Infadels are back. Two years on from their acclaimed debut, ‘We Are Not The Infadels’, their new album, ‘Universe In Reverse’ is the bands Youth produced crossover masterpiece. Bursting with energy, with growling guitar melodies and hooks in abundance. It is, in short, the definitive Infadels record. “Free Things For Poor People” is the big crossover track from the album, released 16th June, 2008.

Somewhere between playing over 300 gigs (from Europe to china and back again the long way around), the London five-some spent 18 months discovering the sounds that would grow to become a re-imagining of the Infadels sound.

With new beats and ideas pumping through their veins, the band (Bnann: vocals/guitar, Matt Gooderson: guitars/programmed keys, Wag Marshall-Page: bass, Richie Vernon: live keys / percussion, Alex Bruford: drums) returned home to write album number two. Inspired and determined, singer-songwriter Bnann began crafting new tracks on his acoustic guitar while co-composer Matt added thigh-twitching electronics to the already soaring melodies.

Second single and forthcoming on 16th June, is the anthemic, feel-good “Free Things For Poor People”, which began life as a t-shirt slogan conceived by keyboardist Richie. With a big chance of becoming a summertime chart-topper, it bounds along radiating positivity. Live, it’s already a firm favourite with its huge sing along melody. It’s backed with the raucous “Godzilla” and “Like Tomorrow & The Day Before”, both vigorously delivered and feature trademark cloud skimming hooks. The band have also done their own mixes to complete the package. Perfect for their DJ set’s. Expect to hear them played out soon.

As any music journalist will tell you, the most over-used band quotation is some variation on the following: “We make music for ourselves and if anyone else likes it, that’s a bonus.” “No,” says The Splendour drummer Sam Beer-Pearce, “We’re trying to make music people actually like. If you’re making it for yourself, why don’t you just do it at home in your bedroom.”

It is with this full intention to excite and entertain that The Splendour have built up a reputation as one of Brighton’s most exciting live acts, and with a debut album now recorded with Dan Swift, producer of Kasabian, Art Brut and Aqualung, they are ready to start taking on the rest of the UK.

The Splendour began when lead singer Justin Gourlay walked into a video rental shop in Brighton and found a bored Sam Beer-Pearce (now the bands falsetto-singing drummer) behind the counter strumming a guitar. John Crick (Guitar) and Greg Houghton (Bass) then joined and following a couple of name changes and in between selling fruit at Brighton market and dropping out of music college to bum about on the sea front and Sam playing keys for fellow locals The Pipettes, The Splendour was born.

Debut album, ‘The Best Way To Make Money’ is being released with the backing of ILS (Independent Label Scheme), the new venture from Catskills founder Jonny Reggae and top music lawyer Dean Marsh, which gives the band the infrastructure to release the album on their own Tinyclan imprint while providing experienced record label backing.

The debut album is due in August 2008 along with a full UK tour.

In the meantime, catch the band live as they play selective shows in Brighton and London leading up to the release of “Audio” and the accompanying video.

“Audio” is set for release June 2nd, 2008 on Tinyclan Records.

Upcoming Shows
26th May, 2008 - **Audio Single Launch*** @ Hectors House, Brighton

The Splendour have also been asked to play a special acoustic set for Phil Marten (Turin Brakes) at The Joogleberry. For more information, go to their website or Myspace.

Signed to A&M Records in the US in the late eighties, Denise Lopez is an artist who is better remembered for her spectacular vocal range than her US chart success, despite an impressive discography which includes two solo albums to proudly boast of. In 1990 her infectious single “Don’t You Wanna Be Mine” peaked at #86 on the Billboard Dance Chart, with the awesome remix from talented production duo Robert Clivilles and (the late) David Cole (better known to most as C&C Music Factory) almost going unnoticed.

Meanwhile, across the Atlantic, an entire nation was in the grip of an epidemic as the acid house explosion continued to sweep its way across the UK. The trip along the M6 to Shelleys Laserdrome in Stoke-on-Trent had become a regular jaunt for an ever-expanding army of overzealous clubbers in the Midlands and the North, hungry for a weekly fix of an atmosphere so potently unique that it still remains largely unparalleled to this day.

