NPR Music is streaming a new album of live recordings from the complex and unpredictable singer Bjork, one week ahead of its official release.

Her new album, ‘Voltaic’, is available for free, on-demand listening now through June 30, 2009 at npr.org/music, as part of the site’s “Exclusive First Listen” series.

Bjork, the 13-time Grammy nominee from Iceland, released her sixth album, ‘Volta’, in 2007. Before embarking on what would become a two-year-long tour to promote the record, Bjork and her band held a recording session at Olympic Studios in London.

‘Voltaic’ collects those live-to-tape recordings, which includes selections from Volta and several previous albums: Medulla, Homogenic, Post and Vespertine. The entire album can be streamed now at NPR Music, where there is also a video of Bjork performing “Declare Independence.”

Complete track listings and album information are available at NPR Music, as well as an extensive Bjork archive of music, reviews and a live concert.

NPR Music introduced its “Exclusive First Listen” series last year with Bob Dylan’s 2-CD set Tell Tale Signs. The series is now one of the site’s most popular features, and has offered pre-release streams of albums from artists such as Regina Spektor, Moby, Leonard Cohen and the Dirty Projectors.

The “Exclusive First Listen” series is one feature of NPR Music, a free, multimedia music discovery Web site at npr.org/music. The site offers content from NPR and 12 NPR Member public radio stations, including live performances, studio sessions, first listens to new albums, interviews, reviews and blogs. The site’s continuously expanding sections are dedicated to rock/pop/folk, classical, jazz/blues, world and urban music.

NPR Music culls from NPR’s and the stations’ extensive music archives to present thousands of features; more than 250 new features are added to the site every month.

Antony and the Johnsons have just released a trailer for the title track from their forthcoming EP ‘Another World’ (October 7, 2008 Secretly Canadian).

On ‘Another World’, Antony lists things he treasures about the natural world, and expresses that he will miss them; the result is hypnotic and affecting, with the accompanying video reflecting the song’s theme.

Watch the Trailer:

Antony and the Johnsons emerged onto the international stage in 2005 with their breakthrough ‘I Am A Bird Now’. The group were awarded the Mercury Prize in the UK and toured the world.

Since then Antony has collaborated on tracks with Bjork for her latest album ‘Volta’, appeared in the Leonard Cohen documentary I’m Your Man, featured as vocalist with Hercules and Love Affair, recorded for the Todd Haynes bio epic of Bob Dylan I’m Not There, and collaborated with Charles Atlas on a European tour of their stage spectacle Turning.

Now Antony and the Johnsons have emerged with a new album, ‘The Crying Light’, which will be released January 2009. “Another World” is the first single, and it will be released as part of the five-song ‘Another World’ EP.

The EP ‘Another World’ also includes “Shake That Devil”. Part exorcism and part Shangri La, Antony calls out perpetrators, and banishes them one by one.

Two other songs, “Crackagen” and “Sing For Me” are pastoral and surreal. Finally the epic “Hope Mountain” closes the EP; an episodic narrative set after a flood; people gather on a mountainside to witness a girl walking on the water.

Another World Tracklist:

1. Another World
2. Crackagen
3. Shake That Devil
4. Sing For Me
5. Hope Mountain

Now in it’s sixth year, there’s a dramatic difference in size since the first Sasquatch Festival when bands String Cheese Incident, Ben Harper, Jack Johnson, Galactic, Blackalicious, Maktub and Soulive played at the event.

The 2007 Sasquatch! Music Festival will feature over 50 bands and artists on 3 stages, which shows they’ve come a long way since 2002:

With more acts to be announced. Lineup could change, go to the Official Sasquatch Festival Website for latest information!

On the Sasquatch! Music Festival Myspace page there are mixed feelings regarding the 2007 festival lineup. Some disgruntled fans are leaving comments suggesting that they’re unhappy with the acts and that the bands aren’t a big enough draw to attend the festival compared to the last couple of years. On the other hand, some fans are applauding the lineup as they’re happy to see more Northwestern bands included at the festival, which is located in the Pacific Northwest, USA.

Interesting debate. I haven’t had the pleasure of attending the Sasquatch Festival, but looking at images of the Gorge Amphitheatre – it’s picturesque surroundings would be enough to get me there, let alone the music. If I could go, I would look forward to hearing some of the up and coming bands, and being introduced to new music from the area as well as the more well known names. If you can get there, consider yourself very lucky indeed.

Someone who attended the festival last year took the time to put together a video slideshow set to the music of The Shins, which is up on YouTube:

After taking a year off, there seems to be even more of a sense of anticipation in the air than usual surrounding the upcoming Glastonbury Festival which will be taking place in Glastonbury, England on June 22-24, 2007.

So far Chumbawamba has been confirmed to play and now the NME has managed to get festival founder Michael Eavis to disclose that Bjork, Arctic Monkeys and Arcade Fire are playing. The Who also looks set to be there as possible headliners, which should be a treat if that is the case.

Until the actual lineup is posted on the Glastonbury Festival Website the speculation game is in full force. We are only left with our imaginations to think about who could be headlining each night on the big stages, who could be playing in the smaller tents and as the bigger names trickle in, to wonder how fast the tickets will sell out.

Speaking of tickets there’s a new system in place. There’s now a pre sales registration for ticket buyers. If you want to go then you have to register between February 1st and 28th, 2007 for April 1st when tickets go on sale. For more information please go to www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk.
