Elton John makes guest appearance on new Alice In Chains album

Rock legends collaborate on title track for highly anticipated new Alice In Chains album Black Gives Way To Blue

Album in stores September 29th

Among the many highlights on ‘Black Gives Way To Blue’, the highly anticipated new album from ALICE IN CHAINS, is a special guest performance by Elton John.

The two rock legends collaborated on the album’s stunning title track, “Black Gives Way To Blue,” a heart-stirring tribute to Alice In Chains’ late lead singer Layne Staley.

The album arrives in stores September 29, 2009

“We were thinking about adding piano to the track and a friend suggested we call Elton,” recalls guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell. “I remember laughing and saying, ‘Yeah, I’ll get right on that.’ But I decided it was worth trying and wrote Elton an email explaining what that song means to us – that it’s a real, raw openhearted song for Layne. We sent him the track and got a call shortly after saying he thought it was beautiful and that he wanted to play on it. We were blown away. Elton John is a huge influence on me as a songwriter and having him on that song is an amazing honor for us.”

“I’ve long been an admirer of Jerry Cantrell and when he asked me to play on ‘Black Gives Way To Blue,’ I was very flattered and couldn’t resist,” says Elton John. “It was a great recording session with Alice In Chains for a beautiful song.”

About the collaboration, Cantrell says, “Elton was finishing his Red Piano run in Vegas, so we flew there and hung out for a few hours. Walking into a studio and seeing the sheet music for that song on Elton’s piano made it meaningful on so many different levels. The whole experience was pretty magical.”

BLACK GIVES WAY TO BLUE is Alice In Chains’ first new studio release in more than 10 years.

The quartet (guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell, drummer Sean Kinney, bassist Mike Inez and guitarist/vocalist William DuVall) recorded the album with producer Nick Raskulinecz (Rush, Foo Fighters) at Studio 606 in Northridge, CA and Henson Studios in Hollywood.

Take yourself back in time to when shoulder pads were cool (with a side pony tail) and white socks were a must on a night out!

The next in the critically acclaimed 12″/80’s series will bring back in sharp fluorescent clarity those lost memories of that first school dance, that first cheeky snog behind the bike sheds and that unmistakeably great feeling of ‘being on the inside’ with the purchase of a 12″ vinyl remix. 12″/80’s Love is set for release on 11th February 2008 on Family Recordings.

The first disc is the perfect a compliment for tweaking your mullet or heating the rollers in preparation for an 80’s date. Infamous pop tracks such as Spandau Ballet – “True”, ABC – “All Of My Heart” and Elton John – “Nikita”, continuing with Frankie Goes To Hollywood – “The Power Of Love” and ending with Art Of Noise – “Moments In Love”.

Check your trilby hat for a bit of soul in preparation to ‘Move Closer’ with the second CD. You’ll be grooving away to Barry White – “Never Never Gonna Give You Up”, SOS Band – “Just Be Good To Me” and LL Cool J, “I Need Love” in no time. And disc 3 gives you every last slow dance you’ll ever need (how many dates owe themselves to 12″s rather than 7″s!) with last dance heroes Lionel Ritchie – “Stuck on You”, Kool & The Gang – “Cherish” and the king of them all, Fat Larry’s Band – “Zoom”.

Extended mixes for extended stimulation can only be 12″/80’s Love!

With the first two albums selling over 350k copies between them, UMTV have put together another brilliant album of the best songs of the year – ‘Essential Songs 2008′, set for release in the UK on 3rd December 2007.

Now that the end of the year is in sight, it’s time to sit back and reminisce about the good times of 2007 and get ready to see in the New Year. What better way to do this than by listening to the biggest essential songs of the year?

The track list reads like a who’s who of pop royalty. From the shiny new, to the classic greats. Starting with the come back kings Take That and their massive new hit “Rule The World” (from the hit movie Stardust), moving onto the collaboration between modern day diva Amy Winehouse and superstar producer Mark Ronson with the track “Valerie”. With new blood from the Coronation Street heartthrob Richard Fleeshman, and classics from legends Oasis, The Cranberries and Paul Weller, CD 1 really does have something for everyone.

The second CD opens with the exclusive of pop prince Mika’s new track “Happy Ending” and carries on with an eclectic mix of songs from artists old and new, with girl power being added by Feist and her catchy “1234″ and Mutya Buena with “Real Girl”.

If that isn’t enough to entice you, ‘Essential Songs – 2008′ also includes tracks from some of the finest artists in the world including The Killers, Nelly Furtado, Embrace and Pop royalty Elton John.

John Barrowman, much loved actor, singer, TV and West End star releases his highly anticipated new album ‘Another Side’ on November 12th, 2007 on Sony BMG.

‘Another Side’ is an album full of classic songs. They are songs that John has wanted to record for many years, all of them having had a personal meaning or connection in his life and career. Across a number of musical genres, but predominantly sumptuous, streamlined pop, he lends his rich vocals to, amongst others, Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time”, Elton John’s “Your Song”, Chicago’s “If You Leave Me Now” and Billy Joel’s “She’s Always A Woman To Me”.

“All Out Of Love” is an epic ballad featuring intense, soaring strings. “Weekend In New England”, a Barry Manilow classic; “Feeling Good” is a nod to a bygone era, with a wonderfully late night supper club feel, and “All By Myself”, is the perfect finale, a tribute to Eric Carmen’s masterful original.

John Barrowman is a unique actor, singer and presenter. He is best known on British TV as Captain Jack Harkness in BBC’s Doctor Who and it’s especially created spin-off series Torchwood. In the last year alone he has been on a variety of primetime television shows, whether judging on the award winning BBC1 entertainment shows How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria? and Any Dream Will Do, as a celebrity skater on the ITV show Dancing On Ice, and a hugely amusing and memorable guest on The Jonathan Ross Show, The Friday Night Project and Never Mind the Buzzcocks. He has also starred in many top West End productions including Miss Saigon, Beauty & The Beast, Grease! And The Phantom Of The Opera.

His standing with the British public is such that he was recently proclaimed ‘a national treasure’ by The Times. Now, he has returned to his first love, music, and to commit his favourite songs to record.

As John himself says:

“I see myself being very different from the average singer. I have released records before, but this is my first for a mainstream audience. But I do want to make it absolutely clear here and now: I am not trying to be a pop star. I’m just trying to make a high quality album full of songs that I hope people would want to hear me sing. For those who only maybe know me from television, I’d like them to discover another side of me.”

‘Another Side’ Tracklisting:
