James Blunt, Warner Music and Metro International today announced a global brand partnership that will see the acclaimed singer-songwriter guest edit the global edition of the Metro newspaper on 17th November, 2008. Metro is published in 20 countries and more than 150 cities, with a worldwide readership of over 20,000,000. This will be the first time that the world’s largest newspaper has had a famous artist at the helm of its global edition.

Watch I’ll Take Everything video (from Later…with Jools Holland):

James will assume his duties at the Metro Rome office where he will collaborate with Sakari Pitkanen, Global Editor-in-Chief. Alongside editing the paper and commenting on news affecting readers around the world, James will be involved in a feature on Médecins Sans Frontières, an international medical humanitarian organisation James supports and which Metro Newspapers have worked closely with for a number of years.

James Blunt said, “I have long been fascinated by the media and am excited to have the chance to go behind the scenes at Metro and experience things from the other side. With so much going on in the world right now, I am looking forward to editing a newspaper, raising the profile of subjects close to my heart and hopefully have a little fun along the way. I might even give myself a good review!”

Editorial content will be supported by a month-long global marketing campaign across radio, online and print platform. From today a bespoke micro-site will offer Metro readers the chance to win an all-expenses-paid trip to Italy and act as James’ deputy.

The homepages of the Metro and James Blunt websites will host his new video alongside exclusive additional material such as behind-the-scenes footage of James at work. Print ads will run across 20 countries and 20 second radio spots will run in selected territories.

The activity coincides with the release of his new single “Love, Love, Love” on 10th November and a deluxe CD & DVD edition of the chart-topping ‘All The Lost Souls’ album on 17th November in Europe and 24th November in the UK.

James Blunt on amazon.co.uk

Matthieu Lauriot-Prevost, SVP International Marketing, Warner Music International said, “This project is a great example of how we are looking for new ways to connect our artists to audiences around the world. Artists, rock stars and celebrities have edited newspapers and magazines before, but never on such a vast scale as this. The combination of James Blunt’s worldwide appeal and Metro’s massive reach is a unique promotional opportunity, creating a global showcase for James’ talent, building a big event for Metro readers and generating awareness for an important cause.”

Sakari Pitkänen, Global Editor in Chief, Metro International said, “It is very exciting that we have a high profile figure editing the newspaper in 20 countries for the first time. James Blunt is a world famous artist, but it is also his diverse background that makes him appealing to Metro readers. Our goal is to increase pick up of Metro on the day, as well as create unique online content to generate more traffic to Metro news sites around the world. With James as editor, we want to create coverage of things that only the largest newspaper can do and our well coordinated marketing campaign in countries where Metro is available will make sure all of our readers will be well aware of the collaboration.”

Following the success of the #1 album ‘All The Lost Souls’, James Blunt will play nine eagerly anticipated UK Arena shows this October.

This current album has so far sold over 600,000 in the UK and 3,000,000 worldwide, features the hit single “1973″ and the evocative second single “Same Mistake”.

On March 24th, 2008 James Blunt releases “Carry You Home”, the haunting third single and one of the album highlights. Written by the James and Max Martin, it features a striking video by Grammy Award-winning director Jake Nava, whose critically acclaimed credits include Rolling Stones and Dido. The poignant video was filmed in Dorset and is shot in black and white, perfectly complimenting the songs themes and mood.

I was just mindin’ my own business, listening to one of the iTunes radio stations and a very interesting song just came on. I’m not sure where I’ve been (I didn’t think that I was under a rock), but I just heard “Je réalise” by French rap artist Sinik featuring James Blunt!

What?!

I had no idea that James Blunt was featured in a rap song – and actually, I was just looking up in Google to see who the French rapper was. Luckily his name came up on the iTunes ‘titles bar’. I wasn’t familiar with Sinik, but something tells me more people will be hearing from him in the future. He seems pretty damn cool.

Having James Blunt involved with his song will certainly help to reach a wider audience – but the fans for each artist are most likely from each end of the music scale. Reminds me of “Stan” by Eminem featuring Dido. That seemed to work, though.

Anyway, if you haven’t heard it, you can make your own mind up!

Watch video: “Je réalise” by Sinik featuring James Blunt:

Sinik’s latest album, ‘Le Toit Du Monde’ was released in December 2007. He’ll be touring around France from February – April 2008. For tour dates and more information, go to:

It was good to finally watch her on TV after only seeing her YouTube videos! She’s got such a soulful voice, and she sounded great. Surprisingly she didn’t perform her debut single “Rockferry” – not sure why. Either way, it was good to hear her other two singles, “Warwick Avenue” and “Mercy”, which I think will be her next release.

I didn’t know that Duffy was scheduled to be on Jools Holland until that day – but I’m not surprised that she was. Jools (and his people) are very good at spotting quality talent for the show.

Other guests included Manu Chao, James Blunt (a last minute replacement for Babyshambles), Orchestra Baobab (awesome), Kano and Damon Albarn and Dion.

Here are videos of Duffy’s performances. Not quite TV, but at least available to watch.

Watch “Mercy” video

There’s additional footage of Duffy singing “Rockferry” that wasn’t on the show, an interview with her as well as other guests that performed on the Later with Jools Holland Official Website – episode 4.