The main attraction at the club was a home-grown talent who would later go on to become one of the world’s most respected and best-loved DJs of the superstar era. Though it never received a full commercial release in the UK, “Don’t You Wanna Be Mine” was fast becoming a huge underground dance anthem, explicitly championed by their man of the moment, whose rare imported promo copy of this particular record never left his box. That DJ, whose word-of-mouth reputation as a first-class entertainer was spreading as quickly as the scene itself, was known simply to most as SASHA.

Back to the present and whilst Shelleys nightclub has long since been knocked down (to be replaced, all too ironically, by a low budget supermarket chain) its legacy lives on forever in the minds of those who worshipped it. Thankfully, the advent of the digital era has made reliving the potent highlights of this era possible; youtube features video clips that capture the very essence of the club’s magnetism and old-skool websites allow early Sasha mixtapes to be exchanged and replayed freely, with rumours abound that they may one day yet be fully re-masterered and commercially released. Message board threads feature tracklistings of all his treasured sets from rave events nationwide, in which “Don’t You Wanna Be Mine” is a constant and permanent fixture; frequently referred to as the best vocal house anthem of all time and lest we forget, one of the most sought after, even to this day.

Watch Denise Lopez - “Don’t You Wanna Be Mine” video:

Having delved deep into the vaults of A&M Records in the US to recover the original master tapes, House-Trained is both proud and excited to finally make this very special gem available in the UK for commercial release. With an explosive modern-day electro-style remix that uses the original vocal to devastating effect, coupled with previously unreleased snippets of acapella that never appeared on the original, this long-lost dancefloor nugget of yesteryear is set to be propelled into the 21st Century to finally become a mainstream floorfiller and a (long overdue) future dance anthem.

“…turn around, make your move, wait for love and you might lose…”

“Don’t You Wanna Be Mine” - the nineties underground classic for the noughties generation - set for release 16th June, 2008.

The Neptunes have certainly been making their mark in the music industry. Whether some of your favourite songs over the years have been hip hop, pop, rock or funk, there’s a good chance the The Neptunes, Grammy Award-winning producers and songwriters Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo, have been at the helm. Together with their long-time friend and creative wunderkind Shae Haley, they make up one of music’s most innovative groups: N*E*R*D.

N.E.R.D’s third album ‘Seeing Sounds’ is released on June 9th, 2008 through Star Trak/Interscope Records. The album’s first single “Everyone Nose (All The Girls Standing In The Line For The Bathroom)” is out in the UK July 7th.

‘Seeing Sounds’ is the follow-up to the group’s 2004 platinum-selling album ‘Fly Or Die’, which peaked at #4 and featured the smash-hit single “She Likes To Move” which charted at #5 in the UK charts.

“Everybody Nose”, the first single from the new album, is a prime example of N.E.R.D’s genre-defying music, with its mad refrain “All the ladies standing in the line for the bathroom!”. The track is driven by a thundering bass that gives way to a deep, drum-heavy rhythm track; the song careers between the head-nodding bravado of hip-hop and the body-moving energy of dance or punk music.

The new album ‘Seeing Sounds’ is a blistering mash-up of booming hip-hop beats, rollercoaster rock riffs, rumbling crunk rhythms and scintillating soul music. A song like “Killjoy” moves at a quick clip, with a fierce percussive breakdown serving at its emotional centre.

“Anti-Matter” moves through several different tempos, flirting with psychedelic guitar funk and a dirty south bounce. “Spaz” has the complex rhythms of Indian music before eventually giving way to noisy breaks. “Sooner or Later” evokes the elegance of ’60s UK pop, while “Yeah You” is a first-person account of having a female stalker and flirts with smooth, ’70s soul-jazz.

“We don’t care about genres. Why would we?” says Pharrell of the group’s third album. “For us, it was just about being what we are. We aren’t limited by anything other than our imaginations and what we feel, so why would we make music packaged into a little box?”

Watch N.E.R.D “Everyone Nose (All The Girls Standing In Line For The Bathroom)” video:

N.E.R.D are currently wowing fans on Kanye West’s Glow In The Dark tour in the US.

The band will be bringing their energetic live shows to the UK in June 2008:

The Next Single

On June 23rd, 2008 Manchester band The Courteeners are set to continue their amazing story for 2008 with the release of a new single. “No You Didn’t, No You Don’t” will feature a collection of covers as exclusive B-sides giving an insight into the four piece’s key influences that have shaped the band being heralded as the saviours of their home city’s proud music scene.

