Details
Bloody Tourists came into being on the eve of 2005 when three friends, inspired by their love for The Fall, The Pixies and P.J Harvey, decided to write and perform. Lee Elkins (roomfuls of scattered lyrics and a newly acquired bass guitar) and James Cradock (love for the blues and a cheap second-hand squier) frequented the live music scene in Bath to find a drummer and discovered Dave Lawson (drums go bang and fag in hand). A month after forming Bloody Tourists had already come a very close second in Bath’s Battle of the bands and followed this accomplishment by winning a weekend recording in Brixton in London’s Battle of the bands. From this point on they used these recordings to get gigs all over the South of England from Portsmouth to Central London. Other awards include a £1200 first prize from a vote on littlebazzar.com as well as reaching the No.1 slot in the World Charts on extraplay.com. After a year of gigging to all and sundry they were eventually spotted by Killingmoon Records who later created a double A side 7” vinyl featuring two of Bloody Tourists’ tracks. It wasn’t long before they were playing alongside some notable bands including ‘ShitDisco’ and New York’s finest ‘The New York Howl’. The Tourists’ live set has been described as ‘outstandingly shameless and abrasive’ as well as ‘resembling that of the lovechild of The Libertines and The White Stripes.’
