Sia Tiambi Barnes
Producer Ahmir “?uestlove” Thompson of The Roots is featured on the cover of the first issue of DRUM! Digital, a free online version of DRUM! magazine. He breaks down why some websites have deemed their engineering sounds as “Public Enemy #1,” how a combination of Hurricane Katrina and “label limbo” caused The Philadelphia hip-hop collective to record their latest album, Game Theory, in their demo studio and why after two decades, he’s now going to perform with a full drum set. “The rhythms I’m feeling lately are more African-based, so now I play with additional toms. It gives me different colors. I can’t imagine how I was doing full-blown solos with just two drums. Now, the options are endless,” he said. The full issue of DRUM! Digital can be viewed at drum.idigitaledition.com.
