groove and melody keep things accessible to a wide range of music listeners.
Brandon and manager/Overland Shark label runner Andrew Heuback rent a house on Floyd St, which is where the album was recorded. The practice space at the house is referred to as the Biz and is where all of the material was written.
The recording took place in the living room, which is depicted on the cover; this was achieved by filming the group play. The footage was then sent to California-based artist Max Capacity, who bounced the footage to VHS tape and manipulated it through various processing techniques. The album was mostly recorded live (at home obviously). The keyboards, sampler, programming, and drums were all done together live, with only the vocals and some small keyboard things overdubbed later.
The group is currently active in the Kansas/Missouri music scene, with plans to tour and produce additional recordings in the summer.
