Last Saturday I was at the Temple Bar in Oxford and a very young band by the name of Behaveya from Wycombe/Worcester was playing. The irony in all of this is that members of Behaveya are ages 10-17, and yet they were playing …

Last Sunday (March 23), I went to the New Theatre in Oxford for the Eels show. Before moving to England I didn’t know much about the Eels - even though the founder of Eels, Mark Oliver Everett, AKA E, is originally from Virginia and now LA. Here in England though, the handful of musicians that […]

Guillemots played downstairs at the Carling Academy Oxford on Monday, March 10th. I’ve seen them play quite a few times, and the set that they played Monday night was possibly one of their best.
Fyfe Dangerfield’s voice was on form, sailing through the high notes - and with Fyfe the notes do tend to get pretty […]

I had the pleasure of seeing Duffy play live at Carling Academy Oxford (Zodiac) Sunday night, March 9th. It was a sold out show, with Duffy and her 6-piece band performing upstairs. I was surprised that she wasn’t playing downstairs in the larger capacity venue. It was a bit snug upstairs, packed, but more intimate.
The […]

I have long been an admirer of Richard Hawley’s and am really pleased that he is finally receiving the recognition he deserves, having previously served on guitar duty with indie underachievers The Longpigs and the wonderful Pulp. His recent albums ‘Coles Corner’ and ‘Lady’s Bridge’ set the bar extremely high for the support act, who […]

Handsome Alcopoppers, meet Jamie, Jason, Darren and Neil from Oxford town - collectively known as The Family Machine. Mixing blissed-out melodic pop hits with indie-folk sensibilities, their particular brand of acoustic loveliness has been reported to have “made love to my ears in a sample infused urban folk dream” by one enthused onlooker …

One of the best things about discovering bands and listening to new music online is when you can turn what initially begins as a virtual experience into a live music experience. The first time that I heard Souljacker was on their Myspace page after I was tipped off by a friend to check them out …

I arrived at the Carling Academy Oxford just in time to grab a beer and see Manchester, UK based band Northern Uproar take the stage. I like their positive, upbeat punk influenced sound. They look good on stage together and it’s always good to see a bass playing vocalist […]