Meeting Your Heroes

It’s been a year of amazing moments for Liam Fray and co. Not only did the band get to meet Bono and The Edge of U2 when Liam followed them on to the stage at the Union Chapel for a solo set in aid of MENCAP but the band were in awe at the appearance of Morrissey at a recent London show. A major influence on all the members, Morrissey is now a confirmed fan and the band will play at the O2 Wireless Festival on the same day as the man himself.

Chart Success

When their debut album, ‘St. Jude’ crashed into the UK Top 5, there was a sense of vindication for the band given that they had spent the last twelve months playing up and down the UK to ever increasing crowds. Pre signing the band had already sold out the Manchester Academy 3, now they find themselves heading towards two very special nights in October at their home town’s world famous Apollo Theatre.

The Summer Beckons

Before that October jaunt, the boys will be coming to a field near you with confirmed appearances at Glastonbury, O2 Wireless Festival, Oxegen, T In The Park and V 2008.

“No You Didn’t, No You Don’t” is released by A & M on June 23rd, 2008

Russian superstar Sergey Lazarev is in my good books, indeed. He’s taken time out for not one, but TWO interviews with me for Band Weblogs.

Read the first exclusive Sergey interview.

Sergey is currently in London on a promo tour in support of his latest single, “Girlfriend” and upcoming album, ‘TV Show’. “Girlfriend” is a winner, made up of pure pop, quality production and Sergey’s voice sounds great. The track is a bit reminiscent of Justin Timberlake, to give you an idea of what it sounds like if you haven’t heard it yet. You can check out the video at the bottom of the interview.

Jenny May: “Girlfriend” is a great song - as well as the remixes. Did you enjoy the making of the video, dancing with all the girls?

Sergey: Yes very much!! It was shot in London and all the girls are stunning models from all over the world including Nigeria and Australia. I still stay in touch with a few girls from the shoot!

You’ve been in the UK recently on a promo tour. How has that been going? What have you been doing in your spare time in the UK when not working?

Everything is going brilliantly but sadly the only problem is that I don’t have any spare time. I seem to know everything about English hotels now - and I have been constantly touring and promoting my new single “Girlfriend”.

Do you have a favorite song at the moment, that you’ve been performing live?

The one that seems to be getting an amazing reaction is the new track Girlfriend and I have introduced something new to the live performance. Something a little bit naughty but nice in the form of a very attractive female dancer that I dance with!! Also I have been nominated for the male artist of the year at MUZ TV awards in Russia and will probably perform Girlfriend there and have a few surprises on stage for the audience.

Are you a big football fan?

Yes I support Spartak Moscow.

What do you think of the historic Champions League, all English final happening in Moscow tonight? Will you be supporting Manchester United or Chelsea?

Definitely Chelsea!

Where will you be watching the game?

I have actually rearranged all interviews for this evening and will be watching it in my hotel suit with my security! I have just done an interview with Talk Sport and just sang the Chelsea anthem in Russian. Anybody that tunes into talk sport now should hear Blue is the Colour in Russian.

Do you have a favorite player? If so, why is he your favorite?

Andre Satvchenko as he is a brilliant tactician.

You told me in our last interview that you stay in touch with Julia and Lena from t.A.T.u. Have you seen their new video for “White Robe” (watch video) yet? If so, what do you think?

Yes I have seen both videos they made. One is for the day time television audience the other is a bit more late night! I like the late night version as it has a cooler feel!

Do you have a message that you would like to send out to your fans?

I am looking forward to meeting you all and hope you come and see me in Birmingham and Newcastle and come and see me perform my new single Girlfriend.

We had an impromptu Billy Idol night here on Monday. We can blame it on the fact that “Hot In The City” was played on one of the digital radio stations that I was listening to during the day. Later on, I found the video whilst we were drinking red wine and then proceeded on to a few more Billy Idol videos on YouTube.

I don’t think I ever gave enough credit to “Hot In The City” over the years. It’s a really good song. I love how it just grooves during the chorus - and the bass sounds awesome.

Watch “Hot In The City” video:

Can you believe it was released in 1982?

We also listened to a great Billy Idol and Steve Stevens acoustic version of “Rebel Yell”. Steve Stevens is a wicked rhythm and lead guitar player. And Billy has still GOT it.

