Released August 3rd 2009

THE BIGGEST names, and the LOUDEST tracks – it could only mean one thing… KERRANG!
Spanning 2 explosive CDs, CD 1 focuses on the rock and punk and includes the huge “Know Your Enemy” by Green Day, Billy Talents new single “Rusted From The Rain” and the rawkus “Juggernauts” by Enter Shikari.

Kerrang! Editor Paul Brannigan had to say of the album:

“Kerrang! has changed the lives of three generations of rock fans across the globe… but we’re not about to wallow in nostalgia. We believe that our world has never been more alive, that right now it’s exploding with bands who make music that sparkles with energy, imagination and colour, music that pushes boundaries, kick-starts hearts and makes life worth living. Kerrang! The Album ‘09 is the new soundtrack to your life.” – Paul Brannigan

With exclusive tracks from established acts such as My Chemical Romance, New Found Glory, Alexisonfire, Marilyn Manson, Gallows and a showcasing of the new breed with the likes of Ghost Of A Thousand, Outcry Collective and Rolo Tomassi, Kerrang!
Join Kerrang! on Saturday 27 June, 2009 from 4pm, as we reveal the UK’s top 100 greatest rock videos of all time.

Over 14,000 rock fans voted up and down the country to make sure their favourite rock video made it into the UK’s ultimate chart.

Watch Greatest Rock 100 videos – teaser

From rock legends Aerosmith to the Foo Fighters, you’ll definitely not want to miss this head banging session of the most memorable videos in rock and roll history.

The top 10 of this colossal vote includes:

1. 30 Seconds To Mars – The Kill
2. 30 Seconds To Mars – From Yesterday
3. Paramore – Misery Business
4. My Chemical Romance – I’m Not OK
5. Paramore – CrushCrushCrush
6. My Chemical Romance – The Black Parade
7. Linkin Park – What I’ve Done
8. Fall Out Boy – I Don’t Care
9. Green Day – American Idiot
10. You Me At Six – Save It For The Bedroom

Melissa Pine, Head of Marketing at Box TV said, “This countdown received a massive amount of votes, which confirms that Kerrang! is at the forefront of the rock music scene. The Top 10 reads like the definitive guide to rock videos, there’s angst, stunning effects, dark undertones, lots of heavy make-up – the ultimate opportunity to rock out.”

“The fact that 30 Seconds To Mars occupy the two top spots shows the power of a fan base and the loyal following that the band has worked up since they burst on the scene in 1998.”

Watch Kerrang!’s Rock 100 (Sky 368 and Virgin Media 342) on Saturday 27 June, 2009 from 4pm.

MySpace Music has announced The List concert series will feature Green Day performing live in New York City on Tuesday, May 19, 2009.

The band will perform at Webster Hall for a small group of lucky fans, mere days after their new Reprise Records’ album ’21st Century Breakdown’ hits stores on Friday, May 15th.

The List is a live concert event where MySpace users are provided a chance to see the biggest bands by responding to a series of blogs and bulletins posted from the program’s official profile at http://www.myspace.com/thelist.

Fans across the world will then be able to watch the performance when footage of the entire show is presented on MySpace Music shortly after the concert. The List is presented by Sunkist. Past shows have included My Chemical Romance, The Roots, LCD Soundsystem, Smashing Pumpkins, Taking Back Sunday, and Serj Tankian.

Approximately 300 MySpace users will be granted admittance to the special Green Day concert for free thanks to The List presented by Sunkist. Additionally, a portion of the tickets to this concert will be sold to the public beginning on Saturday, May 9, 2009.

Green Day – vocalist/guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tré Cool – were three kids from working-class backgrounds who came of age in the underground punk scene in Berkeley, California. Even though they had released two records prior (1039 / Smooth Out Slappy Hours and Kerplunk), they announced their arrival with 1994’s Dookie, a blast of punk-pop that spoke to bored teenagers everywhere. The album eventually sold 15 million copies worldwide, earned the band their first Grammy Award and inspired a raft of imitators.

Over the years, Green Day continued to top the charts with their subsequent studio albums Insomniac, Nimrod, and Warning while entertaining millions of fans with their frenetic live shows. But it was their landmark 2004 album American Idiot that launched Green Day into the stratosphere. An artistic leap forward, American Idiot is a punk rock opera and sarcastic middle-finger salute to the Administration that captured the cultural and political landscape at that time. “Jesus of Suburbia” set the tone by telling a tale of choosing between self-destruction and redemption that resonated with listeners of all ages, nationalities, and political persuasions.

American Idiot debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart and went on to sell more than five million copies in the U.S. and 12 million worldwide. It spawned five hit singles, earned seven Grammy nominations (winning two including Rock Album of the Year) and raised the bar for modern rock and roll.

On Friday, May 15, 2009, Green Day will release ’21st Century Breakdown’ and launch a world tour soon after.

“The Saints Are Coming” is a song new to my ears but Dave, being the punk that he is, made it very clear from the start that the Green Day and U2 collaboration is a cover by scottish punk band The Skids, which was originally released in 1978. The video for the song is now playing constantly here in the UK and I can see why some might find it a bit controversial. Politics aside, there are also rumblings around the internet about the cover itself and whether or not U2 and Green Day do the song justice.

I like both versions and I think it’s great not only that they’re helping out the musicians in New Orleans, but U2 and Green Day are also putting the spotlight back onto The Skids as well as punk music itself – which mainstream radio and the industry tends to ignore.