Watch “Rebel Yell” acoustic video

In the last couple of years, I’ve been introduced to Billy’s punk band from 1976, Generation X via DVD. It’s so cool seeing Billy Idol as a kid, starting out with such raw, live punk performances. There’s one song on the DVD with Sid Vicious standing in the background, hanging out at the Generation X gig, which is interesting to see.

After searching around, I found out that Billy Idol has a new album coming out - ‘The Very Best of Billy Idol: Idolize Yourself’, set for release on June 24, 2008. Maybe that’s why “Hot In The City” was on the radio.

The Music has a new video out for their upcoming single, “Strength in Numbers”, the lead track from their album of the same name.

Consistently one of the most incendiary live bands in the UK, the Leeds-based band released their much-acclaimed self-titled debut album in 2002 and quickly established themselves as an original and exciting musical force. This was followed in 2004 by their second long-player, ‘Welcome To The North‘.

Both albums combined have sold in excess of one million copies worldwide and the band have enjoyed considerable live success; they have headlined festivals as far a field as Japan and Australia, toured extensively in the US and Europe and played stadium shows alongside the likes of U2, Oasis & Coldplay.

Sold-out gigs in the UK, including multiple nights at Brixton Academy and memorable events such as their triumphant show at Blackpool’s Empress Ballroom, saw scenes of mass adulation from their loyal and very passionate fan-base.

Following months of internet rumour - some true, most not; some started by the band, most not - Weezer have revealed details of their new long-player, which for the third time in the band’s six-album history, will be titled simply ‘Weezer’.

Whether by accident or design, Weezer have released an eponymous record every seven years. In 1994 their debut, since christened ‘The Blue Album’, broke through on the back of worldwide hit “Buddy Holly” (watch video).

‘The Green Album’ followed in 2001, propelled by alterna-smash “Hash Pipe” (watch video), and now ‘Weezer’, already being referred to as ‘The Red Album’, looks set to continue that trend.

‘The Red Album’ not only marks Weezer’s clean sweep of the primary colour chart, but also a high point in the band’s 14-year evolution, and the moment where the band realises its power pop dream. The Jacknife Lee-produced lead single, “Pork and Beans”, is released in the UK on 23 June, 2008.

Riding a wave of frontman Rivers Cuomo’s passive-aggressive power-chord power-play, the song set the internet ablaze when it leaked in early April and is already being regarded as a masterpiece by fans and the internet mafia. It is joined on the album by nine other soon-to-be classics, including the epic slacker-cum-prog rock of “The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations on a Shaker Hymn)”, arguably the most ambitious Weezer song ever committed to tape. There are also two UK-only bonus tracks: covers of Talk Talk’s “Life Is What You Make It” and “The Weight” by The Band.

‘The Red Album’ is the first Weezer long-player to feature all four members contributing songwriting credits and singing lead vocals. “Automatic” is written and sung by drummer Pat Wilson, whilst guitarist Brian Bell delivers “Thought I Knew”. Meanwhile, bassist Scott Shriner co-wrote “Cold Dark World” with Rivers.

The full tracklisting is:

1. Troublemaker
2. The Greatest Man That Ever Lived (Variations on a Shaker Hymn)
3. Pork and Beans
4. Heart Songs
5. Everybody Get Dangerous
6. Dreamin’
7. Thought I Knew
8. Cold Dark World
9. Automatic
10. The Angel and the One
11. The Weight (UK Bonus Track)
12. Life Is What You Make It (UK Bonus Track)

Comprised of sessions produced by Rick Rubin, Jacknife Lee and the band themselves, the album is undeniably Weezer, playing like a particularly satisfying pick n’ mix of the band’s finest moments from the aforementioned primary colour albums, and the intervening long-players Pinkerton (1996), Maladriot (2002) and Make Believe (2005).

The album ‘Weezer’ is out in the UK on 9 June, 2008 (digital) and 16 June (physical).

The single, “Pork and Beans”, follows on 23 June via Geffen/Interscope via Polydor

Birmingham-born singer songwriter Bryn Christopher is bringing old-school soul bang into the 21st century with his first release “The Quest” out in the UK June 9th, 2008 through Polydor Records.

Watch The Quest video

Bryn Christopher was born to sing. He’s a naturally charismatic performer with a voice like a runaway freight train. His talent got him the sought-after support slot on Amy Winehouse’s tour at the end of last year while he was still totally unknown. More recently the intriguing, elegant 22-year-old has been snapped up by one of the biggest live agents in the US - William Morris. Cue rumours of insurance figures for those vocal chords.

His first single, “The Quest” perfectly showcases his incredibly powerful and effusive voice over a haunting Hammond organ melody, the lyrics for which he wrote on his mobile phone. The theme of the song is powerful stuff too, drawing on his brother’s personal experience as a soldier stationed in Basra.

Bryn teamed up with co-writer/producer Jarrad Rogers and production supremos Midi Mafia (Jennifer Lopez, Talib Kweli, Nelly) to make his debut album ‘My World’ which will be released in late August 2008. Midi Mafia recently secured the exclusive rights to use samples from the infamous Stax Records Catalogue and have used some of these for the first time ever on Bryn’s album, making it a rare gem indeed.

He’s been hosting a residency at North London’s live spot The Boogaloo throughout April and he’s also due to play at this summer’s Wireless festival in Hyde Park on the same day as Jay Z, as well as being confirmed for T in The Park, Oxygen and The V Festival. More live dates below:

Bryn Christopher May 2008 UK live shows:

May 16th - The Great Escape @ The Red Rooster, Brighton
May 23rd - The Flapper Birmingham
May 29th - YoYo @ Notting Hill Arts Club London
May 31st - Academy, Oxford

It’s hard to believe that ‘Wanderlust’ is Gavin Rossdale’s first ever solo album. As former lead singer of Bush, one of the biggest post grunge bands on the planet and the husband of pop icon Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale has lived most of his adult life in the spotlight with others. But now for the first time he stands alone. A big step but one he was more than ready to take.

“I’m on the gang plank”, he says “but I feel totally emancipated because there’s a sense of me being able to write myself back in to music on my own terms.” And after years suspended in a high profile, musical wilderness, Rossdale brings it all back home with this vivid, widescreen rock album.

Working with legendary producer Bob Rock (Metallica, Aerosmith) in his home studio in Maui, Gavin has written and produced the most mature, sensual, honest and compelling album of his career.

‘Wanderlust’ combines a mix of genres and styles; from the anthemic, guitar driven rock of the first single “Love Remains The Same” and “Can’t Stop The World” to the heavier sounds of “Another Night In The Hills” and “Frontline”, this album is the most personal and direct set of songs Gavin Rossdale has delivered to date. He has moved beyond his past in a massively popular band and has used the opportunity of going solo to stop hiding; to explore his life both lyrically and musically.

For Gavin, ‘Wanderlust’ isn’t about a longing to travel and see the world, it’s about an overwhelming desire to get out and play music for people again and that’s what he’s planning to do.

“Love Remains The Same” single is set for release on Interscope through Polydor Records in the UK on June 2nd, 2008 with ‘Wanderlust’ the album to follow on June 9th (US - June 3rd, 2008).

There’s no mistaking that 2008 is shaping up to be an incredible year for OneRepublic. They already have two top five smash hit singles - “Apologize” and “Stop and Stare” - under their belt. Their debut album ‘Dreaming Out Loud’ peaked at #2 in the UK album charts, shipped Gold in its first week of release and has stayed in the Top Ten for six weeks straight.

Proving that there are more hits stashed away in their locker, this summer OneRepublic return with their stunning third UK single “Say (All I Need)” released June 2nd, 2008 through Mosley Music Group/Interscope Records. The B-side will be a striking version of Duffy’s “Mercy”, which the band covered on Jo Whiley’s Live Lounge.

Watch OneRepublic - “Say (All I Need)” video:

“Say (All I Need)” is a spine-tingling rock ballad, and is produced by Greg Wells. The video to accompany the single was shot against the romantic backdrop of Paris and features a cameo from rocker Chris Cornell.

OneRepublic will be playing a sold-out show at Shepherds Bush Empire on May 12th, 2008 having already impressed fans at their packed-to-the-rafters debut live show at Kings College London last month.

Also cementing their status in the UK, they’re confirmed to play this year’s Radio One’s Big Weekend as well as the Channel 4 stage at V2008 sharing the bill with artists like The Courteeners, Kaiser Chiefs and The Zutons.
